Possible Merge with Steam?

I’m not sure how it is with other MMOs. But for ESO, if you bought the game before it was released on Steam, your account could not be transferred. You would have had to buy a NEW copy on Steam and make a new account.

Why is the endgame so "unrewarding"?

From experience, I know that suggesting housing in a game with no housing is a touchy, controversial subject. I was just throwing one idea out there that didn’t include vertical progression. Another might be to put out a new vendor. There are threads about people complaining that the rewards after you are level/mp capped are disappointing. Maybe add a new currency and add a new vendor.

I don’t know. There are probably a ton of ideas for things they could implement.

Personally, I love vertical progression. I love working my butt off preparing for the next big thing. I love the satisfaction of accomplishing really difficult raids with friends. These are things I love in an MMO.

I’m still adjusting to the idea of horizontal progression. However, I quit WoW recently because the new expansion basically demands more time than I’ve ever seen before (I’ve been there since Vanilla). Basically every free moment was spent in WoW to meet not just my demands, but my guild’s. The final straw was realizing that I would never have a free weekend. Travel? Nope. Raid requires high attendance. Party at night? Nope. I have to work my butt off on dailies and grinding. Don’t get me wrong. The new expansion is great. So much to do. I just don’t want to put the time investment needed atm because honestly, in a game like that, I can’t be a casual player. I just can’t.

I fear the day I feel I run out of stuff to do here. But I know that day won’t be for a long time. It’s the perk of being a return player who really didn’t accomplish much the first time.

As far as stuff to occupy time, I imagine there are things that aren’t vertical progression that could be time sinks. Housing/decorating/crafting furniture is just one thing that comes to mind. Look at Rift. And what a huge potential financial gain for ANet in the item store.

[NA] Looking for Fun Guild

in Looking for...

Posted by: vanillexhope.2043

vanillexhope.2043

About Me:

  • 29 female
  • Fresh 80 Ranger
  • Been playing MMOs for over a decade, starting with text based ones.
  • I LOVE helping people. If someone asks a question, and I don’t know, I will usually look it up for them. If someone is wondering how to do a jumping puzzle, I will walk them through it if I have time. In all MMOs, my main is a healer. It’s been hard not to do that in this game, so I guess I overcompensate by being extra nice.
  • Casual, mostly PvE player. While I do ultimately want to prepare for raiding, I’m not hardcore by any means. I’ll get there when I get there. I’ll be playing a druid for heals, even though I know there’s a lot of criticism. I’m hoping the class works out its kinks.
  • My favorite parts of the game are achievements, jumping puzzles, events.
  • However, for the first time in my gaming history, I am interested in getting my feet wet in PvP. I plan on doing some intense research on PvP and when I’m ready, I’m hoping the guild can help introduce me to the PvP world.

What I’m looking for:

  • Active on voice chat. At least a few members who hang out most times, even when not doing any specific event.
  • No drama.
  • The guild, while not hardcore, is always striving to advance in the game. That means getting ready to raid.
  • Mature but willing to have a good time. I almost joined a guild before I realized they banned drinking and cursing (or showing signs of intoxication in chat or TS). That’s a no go. I have to be proper all day long, I don’t want to feel like I’m at church in my video game.
  • Girl friendly. It would be nice if you have some very active females in the guild.
  • Active forums or Facebook group.
  • Willingness to help out new players with questions.
  • Application to join required.

Is you voice chat pretty active even when there aren’t events going on? By active, I mean at least 1-5 people in it at most times.

Point to healing in public events?

I would point out though that credit shouldn’t be given to overhealing really. It’s situational. You can’t just sit there and spam aoe heal and expect Gold when no one was really taking damage. In that case, you would have better served to dps everything down faster.

However, in Rift, you can see everyone’s health, so you are in a better place to make that call as to whether you are more needed as dps or healing in that event.

I would like to see healers become more relevant in GW2.

In Rift’s public events, players get just as much credit for healing as DPSing. So this sounds like something that might need to be worked on.

Lost, Confused, New to Guild Wars 2?

in Players Helping Players

Can I ask a few questions about your guild as a returning player but still lost and confused at times?

- How big is your guild? From your website, it appears you have several “guilds” or “branches” of the same guild. The new player one, about how many active members are there?

- Do you “prune” out inactive members? What’s the inactivity threshold?

- How active is your voice chat when you aren’t doing any scheduled events? Are there a ton of people in one room? Do you have multiple rooms for various uses?

- Will you be raiding?

- I’m on a different server. Would I have to transfer to even try your guild? Or does GW2 let you join guilds cross server with limitations such as sharing maps. (for example could I access the chat while still being on a different server?)

Thank you for your time.

Gold Solution for ArenaNet AND Players

I’d hope they’d undo some of the damage they’ve done first. Here’s to wishing. That’s my point: sustainability. Profit is great, but not so much if your players are leaving because the quality has gone down.

Gold Solution for ArenaNet AND Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vanillexhope.2043

vanillexhope.2043

I’ve heard many thoughts on the gold system in the game. As well as complaints about ArenaNet taking features out of the core game and moving them to the expansion, thus forcing players who want those features to buy the expansion. The reasoning behind these things is pretty clear: ArenaNet is a business. As such, it wants to generate as much profit as possible.

That being said, ArenaNet is not going to do anything that cuts into its profits.

But there’s a compromise that may satisfy both parties. Here are some ways ArenaNet can milk money out of the people who can afford it, without harming the potential fun of the game (grinding for gold versus paying for gold instead of getting these things with fun gameplay).

- Add more skins and pets to the item store. There’s many people who will pay for those.

- Add player housing or SOMETHING that can be decorated, even if it’s just the instance. Rift does a very good job on this. They add items to the item store and there are a TON of people who will come throwing their money at you for this.

-Rift also has a little mini card game. Selling cards is profitable for them. You don’t have to copy this mini game. WoW does pet battles. But some sort of mini game that you can sell items for is extra money.

- Patron status. Enough said.

- Offer the option to pay for an auto level. Maybe it’s just an item that grants one level and they can buy as many as they want. However, it may be more profitable to do one lump sum like WoW.

Basically, add things that in no way take away from the original core features and doesn’t give an unfair advantage in stuff like PvP, raiding, etc.

The problem as I see it is that ArenaNet has a reputation. It doesn’t want to build a reputation that makes it obvious that they would rather you spend money for gold versus giving you active, immersive gameplay (instead of tedious grinding). This is going to turn players away, and they need to think about the sustainability of the playerbase for years to come. Of course things need to be hard. But there are so many other ways these things could be obtained: quest lines, achievements, etc.

TL;DR: Add a ton of things to the item store. Add housing (and thus more items in the store). Add minigames (with more items). Offer gamers substance when it comes to acquiring legendaries rather than relying on people being too lazy to farm and thus paying you. The latter is the easy, lazy way out. Don’t be that company, ArenaNet. You can do much better than that.

Yes, I’m a girl (most girl guilds verify through voice chat).

Thanks for the Facebook group link. I’ll give them a try.

Suggestion: Living Story + Objective Map

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vanillexhope.2043

vanillexhope.2043

I would like to premise by saying that I am a new player who has recently reached 80. The following is my experience as such. If I am missing something because of my own ignorance, please let me know!

Everyone’s goals are different in this game. Personally, map completion was my number one goal when I hit 80. I was excited to end my personal story so that my objective map (top right GPS thing. Sorry I’m not clear on the name) would go back to showing me the general directions to my goals in an area. So you can imagine how surprised I was when I finished my Personal Story only to have it start me on the Living Story 4.

There is a button in the panel to “Quit This Episode.” Great. Problem solved. I can quit it and come back to it later. Nope. Once you click this button, that compass map still shows the Living Story objective.

So I figure, fine. I’ll just do the Story and be done with it. Well, as a new player who did not play the previous episodes, I was shocked when I entered Dry Top. I had no idea what was going on. There didn’t seem to be any tutorial. I found myself taking quite a while to figure out the crystals. Then once I got the hang of that, I found myself getting completely lost and unable to find my quest objective.

So a guildmate suggested I buy the previous episodes. That especially Episode 1 would give me an introduction to Dry Top. Fine, I did. Now I’m left having to do 1 and 4 at least, and out of OCD, I’ll probably do 2 and 3.

What this means, is that I’ve now pushed map completion off for who knows how long. I’m sure many of you will say I can still do it without the compass. But isn’t the compass designed to make it easier? I know it really helped me from 1-80.

TL;DR: My suggestion is this: Please allow an option to pause the Living Story quest so that the compass will go back to normal.

As an aside, I would also point out that throwing new players in episode 4, with no tutorial for the new area was very confusing for me. I don’t really have a suggestion for this. Perhaps an introductory quest line so that we can better understand the area?

I know this was long, but I just wanted to give a clear idea of what I have faced at 80, and what I would have wished had happened.

If there is already a way to turn off Living Story, excuse this post and please let me know. It would be much appreciated.
