Well that was random :p
I like rouges. They stab from behind.
I just think if someone is rooting for #TeamKiel, they should at least take the time and spell the name right. :p

It burns in the eyes.
I vote Logan Thackeray.
Well that made me think of an episode of QI.

Well that made me think of an episode of QI.
If it was an epidose of QI, I’d tell you that in German, Kiel (pronounced “keel”) is a city by the sea, and Keil (pronounced “kyle”) means “wedge”.
It is thus very easy for Germans to get the ie/ei thing right.
Look, sometimes some people want to take thier theif and go talk to Keil without being hassled about how there spelling things.

Except when sounding as “A” in neighbor or weigh… or dozens of other exceptions to the ‘rule’ that in fact, outnumber the ones that actually follow it, making this a completely useless mnemonic.

It’s a reasonably good rule of thumb to get started.
The OP is right though. Way too many people in this game spell it “Theif” and it drives me nuts.
Kind of like how everyone says Kohler for the AC boss instead of Kholer…. That one annoys me to no end :P
Try correcting people that keep saying Jormag is up, while it’s supossed to be claw….

Double ‘P’, single ‘S’.
:P
I grow even more disappointed each day from how frequently I see character names spelled incorrectly. I would think that someone would not mind the few seconds it would take to verify the correct spelling of a word before permanently using it in the naming of a character. Instead, there are far too many who cannot be bothered with this slight effort and they end up with an incorrectly spelled word permanently in their character’s name. Well, perhaps not permanent any longer due to the release of the Name Change Contract on March 26th, if they can be bothered to purchase it and use it and then manage to spell it correctly the second time.

My sisters friend (when they were younger) made an email intended to be something like SweetAngel@whatever.com. Instead, she made it SweetAngle@whatever.com. It gave us a few good laughs

I’ve seen many an “Angle” in this game. :\
Also, PixelPumpkin, I see now what led you to start this thread. Reading this other thread and seeing how frequently Kiel is spelled incorrectly is starting to irk me something fierce!
(I almost put ‘feirce’ on purpose, but couldn’t bring myself to do it).

Too late for that, claw has already adopted the name of jormag, the community is already used to it. Plus saying jormag is up somehow sounds better than saying claw up :S
Hearing it referred to as “The Claw” (The Claw of Jormag) makes me think of nothing but Cary Elwes and Jim Carrey doing “The Claw” in the movie “Liar, Liar”.
Well, yeah, I realise that it doesn’t matter really in the grand scheme of the universe and things, but when I write somebody a greeting card, or an email, or post about someone, I make sure I get their name right. That is how I show my respect. Yes, I apply this to fictional characters, too. Don’t know why this is so important to me.
overthrow both of them let the grawl have a counsel spot they are still waiting in la for something since getting kicked out of the homeland,,, and everyone here complains there isnt anything permanent in these patches. well the grawl are looking permanent
@Pixelpumpkin: Proper names don’t have to follow grammatical rules, and you especially can’t apply the rules of English, such as they are, to a name that may or may not be of english derivation. But I definitely understand your overall chagrin.
Vote for Kale!!!

Having “their” and “thief” in the same sentence drives me even crazier.
Whoever come up with these spelling rules ought to retire…seriously.

I think they are long dead. Those rules were made up way before our time.
oranges poranges
doesn’t bother me in the slightest. but I have the name ‘Karin’. It is not remotely uncommon when I email someone that doesn’t know me personally and I sign the email ‘Karin’ that I get a response that says ‘Hello Karen’. It honestly happens more often than the name begin spelled correctly. And in theory they had just read it so you’d think they’d remember the spelling for those 30 seconds.
Many people can type pretty fast and are only thinking of the words not the spelling and are relying on muscle memory to a degree as they type things out. Not everyone meticulously spell checks before they hit the send button. Misspelling proper names is going to happen a lot especially if it’s a name they aren’t very familiar with.
When I see the ‘Hello Karen’ I just chuckle a bit and move on.
Boy that’s weird. Kiel or Keil, either way I’m sure they weighed their options before deciding.

Heh ya, sometimes it can be weird. Though, with that example you can actually hear the differences. Their with an eh sound and Thief with an ee sound. What I hate is when the sounds are the same but the spelling is different or vice versa. An example is shoe and toe, one is an ew sound and one is an oh sound. Annnyway, English sucks.
Incorrect grammar grinds my gears too, but harassing and correcting others who aren’t asking for it is, in my opinion, worse. It’s a game, and people are here to have fun.
When I see stuff like this in chat it drives me up the wall:
Player 1: Anyone want to run Citadle of Flame later?
Player 2: Citadel*
Player 1: Oh sorry lol
Player 3: Sure, I’ll come along. So long as you don’t mind a Condition Warrior xD;
Player 1: Lol, it’s cool, I don’t mind. Anyone else wanna come along? LF2M , that efigy is so annoying!
Player 2: Effigy* And I guess so, I’m not doing anything.
No one wants to be corrected, especially not while relaxing and playing a game. No one even gains anything from the correction. It’s just annoying. Player 1 isn’t going to be eternally grateful because he now knows how to spell ‘effigy.’ Hell, it was probably just a typo from typing too quickly. It just makes Player 2 sound annoying and snooty.
Now the idiots who type in a way that isn’t coherent, that’s something else entirely. An example being, “lol yu gusy wnna run codf later im doin path1 probly a few tiems.” I would have to read that probably a few times just to get the general idea of what the person even wants, and someone needs to say something. He’s not going to get a party if no one knows that he’s looking for one, lol. Or where he wants to go.
TL;DR – I think people tend to be too harsh on typos. It’s not a big deal. If you can understand what’s being said easily, leave it be.
InB4 – "The biggest crime committed in that scenario is “Condition Warrior.”
^ Shoulda taken a rouge.
Don’t forget the Gaurdians!

It doesn’t matter how you spell her name because in the end she’s just meat for Evon.

sceince. I fixed it for you.

That rule is so not applicable for proper nouns (which Kiel is.)
It’s an English language rule, however proper nouns are very often loan words.
In this case, Kiel is likely the German version of the nautical term “keel”. There is a German word Keil, however, which is the German word for wedge.

But it does apply for this one instance and will allow people to remember how to spell her name.
I agree that the actual ruling of it is wrong, but for the masses that spell her name wrong, well… I don’t think they know or care about the difference. Just saying.

That is quite possibly true in this example; however, I like it will people call out my mistakes. I am forever learning and know that I am not perfect, and corrections help me learn.
That said, those seem like obvious typos and not spelling mistakes.

I am not sure how your question applies to anything. To answer it, yes I went to school and post-secondary.

I guess Einstein got it wrong twice!
I’m still wondering why people don’t refer to her by first name, Ellen.

Only if Einstein was pronounced Eeensteen instead of Ine-shtine.
You know what? Let’s just make up our own bloody alphabet, with designated letters for hard and soft pronunciations of consonants, and separate ones for these dipthong bullkittens, and proceed to just spell things how they sound. If enough of us do it, it might not look stupid.

You have my full support.
That could actually be my favourite project since my sister came up with readable capital numerals so you can shout numbers at people.
Shouting numbers at people? I would think “TWO!” would suffice, but I guess I was wrong?
That get’s really tiresome if you’re shouting large numbers, phone numbers, post codes…
It’s I before e except after c, and when sounding like A as in neighbor or weigh and on weekends and holidays and all throughout may and you’ll always be wrong no matter WHAT YOU SAY!!!
