our guild assumed he would show up with one of the available upgrades. when we achieved the tavern upgrade there were 2 new NPC’s standing in the tavern.
Out of curiousity. Is this something they’ve added with the Scribe and guild hall decorations? Or did they do something specifically for your friend?
we don’t know if it was done purposely or if it’s coincidence and we probably never will, you can decide for yourself, our guild already has
There is an NPC that you can get for your guild hall, he is a scribe and his name is Douglas Bird. Our friend that passed was named Doug, and our guild tag is [BIRD].
Coincidentally, there are also many famous Douglas Bird’s in the world so could he be named for one of them? sure… but in game, he’ll be ours <3
we see what you did there… well played Anet… well played.
thank you, sincerely, thank you.
<3
i know this has been sitting for some time now, and our guild is slowly moving on and playing together again. it’ll never be quite the same but it’s brought us even closer than we already were.
i just wanted to say thanks to everyone for their support and kind words. i understand that not everyone will agree with this kind of request and i respect that, but i know that Doug would have made this exact same request for me were the roles reversed.
So, whatever comes of this thread, I’m super happy to be a part of this community.
I’m not trolling. My opinion on this is dead serious (pun not intended)
Its not my problem, if you have issues with other peoples opinions in such an unethical topic. And I find it unethical to beg literally for attention to get from a game developer for a dead person some kind of special treatment in a game, which should always, regardless what comes, stay in first line a game and shouldn’t become everyones public memorial, only because some people believe that their “cases” are somehow special/worthy enough for it, that Anet has to put some value to them rolleyes.
However, an emotion neutral non public gameplay related implemented feature would be something totally different.
If Guild Halls would provide an option for Guild Leaders to create their customized gravestones, then will have people a way to get, what they want, without that they think that there is some kind of “need” to seek attention for their cause here in the forums, where something like this absolutely has no place in my eyes. Period.Instead, they can put up then the wished gravestone, statue or whatever as a memorial and place it somewhere in their Guild Hall, where Guild Members can read then some kind of memorial text maybe, when standing before that thing.
And now take a chill pill, because as you can see, I do basically support what the OP wants. I just personally prefer only a Guild Hall integrated solution that works for everyone and I absolutely dislike just the forum method of trying to press on the tear gland for sympathy to get through some special treatment, what is kind of selfish, when you think about it, that the Guild Hall related solution would be way better for everyone and it doesn’t require in the future then anymore to make more threads liek this here to get “hopefully” a memorial for a dead person.
No, with such an integrated solution could get then everyone in the Guild Halls a memorial for various different reasons even :O
Call me disrespectful all you want, I stay to my opinion. Theres nothing to be ashamed of it to have an own opinion and especially to call it out also against all the odds of others. Deal with it. Not everyone does swim with the stream always :P
Thats life as much as life goes on.
I have to say at this point, in my opinion, it feels like you’re trolling.
I think “unethical” is a pretty far stretch for requesting a private instanced in game monument to our friend. in fact, it’s a nonsensical accusation, there is nothing immoral or dishonest about it, it’s a simple request, there is no begging happening here, no groveling, no pleading. I told his story and asked for a private feature in our future guild hall, that’s it.
If you think the telling of his story itself is unethical, again i would have to say that it’s a ridiculous use of the word. I sent my exact post as a private email to Anet, who replied and told me to contact the devs using the forums, as well as offering their condolences. They didn’t tell me that my post was unethical, that my request was unethical or that i was begging, nor did i see any rules against posting such a thing.
It seems odd that it bends you out of shape so badly when even Anet support and devs don’t mind.
“without the kind of need to seek attention for their cause” how do you think community driven features become implemented, telepathy? Again, i tried private email, i was directed here.
You’re upset about the method but I’ve followed Anet’s own instruction.
I don’t mind at all that your opinion is not in agreement with my own, it just seems like it’s for no good reason.
Seems like a way to trivialize a death if you ask me.
Not to mention this game feels too light hearted to have such a feature.
Such a thing would not happen anytime soon anyway. Can’t expect them to drop resources into this when they’ve already got plans with the expansion etc.
People also need to stop bringing such things to the forums, it brings some people down.
It’s kitten selfish too.
This thread already has a dark cloud hanging over it.
Well everyone is entitled to their opinion on this, but I would imagine it seems trivial to you because you didn’t know the man at all. you didn’t know how much he loved this game and the people that he played it with, how much time he put into the game and the guild. He would have loved this idea, and he’d have done the same for me if the roles were reversed.
just because a game feels light hearted to you doesn’t mean it feels that way for everyone else, we’re not all you.
it may not happen soon, it may not happen at all, but “dropping” resources into something that clearly has the attention and support of players is never a bad idea.
when you become a moderator of these forums then you can dictate what people should and shouldn’t bring to the forums. I was directed here by Anet after i emailed them. I’ll follow their suggestion over yours for now.
If it’s selfish to want to do something for someone else, then I guess I’m selfish.
@ Evaara:
That were in my opinion already 3 cases too much, because they let people believe since then, that their “cases” might be also special enough for Anet, that they put some value into it to make their losses look for everyone else like something special, when in fact alot more people who played GW2 for sure have been died in the last 3 years and where nobody felt “the need” to tell that thousands of other people in a public forum with the sole intention to make the death of a person look special enough, worthy enough (god, just writing this disgusts myself right now) to give the person a memorial.
As I said, I have absolutely nothing against it, if ANet uses now the time of chance to make out of Guild Halls a Feature, which encases also the option to add to them a personal “Field of the Fallen” with customized own gravestones, where you can mourn as much and long as you like and feel still connected to that lost person “somehow”
Thats what I personally absolutely support and theres no reason to be against something like this, because then can have everyone have their memorials and nobody has a reason anymore to come here into the forums for attention seeking trying to make their “cases” look somehow special, why it would be nice, if Anet could give person X a kind of memorial, statue, whatever.
I think this should have made my last sentence clear enough.
Ooc why aren’t everyone’s cases “special” enough to deserve the same recognition? If this already existed in the game from the get go then it wouldn’t even be a conversation topic. Think of how many features made it into this game based solely on community feedback. How would this feature be any different in that respect? If the majority of the community likes and supports the idea then it’s generally in the best interest of the developers to implement it so that it can be enjoyed by all.
I’m not seeking attention as you’ve put it, I even said that I emailed directly for a more private approach, and that Anet sent me to the forums. If Anet thinks it’s appropriate to send me directly to the forums then I’m not sure why you’d have a problem with it.
Bottom line is that it’s a good idea for an additional feature that, it seems, more people than not would appreciate.
I did email Anet first, i would have preferred if it were discussed privately but they responded and told me that i would have to contact the devs and that the best way to do that was through the forums.
I certainly didn’t post with the intention of pushing anyones buttons and i know that the family and our guild all really appreciate the positive support we’ve been receiving.
I’m very sorry to hear of this loss. My heart goes out to his family, friends, and guild members. To know that his wife is facing health challenges at this time makes his death especially poignant.
I don’t know all of the plans for guild halls. But I think your suggestion has a lot of merit and I will be passing it along today in the hopes that this is something that we can add in the future.
Again, sincere sympathy on this sad event. Our hearts are with you all.
Thanks so much Gaile, I appreciate your efforts on this, it’s all we can ask for. Anet has already given us so many good times over the years, though the time now feels fleeting.
I have buckets of fond memories to reflect on and we’ll continue to make more in the future.
If it’s possible for you to respond again when you know for sure whether or not this will be possible, we’d all be very grateful.
We need guild halls first…
well i did use the term “upcoming guild hall” so hopefully they understand that the guild hall being referred to is the one that will be coming with the HoT expansion. I appreciate your attention to detail.
I didn’t know where to post such a request so I’m hoping that if this is not the appropriate place then you can forward it to where it needs to go.
I’ve been playing guild wars with the same group of people since around Factions from the original Guild Wars. We’re all 30 – 50 years old, most of us married and all of us, spouses included, have played Guild Wars together for around 10 years. We’ve become good friends over the years, some visiting others IRL, and a couple even moving to be closer to another couple just because they became such good friends. The consistent enjoyment through the years has been Guild Wars, people have come and gone from the guild but there was a core that always stayed together.
A week ago today, June 4th, a member of our tight knit group was killed in a car accident. He was cut off by a semi trailer, he was able to swerve just enough to ensure that the full impact of the crash happened on his side of the vehicle, sparing the life of his son who was in the passenger seat. This was an incredibly shocking tragedy and has shook his family and our “gaming family” to its core. His wife, who also plays, has been battling cancer for some time now and to watch something so horrible happen to such an amazing couple has been heart breaking.
I’m emailing to request a small gesture that would mean the world to our gaming family. Is it possible to place a monument or grave marker of some sort in our upcoming guild hall? Somewhere prominent, somewhere that we can all gather in game to pay our respects, tell stories, or just be there to feel like there is still a part of him playing with us.
I’ll be happy to privately provide his account info and anything else you might need if you could make this happen.
You really don’t know how much something like this would mean to us all. Thanks for your time and all of the memories, regardless of the answer.
Thanks for the response and info
Heading over to check out your site.
Looking for a mostly Canadian guild that is most active within the EST time zone. I’m quite active and I play a bit of everything. Older aged guilds preferred but not a deal breaker.
PVE – 8500 achievement points
WvW – Rank 72
PvP – Rank 43
I’m almost always playing Guardian, but I do have a few other 80’d toons.
I’m competitive when it comes to PvP and easy going when it comes to PVE and WvW. Looking for like minded Canucks to play with.
Message or mail me in game. IGN is Maddox Tao
Cheers.
This has been successfully resolved. I contacted support, they had me destroy the second ring that i couldn’t equip and they replaced it with a ring of the same stats but different infusion slot.
Thanks Navi! I appreciate your help
thanks for the response navi. how does one go about contacting support? i thought that is what the forums were for :\
I recently reported this via the bug report in game but thought i’d mention it in here too.
i just bought 2x ascended druid’s rings from the laurel vendor in LA. However, I could only equip one of them, i have no use for the stats of the ring on any of my other characters, i wanted 2 for my guardian so now one is equipped and one is sitting in my inventory and i’m unable to equip it. it don’t see anywhere in the description of the ring that says only one of a type may be equipped at a time. I’ve crafted 2 of the same type of rings and equipped them both without issue so i don’t understand why the ascended gear would be any different.
I feel like i have 35 wasted days just sitting in my inventory
is this a bug? is there anything that can be done for me?
thanks.
Hello everyone, I’ll look into this and get back to you.
Thanks John!
Changes to important things like salvage rates would be listed in the update notes if they have changed. If it’s not in the update notes, then no changes have been made by the development team.
too many players with too similiar results to be coincidence. something has clearly changed, devs need to acknowledge and investigate.
Disconnects and "Incorrect Password" Message [merged]

getting disconnected every 30-60 min of gameplay or so with the firewall, router, campus error. none of that applies to me though. i’ve never had the router firewall or windows firewall enabled. the disconnects have only recently started happening to me after the lost shores update last weekend.
the last number error i recorded was 42:1000:9001:4093:101 though the number tends to change slightly every disconnect.
have also tried flushing dns multiple times.
i see most of the responses are based around pvp. i use scepter/focus combo paired with the greatsword in almost anything i do. i find that the scepter damage isn’t terrible and in pvp you just have to pick your targets wisely so that you’re not wasting scepter shots.
in dungeons i find the scepter a must. it allows me to kite mobs and bosses when i need a short respite and to let my great sword skills cool down. i have a lot of traits in precision and critical and at lvl 80, i hit for 1k with my scepter quite often. i know its not huge but it beats staring at the battle :P
