What is this scavenger hunt you’re talking about?

We don’t have any specifics yet but it was first mentioned that they are going to improve the way we get precursors. Later Lindsey mentioned (in the infamous cursed shore blog post) that she is working on a sort of scavenger hunt. But that’s pretty much all the information we have on it right now.

My guess and hope is that we’ll see it put into the game in the December update.

Well I don’t know, a scavenger hunt doesn’t really sound legendary. :/

I was expecting that you would have to fill a panel of achievements (ala GW1 and HoM tier filling) in order to get a precursor, such as maxing out every slayer title to get a greatsword precursor, or maxing out explorer to get a staff, etc (except that hopefully some of the achievements would be toned down in the insane number of things you have to do to get them).

Giant slayer would be close to impossible, there are only 2 or 3 opponents in the whole game which count towards it, and those are champion monsters which take forever to kill.

Whatever it turns out to be it will be far better than what we have now. And scavenger hunt sounds better to me than grinding out achievements which is hardly any different than what we have now.

They say scavenger hunt but what they probably really mean is that it will just be a long chain of quests. Talking to different npcs, doing certain events and dungeons, etc.

I’m sure it will turn out well.

I coule be wrong, but reading the text a bit more, you’ll get the “scavenger hunt” will involve new legendaries, and their precursor, not the actual precursors, still a gamble. Increased chances? Doesn’t seems at all. A guildy wasted 200 attempts yesterday, 1 named 0 precursors.

Until the Scavanger Hunt is up, prices will be back to where they were before “The Lost Shores”, so I guess there will be some Precursors still be popping up in the TP during the next few days and then it will be all about a rise again.

Has anyone noticed the increased drop chance in PvE? I’m doing Temple Events and Jormag on a daily basis and haven’t had more than the one per week popping up in the local channel after the event, which is basically the same rate it was before.
Those chest need a severe chance increase. Considered you did partake in “The Lost Shores” you had a 15% chance (guessed) for 3 hours of hard work through lags.

I ran 2-3 Grenth Temple Events and Jormags per day, have freed the entrace to Arah whenever possible, 5-6 days a week which is basically much more than a 100 hours event runs alone. And I had an overall chance of 0,00001% for getting one. This is not the balance I had expected.

Looking back, I really would have prefered some story or gathering or whatsoever task which had taken up 100 hours (or more) of playing time.

I just hope for one thing: ANET, don’t replace RNG with even more RNG, like “The Lost Shores” did. It’s not kind of a creative solution.

I must say, I got Dusk the other day (maybe 2 days ago or so) from a normal “chest” in orr.
I also saw another player the next day who got it by same means.

Yes, the very same chest that gives you a blue rampager’s light shoes.

I think legendaries are nice. but no other greatsword i have come across can match the Kymswarden’s sheer simple and elegant beauty. i’d have to say, i’d probably put that skin on top of a legendary unless they came out with different legendary weapons with different skins. even then, in terms of appearance, i prefer Kymswarden.

When will the next change on legendary?

I’m going for a legendary, and my game time is very reduced. I only play during week days, and occasionally on weekends as well, and no more than 3 hours/day. So this is my advice for people like me:

1- Do not ever use the mystic forge. It’s only purpose is for getting the mystic clovers. Period. Gambling here is just a waste of money, and getting money is extremely slow.
2- Sell everything profitable in the trading house, if you can get 1 more copper coin in the TH than in the normal merchant, then use the TH (pay attention to taxes!!!).
3- Do not waste materials on building an exotic armor/weapon, save them for the legendary and go with rare instead, the difference is really low, and you can still get exotic armors/weapons by grinding dungeons.
4- Always compare whats better, sell rares on the TH or get ectos from them. Assume that you will get 1 ecto from each rare and then compare the prices.
5- Sell all the exotics (there is chance that monsters or dungeon chests can drop an exotic! It’s extremely rare, but it is possible).
6- Always go for the mystic clovers first, since they drop randomly from the mystic forge, you will want to get them first so you have a clearer view of what mats you need after getting them. I’m trying to get 70 using the recipe for 10, and then 7 using the recipe for 1, but I’m finding that the recipe for 10 may have a worst drop rate based on comments found on the Wiki. So far, I tried 14 times with the recipe of 10, and only got 40 clovers (28,5% chance for the recipe of 10 as per my experience). There is a chance that you get useful mats from this recipe as well, like orichalcum, ectos or obsi.
7- Try to level up multiple characters to 80, so you can get more level 400 mats. If possible, level them up in wvwvw so you can get some badges.
8- Level up only the professions required for your legendary. Don’t waste mats/money on the others.
9- Magic Find doesn’t work, just try find out in what maps and dungeons you have a better chance of getting rares and grind them. For example I get loads of rares in Straits of Devastation, but I get nothing from Cursed Shore; the same with dungeons, I’m more lucky in Twilight Arbor and Crucible of Eternity. Fractals of the Mist is a good choice as well, except for the stupid levels that makes impossible to find a group of your same level, not to mention that the level is per character, not per account… (I’m still level 5 so my drop there is not that good).
10- Finally, remember that these are LEGENDARY, so be patient! It took me 2,5 years to get my FoW Armor in GW1, and that was way harder than getting a legendary here. I expect to get mine during next summer, based on my weekly income (around 8-10 gold/week when farming and 2-4 gold/week when playing normally or doing wvwvw… and if I’m on holidays, like this last week, ).

So there you go, my two cents… obviusly if you can play more time, these suggestions may not apply… Also, about point 9, I know that magic find do work, but the base is probably so low, that even having +400% change wouldn’t make much of a difference; the thing is just that I found that for me, it is easier to get rares depending on the map that I’m grinding events, than on my magic find increase.

Also, I try to play wvwvw whenever possible, but due to the queues and my reduced play time that’s not always possible. If you can play it, then do it, because it is a great source of karma (and obviously badges).

I dont mind the pre-cursors being rare thats fair enough but in the last few days i personally have dropped somewhere in the region of 13-1400 rares in the mystic forge and got nothing, then i see screenshots of players who used the karma bug to fill their bags with these precursors after being let of the leash as it were and cant help but feel like the general rule of thumb is if you exploit you get rich

Pardon me but, did you really mean to say One Thousand and Four Hundred rare items in the space of a few days? I… I don’t even know what to say to that? I’m sure that is a typo. Has to be!

Anyhow, unless I’m misunderstanding, a Legendary is an object with the exact same stats as an Exotic, just with a uniqe skin. So… an entertaining activity in the pursuit of it but it doesn’t offer any actual benefit to gameplay. Price gouging is fueled here solely by the singular, driven pursuit of enough players to make it beneficial to those doing the gouging.

I believe anyone screaming entitlement and throwing up their hands in blind nerd rage simply have the reality of these items WAY out of perspective. Honestly, anytime I consider pursuing a Legendary it doesn’t take long to notice the huge profit potential of just selling the mats, components, etc. and quickly just start cashing in.

I’ve heard enough horror stories from players I know about pitching high end gear into the Mystic Forge like it was basically a trash compactor that I’ve reasoned that the safest “path” to a precursor is to just sell the rares / exotics that aren’t worthless and breakdown the others for Ectos and mats (to then sell or use personally).

At the worst I’ll make a nice profit, craft any other things I may want for a minimum cost, and enjoy the same stats as anyone else with exotics and legendaries. For that trade off I run the risk of not getting a unique skin (except for all the other players with that unique skin, lol).

Just my opinion, but I think a lot of people may be thinking of “Thunderfury” or something along that line when they hear “Legendary” when really it’s just an Exotic with a cool skin and maybe some kind of whacky, off the wall proc. Hardly anything worth round the clock protests in front of A-Net HQ.

Well I personally dumped over 1000 (one thousand) rare axes and got nothing apart of many other exotics from the Mystic Forge. Legendary does offer a new skin, special weapon effects, no stat changes from exotics (but it will change because legendary will be on par with ascended weapons), medal and that’s it. However it definitely gives prestige to wearer because the effort required for getting one legendary is huge. But in general it’s mainly inner achievement for you. :-)

Today I ran into someone who had 3 legendaries, that should simply not be possible. Someone has been abusing the TP way too much. What people don’t get is, the main problem with this game is prices for items are not fixed. If I recall correctly ANet said no player’s time should be more valuable than others. With this kind of market, that is simply a big fat lie. Why am I ok with the icy runestones? Because they’re fixed. If you want everyone to pay the same effort for the same item, then they should be fixed. RNG is ruining your game ANet, yet you fail to see that.

So I’m just returning from a couple weeks away from GW2. I had to buckle down and get some serious work done of my masters thesis. I was hoping I would return to see the price of Dusk was a little more reasonable, because of the so called increase in MF drop rate. GW2spidy indicates the max buy order is 315g with a stock of 3. Did I miss something or has the cost of forging gone up so much that it effectively nullified the increased DR? Because it seems to me that the price is still pretty much the same (excluding that short lived price swing from the LS event).

Precursors’ prices fell too quickly and raised to quickly, TP is NOT viable again fyi.
MF had no effect as some people already mentioned.
Drop rates increased, but still it’s all about RNG, and RNG has NOTHING to do with “being legendary”, that sounds pretty nosense to me.

I agree that it should have to do with achievements or something of the like, achievements are awesome and all but could play a more important role.

I wished that the game would see that [Gift of The Bifrost] in my bag and be responsive to that increasing drop rates, I’m only missing the precursor and it’s by far the most frustrating thing. (PS.: I did not rush getting the legendary, I just finished the requirements in these 3 months, but it just feels as a dead-end).

I like that idea of….

Attain 1 gift – increased drop
2 gifts – more increased drop
etc etc….

but hey, how many players will just run around with like what, 10 gifts in their inventory getting more precursors!?

If your going down that path then yes the item will need to be acc bound.. but that seems to be one of the better suggestions i have seen since reading about 10 topics on this precursor business…

I really can’t wait to get into WvWvW and see 50 players running around the screen with sunrise/twilight/legendary…. oh wait the server just crashed…. ahhh welll…..

Leave it as a drop and we’re good, stop messing around with it. It was already stuffed up from when players attained them via forge from lvl 70 rare’s. you fixed that, so……………..Next!

And no……. i don’t have a precursor if you think i sound like someone who has, i’ve played my 400+ Hours and happy to spend many more hours playing this game, enjoying it so much… and yes still hunting for my precursor, let lady luck be kind and i get a drop somewhere!

Linsey,

Please just answer me this…in relation to the forge.

Do the Precursors crafted at particular in game time yield an increase chance of success?

Or just any time has the same chance and only the items placed in dictate the % chance of attaining a precursor? – think you have already hinted this in your first response/page..

If the time in game gives a % of chance increase i reckon thats unfair due to their names, dusk/dawn of course simple, however venom of rage (trident), how am i suppose to attempt that? when its high tide Or low tide!??? (bad example, but you get what i am saying, better one maybe Shortbow – the lover of rage)

PS. if you actually answer i dont see much changing game wise, all i see you giving is me and some others some more sleep instead of having to stick around for a particular server time to attempt a craft in the forge.

Thankyou in advanced,

What was supposed to reduce the price didn’t actually do anything. Instead, legendaries became even more expensive because the T6 mats are expensive as hell now.

Im sitting here with 500g, only needing Dusk and T6 mats to finish. I have already spend 100g on runestones, and even more on lodestones. One would think that I had already spent enough money on my legendary, but no.

Why do legendaries have to cost so much money? I don’t even get it.

After thinking abit about it, I spend oer 600-700hour and I still don’t have my legendary.

I’m tired of grinding and I gladly go to another game, where I atleast can have fun. I’m even doubting when they will introduce the new patch, to gain the precursor on a ‘fun’ way, I’ll be doing it.

It’s funny how Arenanet promoted their game as a ‘not grinding’ MMO, infact I never grinded so much in an MMO. This game is just not rewarding enough. It’s frustrating that nice items require always a full stack and that those materials have an extreme low droprate. Aswell most mobs that don’t drop anything when beining killed.

Grind on a longer span doesn’t make the grind less grind. It’s just a psychological way to see it like “You’re grinding, i’m not”. You are too, just slower, taking your time, but at the end, you’re not doing anything different than any other, from precursor to the final craft.
Shortly, this game is a fail , a gamble and cheat-the-system-before-nerfed based on every aspect, there are available (luckly) way more games now (mmos too) , and soon more coming, way more worthy.

Began farming Mythryl ore and Elder wood…. did about 10 or so Mystic Forge tries last night (made rank 80 rare staves via Artificer). Got 4 Exotics (1 of them being Imryldyeen), and a few rares.

I hope other lagendary skins are added eventually, or at least more recipes from heart vendors in map areas that eventually get added to PvE. I have 10 points to Hall of Momuments=flaming sword. I may spend some time in GW1… /checks other skins from Hall of Monument rewards…. nope. Maybe get certifications in Planetside2 for a few months and sporadically try MForge now and then after getting materials.

My thief has 100%map completion; Elem has 82%; Necro less. The other aspects to getting Legendary are no simple task and doing it more than once for different characters… don’t think I’ll bother. so many hours for a skin, and none of them I really like. good luck to those that go for it. I’m thinking I’ll wait and see if other methods become available and/or other areas/events are added to game months from now that make it more enjoyable to do. No hurry for me, just a skin. My Exotic weapons have the same stats as them… and I don’t need higher stats for any special content yet.

Ok so I get Dusk from Mistic Forge, by crafting 4 rare 80lvl greatswords and I still got in bank something around 50 greatswords. So is there any possibility to get DR after precursor craft? Did I should now wait to january to craft rest of greatswords to be sure there is no any DR?

PPPPFFFF…. Anet start the war against the bot and dont fix this EPIC FAIL PRECURSOR RNG!! GZ on your priority…

Why didn’t you just buy it from the tp instead of throwing away 1500g?

lol – apologies for laughing at your misfortune but didn’t they patch it so only exotics gave the chance for precursor and NOT rares?

Your saying above Rare (Gold) but Rare is Yellow Not Gold. Exotics are gold. Even Anet said that certain exotics will yield a better chance to get precursor.

Way i read the reply was. Yellows (Rare) – 0 – 2% chance, Exotics (gold, plain) 2 – 5% and exotics (gold, named) 5 – 10%

I just made up those numbers but i would be guessing from all the hints given its something along those lines – but i also could of sworn the Rare part/weaps were removed with one of the patches.

Also what lvl weaps are u putting in? remember all 4 weaps lvl must average above lvl 76 in order to even start getting a chance. at least thats what i read. So if you put in 3 lvl 72 and 1 lvl 80 it will average out to be lvl 74.

But if u put in 3 lvl 76 weaps and a lvl 80 it will average out to be lvl 77. – this i believe meets the prereq to chance for a precursor.

I could be totally wrong about all the above, but thats what i have gathered from the 3 months of research on this.

QQ so rare = yellow Exotic = gold ill keep in mind !!! i put only lvl 80 yellow crafter GS on forge, so if i put 4x Gold (exotic) named in the forge my chance to take a precursor rise to 5-10% ? can you link pls the source? Ty

precursor prices have sky rocketed again. I saw that dusk was less than 100g than twilight. i was hoping to buy “the lover” off the TP for about 166g (like last week) and just when I hit the 100g mark, the lover goes over 250g. this grind for a legendary is just depressing sometimes…

It’s just ridiculous… Dusk currently costs 535g:
http://cs410617.userapi.com/v410617093/3dc0/1U4KMmb_-lk.jpg

And still no updates from ANet. They just “working” on precursor scavenger hunt and “monitoring” the situation. I see.

I’ve done everything except Dusk for my Twilight. How many months/years should players wait till the real change in the situation?

P.S. Sure I can always buy it for GEMS. Just for ~$450, lol.
P.P.S. There are always a lot of ways to make soulbound or account bound precursors available for players for real ingame achievements. For example 250 tokens from each dungeon to craft two specific gifts, gift of <weapon type> mastery from special NPC (requires appropriate weapon master achievement) and any lvl 80 exotic <weapon type> with specific sigil. Combine it in MF and get you soulbound precursor. Problemo solved.

Just a reminder: precursor is only a part of legendary and shouldn’t be the main “pain in the *”.
