That’s the thing about RNG.. some get extremely lucky. And others put all they have into it and get nothing in return.

This has been said dozens of times in this thread again but there is no progression with RNG. The more you use it does not mean your chances go up with each use. It’s a stupid, bad, lazy, and uninspired game mechanic and no one should use it.

A post quoted a month ago 398 g…. Now, it’s 700 gold.
Every time I make 50 gold and say to myself that I am closer to buying precursor-price jumps another 100!

I will throw my 2 cents in on precursors and my saga as a broke player.

I always had trouble making money in GW2 since i play WvW almost 95% of my gaming time. I salvaged everything and sold mats to make money.

I finally made it to 20g which was a massive amount for me. Then some of my guildmates told me about throwing rares into the forge for precursors. I made 60 rare swords and decided to sink a lot of my money into it for the fun of trying out of boredom in WvW lately ( A whole different topic). At the time t5 mats were only about 1s each.

After my third toss in the forge(12x) i got zap. I totally went through the roof with excitement and ended up selling it for around 250g. So then i thought, why not go for a dusk since im a ranger. After spending 200g of what i made i was almost broke again.

Discouraged and slightly pee’d off I just crafted 60 staffs since wood is extremely cheap and mats were still low enough to afford it. I threw in 40 of those staffs and got The Legend. All of my friends said i was a lucky goat but they didn’t know i had spent everything i had gotten from zap. So now with almost 500g in pocket I went for my true goal, the Leaf of Kudzu. 480g later of rare thrown in, no kudzu and I am back to square one, 20g in the bank and no closer to anything.

I am an idiot for blowing it all and not just buying it, but that is the hook of the Mystic Toilet.

The only tip i can give anyone about my “Theory”, I got both of my precursors from the mystic forge on my borderland in WvW at garrison, and both of them were 1 week apart on thursday night when my server was winning. This is purely crap luck but an odd coincidence. Take my luck with a grain of salt and don’t blow a fortune like I did for no real outcome.

Just a quick point, atm it costs about 2 silver per T5 mat and apparently the odds of a Precursor are 0.3 on 4 rares….

So thats 35 odd silver per crafted rare, at four rares per flush with a 0.3% chance it works out at 466G average for getting a precursor.

By the way, 4 months ago, Linsey Murdock said, that they where monitoring the situation.
So I’d like to know, if they consider 600g for a precursor monitored.

I used fully MF gear and speant over 800g into the forge on Greatswords and never got a precursor. Got frustrated and rage quit for a while. Also had a friend pitch in about 350g and she never got one either. So yea.. If you wanna play the MF dont.. either wait for the magical day Anet gives another option or buy it outright.

MF gear helps zero with mystic toilet, it ONLY affects drops you get from monsters (so it wont affect chests either).

Not to blow anything up here, but back before karka event when prices were higher, they did fix the drop rate out of the end chest. I’m imagining that since no real progress has been made (according to a recent post) toward implementing an epic quest chain for a precursor, that there will be some other such event that will cause prices to bottom out again. Perhaps it might just be best to wait out the next update and see where things are then.

Just stop these TP manipulators… Let precursors drop more often from chests (let’s say for about 0.5 – 1% chance) and it will be worth it to farm dragons and chest events again.

Also change the method of getting them.. include achievement points (which shows your true dedication to the game) and it will be alot better for most of the people..

because soon precursors of ANY kind are hitting the 1000g and i remember GM’s saying they’re watching them not going that high… that was at 300g…

I don’t know whether TP manipulation really exists and by mentioning it, it always will get discussion about whether or whether not.

But your last point is absolutley true. When will the promised “monitoring” come?
The Karka event was a first try and I am thankful for that, cause it helped many people, although not me. Many were able to finish there legendarys and ended there frustration.
But there has to change something. They need to try more.
I think everyone would be calmer if we would see, that they at least try to handle the situation.

Monitoring does NOT entail controlling.

If they limit the prices, or change them, or manipulate them in any way other than the drop rate/method of obtaining, then they’re no different than “flippers”

This is a VERY unorthodox business method that you’re suggesting. Monitoring means “watching,” not intervening.

I’m sorry, but watching has no effect. Of course the karka event was part of their monitoring, otherwise the drop rate would have stayed as low as ever.
Which method did I suggest?
What I suggest is, that they want prices below 300g, because at that price they told us, that they want to do something against it.
By the way, by changing the droprate they control the prices on the market.

I’m sure this has been said before, but it seems to me the easiest way to “control” the market on legendaries/precursors is to remove them completely. Make these items Account Bound and the over-inflated prices go away…

On a side note, these weapons are supposed to be legendary, and to me at least, buying them seems like cheating. I see someone walking around with a legendary (or precursor) and my first thought is: "Did they just use real money (converted through gems) to buy that, or did they actually put in the time to aquire it, or did they aquire it through the glitch. Legendary weapons should ONLY be able to be aquired through gameplay (I realize that farming money and buying from TP could technically be considered gameplay, but it kind of cheapens the value of Legendaries to me). Just my .02, sure plenty will disagree :P

It takes ridiculous amount of time to make even a single gold in this game. How do you even get to 700?

If the price go any more expensive, the economy is going to be broken. RNG is a good mechanic… for padding game length. For actual progression? Well, have anyone ever wondered why Las Vegas is still running?

Can’t you just implement a serious, hardcore, huge boss, which naturally calls for at least 10-15 characters working together and is only available during select times with limited drop (like, say, only a few can ever drop at any given time, but at least one always drops)? And make the drops account-bound?

This proves that the only folks that should play a game are those that were very early to start and are very, very hardcore. You gotta get the only good stuff early before it’s made impossible. You gotta get all the money you can before they slow things down so you need the store, and you gotta spend lots and lots in the store right away so you can breeze through crafting and early levels. The key is to max very, very quickly after launch or don’t waste your time.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing….

Those that join late should just turn off chat so they can ignore what the heroes get and enjoy the leveling game for as long as it is reasonably fun and then move on to a new game when it gets too hard to be fun. You can usually get your money’s worth before that happens.

you should go for dusk,
in the last few days what i farmed so far
are 100 lodestones and 100 runestones, i got
gift of mastery
gift of twilight
200+ obsidian shards
200+ philosopher stones
41 mystic coin
all i need are ectos and dusk…
getting ectos is just farming but farming for almost 700g for dusk is just… crazy
if i would farm 10g each day it’ll still take me 70 days, if the price doesn’t go up again
if i really play each day and farm 10g, if i play like 1/2 of the week and getting 5 g per then… i gonna give up on this…
i don’t wanna have to farm for 1/4 of twilight the time i spent for 3/4 of twilight =((( smth really is wrong with that…
all i can do is wait for scavanger hunt or… hoping to drop in mystic forge, but i aint get lucky with that…

but i can neither say to increase chance on drop because i once got precursor “the legend” and i sold it, to my bad luck for 1/2 of price that it is now but i got materials for twilight from it and so i keep going, somehow !?

Edit:
Got 75%
Gift of Mastery
Gift of Twilight
Gift of Fortune
now im stuck at the point of getting dusk, paying over 600g is quite much but i guess there is no other way mystic forge is no option for me cause i don’t see a point there to waste gold

I agree with what others have said about MF and RNG. I fail also to see how playing with lottery odds for a goal is supposed to be fun or fair. I agree that there should be a big challenge to obtain the precursor, or some other method to obtain that shows real effort. I don’t believe a legendary item in a game should be obtained through luck or exploits, but by real skill and effort put in to obtain it. To put it how some have said, a legendary weapon should be gained from legendary effort. A lottery doesn’t cut it, and never has. Prices are outrageous, and the odds are almost zero of getting lucky. I think we need to start some kind of poll or post where people sign their names up to let developers know how bad we want another method for obtaining legendaries, one that rewards effort, not luck or exploits, for obtaining them. They said guild wars should be fun, and their paradigm was to ask themselves if they were having fun while doing it. Obviously no one took the time to try and see if players would have fun getting precursors, so we should more loudly let our voice be heard about this fundamental game aspect.

It’s sucks the more we read about precursors and how many possible exploits were used before and more have stated that these items were not destroyed. That was the beginning of the legendary not being any more then just a cool skin. yes I still want to make mine but I it has become more of a goal and something to do inside the game. The achievement of the legendary isn’t how good of a player you are its one of these 4 things.

This is just horrible math. You didn’t even took the mystic forge output into effect. Once you fail at crafting the first you only need 3 new once’s and the old one given back from the forge. Cutting down loses with 25% (- the exotics you get of course in between which you want to sell). I started working on my legendary. I think this will go quite fast although i see my chances of getting a pre-curser…..very low.

Hey, who remembers going for a black moa chick in guild wars 1? That was fun. That was an awesome scavenger hunt quest that took you through all aspects of the game and some really cool content.

The gift of mastery was like that. I’ll admit I was kind of impatient about the badges of honor because I didn’t like spending a lot of time in WvW at the time, but I still appreciate the fact that the gift of mastery did include many aspects of the game. That was a personalized tour of what the game has to offer. I REALLY like that. I feel like that experience is what the devs had in mind when they were constructing the recipes for legendaries.

The precursor thing, though… or the fact that you can just buy legendaries off the trading post without ever having to leave Lion’s Arch… That’s not what I expected from Guild Wars 2. The marketing hype and my experiences in the Beta led me to believe I was getting into a game that was built around immersive experience and good times as you delve further and further into the game, not merciless RNG and grinding. That’s not the game I want to play, and I’m not playing it.

Instead, I’m going to sit tight on everything-but-my-precursor until it’s fixed. It’s obviously an oversight that it ended up this way, it just doesn’t fit what this game is supposed to be. In the meantime, I’ll have myself some fun without a legendary.

I remember originally hearing that legendaries were something that was expected to take roughly a year of casual play to achieve. So be it… but… isn’t the quest for a legendary already enough of a gold sink without a precursor? I liked someone else’s suggestion of having tokens given when you gamble eligible weapons into the mystic forge, so that at least there would be some kind of upper limit on just how badly someone can struggle before they get their precursor. (At the time of posting, The Legend is 625 gold).

Hey, who remembers going for a black moa chick in guild wars 1? That was fun. That was an awesome scavenger hunt quest that took you through all aspects of the game and some really cool content.

I do.. I made 3 of them on different characters. The scavenger hunt required you to have gone to all places on the map so you could chase down various key aspects of the creation of the minipet. I whole-heartedly agree that this is something Anet should have done in the first place with precursors.

But they themselves admitted that they did not expect Legendaries to have taken off this quickly. The hardcores and elitists got to L80 and found no endgame after their story was complete, so they made Legendaries (after a bit over a month after the game was launched). It’s because of this “being caught off guard” excuse that they haven’t done anything visible in the game, though they’re monitoring prices (yeah right Anet, seen them lately?) and now they have to get their act together to keep up with the demand.

Three-quarters of the Legendary isn’t that hard to achieve; it takes world knowledge, a bit of WvW (jumping specifically) and an arseload of coin for T6 material stacks if you don’t farm. Having said that, farming events is a bit of a different story, and the heavy bags are dropping more often now which contain more T6 mat’s but it’s still a big time-investment.

I know my luck with the mystic toilet… I battled for ages with big Z for 77 mystic clovers. Having said this, I’d rather take my chances with that temperamental djini than splurge 600g+ on something someone else put up on the trading post, and award their good fortune (and greed, I might add) with my hard-earned. I’d rather feel like I earned the precursor than simply buy it from where it’s readily available. I believe it’s better to buy Lvl75+ exotics (for the best chance) or craft like-weapons if you have the coin and the materials, and then when you have the cash, make 20-30 of these and hope for the best when you make that big flush in the mystic toilet.

Finally I’ll say that it was a massive mistake for Anet to make full Legendaries buyable from the trading post. As if buying a precursor was bad enough… there’s nothing legendary about buying it. Flipping stuff on the TP might be how you roll, but to me it’s not playing the game. There’s no involvement, no immersion in watching numbers while standing idle at a trading post NPC. At the state they’re in, Legendaries are far from legendary… they’re just sad.

Perfectly true. Pure sadness, the last thing ingame, something for a strict elite, a real player worthy, it’s here just a matter of gold (cash) and you’re done, not even playing the game more than what’s needed to accumulate the money. Real fail, such a disappointment.

Everyone, including me are expecting some kind of a solution for precursors, but can’t you all see that Arena Net doesn’t want to fix it?

80% of this game is about pure luck (fractal weapon drops ,precursors, lodestones, mystic clovers, xxx kind of dust) , the other 20% is pure grind (farm your brains out until you get enough mats, ores, yellow items, so you can sell them on TP for money). The way I’m earning money at the moment, I will have around 600 gold somewhere around December, 2014 . By then, precursors will be 15000 gold.

No matter how many posts this thread has, no matter how people talk about it – they will not fix this precursor problem anytime soon.

1. They can’t because they don’t know how to find other way than gambling to get something really rare.
2.They don’t want because they want us to buy gems for real money and convert them to gold so we can buy it from TP.
3. They know that they can do whatever they want, that there are no consequences for their bad actions – other than losing players to other MMO’s.

I’ve completed the requirements for the legendary in late November, all but the precursor.
At first, i gambled.
Needless to say, my good fortune is somewhere secretly locked by an evil being as i have had no luck.

I stopped gambling for a while and gathered some gold, tried to enjoy the game. Got caught up in fractals etc etc…
The scavenger hunt gave me some hope, but after the lovely announcement (“it’s not coming anytime soon”), my hopes shattered..again.

I went to the Mystic Toilet to flush some more rares and exotics. Pointless of course.

For the last month, I’ve been gathering gold..slowly increasing the amount gained. But do i really want to spend ~700 gold on a precursor and give the “lucky” ones or the “hoarders” who buy and re-sell? Not really.

I’m highly disappointed not just by the precursor, but by the entire experience. Except the world explore and the dungeons, the rest is a sad grind. I look back and regret starting the “epic journey to be”.
Due to the changes implemented, i now have almost all the requirements for a second legendary weapon. It feels “epic”, so “epic” that the word “ni hao” can’t even describe it.

PS:
My last attempt was 500 rare staffs. The results were 0 exotics, 0 precursors, at 30 silver a staff (which is under the value it was when i attempted the “toilet” and still is).

Nice job ANet, let’s go- please don’t stop here. Make it 10 000 gold each precursor! Then let Collin say on one of the commercials " I swung a sword, heeeyyy I swung it again"…

Thinking about deleting this luck based game soon…

Perfect truth.

1 You got it right, enjoy the gamble of this fantasy casino. Hey, where is the cashout button? Lol
2 Aye, throw some real money please
3 Perfect truth. Time to leave, most of us left yet, are you still here?

As said, are you still playing? If you need suggestions about other mmos, feel free to PM

Clearly, noone from Anet is gonna answer on this thread with a serious answer nor a change, don’t expect any. At best, a mod will delete my post infracting me, the only thing they do

I face a situation where I have everything needed for my Sunrise except the precursor.
I have 520 g in bank and could be close to buy it on TP (even if prices are now closer to 600g….).
I can wait to get it but I would like to avoid to pay 550g in a precursor and got some news from Anet next week…..PLEASE communicate, anything you can….just a word….to say if it is still in plan, and maybe for “when”….. so many post on forums on that topic.
Give news (and hope) to your users !

Not sure if you kept up with this thread but it should be obvious that if you want a guarantee, buy it, if you dont want to spend your life savings then gamble it away. you either save some gold or spend it all, odds are you gonna spend it all. Arenanet wants to make it difficult they succeeded.

If you just knew that precursor you’re gonna buy for 600g was bough for half and resold (or maybe a smart guy who bough at beginning for 20/10g, good old gold days), or just a guy who crafted 4 random rares, got one, spent 1g at best. It’s absurd we are at 6th month, and still playing this crappy system for a legendary. Worthy player huh? haha

We were promised new ways to get a pre with the last patch. The prices dropped a little at the 1st week ,its true but now we are in the same situation as before. I hope the new update will bring more changes for the pres (at least for the really expensive ones).

Atm i make less gold per day than the price they gain of the pre. Dusk goes up 20g each day (Buy order). With this rate i will always be a step back even if i wanted to buy it from TP.
To overcome this i have to lvl up at least 4 alts and run cof all day.
I have 3 alts already but instead of enjoying the gameplay of the different classes i blindly farm cof .

I dont know if it is our fault that we are so obsessed with Legendaries. But atm we dont have another goal as it seems. WvW update will keep me busy at least. We will see.

What you’re doing, following your dream collecting money to buy your precursor, and looking at it raising daily, is exactly what “powerful healthy” players around you do: raise the price accordingly to the “general health”. If the community is making money, the price will rise quickly, even doubled/tripled every few days. Believe me or not, every time you will be next to buy it, the price will be again 300g more, making your dream more far…far…so far..
Market manipulation, there is a group doing it, laughing so much i cannot describe. I have a friend of this “elite group”. He always have fun to tell me new funny stories of people attempting to use the TP, ending up scammed by him/them, lol

Precursors are, IMHO, a smaller piece of the legendary to be farmed. <…> The grind to gather the hundreds of thousands <other ingredients for Legendary>, all of these overshadow the precursor as far as time investment.

That the Legendarys are hard to get is is OK, everybody agrees.

The real problem is that while everybody has the same enormous grind for all the other ingredients, the randomness of the precursors is totally unfair to a the unlucky. They don’t mind a grind to get it, but do not understand why they (as equal players) have to grind chests and throw hundreds to thousands of rares and exotics in the mystic toilet while another player gets it after 10 tries or were lucky enough to get it from the Karka event chest (basically free).

Exasperating the problem is also the Trade Market “players” that increase the prices for certain things, like the precursors. Here I see that a few are profiting and the players who came later are at a serious disadvantage.

The exploits apparently have been fixed, but the problems have not been fixed. The two things the game makers have to address is 1) how to undo the results of the exploits in the market and bad feelings it has generated in those who did not “profit” and 2) how to get precursors out in a way that is very difficult but doesn’t kill the fun for hard gaming players based on a incredibly unfair roulette system.

My personal feeling is that I have invested a lot of money (gem store) in the game and thus pay the game makers above average funds for a player. I don’t expect to have better chances at things, I am getting my rewards thru the gem store. But I don’t want to be at a disadvantage either! I am presently grinding chests and the mystic toilet to excess. Yet all the others I know who already have the legendary, got the precursor early in a chest drop or after less than 15 tries at the forge… This dissonance makes me feel very bad and angry, not really what a game is supposed to make you feel.

Alexandra, they (Arena Net) will never change the way people obtain precursors.
We can all fool ourselves about it : scavenger hunt, another “Karka” event that will lower the prices…

Check the latest patch – Fused skins – they DROP rarely from Black Lion Chests. Another RNG.

After 28 pages of players on this topic, where people proved that RNG is bad, that noone doesn’t like it, and that most of the people stopped playing – Arena Net implements yet another RNG way to obtain something new.

So all this talk here, all these letters that people spent in here – are worthless. THEY DON’T KNOW HOW TO DO IT, if they did they would have done it already. Every new patch is more and more RNG.

The thing was – “O, people – noone is using black lion chests anymore – noone is buying keys from out trading post. So, anyone have an idea on how to fix this?”
Someone raises hand from the employes – “Me me me me sir.”
Director: “What you have on your mind?”
Employee: “We can make new skins, and make them randomly drop from chests-so people will buy keys to open chests”
Director: “Good thinking , you have a raise on this month salary – everyone, you heard the guy – desing the new skins, and we implement that in the new patch”.
