Well, I like the new content so far. I completed the gizmo that opens scarlets secret hidaway, and participated in a failed attempt on the marionette.
As for rewards, I did get a rare item somewhere in the L.P. event. Miss those loot bags, from her old invasion though….
Loot it this game has been crap since day one, why expect that to change?
I’m not complaining about getting AR, as a matter of fact I find people trying to sneak into fractals with AR thats too low funny. I had plenty of ascended gear to put the cheap 15 fractal relic infusions before the Fractured patch and Ascended armor came out.
What I was talking about is to run with minimal ascended gear you would need to grind up a lot of infusions to combine. IE two ascended rings would need 2+5 cheapo infusions and 2 +30 crafted infusions to allow someone to run 50th fractals with exotic gear. The more ascended gear the smaller the + on the crafted would need to be.
Theres also a 3rd type of player you didn’t mention which is integral to their success and thats the gem buyers. I donno exactly how much cash I spent on gems, but its been more than 15 dollars a month. I’m sure some people have bought hundreds if not thousands of dollars in gems in a month. Those people more than make up for the people who bought the game and never bought gems with cash.
BTW the concept of upselling in games came along long before 2000, just more prevalent because people balk at subscription fees these days. I remember when people paid hourly charges to play online in the mid 80’s and I remember upsells in the early 90’s.
Personally I prefer the subscription model, but I’ve supported Anet with some gem purchases. My cable TV is approximately 50 bucks of my 110 a month cable bill. I’d get rid of it except for my roomie as I rarely watch it, so 15 dollars a month for 150+ hours of game play per month is a real bargain.
(by the time your personal level for fractals is even close to 50 you should have FOUND all your infusions your self. Now if your personal lvl is 20 and you want to do lvl 50 Fractals , dont complain cause thats not how ANET intended it. (you DO NOT need ascended gear for lvl 50 fractals )
ANET design this game for 2 types of players ,
1: casual: Who want to slowly progress with out grinding.
2: hard core gamers : people that grind to get stuff faster.
its like comparing does FREE games on your phone/ internet browse. you build a farm , each thing takes a long time .. OR you can pay real $$ to advance faster.
same basics principle is applied to GW2. Welcome to 21st century gaming!

I was a JC and was the Wal-Mart of gems on my server. Being rich I’d level up my crafting and thus craft those items asap. I would also be able to buy the boe on the AH. Then I made sure to run the 5 mans as much as possible.
I PUGed in with a friend who ran very successful PUG raids. He didn’t invite you back if you sucked, rage quit, etc… The raids required a coin investment at the start that was split up at end of raid to encourage people to stay until the end. After each boss kill we would roll for loot, but the person who won each piece could sell if they wished and the loot-master would loot to the buyer instead.
So other then when I won loot by rolling there was little luck involved. More like being wealthy and paying top prices for gear. My guild had a rather substantial number of raiders so I would sit out a few weeks while I was in the PUG raids. This allowed more people in my guild to get loot from the early raids AND more loot from raids when I raided with the guild because I already had the gear that dropped or better .
It was just my private competitiveness to see how well geared I could get. I didn’t begrudge anyone their gear.
Here in GW2 I like to gear up as well. I don’t earn a lot of gold because they keep a tight reign on the economy here, but I still gear up. Those precise infusions cost 35-40 G each to craft. Are they worth it? Probably not, but then what else to spend the gold on?
After I have 3-4 sets of ascended armor I’ll probably start crafting those precise omni infusions. They cost around 100 G to craft.
I don’t mind a bit of grind or that theres not a drastic power improvement. Just don’t like 3 steps forward 2 steps back.
I dislike the loot system here as you almost never get any gear you can actually use. I have at least 20 infused rings in my locker now, 2 armor boxes, and 3 weapon boxes. ALL useless. I also have an assortment of weapons from boxes that I did open also useless.
Crafting mats is about all you can expect with an occasional exotic you can sell. So while WoW might have competition for drops at least you get useable drops when you do win.
Maybe I’m biased because I was good at acquiring gear there….
The majority of people play computer games to see content and a lot of people want to defeat the hardest content. In GW2 that means high level fractals (Although they aren’t that hard). In order to defeat the highest level fractal (currently 50) you need a lot of AR.
In order to get that AR you need to grind for ascended gear, or use minimal ascended gear with infusions that have been stacked, which require a substantial investment in gold. Takes some grinding (Or at least some gem buying), to get that gold.
One of the things I have disliked in MMOs is the constant buffing/nerfing, and the constant having to change rotation, spec to meet the flavor of the month.
I’d much rather have NEW abilities then to have all my abilities reworked. Although my main toon is a ranger here, I have always played wizards and mages in games before. In the big MMO I specced for arcane when nobody played the spec and I enjoyed the play style. I played an arcane mage threw numerous buff/nerf cycles, but then I finally grew tired of it and quit playing MMOs for a few years.
I tried several other MMOs before trying GW2, but stuck with GW2 because I liked the elegant combat system and animations. In my book, if you don’t want a gear grind then expand the talent trees and abilities and release more permanent end game content.
I guess I’m just complaining because I put a lot of effort into acquiring all of the ascended gear and a nerf to direct damage feels like a step backwards. I play mostly PVE and there is already a lot of elitism evidenced in the LFG. When I post an LFG party I just ask for the amount of AR and I don’t care what gear/spec/class you are. I was in a fractal once with all rangers. I don’t remember the level, but it was a blast! and we finished. I’m pretty sure ANY party makeup can finish the content.
I’m not going to be too happy when the LFG ads are condi only NO zerker! If they buff Condition I’ll probably build up a set of gear for that, I would have done that to begin with if it was designed better. Now because of the 25 stack limit there are situations and party make ups that just wont work very well.
If the upcoming changes are only regarding WvWvW or SPvP i’ll be quite happy and shut up. I have dabbled in WvWvW and while I enjoy it, the rewards to each server are crazy, its more about who has the biggest zerg then about skill. The maps are too big for the number of players inside the zone and there needs to be a real reason to defend and not just zerg.

30/30/0/10/0 traited for 70% spirit and spotter. Pets situational, mostly tanky or buff pets.
Signet of the hunt, signet of the wild, SaR,RaO. Gear zerker and assassin. crest of the assassin in rune slots, sigil of accuracy in longbow, sigil of force in axe, sigil of accuracy in warhorn. precise infusions in off infusion slots.
This gives me buffs for the party, rezz for downed players, and decent dps. With potent S.S. and SnS butternut squash to help with power. This gives me 123% crit damage with longbow, 133% crit damage with axe and 99% crit chance when furry is up.
I also carry a power based set of swap out gear, and will be working on PVT set as well. Allowing me to mix and match gear if I need to.

I just read threw most of the posts and some good points were made. Yes I was doing level 49 fractals with just ascended amulet and rings as well. No ascended armor and weapons are not required.
I enjoy grinding to get better gear even if the stat increase is marginal, but I don’t want to see giant nerfs to my gear after putting in all the effort to acquire it. I’m only average skilled when it comes to play ability and with some of my personal limitations I’m about as far along that path as I can go.
Everyone plays for different reasons and I’m not here to look good by making someone else look bad. I like to minimize my liabilities by bringing all assets at my disposal to the table. I’m the guy that frequently uses the top of the line food, oils, sharpening stones, even in mid-level fractal runs. After completion of my sophir armor I’ll be working towards the omni-infusions.
Someone posted about me having an almost full set of ascended. I have a full set of Zojja armor, 4/6 of the Saphir set, and will most likely craft a power, toughness, vitality set as well.
I’d just much rather see other specs fixed then see crit nerfed, when both sets of my armor, all my trinkets and weapons rely on it. Remove the 25 stack limit.
There is plenty of discrimination against various classes and specs and it kinda sucks when you happen to be in one of those groups. Every day in LFG fractals you see “Heavys only”, “No thieves, rangers, eng,”," zerker only". And some people asking you to link gear.

I didn’t come to play Guildwars 2 until last summer so I’m newer then many. The reason I came was because of the quality of the combat system and yet more casual play. One of the things touted by Anet was there was not going to be a gear grind.
I played the world’s biggest MMO and as we all know its a gear grind every major patch and each expansion. I didn’t mind the gear grind, in fact I enjoyed seeing how far I could go with my gear.
There is a major gear grind here in that yes there is less levels of gear, BUT it takes longer to acquire each piece. Between all the methods of gear acquisition I sometimes averaged a new piece of gear a day in the other MMO, in fact I reached top 5 gear score several times during my stint in that game. Not because I’m an ultra skilled raider, but I was skilled in finding out what gear I needed and how to get it.
Here in Guildwars 2, all but a few of my items were from crafting and to a lesser extent laurels. Like that other MMO I’m one of the better equipped, but really its a matter of grinding out the materials.
I dislike the RNG setup, because so many of the nice rewards are useless to me as a player. I go months between any loot that is useful as far as gear goes. I wish I could give all the ascended gear that isn’t useful away to friends or something. Or just don’t give it to me at all.
Oh wow an ascended chest! Oh crap its just locker bait AGAIN….
I was really excited about the balance livestream until I got to the part about crit damage changes. As a ranger I have enough discrimination from other players. Now lower my damage further then it already is?
I don’t know much about the other classes, but I have put a LOT of effort into maximizing my dps because rangers are perceived by many as low dps.
Right now I’m at 113% crit damage with my bow(s), and 123% with main-hand ax. I have 72% Crit chance without buffs.
I have crafted an ascended Zojja set of armor AND am 4/6 into crafting an Saphir set. Along with crafting 3 bows, and a warhorn. I also crafted a total 8 precise infusions. Please don’t lower my dps further after all the work I have put into building my set up.
I don’t like condition builds because of the stack limits, which leads to wasted stacks. Don’t nerf crit, buff condition instead.
Create better mechanics for boss fights etc… to give people a reason to try other specs.
Yes, My toon is a ranger. I have crafted ascended Longbow, Shortbow, and Horn for weapons, Also crafted 4 parts of the ascended armor set. So let me pass the loot thats not for my specs, or vend for 5 gold or something, or just come up with some other rewards.
Maybe food, maint oils, sharpening stones, just slightly better than craftables or with longer durations.
Or how about temp particle effects for my arrows, axes, or whatever? Give me 1 hour buff of arrows that look cool when you shoot and I’d be happy.
Or how about including revive orbs and repair kits?
Ad infinum.
Back in the day the text based Gemstone 2 (Now Gemstone 4) you dropped items in hands at death and inventory when spirit departed. This led to a lot LOT of problems and bad feelings.
Many of the way things are done in modern MMOS are from lessons learned in the older original multiplayer text games. If you make items drop then you will just cause frustration for people. Armor taking damage and then needing repair helps drain some of the gold, theres no need to create a get gear to replace gear dropped grind.
Hi, I have been playing since around August and this game is fun for me, but I intensely dislike that I win so many things that are just useless to me. I really only play one toon and have no desire to play a bunch of toons.
I have won 5 ascended weapons chests, and two ascended armor chests all from fractals. Lucky you say? Bah, of the seven items not one is optimal and only one is useable for me.
Let me pass to other people in fractal with me, let me sell for more than a few silver, or let me salvage for a decent amount of materials or something.
I fail to see how I’m supposed to enjoy winning these useless prizes. I’d rather see them more rare then to pile up in my bank.
I have supported the game threw gem purchases, but I’m considering not buying any more, when the rewards for being in fractals aren’t up to snuff. If I have to craft all of my gear to have what I want, then I can just do that with in-game gold.
Some folks just don’t get it I guess, when Karate started getting big in the US they extended the belt color system because people like to advance and feel more powerful. Student, Teacher, Master just wasn’t enough….
Arenanet learning that lesson. Once you have all your toons looking the way you want then theres nothing much to do. If people aren’t playing then they aren’t buying gems. The parent company isn’t showing a good return because the boxed game isn’t selling as hot as it was ether.
You only have to look at the biggest MMO of all time to see that theres a lot of people who enjoy, or at least don’t mind a bit of grind. Even with this new armor theres still a heck of a lot less grind here than in most MMOs.
The stat gains are modest enough and you really don’t NEED the new ascended gear for any content in the game now.
In the end its a lot cheaper to increase people’s power a little bit threw stats on gear then it is to expand the trait lines.
I recently transferred to Blackgate in hopes of having a more rewarding experience, there are a lot of good players on the server. However because of constantly being pushed into overflow I am unable to complete the events I need in order to obtain Dragonite. I get there early and its already full and I get shoved into overflow. Which has no chance to defeat the content.
I spent 1800 diamonds and am getting less gameplay. I want my diamonds back! Heh.
The looking for group tool is very nice, but along with it I’d like to see something done to keep people from joining higher level fractals than they are ready for. IE Newb player thinks he’s the bomb, so he joins a level 10 fractal group even though he has never been in ANY fractal. Nor has he watched the videos or read the basic strategy of the dungeons.
Can you please give us the ability to have the pop up boxes for the end of fractals or when someone chooses to abandon a fractal, to be adjustable? Its like a slap when the box just rudely pops up. Today there was a newer player whom I thing was slightly immature, who popped up the vote box more than 5 times when things were not going well for him.
Personaly, I like the pets, but I HATE that they come out automatically. Its annoying when climbing for one…. The utility buffs are nice and the helping in a downed state excellent. Pulling also great!
+1
I have been playing a month or so and find many things I like about the game. It is indeed less grindy then the bulk of MMOs out there.
I enjoyed the Queen and Scarlet living world events, but am feeling let down by these last two. SAB pays homage to the 8 bit or maybe even the 4 bit days, but way out of line as far as living world. You can see by the developers video that a lot of work went into it, but theres no shortage of that type of content outside the MMO and its a poor fit.
This week the LFG rolls out in limited beta when we were led to believe it was ready to go.
Then the new dragon fight comes out and its an organized fight set in open world. So basicly going to be for guilds to bring down. The start of a type of raiding.
After a few gos at the beast I starting realizing that it was kinda weird that a flying creature just plops itself down for the whole fight. What the heck, the big MMO had great fights against flying dragons. I guess its a major flaw, but dragons that don’t fly while you fight them is just not what I visualized.
