Hi so I left the game at the start of the year as I was unhappy with the class I wanted to play underperforming, I have no interest in pvp or wvw atm I just want to gear and at the same time I don’t want to waste my time so I have some questions.
1. Is engineer still low damage in pve?
2. Is Warrior still best pve damage class?
3. Is it still nade spam till your fingers bleed?
4. what have they nerfed?
5. what have they buffed?
6. Zerker v Conditions build.
I’m not looking to be op just competitive and wanted in parties.

Is engineer that bad? common

The only reason play an engineer is if you like having fun (and don’t get me wrong engineer is super fun) with a rare precious little snowflake of a class because otherwise this class is badly designed with a very poor damage output. All the way to level 80 I kept saying to myself it can’t be this bad at 80 things will be different… I was wrong it is this bad and they seem unwilling to change it.

How exactly do I play an engineer (PvE)?

I have tried all the kits and all the little tricks. The best setup by far is this:
Rifle is your primary weapon learn it love it. Pistol sucks for pve and leveling. It’s a great weapon in pvp however.
Nade kit is your secondary the other kits are just bad in pve learn to kite with nades as they will be your primary weapon of choice in dungeons & events where being in melee range is a very stupid idea.
Elixir H, B, C, and supply crate is your utility (because sadly all the other ultimate’s are crap).
Go explosives for Incendiary Powder, Explosive Powder and finally Grenadier.
Go Alchemy for Fast-Acting Elixirs, Potent Elixirs and finally HGH.
Go Tools for Speedy Kits.
I recommend you take Incendiary Powder then Speedy kits and work your way up the trees as you level.

Buy Strong Gear till you can buy Berserker’s Gear around level 50. Don’t stress your about your hp you will have enough and Elixir c will take care of dots stacking against you.

All that talk about engi being versatile is rubbish there are a couple of optimal setups for pve and this is one of them.

30 into alchemy for Deadly Mixture and HGH.

Gear
Start with basic power gear your stat priority is power precision crit damage followed by toughness vitality build for balance. Runes of divinity are a big help here.
Tips:
Go to the char starting area early (Plains of Ashford) and do the heart for Kyra Sharptracker to get the Ash Legion spy kit Camouflage(10s): Become invisible, as long as you remain in place. On demand stealth will save your life as it drops agro instantly allowing you to escape.
For consumables buy food with precision and crit damage and maintenance oil’s

Weapons berserkers (pwr prc crtdmg) rifle with sigil of fire and grenade kit.
Rifle is the best weapon in a pve setting it offers control and damage and with a major sigil of fire bought at 39 you have a 20% chance to gain a flame burst on crit which will also happen when you’re using grenade kit as weapon sigils now effect kits.

Utility’s Elixir H Grenade kit Elixir B Elixir C Supply Crate.
Drink Elixir H to heal yourself and randomly gain protection, regeneration, or swiftness.
Drink Elixir B to gain fury, might, retaliation, and swiftness.
Elixir C Drink Elixir C, converting all conditions into random boons. Late game mobs especially the undead stack a lot of conditions
For this build you’re going to throwing all of your Elixir’s as they come off cool down might stacking.
Grenade kit is your main weapon to for aoe it’s also going to be your go to button for perma swiftness the tool belt grenade barrage does fantastic burst damage this should be the kit your first skill point is spent on. On land Grenades are ground targeting bellow water they are mob targeting and far soupier to your harpoon gun skills so use them instead
Supply Crate drops a 3 turrets net turret, healing turret and flame turret none of which you have any control over you also get 4 bandage packs. Dropping Supply Crate gives you a 2 second aoe stun and a blast finisher. TBH Supply Crate is the best of a bad lot none of the engi ultimate skills are much good it can save your life but more often you just bought yourself an extra couple of seconds to run.

Build concept: Most builds I see posted are for pvp or wvw this build is intended as a PVE starting or levelling build for new players. it is a Rifle Grenade build with alchemy support and permanent swiftness.

Features:
Good single target damage & AOE damage
Elixirs with might stacking and condition removal.

Traits in the order you should buy them
Explosives Adept Incendiary Powder33% chance to burn for 2 seconds on critical hits.
Tools Adept Speedy Kits Gain swiftness for 5 seconds whenever you equip a kit. Basically flip between your rifle and your grenade kit and gain a 33% percent speed buff which helps a lot getting around the map.
Alchemy Adept Fast-Acting Elixirs Elixir skills recharge 20% faster.
Alchemy Master Potent Elixirs Increases elixir durations by 20%
Explosives Master Explosive Powder Improves damage from explosions by 10%
Alchemy Grandmaster HGH all Elixirs give 20 seconds of Might. This the core of the build basically is might stacking (Might is a boon which increases power and condition damage and can stack in intensity up to 25 times) by throwing elixir tool belt skills and popping your elixir’s when they are off cool down.
Explosives Grandmaster Grenadier You throws grenades 25% further, and you throw an extra grenade with each grenade kit skill.

pistols or rifle for lvling?

for general lvling are pistols or rifle better for killing things?

Rifle all the way you do better damage and have better control your time to kill is lower and jump shot is just fantastic for getting around jumping puzzles or other awkward areas. Pwr engi is the way to go in pve when leveling.

Engineer a good class?

I was thinking of making a engineer today but unsure how good they are. Are they broken for example or are they good?

If the question you are asking is will this class give me easy access massive single target burst then the answer is no go roll a warrior which is a far easier and very dull class to play.

Engineer brings support cc and moderate single target damage and good aoe damage at range. You make it easier for others to win the fight. That is my description and opinion of the class after 80 levels and giving up on it 4 times then coming back because nothing is quite as fun or challenging to play as a engi to high standards. You need to learn to use your combo’s and work on your timing to get the most out of the class something I have yet to achieve.
If you choose to continue go with grenades and rifle put your first ten points into tools to get speedy kits so you can have perma swiftness.

Switched from Engineer to Warrior and...

I wanted to love the Engineer class but then I made a Ranger and that just ruined it for me and so did Rifle Warrior and Pistol Thief. Sorry engineer I will come back to you when your less under powered.
