I came into sPvP for the first time since I started playing today and i’ve been playing since release.
I have an 80 Necro/Ele/Thief and decided to take my necro into sPvP to play with a friend of mine. I’ve never really had much of a problem with thieves in WvW, sure sometimes they might get the jump on you but for the most part I could handle myself.
I’ve been pvping in mmo’s since Asheron’s Call and DaoC so I am not new to the general mechanics of how pvp works.
But today in the 10 matches I played in this sPvP stuff forced me to log off.
Every death was to Thieves spamming Heart Seeker over… and over… and over… sometimes two thieves doing the same thing. In fact in the 10 matches I played 95%-99% of the time I was killed by a Thief using this ability. Never killed by a ranger, or ele, warrior or engineer…. (come to think of it I dont think I saw a warrior once) The only time I died was to this ability being mashed on someone’s keyboard.
A gap closer that you can’t outrun that deals this kind of damage is silly. And I’ve read a few pages of this post and I’m sure people will say “Learn to Dodge” but you get 2 dodges… and a thief will get more then 2 Heart Seekers on you and if they Roll for Initiative to refill their initiative well there are even more.
I was staying away from sPvP because I didnt really like the idea/concept of it but playing for a few I was really having fun.
Until the frustration of the sheer number of single ability spamming thieves forced me and my friend to try 2 other boards in hopes of finding a map that had fewer thieves…. nope, the trend continued.
Doubt I will go back in.
I like it, I think it could open up lots of possibilities.
I always liked the idea of holding key points of the map that might not offer any point bonus but tactical bonus.
Example…
Your guild holds a bridge between points of the Borderlands. You are able to fly your guild banners as flags in the middle of the bridge… maybe even purchase (cheap) guards and set them at the bridge to help you defend. (A maximum # of guards) The guards could be designed to wear your guild banners and maybe even a preset of armor your guild has added to the model. One guild could have their soilders in full plate and fin helms while another go wit the bare chested fur wearing barbarian types!
So even if you are not inside a keep spamming the door with AE defending… your 3-5 man guild group could guard a bridge flying your guild banner to announce to your enemies.
I think necro can only remove one buff per tick, so if theif has a few other buffs, which they most likley do. It will be almost impossible to remove.
Still, the well of corruption is a 45 second cooldown, while a theif has multiple stealth positiblities. So at best this would annoy the theif and delay his 15K backstab on the necro.
My post was not about Thieves being OP as the title suggests. My Necro has little trouble with most thieves 1v1 because I am a condition build and use gtae wells a lot. Unseen or not 90% of the time I’ll see a downed thief suddenly appear a few feet away from me from stealth. My post was more about the curiosity of whether the “Stealth” ability is considered to be a boon.
Another thread posted a perma stealthed thief in a zerg tagging people, I just thought a few necros tossing down Well of Corruption could sniff one out as the rendering bug is allowing for a delay.
Seeing a lot of people upset about the Thief ability to perma stealth using CnD. Could a Necro use Well of Corruption to counter ‘stealth’ or is this not considered a boon?
Well of Corruption Target area pulses, converting boons on foes into conditions
If it is not currently classified as a boon perhaps it would be a rather paper/rock/scissors way of allowing a counter to this ability.
