Hey there guys,

I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to playing the trading post and looking at investments, however I was just wondering what your opinions on the flame and frost dyes are, and whether or not you think it might be worth investing in some of these dyes (namely glacial sky) over a short-term period(a few months), as I know, in the long term they will most defiantly be released again.

To me, the prices look fairly stable at what they currently are, but I really don’t have any idea what could happen to them in the future and any help would be appreciated =p

I think, for short term they are not worth investing. It’s high risk with uncertain reward…

Nope. I bought about 10 of one particular flame and frost dye when their supply numbers were dropping low and were bound to go higher. I bought them all for 42g each. Then it was announced there’d be a 3 day sale. Needless to say they all dropped to 10g.

Is it worth investing in them? Nope. Btw – beware of ‘limited time’ sales. That’s what caused me to lose hundreds of gold on these F & F dyes, all because they decided to bring them back a couple months later, and will most likely do again in a couple months. Not investment worthy.

Wait for them to come out on limited time sale again. Buy them then and wait a couple of months for best results. Just don’t hold onto them forever… they’ll be back.

Absolutely, as long as you are not greedy.

Last time I was greedy, and got burned by my collection dropping 700g overnight.

I don’t recommend that new speculators invest in high-priced items:

• You are putting all your eggs in one basket, always riskier than diversifying.
• To make the risk worthwhile, the price has to increase by a lot of gold.
• High-value items sell much more slowly than lower-priced ones, providing ample time for your offer to be undercut by pennies.

Less riskier alternatives are guessing which will be the most coveted items in the future, notably:

• Ascended Zealot recipes — if they are like Celestial recipes, they won’t be obtainable after Scarlet’s story ends and prices will spike.
• Similarly, Lovestruck skins cost one BL Ticket now, but will cost more in the future, so the prices will certainly go up. Based on other such skins, you can expect the increase to be substantial, although some skins will increase by a lot more than others (and be careful of competing with too many other speculators).
• Watchwork Sprockets drop like flies now, but will that be true when Scarlet’s story ends?
• If you want to stick with dyes, you can see the trends on Spidy: most masterwork/uncommon dyes will be available to purchase at 6-7s for short periods at some point and nearly all of them will be selling for 14-18s, again for short periods. Guess wrong, and you’re only out a silver or two per dye. Guess right and you can make 100% return on your investment.

Some of the cash shop dyes are cheap.

11 different versions of cash shop dyes can be had for less than 20 gold right now. Some are even good looking. These prices are far below the cost to buy the gem packs and hope for a unique dye.

In theory they ought to sell for more gold.

I think the problem is: when anet rereleased the dyes twice in the last 4 months they killed the speculator market by destroying perceived rarity. The dyes were always super-expensive gem wize, and it seems anet isn’t going to let you get rich by giving anet money. Eventually, Somebody will probably make money on the Onset, Amenity, Violite, and Fling dyes out there, because they are priced cheap jow and gems keep getting more expensive, but…

I’d personally advise all but the upper rich to avoid investing in gemstore items. Y2 Halloween weapons haven’t budged in price. Dyes have fallen, the newer dyes from the newer dye packs are far cheaper than gems. Minipet collectors got screwed by mini holographic knights and mini Caithes. Anet is bound to hold sales on various items to increase gemstore revenue. Why put yourself in competition with ANET’s gemstore if you don’t have to?

The time to invest in the flame and frost dyes was during the three day sale, right now it would be a terrible idea.

no the flame and frost dyes ( and all rare dyes from those scam boxes) are now WORTHLESS consume confidence in them is DESTROYED because of anet randomly selling flame and frost dyes on that weekend sale , the prices will never again rise do not bother just buy rare skins instead

Keep in mind that Season 1 of the Living Story is ending soon. So it is quite possible (maybe even likely?) that we will see most if not all of the LS-store items coming back for a short while.

The Flame and Frosts sets were released a year ago, not a month.
But I assume you talk about the other dye sets?

Why not?
If some people could decide they would have them in there at all time.
It isn’t really dumb at all. They don’t gain more money from waiting a year between selling them.

He is saying it would be a dumb idea to release them one month after the last time they released them, which would be right about the end of the LS arc.

When the dye packs got re-released I bought one, got Glacial Sky. Price dropped to about 20g. I kept it.

Sold it when it reached 100g. Now it’s more, lol..

Wait till they get re-released definitely. They are at pretty much the peak price now.
