everything torsailr said. there is a really fine line with selling fanart anything. a LOT of companies wont do anything about it because its just pennies of loss to them, but that doesn’t mean they wont. It’s always best to err on the side of caution.

Yuo still gotta be careful with it tho, since if people recognize them for what they are it can still be a thing. Copyright laws prevent you from just changing small aspects and calling it original, since that is still technically stealing patented ideas x.x

I don’t know exact regulations to it, but I would still err on the side of caution since GW2 specifically says you cannot use their ideas or whatever for monetization.

And also as a side note, I am not giving you legal advice, just personal advice (since I don’t know actual specifics, just going off memory lol)

That’s where the complications come in, it’s a college project yes, but I need to sell them, it’s part of the project, as I said earlier, I need to create a product/service.

if it is purely academic it should be fine from what I know. copyright law has exceptions for academic stuff, or for things that teach in general, as long as it is not for monetary gain. I think its under 1976 or something, fair use act? I don’t recall xD

Just letting you know that if you are planning to make profit on this I think it can infringe on copyright laws if you did not get permission from guildwars creators to do this.

And even if you aren’t planning to make a profit, it can still be viewed as that. Not trying to be a party crasher, just trying to give a heads up that if your idea gets enough notice you might be questioned about it or told to stop, or worse x_x A lot of companies are pretty severe on what they allow and disallow D;

Hmm. I think this would have been a lot more impactful if you used some more shading/contrast in the darker colors, and also cleaned up the lines and the color fills.

It’s a very cool concept overall, but taking more time to do the suggestions above would have been great for this piece ^^

It is not just on this site. ANY online site follows copyright laws, as these are laws that are generally universal. If you’d like more information on copyright infringement, you should google it and see what all it has to say. It’s a very huge deal, and legal action can and will be taken if you infringe on people’s copyright. They can get to be very ugly cases, and are definitely not worth it.

If you don’t understand copyright law, here is a too long didn’t read short summary:

If you didn’t create it completely, get permission from the original creator, or original artists to sell it, then do not use it. Unless the creator/artist has given explicit permission, you aren’t supposed to use it for anything really, be it free use (Non commercial works), or for making money.

Even doing something as small as re uploading the image with proper credits can become a legal thing, though you see people doing this all the time. Its a pretty sticky and egg-shell filled field, really. When in doubt, just don’t do it without permission lol

I use Sai. It’s a much cheaper alternative to photoshop.

And while the above person said PS might not be a drawing program, it is actually becoming more and more draw friendly with new editions coming out. I don’t use it too much other than to touch up my images when I need to sometimes, but I know people who create wonderful images from scratch from it. It has a really good handle on texture brushes and you can easily create your own brush sets with unique textures. Sai lets you do this too, but its not as user friendly for it and the options are far more limited. Still, I draw everything I do from Sai from scratch and find it quite nice ^^

So I made a reported ticket ingame but I never got any info on what ticket number it was. It was reported as a bug as suggested by other players.

The ticket was sent in I believe 2 days ago, with a screenshot. It was about an item I sold on the black lion trade broker for 2c because it auto clicked into the ‘sell now’ or whatever instead of letting me pick a price. The item was worth 70-80g, not 2c. I’ve never even been able to sell something for just 2 copper before because it always tells me I can’t sell for so little, so why did this one work? The item was a weapon skin from the black lion tickets I collected.

Can anything be done? D;

Putting in a CS ticket is all you can do for those scraps. CS is usually fairly nice with mistakes like this as long as your account doesn’t show a pattern of similar requests. These two links may be helpful.

Hmm well I put it under bug or whatever cuz someone told me I should put it under that. I was given the option to screenshot the sale, which I did, and then put a brief description. But when I sent it it thanked me and said they don’t reply to those reports x_x

as this is a trade for something not related to the game (ie, not a game item) then customer service probably will not help you. You can try reporting them via a customer service ticket, but I doubt it will make any difference.

I do have a question though, since you brought up service tickets.

A few days ago I got my hands on enough ticket scraps to get a weapon skin. I then put the skin on the item broker, and when I clicked it to sell it my mouse accidentally double clicked and it auto went in for 2 copper (It was 70-80g on the broker).

I put in a ticket with a screenshot explaining what happened but never got a word back. Is all hope last? D;

Did not know naming them could get me in trouble. Most places are perfectly fine with it, and they will let you do it on a blacklist to alert other artists that they scam so they don’t get into the same situation with the person D;

but yea, I might just do a customer service report. I had a friend mail them to tell them to remove me from their block list, and that if they do not they will be reported lol. We’;ll see how this goes I guess? e_e

PS:

I am happy to say it was resolved. When my friend mailed them, they contacted me and apologized and said their little brother got on the account and blocked all his friends. Whether true or not (I’ll hope it is for his sake xD), it means I got my payment ^^

Just post pics of your character and i’ll let you know if I can do it. I’ll accept all the payment after the art is completed. I’ll give you a smaller watermarked version before I get payment, and once I receive the payment I’ll give you the larger unwatermarked version.

I will usually not draw helmets that fully cover the face, however I am open to talking about this. This is generally only really here because for the most part I feel like if the face is covered, you wont be able to really get the full awesomeness of your character unless the cover is a very big part of who that character is. My goal is to draw out the essence of the character =D
