I just started up GW2 yesterday for the first time in months, downloaded a couple hundred MB, logged in, logged off and started it up again today.
1 of us did the same a couple days ago, but wanted to look how it is on a “full” server after returning. Turns out he can’t switch back.
And we just told our mate in teamspeak yesterday that we were considering returning to GW2. Turns out he didn’t know of any update or that server transfers are not for free anymore – and that he’s on another server.
He hadn’t really considered coming back and I wanted to convince him to give it a try. Guess how that went.
why a period for a free transfer?
just 1 transfer, that’s it.
people who come back in maybe 1 month or later might face the same problem.
all their guildies maybe on another server and now they have to pay $$$ just to join them again. that could be a showstopper for some of them.
a simple popup “this is your last chance to change servers for free before logging in. are you sure you want to login on <server name>?” would do it.
as things look now we’ll not pay the transfers and we’ll probably never come back to gw2.
good work. you can be proud of yourselves.
we’re three people with a similar problem.
after a gw2 break for some weeks we decided to give it another try and now end up on 3 different servers (next time, send ppl an email or put a warning on the login screen)
you know, we were on different servers for several reasons: e.g. the buggy skill events.
so what do you suggest to do if we want to play together again, especially in wvw (and i understand there will be an interesting wvw patch coming …. the main reason why we would consider coming back)?
- i don’t care about any realm war map progress if the enemies are exchangeable.
- there is no karma for wvw kills, but you get karma for killing guards. it’s just another currency that you can farm.
- badges are also not “progress”, it’s just farming.
it’s good that all these things work nicely for YOU but apparently there are a couple players who see it differently. But don’t bother. A lot of them have left already.
Nope, but it is a visible “progress”, even if it’s just a bar that’s moving and you get some “reward” when it is full. It’s something to look forward to.
I had zerg fights in GW2, small group fights (3-4 of us vs a couple enemies) and easy 1vs3+ fights and a bunch of impossible 1vs1 fights where I had no chance. All of it was “fun” but I’m missing the “progress” part.
And this progress doesn’t need to give any advantage (like better stats etc), I think that’s the important thing here.
Actually I don’t need it myself. If my enemies would have that and I’d run around in crafted stuff with “rank 1” then that would still be enough for me.
You probably never played DAoC. GW2 doesn’t even get close.
who said “power based endgame progression”?
how would something like – let’s say – a wvw rank give you any “power” or “advantage”?
progression could also mean bada** armor skins (please don’t come up with the honor badges pyjama armor) or titles that the enemy could see.
so if you play spvp 24/7 then you get a title that others can see in wvw, if you do a lot of wvw then there’s nothing but the ridiculous wvw achievement titles.
boy, this blows.
i just had an amazing experience in a “frontier” zone, where 3 factions battle against each other and try to conquer fortresses and towers, with siege weaponry and so on.
it was real fun, running through a valley always expecting that enemies could be hiding behind the next rock.
and then of course, it happened. there was a group of 4, defending the area around a tower. i took my chances and attacked them.
tough fight. but they got me, of course.
nothing unusual, you say?
right.
but it is so much more fun if you can see the name and rank of the people you’re fighting against. so, no it was an mmo shooter and NOT guild wars 2 and at the moment I can’t see any reason why I should come back.
Anonymous PvP is the most stupid and boring thing ever invented.
Why don’t you just replace the fricking players by NPCs. why bother.
“skill” in an 1vs1, 1vsx or 5vsx or zerg vs zerg or whatever can actually mean beating someone who is playing better than you, and not just “better equipped” or “higher rank”.
even if everyone has the same equipment, there will always be someone who is better than you. maybe because they know how to counter your attacks and use them against you, or maybe because you make a mistake and they don’t. or maybe they just bring a bit more brain into the battle than you do.
e.g. 1 person can lure 4-5 stupid enemies into a zerg, and survive.
I understand that WvW rank + abilities (%damage and whatsoever) are off the table and I think that’s a good decision.
The player skill based combat works quite ok. Good players are hard to beat, and some let’s say “not so good” players can come in groups of 2-3+ and you can still kill at least some of them, if not all. That’s how it should be.
However why not offer at least some kind of progress?
There are SPVP rank titles, would it hurt to have something similar in WvW?
And give us maybe different tiers of armor skins and weapon that require a certain WvW rank. It won’t give you any benefits at all, but I think people would still welcome it.
As a ranger I’m not interested in collecting medals and aquiring PVP gear, because the medium PVP armor is not exactly the most beautiful piece that I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
