I decided to come back to GW2 after a couple of years and wanted to experience the whole story from start to finish. My personal story, then seasons 1 (or at least the video) and 2, HOT, which I now bought and than season 3.
I got to level 80 and I have quite a bit of my personal story still left to complete, but my EXP bar froze and every time I get it from any source it’s bugging me I need to start the HOT story. In order to not waste EXP for mastery points I now need to skip 1/4 of my personal story and another whole chapter and start looking for some random place in Maguma and have no clue whats going on, which feels really disrupting.
Could we get an EXP bank that stores it until you reach HOT or maybe just Hero points, so that we can enjoy the game at our own pace and in the proper order?
I actually want to stop playing now because the HoT story that was forced down my throat has no head or tail for me and doing other things gets you a popup every time you gain EXP.
Who designed this…..????

The old GW2 wasn’t very enjoyable. The small “improvements” also didn’t focus on my main grievances. But the new camera and targeting system does bring something to the table which caught my eye. The specializations might also bring some freshness and diversity to classes. I guess they’ll be releasing expansions more often now (hot seems small compared to what factions or nightfall had) and considering how much value a box purchase offers I’ll probably wait till it goes f2p again.

I wouldn’t compare it to wow, because the expansion price there seems somewhat negligible considering you need to pay a monthly subscription. And it wasn’t always like that, but wow’s dying and buying 6 games would probably be too much for any new players. Also their expansions introduce whole new continents, while this seems more like a major patch (gw2.1).
The tv analogy is also misguided. I wouldn’t mind if my accounts value dropped by 50%, heck I’m more than fine with sales. However my account will be worth nothing in 3 days. I wouldn’t be able to sell it if I wanted to (I don’t and never intended to as I realise it’s probably against the TOS).
I pre-ordered the core game and after my initial disappointment stopped playing and hoped for things to get better. I didn’t get any of that joy you experienced in three years. So, where’s my value?
I think they could do something extra for existing customers. I’m not talking major discounts or anything like that or even that the bonuses should stack after more expansions come out, heck 5€ off would probably be enough if you already bought the game previously. Sure some people got a char slot, but I’m most certainly not pre-ordering the game that burned me 3 years ago. It’s not even about the money, but about the feeling of not being a milk cow.

As you can see I haven’t played for more than a few weeks and that’s nothing by mmo standards. I haven’t even finished the story because I got bored of it. I was hoping thing would improve… and by the looks of thing they did, but sadly I’d have the same amount of enjoyment if I made a new account now… for free.
I just feel disappointed and a little but betrayed, that’s all. I don’t think I’ll be buying anything from Anet at full price again.

You have had 3 years of playing this game. You chose not to play it yet you could still log in and play it at ANY time free of charge, and can even continue to do so!
If I knew that the game would go f2p in 3 years I wouldn’t have spent money on it. I expected things to remain as they were in GW1. I bought the game, so I earned my place in it even 10 years after.
But now I’ve spent $50 for nothing. The “I bought the game” perks mean absolutely nothing to me as I’m not much of a crafting and trading guy. I want to experience the story and combat. I can do that now by creating a new free account and I wont miss a thing.
I was hoping they would address my main concerns with the game a few years down the line, so I wasn’t particularly upset about not enjoying the game so much at the moment. But now it seems I just wasted my money.

I loved GW1 and was super hyped for GW2, which turned out to be a huge disappointment for me, since it wasn’t even close to what I expected. So I haven’t really played much of it, and mostly endured for as long as I did because a friend was really into it.
Now it seems like HOT might address some of the issues I had with GW2, like the action camera controls, so maybe I should jump back in. Cool… Whelp, the core game is now f2p and all the features I would ever need are now available for free.
Why exactly did I waste $50 and bought this thing again? Not to mention the game includes a cash shop and is selling the episodic story to you separately (I haven’t logged in for over a year for obvious reasons). And now they’re expecting me to cough up another $50 without even acknowledging my purchase 3 years ago. My account will be worth jack kitten in three days. Yay.
Perhaps it’ll be better to wait for the second expansion and buy it on a sale, so I wont feel like I’m wasting my money again.

This was one of the saddest story quests I have seen so far. Your goal is to reclaim Claw Island.
Through out the quest your AI soldier partners are very unresponsive. They just stand there and do almost nothing. The enemies are no better. Some just stand there and take a beating.
But the worst part is, when you fight the dragon. This was one of the most boring fights ever, because you can just stand there and fire the #1 spell into it until it dies.
It wouldn’t be so bad, if the army next to you would at least try to make it look like they participate in the fight, but they just stand there casually and wait until its over. I’m really suprised they didn’t start a campfire and chat eachother up.
I could complete the thing with almost no difficulties, but the whole thing felt really anticlimatic and I’m sure that that Anets goal is to deliver an epic story, not a boring one, so i felt I should report this.
