i love it how many people dont get the point of my argument …..

i said if you keep the COREIDEA of Trinity but remove the strict class roles, everyone would need to play and understand their class better, because you dont have to wait for a specific class to build your team but still need to base your advance on tactics instead of faceroll fullzerg damage

well it isnt as said a noble idea but somehow it gets ridicules that mages can even witout magic, with gear only, be as sturdy as a plate wearer and this ones at the other hand can (and mostly are in GW2) are squishier as Assas ever were in GW.

and as said too, it makes the game to easy, in the most parts because:
if you can kill the transmorphed Grwal Priest alone as fullheal gurdian with literly no dmg (because team was to dump to move so they needed to rezz each other all the time and unable to relise that they need to break his shield)in a lv 25 Frectal with only 5 AR or Kill in Orr 1 Elite mesmer,2 veteran Necromancer and 8 normal Undeads (mixed classes) effortlessly ALONE (as heal mage) you cant seriously call this game a challenge

what you say here already exists except the tank role in 5 man or open world and what you state for most classes works like that in raids no class other that ele atm is only picked for 1 think, sure one thing they do better but the provide so much more on top of that.

expect the fact that their is no need for distraction or interruption because the enemies either just plob away or you can alone take care of survival (but isnt bad but keeps you (as Dps or “healer”) away from your considered agenda and should only be for some crossfireing Boss AoE or the bad situation the main “tanks” go down

the fine thing about the core-idea of Trinity is that everybody (if every role is played correct) can do exactly that what one can do best (and it wouldnt matter if you are for example a Ranger Tank or a Warrior tank) without being distracted by take parts of other roles as long it doesnt fit in your set up – while for example a Damage Paragon builds up so much adrenalin that he can still provide “Save your self” quite often. or as example in GW2 haveing a Sigil of Water in your Staff and at least a bit Healing power your fireball provides what id should do: DAMAGE but u still give quiet some heal to the frontline without being distracted by it

other very good examples for “softened” and flexible class roles are the SoS ritualist and the Minion Master:

SoS: while the primary idea is DOING damage it also capable to distract and Block enemies for quiet a while —> tank role AND by only picking “Shelter” as well you can provide powerful protection for the group making you part support

MM: mostly there do just block the minions are very capable of doing damage and while the minions are alive the Necro himself is also quiet resilient aganist damage —> transforing a dps class in an offtank

no u didn´t get what i want to imply: there was NEVER a real dependence on a healer if you know how the game works and the problem is that GW2 is even more binding to a fixed role as GW1 did and with trinity i not meant only plate+Mage+cleric/priest/monk but as my argument above says: that the core idea of trinity remains, because it needs some degree of tactics. as an example: you have a thief, a ranger, an ele,an ingeneur and say a mesmer —> in GW2 you just shred everything with the dps of ele, mesmer and thief if you had the core idea of trinity and my idea of SOFTENED class roles you maybe come to following solution to archiv your objectiv: The thief taking the main part of attention and “tank” in order of being able to dodge a great amount of a attaks (but still does a great amount of damage since it is his base role), the ranger focus on doing damage but if some enemies break up from the assassin he switches to “offtank” disrupt this enemies and keep them away from the other 3 members who are: the mesmer who is 50% doing dmg 50% interrupt the enemy so the life of the kitten is easier and also help the ranger to keep the “outbreaking” in line. the Ele mainly focus on blowing them into pieces but provies buffs and “heal” (like he/she already can in GW2 as already said) and the Ingeneuer also sets his turrets to provide also a good range of damage but is mostly selected to provide his/her medi-packs across the group since he/she has the armor to also short skip close to the thief in the frontline and is as such the “healer” of the group

so to sum it up once more: GW2 sets you befor the choice of being either tank, damage dealer or support but nothing of it is very resourcefull, cunning or in need of some finesse – because the GW2 skill system is simply TOO flat, basic, restricted and uncreative
tank and support arent even considered as a really viable choise because you can faceroll nearly any content with some fullzerk warriors/eles/mesmers/revents
while in GW, with some knowledge and creativity, are even some effective mix builds are possible

so i understand that it was necessary to simplify the system a bit to open the game for a bigger spectrum of players but was there really the need to destroy the Soul of Guild Wars by making Teamwork (in the most situations) unnecessary, destroying the glory and joy of playing a skillsetup u PERSONALLY created -maybe something nobody other plays but is still effective and completely eradicate the “Holy trinity of MMOs” and with it any strategic deeps that is in order to build a efficient team with it and all in all making 90% of all encounters way to easy (as said with enough practice u can fight up 8 or 10 enemies (including elite and or Veterans) ALONE without really breaking a sweat while in GW there were casual encounters who were able to ruin your day with only 3 enemies if you werent ready or made crucial mistakes (what maybe a bit to extreme too for the most casual players but the difference is a bit to great to be still considered a challenge) ?

so the RIGHT way would have been to simply soften the Primary role boundaries:

if you take the impact of a class in a chart of 100%:
a warrior is basically 80% tank and 20% Damage: if u change his Build you can make him 100% tank or quit a capable Damage dealer witrh 40-50% Tank and 50% damage, but you CANT take away his tankyness (in GW2 you are either Tank OR Damage dealer (what is totally senseless since someone in a Heavy armor can ALWAYS take more hits as a cloth wearer so basicly the Warrior got cut away form what defines it – his/her tankyness)(something in between is considered useless) so the diversity is even lesser as in GW)

A Paragon is around 70% Control/support, 20% Tank and 10% dmg:
You can change him to 50% dmg, 20% tank and 30% control/support (but you cant take it away because his/her concept is based on it)

the same you could do with a Ranger who is around 70% Damage and 20% Sustain (beeing able to survive thinks other DPS classes dont survive) and with the right build 10% control:
so we could have got the possibility given in our hands to change it to somewhat: 30% Dmg, 50% sustain (so he/she can take the place of the tank for a short time or the dmg is good enough) and 20% control/support. but in GW2 Rangers are considered as useless even he can match the dps of most other classes if played right (but what reduces him/her also to only one specific role).

Mesmer: is around 60-80% pure control and 20-40% dmg dependable from the build: now with the illusions we would have a great way to change the setup of this class in following way: 30-40% control, 20% dmg and 40% sustain – but that comes from the CONTROL ability to, because with the illusions you distract the enemies from you and your team and the Interrupts are control AND support because you prevent the team from even taking damage . here we have an other example for totally destroying a class soul: not even the mesmer is a very Unique idea in the range of MMOs – the Interrupts and control ability were its very core

the assassin who is 70-80% damage and trough his/her capability to burst casters (and interrupt) 20-30% control (or full tank with Shadow form): now we could have get the possibility to change it to 40-50% , 20-30% control and 20-40% sustain (to survive even if you are get blown of your hide or need to replace the tank

an other example:the Elementalist: basicly between 90-100% seen for its damage and 10% crowd control and here GW2 made a quiet good job so he/she is (in my eyes) way stronger as the most other classes (in PvE encounters) (since i was able to do the Priests on the Gods statues or the asura legendary in this big statue the Grawl worshiping in the shiverpeaks, alone on full heal): you can change it how the hell you want between sustain+support/heal, Support/heal+control, sustain+control but you cant take its damage away because it is what define this class

the Necromancer: as well as the Elementist from the base concept the right thing, just that the weaponskill system restrict it to much to a specific role – staff to supportiv adn other weapons to much focus on dmg only, while the non-weaponskills are either to much utility or supportiv – because the role of the Necro is, depended from the build either (mainly) Damage/control, control/damage or Support/damage or Control/support because of the ability of this class to either shape the “battlefield” with minions or disrupting the enemy battleplan by weaking skills etc …

I was asked to Transfer this Part of the Discussion for Lore into this sector of the Forum – and they are right:

GW2 has many things that making it a good game:
- The World (not going into the details)
- The combat system
- Variety of Equipment
- changing World
- etc

BUT it has some terrible flaws as well:
- it doesnt make EVERYTHING different then other MMOs like that it became an Asia Grinder and the Crafting System is even more annoying as from Aion or that you can now defeat several enemies at once alone (what you have in nearly every other MMO to)

but the major mistake, that absolutely preventing me from being able to overlook the other flaws and enjoy its good sides is the point this discussion shall be about:

GUILD WARS 2 BETRAYED EVERYTHING THAT MADE GUILD WARS ALREADY UNIQUE AND SO MUCH ENJOYABLE

On the first look it is a noble goal to free the players for the dependents of Healers or Tanks, but in the long run it is simply a terrible idea because GW2 given up one major part of the GWs Soul – TEAMWORK – now 80-90% you encounter while exploring are just egomaniacs who arent bother to help you when they see that you struggle with 2-3 more enemies as you could normally handle, even it would just cost them 20 seconds of their time. In Big Group events or Dungeons everybody looks only for his/her self as well because in the mind is “yeah he/she has self heal as i do – they are fine”

and with the self heal we come to the next even greater flaw: the price for giving everybody self heal is simply to high. GW2 ripped out the very heard and soul of the most classes and imply flexibility where only fixed roles are given while GW provide a skill system where nearly every class is able to fulfill the role of an other one – Give me 1 or 2 Hours and i build 3-4 group builds able to encounter nearly every PvE content and nobody needs to be particular skilled in being a healer – just need to understand the game and it skills – and you have not single one who is doing the primary role of his/her class.

to be continued…..

On the monk- we had this explained to us in interviews before release. It’s been a long time, but from what I remember, the profession became unpopular for two reasons:
-The gods stopped answering prayers. Yes, their spells still worked, but this was a profession that defined itself by its relation to the gods, to the point where they called those spells prayers instead of magic. The power was still there, but the identity was broken.
-Other professions developed their own more potent means of healing, rendering monks less useful. Being able to heal others really well doesn’t count for much when the others don’t need healing.
That left monks without their religious identity, with their value in protective and smiting magic… in other words, guardians.

There was one interview that gave a little bit more detail, but we haven’t been able to find it again since release.

Basically, another part of the story was that monks were increasingly realising they were particularly vulnerable to being targeted first, so they started looking into being able to better defend themselves – including wearing heavier armour, more offensive use of magic, and training with martial weapons. Around this time, Paragons were arriving as refugees from Elona (this bit may have been retconned, since the time of Joko’s conquest has changed) – there weren’t enough to establish a new Paragon tradition in Tyria, but there were enough to teach some elements of their fighting styles to the monks. The two professions merged into guardians.

Why, exactly, that resulted in a loss of healing magic hasn’t really been explained. I have some hypotheses, but they’re just speculation.

thank you, that comes finally closer to a real explanation. but i thought about it, and in its core the discussion about the classes IS Lore relevant: so Guardian, Warrior and Revenant wearing heavy armor and still there are Setups (fullzerk) making them even more Squishy as Monk ever was (pointing on Guardian) and on the other side a Elementist or Necromancer can become as Tanky as a heavy armor user WITHOUT even useing skills (with Spells this makes perfect sence (Obsidianflesh etc for Mage or Dark Bound on the Minion M;aster) that is a point that makes logical and Loretechnical not really sense, ands thats what i wanted to point out in the long post that, in its details is to much for here as i admited, but the basic is relevant because it shows that the most classes got ripped their heart and soul out to imply a pseudo flexibility – and as said with the “freedom” from beeing depended from a healer … u never was in GW —> thanks to the Secondary class – give me 1 hour and i build you 3 working ways to master every PvE content (beside GoA, uw or Fissur) with no classes playing its intented role

And the reason i just can “accept” it is: I just started to play GW again and released even more what GW2 is: It is a BETRAYAL on the idea of GW so many refuse to see: The Skill system is plain, uninspired, and casual friendly easy. The “Yeah you dont have to wait for a Healer anymore” *
is a Nobel cause but in long term a pretty bad idea. GW is EVERYTHING about teamwork, if you started in proph you came not even 2 meters out of Ascalon with out a group (after Tut). But in GW2 u have a bounch of Egomaniacs: they see you struggle with 2-3 enemies above what u can handle and it would take them 20 sec of their time to help you out but no, they run their way – where we at the next point. GW2 wanted to do EVERYTHING different from other MMOs but now you can fight alone 4-5 enemies alone sometimes even bosses like in every common MMO and is in many points just an other Asia Grinder.

  • a great idea would have been to SOFTEN the class roles: Like Warrior or Paragon are already in GW:

if you take the impact of a class in a chart of 100%:
a warrior is basically 80% tank and 20% Damage: if u change his Build you can make him 100% tank or quit a capable Damage dealer witrh 40-50% Tank and 50% damage, but you CANT take away his tankyness (in GW2 you are either Tank OR Damage dealer (something in between is considered useless) so the diversity is even lesser as in GW)

You can change him to 50% dmg, 20% tank and 30% control/support (but you cant take it away because his/her concept is based on it)

the same you could do with a Ranger who is around 75% Damage and 25% Sustain (beeing able to survive thinks other DPS classes dont survive):
so we could have got the possibility given in our hands to change it to somewhat: 30% Dmg, 50% sustain (so he/she can take the place of the tank for a short time or the dmg is good enough) and 20% control/support.

Mesmer: is around 60-80% pure control and 20-40% dmg dependable from the build: now with the illusions we would have a great way to change the setup of this class in following way: 30-40% control, 20% dmg and 40% sustain – but that comes from the CONTROL ability to, because with the illusions you distract the enemies from you and your team.

the assassin who is 70-80% damage and trough his/her capability to burst casters (and interrupt) 20-30% control (or full tank with Shadow form): now we could have get the possibility to change it to 40-50% , 20-30% control and 20-40% sustain (to survive even if you are get blown of your hide or need to replace the tank

and as last example the Elementalist: basiclly between 90-100 seen for its damage and 10% crowd control and here GW2 made a quiet good job so he/she is (in my eyes) way stronger as the most other classes (in PvE encounters) (since i was able to do the Priests on the Gods statues or the asura legendary in this big statue the Grawl worshiping in the shiverpeaks, alone on full heal): you can change it how the hell you want between sustain+support/heal, Support/heal+control, sustain+control but you cant take its damage away because it is what define this class

(but this turned away from the original topic)

all in all im Not saying GW2 is a bad Game but there are so many Ideas guided it away from what made GW1 already pretty Unique that it only shares the world with the old GW and isnt really a worthy successor.

well about the monuments: in cantha their is the Tanakai Temple, dedicated to the greatest heroes of the nation and once i heard/read that the hero of GW2 inherit the hall of monuments from their precestors so who loots it, and why we can still entzer it without Jormag noticing it (it is in his part of Tyria)

one the one side it is correct, we not alone saved humanity, but likewise Tyria: we acsented, Destroyed the Mursaat and the Lich. and the Entire World : We delved into the realm of Torment and Faced Abbadon alone with a blind Ex-Spearmarshall (who got godhood for causing that crap) —- Were there any other humans to help us? i think not

- yeah that makes total sense, that a Staff mage now (+ Stormcaller elite) heals with Water insane amounts and still are able to deal 3 times as much damage (by switching to fire or earth while water is on cd) as a full heal guardian (who uses “holylight”-magic what is the closest to monk magic) (my mage even has more Armor by the same armor stats and the same Trinkets) or Rangers who are “survival experts” and “loners” now group heal and the guardian (with his/hers “skills of light” skill set and Defender image) became a cowardly trapper with HoT

- so they gods dont answers the Prayers? i hinted on the example of this one Priestess of Grenth who can help you twice (dependent on witch decisions you make) by praying to Grenth to summon some spirits – either this is terrible planed and a horrible paradox, or one side is lying

- well and to grand grand … mother/father influence on our life .. i guess you didnt really understood the feudal-system: IT WORKS THAT WAY, i mean as INGAME examples: – you set Salma on the throne of Kyrtha because her ancestors were kings 250 years ago or something (so Queen Jenna bases her rule on a around 800-1000 years old bloodline)
- the emperor of Cantha has an even older bloodline (as i remember it right)

so Thakery is still a noble and WHY shouldn´t Salma made our Characters nobles after their years as Adventures – for their deeds to all of Tyria (and makeing her Queen (in revolutions it often gone this way))

well even this makes sense in order to the hero it just sets the end of EOTN as false statement and it is still not explained why humanity doesnt honor their greatest heroes as the other races do (and yeah i know they cant place a stature of some character but as i said, something that reminds about Flameseeker and such)

After all this years there are still a few questions i need answer to, to get at peace with GW2 (one of them i even asked the PR-Department per e-mail, and never got an answer):

- After the Death of the Great Destroyer Ogden said something like: “…..This is an other story, of the children of the heroes…”, but yet only the other races (beside the Shylvari who weren´t there) have Monuments of their great heroes (Jora, Vekk/Oola, Pyre…) and in Divinity Reach their is nothing Remembering the Fulfilling of the Flameseeker-Prophecy and the victory over the White mantle or the defeat of Abbadon (beside the Stature of Kormir) but the Queen get worshiped like a Half-God. and so we come to the second part of this Question: IF there IS ANY connection between the heroes of the old and the new ones WHY:
+ the human ones are either just: low Nobles /normal peasants/beggars while the
grand grand grand son of GWEN is the commander of the Queens personal
guard (and quite high in nobility)
+ the Charr ones getting discriminated by some low crew chief
(now the more logical once)
+ the Norn and/or Asura ones never hear a comparison with their ancestors

- (the question that was never answered) why the profession of monk simply perished but their skills got scattered across 2 or 3 other professions (and the turnback of the gods is a pretty week excuse since this skills still work, and their are people like this specific Priestess of Grenth who can still summon Spirits from the Underworld by calling out his name) (same is for some Paragon or Assassin skills who made their way into the new class-system despite the fact that the connection with Elona and Cantha has been lost)

- and Yeah, that makes a good additional question: why even have the gods abandoned humanity after they ensured close to the end of Nightfall that they will be always around as their “compassion/Strength/Justice/Inspiration/harmony” AND creating a new goddess

i want to make a Gem purchase via Online Banking but I´m very insecure about it because:

- there is no information about how it continues after i press “confirm”
- there is no description about the process to find
- and if i search the Support page for “Online Banking” i get some strange FAQ about becoming some kind of partner?

So if someone could please explain me how this works in this Game i would be glad.

/post eaten by closing a browser tab…

I agree that healers have it badly in this game, especially given how crucial they were in gw1. That channels to there being no decent shutdowns, and how pretty much everything can be blocked/blinded/dodged, even a field of fire directly under your feet.

By the way: were you a prot or a redbar monk? Protting style of gameplay still somewhat works in a few places, but red bars are the thing of the past.

I was a redbar, precisely a UA monk and a very good one if it is allowed to say…. so that´s a big reason for feeling useless now

Thank you for your mostly reasonable comments so far.
First I want to excuse my bad spelling but i hope you understand that i dont want to google EVERY word i know just to write it correct.

Some of you came already close to the point I really have but some people, i think, just want to defend what they like at this game – what is unnecessary. I never criticized the idea behind GW2 – i actually like the WAY of fighting, but in combination with the strengths of GW their would have been much more possible . I just think that the cut to make it more causal friendly was on the cost what mad GW1 special and what i loved on it: The nearly ultimate class balance and the freedom to create very powerful Charakter-only or teambased skillbuilds.

Also i want to add something about the difficulty of the encounter, without offence off course: GW was, as already said, strongly group based. And the now following i only said out of my opinion after 8 years healing in various MMO: In GW, If you wasnt able to move your self out of an AoE effect a skilled healer was still able to keep you alive – in GW2 you must look for yourself, so some contents feel harder then the ones in GW.
But just so much to my own opinion.

To finish it i come over to the statements about the Solo-Gameplay. In fact it makes your way off playing more free, whats a good thing and i dont want to make it down, but their are a lot of so called “Groupevents” you can finish at our own. Also that you can encounter at least 3 veterans or 2 elite or sometimes even a Boss solo is a step to far into a solo game as it should be in a MMO.

P.S. About playing a other MMO, i tried and still play some range off other but I dont totally dislike GW2 (how already said) either i dont want that my thousands of hours
in GW were totally in vain also their is no other MMO that is challenging me as healer as GW did, so see it as little tribute to good old times and to make it complete, their is no MMO fulfilling my wishes enough to just focus on it. Sorry if that was a bit to detailed now.

Hi to everyone reading this.

Well i just wanted to bring a few thoughts i had, some that wouldnt or werent ever answered by the support but i want the answer to them. Initiated is this topic by the news I wrote about the upcoming story extending – where some community wishes are tried to get fullfilled.

Well first: About 3-4 month befor GW2 was releast I wrote an e-mail to the puplicrelation depart: I wanted a plotfitting explainiation why the talent to be a “fighting monk” extincist in around 200 years – I never got an answer.
When i played the Game more questions appeared: I know you guys from anet and ncsoft wanted to start something new but for what a price? Everything that made GW special was sacreficest to release a prototyp: a very very very static skilltree worse then most other mmo i played so far, no indiviuality no creation freedom like in GW. Either their is no classbalance any more. As well GW2 is now a equiment orientat mmo where the quality and price of your gear matters and this for everyone viewable accountpoints are the death to ANY equaltality because you have a bad time finding a group for dungeons with less then 6k of them now – no matter your gear, your expirence with similar gameplays or your skill just because i have 1,5k (because i didnt played GW2 much, thanks to the many disapointments) I`m a dump, unskilled noob that isnt able to use the keyboard or ones given brain who would slow or destroy a run of a selfproclaimed 12k+ accpoint GW2 god that knows everything. – and well their isnt many one must know about the common Dungeoncontent: Fullbersek and Faceroll (made 80% of all dungeons and fractales till 30 so dont dare to bring a “but, blabla….” i saw it with my own eyes) and so i ask whats so special and new about GW2 expecting the fact their is no real heal anymore because the only tactic that exists is: making more Damage then the enemie.

Thank you for the time reading this and your, hopefully, constructive and rational answers.
