His mechanic is very simple, when you see the pools of candy, stand in them to get candy coated, his projectiles won’t affect you if you are.

Stand in the pool of candy, let it get to 8-9 stacks (at 10 it’ll knock you down), and then watch as everyone else is downed and knocked about.

With the above and moving out of the red circles, you should take minimal damage during the fight.

Also noticed tonight that while candy coated you do normal damage to him (without it you do significantly less).

He doesn’t take nearly as long if enough people are getting coated since they’re doing more damage and there are less people to revive.

It’s not the red circles, it’s the pink candy on the floor he puts down just before using the candy corn throw. That gives you the candy coating. The red circles will hurt you.

Yeah, it doesn’t hurt to read the cute-sy icons you get from time to time (the candy corn ones, those are the buffs the OP is talkin about). And the candy pools are still easy to see even with a massive amount of particle effects and zerg going on.

Now, can someone please tell me Lich’s mechanics? How do we stop him from Life Stealing and regaining a huge percentage of his 100Billion HP??

Actually if you want to read between the lines, several times they’ve posted about making WvW more diverse instead of just all zerg all the time.

Anet didn’t “encourage” that in this update. They can’t tell the players how to play or you’d whine about them doing that.

No ones forcing the monkey’s to zerg. They do that on their own. Follow OPs advice and then attack from range.

Bam, you’re as effective as melee and safer.

When they tell you to stack, say no. Say little else after that if anything at all. Or else give them the line you’d give Anet here: Quit telling me how to play!

The mechanics in the game get lost on a lot of people, but then not everyone ‘gets’ mechanics. I’ve sat there in chat and tried to explain to people how it works but still people won’t listen..

Best thing to do is just to tell everyone to stack on viscount or they will get killed by missiles. People listen to that (after being downed once) and the pink goo will spawn underneath him so at least damage is somewhat o.k. although everyone will get knocked back when it hits 10 stacks.

You just have to assume that people will never get mechanics because its a diverse crowd.

That all said, if you know the mechanics then you as an individual are pretty much safe and the ones that don’t listen, at least they are being somewhat effective rather than being downed.

No I mean when trying to fight things I have 2 dodges and 2 stunbreaks, once 2 or 3 guys get on you with cc’s it gets really amazingly annoying. Also that trying to fight things solo in there is completely pointless and not worthwhile in any way, and running with the zerg is only slightly better.

Hit him from range. He lifesteals within melee range.

Had that backwards, apparently. My bad! Sorry. Looks like if you’re in mid-range from him, he lifesteals so stacking on him is the way to go.

Doing that actually avoids damage from the missiles? Huh. That’s…

I mean, its nice that there is a mechanic to avoid it, since dodging it is somewhat unreliable especially in the zerg where its hard to see it coming. But it seems completely counter-intuitive. You have to let yourself get hit by something most players would assume is harmful (most times stuff on ground = bad, get away) and indeed even the game itself implies is harmful given the fact that 10 stacks = knockdown, in order to avoid death by missile.

Also… the candy pools don’t seem to appear all the time. I’ve had whole battles go by without actually noticing them at all (unless they were all centered on the boss himself while I was ranging him, and all the particle effects from the zerg would make it hard to see). Do projectile reflects stop them too?

I have to disagree with the “stand in melee” strategy, as all of the times I’ve killed the Viscount, the vast majority of the people I see dead were in melee range.

His AoEs DO hit within melee range, and when the majority of the zerg is stacked on top of him, I’ve seen his candy corn barrage stack all 20-ish red circles in one spot and insta-down the entire mob of people.

While I agree that the candy buff mechanic is not intuitive at all, it is definitely the better way to go than standing in melee range.

the hammer in the cliffside fractal also gives a buff that downs you after 40 stacks yet is needed to complete the stage, what’s your point?
also the pools only appear when he starts firing his projectiles.

I’m sorry, did you just make as if going to a waypoint and running back is not an option? Are you one of those people who dies at an event, and stays there on the ground, expecting to be res’d? If so you scale up the event without contributing anything, and you make it harder on everyone else. Waypoint and run back. Not just here, but in all events, ever.

This is my biggest problem I have with large scale events in general: lazy dead players. They refuse to re-spawn at waypoint because they are lazy. (please don’t ever tell me its because of the waypoint fee of 1.3 silver, that doesn’t even make a dent in your wallet) Great example of this is Tequatl the Sunless 2.0. In all boss encounters, the stuff they put on the ground is bad. That’s how we’ve been taught since day one. Red circle or not, its rather silly to expect players to think to stand INSIDE one of the boss’ ground effects. And I’m pretty sure I have more than half a brain.
