In my opinion, I think legendary weapons are pitched at the right level, they are not supposed to be easy to get, otherwise everybody would have one. I dont think that you are supposed to go onto the TP and buy loads of weapons from it just to throw into the forge, i think the idea is to farm (karma for example)and when exotics drop, you then throw them in (no money being spent here) i have had a look at the Precursors needed to obtain the Twighlight and i have to say that, yes its going to take a while to get all the items together to be able to craft twiglight, however, in time and without spending a great deal of money, i should be able to get one. All the Precursors required can be obtained by a little hard work. Again it is only my opinion.

They better tread realllllly carefully with this update. Legendaries are already pretty common, only yesterday we saw 2 people in the same party on the same server with legends

I’ve spent a lot of gold trying to get a precursor to no effect. They nerf my class nigh every patch yet fix none of it’s bug, and they’re introducing gear creep when it was a manifesto promise that this wouldn’t be the case.

If they suddenly make precursors ten a penny, slap more nerfs, fail to fix more bugs and address serious balance issues and then add a new layer of gear to boot; I won’t be around for the next patch.

There’s only so many times you can beat on a customer and expect them to come back for more.

Why does everyone think that the precursor will be “easier” to get? Now it’s a pure luck-based system. Actually it can’t get much easier than throwing 4 rares into the MF and having a lot of luck. And it can’t get more annoying than farming Plinx for 150 hours.

I for one hope that it’s gonna be still really hard, but less painful – for example giving it as a reward for the dungeon master achievement. Just don’t make me farm 250 lodestones, 500k karma or 300g kitten

Not all of us

I’m happy with the current system. Most my guild feels legendaries are already too common (When you see two guys with legends in the same event on the same server at the same time, that’s already too common. The game’s only been out 3 months!)

And then there’s good business buying and selling precursors. If the precursors become easier to obtain, that’ll teabag the precursor market so that the rich stay rich and nobody else can join the rich elite club because there’s nothing on the market that can earn you triple-figure sums.

Then people’ll continue to kitten about they can’t join the rich club and you know what… it’ll been their own kitten fault. I’m just fed up the whining majority dragging me with them, leave me out of it.

I don’t give a rats kitten about how common the skins are, more common the better in fact from my standpoint as a trader. More people to sell to

The economy is already pretty shaken up, lot of traders getting fed up and pissed off with their markets being constantly crushed and having to find new business opportunities (Which are getting slimmer with each shake-up). Killing the precursor market WILL have a profound impact on the game economy and that’ll end in another big economic shake-up.

Do you enjoy economic instability and skyrocketting prices of essential items?

And this is why GW2 is going to hurt itself. Apathy

Annoy a small fraction or previously contented players with each patch so they end up leaving, in order to please a whiny minority who are unappeasable anyway (At first it was dungeons were too hard, now legends are too rare, next the is porridge too hot and the bed too soft), but since the majority doesn’t get crapped on with each patch that’s ok right?

Well… no.

Because the players who were on-board with the GW2 manifesto aren’t the ones whining, they’re also the core you want to keep, because appeasing whining just leads to more whining as it proves to the player base they can manipulate the devs into doing things they want that may not be good for the game’s integrity overall (ie. making the best armour only available in dungeons)

Wait what? You’re equating people who want different ways to get a precursor with the people who wanted gear progression? And then you’re saying that both these groups were NOT on board with the GW2 manifesto???

How the hell did you get to that conclusion? Why would people who want DIFFERENT ways to get legendaries also want only ONE way to get best gear? It’s like two completely different types of complaints.

Personally I was very much on board with the manifesto and I seem to recall a lot of anti grind mentality within it. So… “scavenger hunt” sounds way less grindy than excessive RNG or farming up 400 gold to me..

If anything, this change is happening because ANET is on board with the GW2 manifesto. As for the new ascended gear, that’s a different topic but personally I certainly wasn’t whining for it and I do have strong concerns about it.

Actually in 2 separate posts they said first: they would be adjusting how hard it is to get precursors in the upcoming build, and in the future they would be making new ways to get them. For the first part I’m assuming that means drop rates and mystic forge proc chances.

And in the second: they would be adding some sort of scavenger hunt. This is what the first post alluded to.

Two things:

-I’m pretty sure the scavenger hunt changes will be in another patch. I would much rather they do that anyway from a content push perspective. It would also give them some time to test this.

-Wait a few days and see how the markets are. The first day for anything is horrible. Look at the Halloween skin prices when the event first hit. Wait 1-2 weeks for prices to settle.

If the above doesn’t happen in a few weeks (or at least has someone acknowledging that there’s an issue) THEN go ahead and yell and scream.

Whats funny is rares have increased in price considerably; they are almost twice as much as they used to be. (i used to buy rare hammers in bulk for ~12s50c) At current market prices, they would have to DOUBLE the precursor drop rate from MF just to BREAK EVEN with how it was a few weeks ago. This alone will keep people from trying to gamble again.

I doubt they increased it that much; my guess is prices will dip in the short term from the “fear” that the precursors will be easy to get from gambling, but then rise again once people realize its still stupidly hard.

I will not give out any secrets as you know, it WILL affect my profit margins directly if I was to blurt something out about how I make money. It is not flipping, I can tell you that.

The way Anet ‘fixed’ the godskull ‘exploit’ was to nerf the overall drop rate of ALL methods of getting a precursor. They only reacted to the out cry of the masses. Most got their info from ‘word of mouth’ which is basically like a rumor mill and things get mixed up and misunderstood.

From the information I gathered, people used to get 8 precursors per 1000 rare weapons into the mystic forge. After the godskull ‘fix’ it went to 2 precursors per 1200 rare weapons into the mystic forge. These were tests before/after this fix withOUT the use of godskull rares. This was pointed out in various threads thru out this forum yet people still misunderstand the information in front of their faces.

Also, just because they say level 80 exotics gives the highest chance for precursors, does not mean that it has a more higher chance than using 4 level 78 exotics or 2 level 65 exotics + 2 level 80 exotics. They only say it has a higher chance because the outcome is always level 80 exotics. The percentage is always the same with any combination of exotics, as long as it produces a level 80 exotic.

According to Linsey on this very thread they did NOT make any across the board changes and there WERE recipes that granted a higher chance of obtaining a precursor. No offense but I think I preffer to believe an Anet dev.

Now, you say you’re making 30g per 2 hours. That’s quite an accomplishment, but of course you can’t reveal your secret or it wouldn’t work anymore. This makes me think it’s still somehow TP related and you don’t want to increase supply. It’s all well and good but I don’t see why you’re using this fact as some kind of anecdote as to why gold is easy to make.

You are NOT the standard and legendaries should NOT be adjusted to you. Any dev with good sense will look at how much a normal dedicated person can earn instead of someone using a gimmick. Anet will always look at standard play to base their decisions off and nobody imo can make 30g every hour through standard play.

Even if you say legendaries need to remain exclusive this is a dumb way to promote it. Money making gimmicks are a stupid way to judge who’s worthy of being legendary.

I agree with this.
I have 1074 hours logged as of now and I can tell you the most I make (really pushing it) is around 2-3 gold an hour.

They said we will start noticing the changes from this patch. Anything but luck factor would be fine, just let people do something to obtain precursor. I liked the idea and execution of getting the legendary daggers in WoW Cataclysm- rogues needed to do series of quests to use all their skills to get phase 1 daggers. Story, quests, everything was cool. Later of course it become a farming in dungeons…

Everything is the same. They slightly raised the chance. What that means? If the chance for getting the precursor was lets say 0.05%, doubling it would be 0.10% which is still crap. Why not do something other then put 4 exotics in the mix and pray to the Balthazor or Grenth that it will drop what u want??

And one more thing – lot of people here talking how legendary weapons should be hard to obtain and so on. I don’t think that it was Arena NEt’s plan that only chosen ones have legendary. They will not loose their value even if all players have them. It is not the same MMO as others, where everyone wants to stand in the crowd and be noticed.

And also- legendary weapons are not SO legendary looking in my opinion. I want to have it, but not thrilled with the looks so much…

Sry for caps just noticed i capsed

ok hurt my eyes with those caps secondly i did say have a fun way to obtain a second generation of legendaries did i not?

Precursors have been dropping like mad today with that Ancient Karka special event chest.

You can see the prices of the precursors tumbling big time on the TP!

It will only be temporary though. The chest is not persistant.

And precursor prices are rising again..

Sadly I got none. And I’m upset I didn’t get The Hunter after getting frustrated and throwing all my savings in the Mystic Forge again..

Anyone have tips? Is Fractals a reliable means of money?

Fractals gives you drops. Im not quite to lvl 10 but so far running normal dungeons or cursed shore still gives you much more money.

Best bet is to wait for this new scavenger hunt and hope its actually something reasonable and not just more RNG.

Until the Scavanger Hunt is up, prices will be back to where they were before “The Lost Shores”, so I guess there will be some Precursors still be popping up in the TP during the next few days and then it will be all about a rise again.

Has anyone noticed the increased drop chance in PvE? I’m doing Temple Events and Jormag on a daily basis and haven’t had more than the one per week popping up in the local channel after the event, which is basically the same rate it was before.
Those chest need a severe chance increase. Considered you did partake in “The Lost Shores” you had a 15% chance (guessed) for 3 hours of hard work through lags.

I ran 2-3 Grenth Temple Events and Jormags per day, have freed the entrace to Arah whenever possible, 5-6 days a week which is basically much more than a 100 hours event runs alone. And I had an overall chance of 0,00001% for getting one. This is not the balance I had expected.

Looking back, I really would have prefered some story or gathering or whatsoever task which had taken up 100 hours (or more) of playing time.

I just hope for one thing: ANET, don’t replace RNG with even more RNG, like “The Lost Shores” did. It’s not kind of a creative solution.
