Bloody Prince's armor
Really awesome indeed.
Astrid Strongheart, Norn Ranger.
“I wish juvenile wolves were bigger”
Neat. Not my thing, since my necromancer’s a sylvari, but still nice.
I can’t stand the look of the Bloody Prince.
Reminds me a lot of the Guild Wars 1 Necro armor
Those spikes coming out of his chest look BOSS!
I can’t stand the look of the Bloody Prince.
At least it’s not Scarlet again.
Hmm, if they put that out I wonder what armor types med. and heavy will look like. Hopefully just as awesome.

Looks like Scartet’s boyfriend the Joker.

Indeed, that’s what makes me want it so bad. There’s a very distinct lack of necro styled light armor in the game.
Reminds me of GW1 male monk Primeval armor.

I like the one on header better…
Isn’kitten Charr btw?

so are you saying there will be the prince costume in gem store on Halloween event? :O exciting.

That is nice to hear that his appearance will be available as a Towns Clothes costume, but would you pass word along to the armor designers that this style of armor is highly desired by players (especially for necromancer players), and it would be very, very nice to see future armor designs made available that are similar in appearance to this, please?

I honestly don’t understand why we still make that distinction. It’s a boolean flip at best, filling a few variables with asset names at worst.
Aside from the stats entry there is no real difference between the two.
Why not just sell it as an armor skin since people seem to want that? Looks enough like light armor, and light “armor” is just clothing for the most part anyway.

Thank you for the clarification Regina. It was something that was bugging me about the screen-shot itself, because it looked like a normal human with a costume on (but I was not too sure). So I take the prince has a more unique facial detail then we see there.

Sweet! another useless item I won’t buy due to poor implementation. You’re really going out of your way to make sure I don’t spend a dime in your gem shop! Love it!.
IF you want people to really buy costumes make them useful and fun.
- Checkbox toggles to make said costume part replace currently equipped armor look.
- NPC so I can reclaim any costume/armor skin at any time on any character, just like in gw1.
Implement those and I’ll end up buying every single costume and armor skin in the gem shop. Currently I won’t touch them due to their poor implementation.
Those spikes coming out of his chest look BOSS!
lolwut… everything but the spikes looks ok.. but.. those those things.. lol.. they picked the worst aspect of GW1 armor to bring over.. the silly, clunky, random spikes coming from nowhere.
Also.. why does he look emo? he looks so awesome in the concept art.. tough & menacing. Then he’s just this skinny emo guy in game. what is with that?
also costume… wut.

Well, if that is a picture of the costume, then there is a good chance that this was not a picture of the Prince, but just a player in the “prince costume”
Looks more like a goth parody than a kitten.

The stance in this image looks makes this look like armor and not town clothing.
If you use a Toy while in town clothes, you go into combat stance.

Because this would entail them to make 2 other armor sets (medium and heavy)?

Must be a costume brawl toy he is carrying then.
What if it’s more OP than the Mad King scepter. Is that possible?

Because then it would need to be designed as 6 pieces, which would result in it looking completely different. Look at the picture, how would you chop that up in a way that makes sense? You can’t. It would start to look very similar to existing armor sets.
One thing they could do(theoretically), which was done in GW1, is to make a costume slot for you character that you could wear over your regular armor. This would mean programming new functionality and we know how rarely we get that. >__>

Lame. Finally release some great Necromancer armor and its just town clothes.
“This screen shot actually shows the Bloody Prince Thorn costume and not an armor skin, so it is not usable in combat.”
Thanks for the info and clarification. It is a nice town clothes set.
I have to agree with many when I say I would much rather have this as armor rather than town clothes.
Related in a way: A suggestion
We really need some sort of town clothes system for storage. I have more than 8 toons and all are nearly wearing some sort of set. This one here will give them all at least 1 set. I am not keen on using my bank to store more of these.
Looks like my Necro will still being wearing the same armor he has been for over a year.

It need not be 6 visible pieces. There can be overlap and pieces that take multiple visual slots.
CoF medium armor is a good example, The coat actually occupies the coat and shoulder slots. The shoulders work as a standalone when used with other sets. The engine is specifically designed (as per a pretty enlightening blog post before release) to accomodate for overlap and piees taking multiple visual slots/overlapping existing pieces so that you don’t have to define arbitrary seam lines. and can tailor the slot occupancy of each piece of armor the better fit the geometry of the piece.
The costume slots option used in GW1 (as well as the festival hat maker dedicated “bank” were QoL features they added later specifically to combat how useless these items were/how much bank space they took up/how much of a pain it was to get festival hats for multiple characters) As a result they sold more costumes and people stopped complaining about festival hats taking up space. I don’t see why they went with the new system at all outside from the binary nature of switching to toys. Even then, you could use the same inventory panes and just have display checkboxes for the costume slots /shrug

I think there is an issue or immersion here. Costumes are not armour class specific and so you can have a warrior running around in a silly looking costume. In GW1 costumes were added late in the game’s life and the rules of what was immersion breaking vs what would increase revenue from the game were relaxed. It didn’t matter as much that female warriors could be on the front lines in Gwen’s wedding outfit or the Dwayna costume.
In GW2 I guess we are still in a situation where the immersion of the game outweighs the ability to wear novelty costumes in combat.
Still, I find it confusing this particular item is a costume and not a light armour. There is nothing about this that looks like it shouldn’t be armour for a light class.

This! These are the reasons why I bought every single costume in GW1. GW1 costumes were great, they let you really diversify your style and were so easy to use.
I am very sad that this wonderful outfit is just a cosmetic item that I won’t be able to equip most of the time anyways.

Question: last year we had the witch costume for female characters and the mad king one for males- does this mean we get a mystery costume for females?
I love my witch costume from last year and I still wear it on my first character

I’d prefer wearing whatever I wanted, personally. Like DCUO for example. I was happy when they added Radiant armor because I thought my thief could finally escape medium armor and wear the armor of spoiled warriors, but they didn’t add the rest of the set.
Medium armor doesn’t look very protective anyways, I don’t think I really need it. I’d be more mobile in town clothes and still be the same amount of squishyness. Plus I’d be able to blend in better in crowds and steal things easier. I see no break in immersion here. XD
PS: I’d also have no trench coat to trip over accidentally or get snagged on bushes when I’m trying to run.

I have a serious question.
Why is all the cool looking armor they release for town clothing only and why are they releasing skins like ascended armor that we can actually use in combat, look like absolute crap? … ???
I’m just saying this seems to be a trend they are following lately and its highly annoying.
That really does look like armour much more than a costume.

Both the Mad King Thorn costume and the Witch costume were available for both male and female characters.
So, considering there was two costumes last year there might be another – but not because of them being gender exclusive.
I wanna know why we can’t have the appearance of our town clothing in combat and mix it with some armor. My Charr Warrior needs to charge into battle with Volcanus and the Juggernaut and have the option between a Pink Quaggan hood and Panda hood to strike fear into his enemies because giant weapons don’t cut it anymore
…Yawn…
A summary of the game at this moment. ^^

Does anyone know ? :p
So sad this is a costume. The game is sorely lacking in armor skin variety it gets aesthetically dull seeing the same stuff over and over again.
I don’t usually spend real money on town clothes as I just don’t spend enough time wearing them (if at all).
Armours are a different cup of tea.
