So…….
Are some of you now starting to understand what I’ve been talking about? How does it feel as a player to be accused of something, and then banned without explanation? How does it feel to know that at any time you can lose access to everything you’ve worked, and paid for, without ever being told why?
When I started a thread asking for more transparency when it comes to exploits, I was met with resistance, before the thread was locked. When I contacted support, I was basically told that any intelligent player should realize an exploit.
I haven’t logged in yet, so lets hope I wasn’t also banned for some mystery exploit I wasn’t even aware I was doing.
Perhaps more incidents such as this will force players to start demanding some transparency by ANet.
In my support ticket I asked ANet what specifically I could do, to protect myself against getting banned, for using an exploit I was unaware even existed?
The answer is clear. You can’t. We are all apparently at the mercy of ANet and their ban-hammer. Personally, I have decided to not become financially invested in this game. If ANet is unwilling to provide its players with information in which they can use to protect themselves, then I can’t feel confident putting money into this game.
I’m happy that so many of you got your accounts back. I encourage you to contact support and let them know how being accused of an exploit, and then banned without explanation makes you feel.
I just hope one day I can play this game knowing there is some player protection measures in place.
Another Amen, brother!
Solid post. Sums up exactly how I feel about this game. Players have no recourse if you disagree with this (and any game’s) EULA’s one way justice system other than to act with your wallet and game play time.
This is just another proof of their automated banning system.
I’ve had 6 guild members been banned so far in the last couple months, 2 for emailing gold and 4 for “botting” , 3 of them were farming mats for their legendary in Southsun Cove. No emails were ever sent with an explanation as to why they were banned or anything just the error box as they were trying to log in.
They all got their accounts back thankfully but 3 have since quit the game all together due to the unjustified bans and the fear of putting in more game time to just have it all go away in an instant.
Heck now I won’t even step foot in Southsun Cove due to the fear of be mistaken for a bot or even use the mail system to send anything to anyone, even to my alt account. It sucks that you have to always worry about the “ban” hammer dropping on you for normal game play.
I understand that they’re trying to get rid of botters and gold sellers but too many innocents are being taken down in the process. So their guilty until proven innocent stance has to end or more good people will leave the game.
Amen!
I’ve been using Mumble for several months along with GW2. I haven’t been suspended or banned, but then again I also don’t bot or use exploits or buy gold or insult players or use offensive words in chat. No, it wasn’t the use of mumble that got your brother banned.
You should probably keep these messages within your tickets only. Repeatedly opening forum threads about the same subject will probably eventually get you a forum ban.
Thanks for the suggestion about keeping it within the ticket. However, this affects more than just my brother and his ticket. I’m sure all players want to know if there is an inherent risk of getting banned by using MUMBLE. Like you, I find it unlikely that it would’ve, until I saw Gaile’s reply.
So its either MUMBLE does cause players to get banned somehow, or Gaile was shown a ticket and accompanying response that wasn’t my brother’s.
Neither me nor my brothers “bot or use exploits or buy gold or insult players or use offensive words in chat” either, if that’s what you were implying.
I had to refer to my other post to clarify the situation with readers of this post, or they would be lost.
Gaile, if you need me to send you a copy of my brother’s communication with support, I’m more than happy to forward it to you. You can cross reference that with what you claim was my brother’s statement knowing what he did. If its anything other than his reference to MUMBLE, something else is going on in your support area.
Thank you.
ANet, if this the case, you should let all the players know, so we can avoid getting caught in your ban crosshairs.
Referring to my other post in https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Proof-of-offense-for-tampering-modifying/first#post1826489, Gaile Gray indicated that:
“And we’re all pretty sure, judging from your brother’s final comment in his ticket, that he knew precisely what he was doing, and that he knew he was doing wrong.”
My brother’s last comment in his ticket was: “One more thing you could check is if MUMBLE interferes or might possible be falsely recognized as a third party program. Its the only change in my playing routine in the last 2 weeks.”
This is the statement that apparently convinced Gaile and the ANet support team beyond doubt that my brother “tampered with or modified” the game. The brother you banned installed and started using MUMBLE a few weeks ago because we started doing SPvP tournaments, even though he’s played since release. That’s how much a casual player he is.
I want to pose this question. Why would anyone accused point to the smoking gun, if the smoking gun will get you convicted?
My brother, with my suggestion, was quite simply trying to help you come to the right conclusion, by providing you as much information as he, and we, thought necessary, to clear his name.
Read his ticket again. Read my posts on his ticket. We have been trying to help you out with suggestions. It has all fallen on deaf ears.
Not only is your system flawed. It appears logic is as well.
Please respect your customers.
If by using MUMBLE players risk getting banned, ANet should clarify it here, in these forums.
Thank you.
As per Gaile, :"This is not the place to come to protest the actions of the Support Team. "
Where and how can we do this?
On behalf of my brother, we are kindly asking for proof that he tampered or modified the game, similar to what was given to another player in the post https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Proof-of-offense
This is with regards to ticket 130404-001167.
We have been very respectful to ANet and ANet staff with regards to trying to get this resolved amicably. We have gone through the proper procedures and channels.
Now, we would like to request to be treated in kind, with respect due to customers.
We are asking for clear proof of the reason for this ban because we are adamant and absolutely 100% confident that my brother did not “tamper or modify the game”.
My brother has no possible motive — we are casual players at best. You can confirm this with your logs. We play the game to keep in touch. You can also check your logs that our 3 accounts play together almost all the time when we are all on. My other brother and I have been long time Anet supporters since the original GW.
Please give us, your customers, the respect that we deserve. Show all the other paying customers of GW2 that you respect your players.
We wouldn’t have dared disputing ANet’s claim except for the fact that:
a. My brother is innocent
b. ANet’s banning/security system has not exactly been 100% flawless. Many innocent accounts have been banned and subsequently reversed, as documented in these forums. There is a clear history all over these forums of corrupted data, human error, etc. causing erroneous bannings.
Please do not provide us with vague responses like the generic ones provided in the support ticket like “thoroughly reviewed, maintain absolute confidence, take great care, etc.” Because we know for sure that he is innocent of the allegations you have made, we can say that your review is wrong, your claim of absolute confidence is based on wrong information and therefore you did not really take great care.
Referring again to the other post I referred to earlier, we are respectfully asking for the same thing: “All I want is 1 of 2 things, Either show me complete 100% proof…or lift the suspension because you have no proof and/or refuse to show it.”
Would it be too much to ask for ANet to not take the obvious, easy, and even lazy way out by simply pointing to the EULA and claim the one-way justice system in it?
I’m sure I’m not the only one waiting with bated breath.
Admitting you made a mistake and reversing the ban on my brother’s account after you are unable to provide clear proof that he tampered or modified with the game will show all GW2 players that you respect and value our support.
Please provide us with undeniable proof, or failing to do so, please reverse the ban on my brother’s account. He is innocent. Your system is flawed.
Thank you.

Hi Gaile,
Hope you’re doing well.
I would like to submit for a review my brother’s ticket 130404-001167.
I also would like to suggest that for this review, if possible, to please assume temporarily that my brother is innocent of the tampering charge. I believe this mindset will help lead to the real problem causing the false positive result. My brother is more than willing to supply you with necessary follow up information you may need to get to the root of the problem.
The reason for the ban is allegedly modifying and tampering with the game. Neither my brother, nor I, nor my other brother who also owns a copy of GW2, have the motivation or the expertise to tamper or modify the game. We are casual players who play GW2 as a way to keep in touch as we are in 3 different countries.
I know that it’s very clear in these forums that a player vouching for another’s innocence does not carry very much weight, if at all. However, I still would like to try one last time for our benefit (we get to play together again); for ArenaNet’s (I raise the likelihood of either a. your monitoring system coming up with false positives that unjustly ban loyal and legitimate players, or b. corrupted data in the March 26th patch that caused my brother’s account, and maybe others more, to be flagged as ‘tampering’ with the game); and for other fellow players (who may be falsely accused in the future and also lose their accounts because of it).
For me personally (and other players in a similar situation may feel the same way), the fear of playing GW2 and investing time and money in it, and then having it all taken away with false positive monitoring system takes away any motivation for continuing to play GW2.
Warm regards.
forgot to add the link https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Account-Terminated-Need-your-help
seems there are more of these erroneous bannings going on. lends more credence to my suspicion that there’s corrupted data that’s flagging innocent accounts.
please look ino this anet.
mercury, tnx for the info, but sadly there have been other incidents like these. see https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/account/Helping-my-Senior-Father-with-his-Account
my brother got the same msg, banned for tampering, when he hasn’t done anything.
i strongly, strongly believe this is another bug, esp. as he just told me he got the ban message right after patching the game 2 or 3 days ago.
Gaile, Anet, please help us.
Thanks.
My brother’s account, Galadrist.7052, was also banned around the same time, allegedly for “modifying or tampering with the game.” He’s already contacted support but I thought I’d voice my concern here as well.
He plays on the weekends mostly and is a casual player and is not tech savvy lol. He doesn’t “hack” or much less use 3rd party programs/macros. He just logged on a few nights ago and bam, banned lol. He has no reason, and certainly not the expertise to do these alleged hackings.
Anet, I strongly recommend looking at both these incidents (and maybe more) very closely as it sounds very similar to bannings that happened 5 months ago based on “corrupted data”. See http://www.guildwars2guru.com/arenanet-tracker/topic/240188-permanently-banned-for-modifying-or-tampering-with-game/
Arugz, did you buy some extra bank slots when it was on sale?
Because, one thing we can think of is my brother bought a extra bank slots when it was on sale a month or so ago. Did Anet suddenly check for these and wondered how he got extra slots cheap???
ANET, please review these bannings carefully again.
If there are any other players under the same situation, please add your concern as well.
Thanks.
