I give your charr’s name an 8/10 because the name Tarr seems strange but Geargrind is a brillant name. Anyway my charr is Tazloc Sorrowshot he is a charr ranger and the name might not be very “charry” but it was the name of my old WoW toon which was a troll hunter.

Thanks! Tarr is a reference to tar, but also Charr in general have very guttural names! Good to see I got rated so high anyway^^

MadDemon – 7/10. I like the last name, but something about names with ‘oth’ in them I’ve never liked for some reason.

Mine is Hiafax Tyrant – Charr Blood Legion Warrior.

Eh, I’ll give it a 5. Its an alright name on its own, sounds alright, but its not very Charr-like. First name fits well enough though I can’t really put my finger on how to pronounce it. The last, though… Charr last names are 2-word combinations, one for the warband and one usually a description of the individual in some way, so that last name doesn’t fit at all. If it were a title (EG Hiafax the Tyrant) then it would fit, but as it is not so much.

I’ll help you with pronouncing it: Guh-air-ah-th (say it quickly though).
And I thought that is what I did for the last name, combine his warband name (bane) with something that describes him (Blades, because when he was young he always called the Blood Legion the Blades Legion, or because he likes to weild a greatsword and summon a spirit greatsword, take your pick). I honestly was initially considering naming him Frogsbane; keep the bane warband name, but the frogs part would come from him taking a liking to hunting frogs when he was young

Brutalustaka: It feels to long for a name. Usually a Charr’s name is two-three syllabus, and the way I read this I get 5. Maybe tone it down to “Brutala” (Brute-al-ah) with a “the [Blank]”. But as it stands 3/10

Azura Coldpaw – I like the first name but not so much the 2nd. A guardian isn’t really cold-related unless you mean the armor, in which case something more metallic would fit better. Even if it’s for her fur, white fur doesn’t necessarily mean “cold”. Meh, I’m being nit-picky. 6/10

Pyra Firapaw – Nearly perfect. First name is fine, but the “Fira” part is killing it. “Flamepaw” or “Hotpaw” or anything would have been better then Fira. 9/10

Lavenda Rosepaw – Bad first name, okay last name. 5/10. I can see what you were going with, the whole “flower” theme, but Lavenda doesn’t cut it (I honestly read it as “Lavender” at first). It just doesn’t feel organic at all. Rosepaw is fine though since, as I said, it’s clear you’re going for the rose theme.

Well I didn’t think of a last name for Brutalustaka because that name originated from my WoW warrior character since warriors are brutal in combat and they lust for fights.

For Azura Coldpaw I know the white fur part doesn’t have anything related to cold, but the white fur does give an arctic theme which is why I named her last name Coldpaw.

Pyra Firapaw I thought was pretty unique because the Fira name is based off of a Final Fantasy spell so some may recognize where I got the Fira phrase from. Hotpaw or Flamepaw seemed to common so I went for something different.

Lavenda Rosepaw however I didn’t have any intention of making her a flower theme at all. I just wanted to give a her nice sweet name with the colors I chose for her so it may appear she’s a sweet person, but it is exactly the opposite because she’s aggressive.

What about my charr’s name? I need your opinions here!

I would give it a 8/10 if you was with the Iron legion to fit your last name, but It’s 7/10.

Irontail works great for a charr but giving a Roman Goddess name to a race with no gods seems off.

7/10 I like it. Good strong first name, but lacks a ’band name…

My Female Blood Legion Warrior is named Yarza Steelfang.

I was bummed when I couldn’t get an epic rack of horns like male Charr, so I decide that she would have good fangs, but a complex about her smaller-than-average-even-for-a-female horns. And, or course, Reeva would tease her about it.

9/10 very traditional sounding name. though it feels a little unimaginative, no offense meant.

Akbaroth Stormsoul, Iron Legion. I made up the name Akbaroth as a username when I was around 8 and have been using it ever since. I felt it didn’t clash TOO badly with normal charr names, even if it’s not 100%. He and his warband separated a few years back, so he doesn’t use his surname (bandname?) often (long story, nothing bad). ‘Storm’ comes from his prodigious skill with elemental magics, especially wind/lightning based spells. The Soul warband gave themselves that name because ‘it sounded cool when we were young.’

He is full of logic, reason, and [seemingly] dead emotions.

9/10. I still use character names I came up with as a little kid too! And you’re right—although it sounds a bit complex for the typical charr, it sounds powerful enough to be fitting. His surname, Stormsoul, is well-thought-out and fitting to the character.

I recently created a female elementalist named Albane Memorykeeper.

Albane was born to a loyal father, and a gladium mother. She grew up with her strange mother, they wandered the Ascalonian plains alone. Eventually, her father tracked them down and insisted his cub go to the fahrar. Albane went, but she retained her mother’s strange teachings—she is spiritual in a way unheard of among charr. Although odd, she was clever enough to gain status and become a legionnaire.

Albane chose to call her warband the “Memory” warband. As she described it to them: “We will remember all we have been taught, and be great soldiers. We will remember every slight, and avenge ourselves accordingly. We will remember our pride, and never stop fighting for progression”
But, in her own private thoughts, she also “remembers” times of old, before Flame Legion’s rule, when it was not shameful for the charr to have spiritual reverence. She follows these ancient ways in secret, through study and silent practice.

I’d give it a 9.5 outta 10, Weindrasi. Good little story there too.

I have a Charr Warrior with the name Glork Snowlicker, which apparently fooled a couple of people, they thought I was an NPC, heh…

No big story on his last name. When younger, and out on a training mission with his fahrar, he was thirsty, and randomly decided to lick up some snow to clench his thirst. He was picked on for a while because of this, and given Snowlicker as a nickname. As he got older, he took it as a thing of pride.

Um, ok, 6/10.
Glork just doesn’t sound like a Charr name. It sounds like an Ogre or Ettin name. Snowlicker follows the standard conventions of a Charr name, but it just sounds plain weird.

So, I just came up with another name. I did not make this character yet, but I suddenly came up with this name.

Imagine, if you will a Charr engineer who is a member of the Iron Legion named: Dr. Charrsano. Why that name? Because science.

P.S. If anyone gets the reference, I applaud you.

Feralthyrtiaq- The runt of the last litter to be sired by Thyrtiaq. Where he lacked strength and fortitude he made up with shear ferocity fighting his newborn litter-mates for food.

He took easily to studies of the elements becoming a volcanic earthquake of whirlwind on the battle field and rising to lead his warband.

6.5/10 Charryl sounds a bit to close to charr and Dinkleberry sounds like something that is more fitted for an Sylvari.

Livia Bloodletter, female warrior of the Blood legion.

Livia seems a bit too Sylvari, but hey, Amorra Soulkeeper is a lore character, so I suppose more “soft” sounding names can be used for Charr females too. 8/10!

Akiyan Skyhowl. Female warrior of the Blood Legion, grew up on the battlefields of the Ascalonian reconquest, maybe even born there. The story goes that her mother refused to put down her arms until labor pains slowed her down enough for her warband to cart her to a healer. (Though how much of this is truth and how much is proud aggrandizement is hard to tell, stories conflict) Her last name comes from her first clear memory of the sky howling with the canon fire from Charr warmachines.

Randall Trickpaw of Ash Legion

My Charr mesmer that always does his best to keep up the spirits of his warband and friends with occasional good and bad jokes (Its rumered that Randall and Reeva combined managed to force an entrenched foe to surrender after the pair began a pun war that almost resulted in expultion from their warband), his name coming mostly from his random nature on the battlefield where he uses illusions and other mesmer tricks to keep the enemy confused and second guessing their and his every move, always having some trick up his sleeve to deal with every challange he faces, often smiling in the face of danger as he tries to keep the enemy constantly off balance.

Randall Trickpaw of Ash Legion – Your first name is a little too human, but I love Trickpaw, especially because of your class and legion so I give you a 7.

Sonja Bronzeclaw of Iron Legion… She’s my Engineer and loves using turrets.

Originally not named due to his betrayal of the Flame Legion, it was the Backspurr warband, part of the Iron Legion, that took him in; in honor of that friendship he is just known as “Backspurr.”

Blood legion warrior, known for his big horns and unstoppable charge. Hammer warband.

Got 2 more:
Naradak Blightmaw, Ash necromancer of the Blight warband, wears the skull mask all the time (which kinda makes his teeth/maw look all septic and deadly – plus, I figure necromancers might chant or whisper their spells, so the blight literally comes from his maw).

Kala Grimwhistle, Iron legion marksman (ranger) of the Grim warband (cause once they arrive, things look real grim for the enemy) – her whistle signals a deadly, precise and calculated strike.

10/10 for Rhak Hammerhorn. Hammerhorn sounds really cool and rolls off the tongue well.
My Charr is a hipster Charr, so take that into consideration when rating his name. His name is Gladium Naju. He never enjoyed the war life and defected from his warband when he saw a chance for escape. He escaped to Lion’s Arch and changed his name. He now works for the Black Lion Trading Company as an airship pilot.

According to lore and naming guidelines I’ve read, the common warband name used in surnames can be the first or second part of the surname. And as for titles, the characters you create have a history as you begin playing them when they appear to be well beyond their adolescent years so according to your background, they could very well have earned a nickname in the 20-30+ years before we players pick them up.

Viktor Rageclaw – 6/10 Viktor makes me think of a really big Norn warrior. Or even maybe a shady human thief or necro.

Kalim Steelhorn – 9/10 I do like this both in first and surname. Sounds very much like someone I’d like one of my charr to meet.

Flik Blazefang – 8/10 First name is nice and sharp consonant starting, like most female charr. The surname is perfect for an elementalist, as well.

As for my characters:

Aylanis Stoneclaw – Engineer and proud member of the Priory, Iron Legion to her grave. Practical, a bit of a rogue, some would say undisciplined by Charr standards – she’s a charmer with an underlying unyielding spirit.

Kalith Seerbane – Warrior of the Blood Legion. Rather dignified and well mannered – for a Charr. Although he may not be as big or as gruff as other Charr grunts, he’s a fierce Legionnaire, and shouldn’t be underestimated. Got his name for having a particular distrust of magic users, after his elementalist father joined Flame.

Inara Shimmerpaw – Mesmer in Ash Legion. A relatively quiet girl who lets her deceptive illusionary magic do all the talking. Her calm demeanor masks the mind of a cunning predator, always two steps ahead – By the time her foes realize something is amiss, it’s already too late.

I created the first before experiencing much of the game, or being too familiar with Charr naming conventions and important names/warbands.

Are you saying that Ashmaw is in the, “Maw” warband then? If so, that wasn’t pointed out and my rating would drastically change if he was.

As for titles, you never put down what Kurns did to earn such a title only that he used a flamethrower. A lot of people use flamethrowers. What made your character different enough to earn a title out of it?

Were we allowed to have our names rated twice? Meh.

Aylanis Stoneclaw – 4/10 On paper it looks good, but to the mouth there are too many syllables (3. This is all counting for the first name.) which would make it harder for a raid leader to call your name out on a VoIP without a nickname. The less syllables there are in a name, the better.

Kalith Seerbane – 7/10 Is much better. Don’t know what Warband she’s in though. I doubt there’s a, “Seer” warband of the Blood Legion, so I’ll guess, “Bane”.

Inara Shimmerpaw – 4/10 Same reason as Aylanis. Too many syllables.

Charr Engi, currently Aargadon Steelclaw, plan on changing last to steelpaw for one of my paws were blown off and I had it replaced with a mechanical steel one.

Sir Meowalot – 3/10 lets be honest, sir is a human meat title and charr don’t meow, they’re way to beastly for that.

It would be good if guilds can give thier members some alias after a certain time of game playing depending on their in-game behaviour, habits or style.

Aargadon Steelclaw – 8/10, I would let the name as it is, though your rp feedback is nice, ’’paw’’ sounds to me somehow more cute and less fearsome. ;-)

Singa Sabertooth – a female warrior with both name and design inspired greatly by Smilodon, my favourite extinct great cat. She wears metal rings made from melted trinkets of fallen enemies in her mane.
