Transgressions about Raids

Find and join other raid guilds until you come across one that is a good fit. You can even join multiple raid guilds at once to maximize your chances, since most guilds only raid certain days in a week.

In terms of pugging, I find it a lot easier to just the groups that are LFM, rather than post myself in LFG and waiting for someone to pick me up.

Raid learning Issue - question for dev

I like the idea of having an auto queue for raids, but it would work better for experienced raiders to just auto queue together for some casual kills. For training purposes, it would be terrible.

I think the main issue would be that everyone would be queuing with others of similar skill. So, if I was brand new to raids, I would get grouped up with 9 other people that are also brand new to raids. So the “training” group would be just 10 random people brand new to the fight getting tossed in there with no guidance, direction, or even commander. I highly doubt much progress can be made under such conditions, and it’s more likely to be a waste of time as people inevitably drop and have to be replaced every couple of pulls.

From what I’ve seen the quickest way to learn raids is in training groups where there are enough exp players to keep the fight under control, and then the trainees can just focus on the mechanics and themselves. A lot of training runs I see cram too much trainees in, and its just a mess. For instance in VG training, if your tank is getting ported constantly and greens are back spawning, everything just becomes chaotic. For the other trainees in that run, they aren’t getting much value as the things causing the mess are outside their control.

How to get into raids?

Getting into raids in GW2 is actually really easy. The caveat is that you need to be proactive and be willing to invest a decent amount of time (at least in the initial learning phase).

Step 1:
Gear and learn the basics rotations and CCs of one or more meta raid classes (more is better). Practice on golem until you can do a semblance of the basic rotation and CC.

Step 2:
Learn the bosses. Read some basic guides or watch some videos, and then join everything. Join as many raid guilds as you can, and in between scheduled runs join all the pug runs you can find. Doesn’t matter if groups suck or you killed the boss already, you are only there to practice. Practice until you know all the mechanics, timings, and can get through the fight with zero mistakes confidently.

Step 3:
Previously most runs you join will be training runs or filled with pretty bad players. Now it is time to move onto more experienced groups and get kills without (hopefully) banging your head against the wall. Start joining experienced runs and pug groups. Ignore the KP/LI requirements on LFG. If they insist on it when you join, just tell them to kick you if you make a single mistake. Majority of groups will be ok with that, if they are not, just leave and find another. Of course the caveat is that you can’t make mistakes in the run, and if you are, you should go back to Step #2.

raid selling. own lfg, right?

i wish i knew enough people that wanted to burn the market. if your cool with wasting your time you could easily crash it. just sell your raids cheaper than theirs. they get nothing you get it all. they drop their prices you drops yours.

We dabbled in this a few times and concluded it wasn’t just a matter of wasting time, but it was stupidly frustrating. After dividing by the 8 or so people, each member of the raid seller team doesn’t actually make very much per boss. If you only undercut them slightly, most people will pay the little bit more for seller with better reputation.

When we tried it, we were just doing some casual 8 mans and had 2 empty slots anyways, so we basically figured we’d sell each boss for 16g. 2g each to cover our food costs because we were raiding already regardless. Although we filled up pretty fast, the logistics was really frustrating. Because we had no reputation nobody trusted us to pay beforehand (understandable), but at the same time we didn’t trust them to pay at the end lol. So we told them to pay at 10%, but of course nobody did, and then we had to /gg and start all over at sub 5%. So a quick 5-8 min fight becomes double that, with all the overhead of waiting for buyers etc, super not worth it.

I think if you want kills, easier to just make some friends. I’d rather carry friends/guildies for free than bother with the few gold you make selling.

Pls don't perma block in Raid Pugs

If you are wondering why so many people have you blocked, I can tell you because you are also on my block list.

1) You are a hypocrite. You come to forums complaining how people are toxic and elitist and won’t give anybody a chance. Yet when I ran into you in a raid PUG on an alt, you instantly told the commander to kick me because I didn’t have enough AP lol.

2) When I ran into you in T4 fractals, you kept complaining and being an kitten , even though you were the one walking over everyone else with social awkwardness.

3) Instead of some self reflection and improvement, you constantly run to forums and guild chats to try to garner sympathy and shifting to blame to everyone else.

4) You aren’t skilled enough at the game for most of us to put up with the trouble of having you around when we can just replace you with someone more pleasant.

Hope that helps!

Chaotic Persistence and Condi Duration

in Mesmer

I made a condi mesmer following [qt]’s guide here: http://qtfy.enjin.com/mesmer#Gear2

I noticed that after all the gear/food/utility I only sat at around 82% condition duration which was odd, since usually condi builds would try to max 100% condition duration (at least on the main conditions). After some digging, it seems like the 82% condition duration was chosen because on average you will have 6 boons on you, and with the 3% condition duration from chaotic persistence for each boon, you get perfectly 100%. Sounds great.

However, when doing DPS golem tests and giving myself all the boons (11 different boons), I noticed that my condition duration number in the hero panel does not increase. After a bit more digging around, I found something that suggested that the increase was on the base duration itself, but the skill tool tips weren’t showing increased condition durations either.

Finally, I decided to just test it on the golem. I tested in two ways. First was to get myself to about 67% boon duration and 11 boons, and seeing the length of my torment stacks with scepter auto attack with and without chaotic persistence traited. In theory, with it traited I should have 100% condi duration, but I was seeing the exact same torment duration on the golem.

Next, I tested with scepter 3. First with master of misdirection and no chaotic persistence, and then with no master of misdirection and chaotic persistence and 11 boons. In theory the confusion duration should be the same for both. But in practice I was seeing about 2 seconds less confusion duration when doing the second setup.

So my question is, am I missing something, or does chaos persistence not increase condi duration like it states?

Thanks.
