Unfortunately, trading posts and auction houses are doomed to fail. If you haven’t seen WoW lately, the prices on the auction house are ridiculously high on everything. (I hadn’t played WoW in years) So I created a character, then went to buy something on the auction house, expecting it to be 4 silver like it was years ago. 75 gold. For a pair of crappy level 7 pants. You’d have to level to max level and then farm for days to get that.

Auction Houses and other player-run things need to die off. They eventually will anyway.

Cost of running GW1 is a lot less than running GW2, that and they did sell skins in GW1.

Either way, removing the TP wouldn’t do much good. I’d like some loot drops to occur more frequently (Like, T6 materials, or charged lodestones… but that’s my impatience talking), but removing the TP would… suck. It’s a good way to make money while playing the game, and not having to stop and advertise for hours on end instead of playing the actual game. I can also easily search for what I need/want and buy it directly from there, without having to find a player who happens to have what I want in the amount I want it in, then spend the next fifteen minutes figuring out a price.

It’s a convenience that lets me continue to play the game and earn some money, or quickly get materials I need (at a cost). I don’t want to sit in Gendarren Fields spamming chat for over an hour in hopes to sell as 250 stack of ancient wood. Or a random exotic.

Maybe keep the TP and put is the actual ability to trade between players? FOr those who want the convenience of the TP it is there, and for those who want to try and make a bit more, avoiding the fees, and those who want to try and save a bit, by the trader avoiding the fees, the option is there. Just a thought and I realize it will not happen as the TP fees are a gold sink.

it would be nice if players could setup their own temporary store with items they wanted to sell, these items wouldn’t carry the listing fee of the TP, sellers could undercut the TP and make it worthwhile for buyers to bargain hunt… i suppose it would be a administrative nightmare going through each individual players items on sale, maybe they could make it each guild can register an “outlet shop” which then members can advertise items that wouldn’t incur the listing fee of the TP…(think ESO did something like this)
it would just open up that possibility of finding a great deal if you looked in the right place at the right time, which is a cool part of mmo’s

Well think about it a a bit more…

MOST of the loot you get, as of right now, is salvage/vender garbage. You get all your crafting mats from just salvaging the greens/blues that no one uses or buy, then sell off your junk to venders. So all the loot right now is boring. Most people only get 1 exotic maybe once a day.

By removing the player driven economy, you can then increase loot drops in the game. Therefore you earn your t6 mats quicker, you get more exotics to get more ecto/matter/sigils through salvaging.

I’m pretty tired of this game being driven by gold. All the items are bought with gold, nothing is earned and its not a better game for it.

If this game was about cosmetic progression instead of vertical progression, there needs to be more ways to earn skins… not just farm for several hours for gold and then just buy it out. This is part of the reason why SAB TM weapons have higher value to them because they are inaccessible via gold, they are earned.

Sticking with the TP system means sticking with boring loot. It’s time to shift up to a loot version 2.0 like D3.

Playing the TP IS playing the game for some people. I agree that glancing on the TP to see how much my pre-cursor is running these days is disheartening, and that it seems you really have to work at it to make gold in the game, but eliminating the TP isn’t the answer. As much as I hate it, the things that are really special do take a lot of work to get. Making it easy makes the thing less special. I wouldn’t be going for a Legendary if everyone and their brother was bouncing around with one. It’s still pretty awesome to see one and say, “Hey, that guy’s got a Legendary! Cool!” And someday, That Guy will be me…

I see many cons to it too.

- When I am crafting I notice I need 1 more crafting mat, without the TP I have to go out and Farm some enemies until I find what I need.

- I have level 9 chars to level 80 and as I level I bought green and blue Armor at TP, whitout the TP I would have to Iether farm to get crafting mats or I would have to hope I get the right gear I want for my build.

- A few has said that GW1 works fine without TP. Well the constatly spaming of WTS/WTB in map chat (Even though there is a trading channel) is working realy good. And also imo the loot drops in GW1 was/is far from intresting and easy to get max tier mats.

- With the RNG in this game, I totaly loathe Scarlets Kiss but I think Scarlets Rainbow is awesome, now I can easely sell Scarlets Kiss and Buy me a Rainbow. Without TP I would have to live with the fact I was “lucky” and got Scarlets Kiss instead of Scarlets Rainbow. If we ware not able to trade them but if we where able to then se above reason.

Trade Post is being manipulated by Guilds dedicated to such, investing dozens of thousands of gold on the TP, specially around precursors.

One day their price is 500 gold, the other all stock is gone and they are all being sold for 900g.

So yes, we need limitations on TP for help loot to value more, and stop economy values manipulators.

If you dont want to use the tradepost to purchase what you are unable to hunt, loot, or craft yourself, then by all means dont use the tradepost. Your self-imposed restriction is not shared by anyone else. The BLTC is simply an impersonal “player” store for people to list their goods. In fact, I wish we’d be able to set and track “watchers” for certain items much like we can track achievements. If item xyz drops below/goes above abc gold, it lets me know that and then I can decide whether or not to buy or sell.

And there’s plenty of ways to increase the loot you get as it stands now. You’ve heard of and used +magic find stuff, right? There’s a lot of ways to increase it permanently and temporarily, and many people have noticed better drops with it.

Oh, and here’s the best reason to leave the tradepost alone:I can be out getting the loot I really want while selling trash to some random player who thinks it’s treasure. I’m no longer required to spam every city 8927456928175 times an hour just to make my sale seen, or log off my character because she needs to “man the booth” in the same cities and hope somone actually looks at my “store.”

Removing the TP sounds like a horrible idea to me.

What the game could use, however, is a less RNG based / gold centric economy.
If drops were A LOT more fixed, the most popular farm spots would only supply some materials, flooding the market and making the prices go down (or other material prices go up). This would create a much more player driven economy, where prices settle on a supply/demand basis.
Since there are taxes tied to the TP, it would always be more cost effective to work towards the specific materials you’re looking for. Players, however, could be OK with smaller earnings and use the TP based on how fun they find the activity to get the desired materials.

Since supply is extremely RNG based, currently prices are almost only about demand and the economy is not player driven at all. No matter what a player is looking for, the method that produce the higher amount of overall wealth will always be the best.

I played Guild Wars 1 for 4 years and I can say not having a TP was a major pain.

I still have storage packed full of green (highest quality) gear I never sold because the main way to sell was to stand in Kamadon and repeatedly spam WTS X item for Y plat. Over and over and over again. And then the possible buyer had to be in the exact same map you were at the exact same time and had to be paying attention to trade chat at the same time.

Yes you could earn your goods by playing. But selling the excess or the unneeded was difficult. There were undoubtably buyers for my Totem axe or my Mallyx bow but I never found them and my desire to stand in one spot spamming WTS was not great. Plus trying to figure out the current sale prices, bleh.

Spamming messages in Spamadon, a pain. Putting items in the trading post and walking away, Priceless.

By the way, Guild Wars 1 has their version of the gem store. You could buy exclusive ingame content that people who didn’t buy couldn’t play, access to skills without playing the game and Mercenaries so you could play without grouping up with other players.

I like the shop system, it does breed the problems stated about spamming and problems getting through some areas. A ‘market-instance’ would be cool though. Nothing there except a bank, a TP and space to set up shop, so the only reason people would go there would be to buy/sell and not interrupt the flow of the cities and other maps.
