I understand the ‘L’ in EULA means License… but I am no expert in law.
I wouldn’t assure so openly that reselling is forbidden, because if someone ever gets banned/suspended for playing with a legal second-hand copy, here or on in any other online game, we will see it on the news for sure (just try a search on “Valve sued” + “resell games”). Steam is also based on “accounts” and that doesn’t mean that this accounts system can stop the buyer of the license to resell it when they want.
I was just curious if in Arenanet were aware of this, because it’s not so known.
Also, I cannot check it right now, but I remember that the EULA for Europe is slightly different, may be because of this.
Well, security is one thing, and selling the account something completely different: IP’s cannot be used to identify the owner of a software, just the access point.
The only data the company has is the mail account, which we can change, they don’t have any personal data. Sell your game, send the box and serial code and the new owner can change the email and password. Even if it was illegal to do so, which it isn’t (only in Europe, unless something changes in the future) , they cannot know for sure that the sale was made.
The policy is fine and I completely agree with the reasons for it, just curious.
Well, the policy can be applied to any other company that sells goods: cars, clothes, books… all second-hand market.
But also, you have a good point there: a policy that you cannot assure is not useful for anyone.
It’s “one owner per account, forever.” No sales, trades, pass-alongs, give-aways, use as a prize, recycling… Once the original owner is done, the account will remain accessible to that person but cannot be supported for anyone else.
Sharing or passing-along game accounts is strictly forbidden by the User Agreement.
Excuse for the offtopic but, are you aware that that doesn’t apply for games sold in Europe? As Oracle and Steam already know, reselling used software is allowed

We review appeals thoroughly. Anyone who believes he or she was unfairly banned only has to write to us to get a clear answer.

There’s a player affected by this ban, that already had two answers with no reasons at all, from the support team in spanish: they just say that “the account is banned and no further questions regarding this account will be answered. Any other issues opened will be closed without answer.” I think that’s really far from a “clear answer”.
He cannot post in the forums because of the ban, and asks me to do so in his behalf. How can he write to get an explanation of what went wrong? He’s mainly a WvW player, well known and respected in the spanish community, and of course never used any kind of alteration of the client.
Could it be that the spanish support team are not following the same guidelines for unbanning/answering the players in this case? The user is Moss.9018 and the ticket number 130420-000121. How can he get a clear answer?
Thanks in advance for your attention.
Edited to add the ticket number.

Am I the only one who thinks that they should have warned us that the names were still reserved? I though that they were lost 24 hours after launch, as they said in blog, and only found out one week ago that, for some reason, they still were reserved…
Actually, people were reporting the reserved names as a bug, and support didn’t know about names not being free…
That’s the reason I haven’t been able to consider to buy more slots to keep my names: I just though they were not reserved for me, because nobody said they were.
ANET called it a one-time event. They have given warning to everyone interested in the game that it’s not going to happen again. You don’t need to do it to access the resulting content, it’s just there for flavor.
I agree with that, but the problem is: what if I am interested in the event, and I am at the right place and the right time but the game doesn’t show the event for me and/or the servers crash ? Both things happened in Halloween, and probably will happen again this time.
The idea can be good, but the game and servers are not prepared for it, unless something very big changed in these 15 days and we still don’t know about it.
Well.. yes, I completely missed it, my fault :P thanks for the comment.
Sometimes is very difficult when you are not native to english
I don’t like one-time events, because the game is not ready for them. Someone already posted suggestions to resolve the problem:
I agree with the suggestion. I think it’s a terrible mistake to make these one-time events, because the game is not prepared for it.
Another solution could be to make them repetable during 24 hours or so, like the events in GW 1.
I paid 100g to show up on your map and hot kitten i’m gonna show up on your map no matter the zone or whether you want me there or not!
seriously though, if commander is here to stay ( fingers crossed it gets removed) then at least give us this small thing.
¿Really? Is that the kind of respect we can expect from the commanders? What impression do you think we have about them with that attitude?
That “small thing” you say, we cannot avoid, it shows up no matter how far in the map the commanders are, and hides every other useful information we need for our gameplay, at least in PvE maps or even citys and events.
What we are proposing is a way to hide them while we are playing, given the fact that, let’s say, half of the commanders don’t care about bothering PvE players.
Not a bit, but very disappointed. After 1 hour my group haven’t been able to enter the instance.
Same here… It’s not the same watching the scene in youtube.. I was patient and waited to see it in my computer but couldn’t because the game it’s not ready for massive events. Thanks again for a not-so-good work.
