Fireworks Thread - Overflow and Achievement issues
thats annoying since i keep getting disconnected, i end up in a different overflow every time -.- im never gonna get my dragon hat
Kiel Replacement Movement
Let me explain how this works.
The firework event cycle (them happening every two hours) was started at 9:00 AM PDT. The event itself is tied to the ingame time and will happen at dawn (ingame). So your fireworks might not have happened yet, as it is not dawn ingame.
Apologies for us not communicating this more clearly. But the fireworks will happen every two hours over the course of the weekend, so plenty of time to marvel at them and get the achievement.
So what you’re saying is: although there is some schedule behind it, we have no way of knowing it because we are pushed to random overflows and we have to wait some random time between 0 and 2 hours standing idle at the fountain?
Awesome event. I hope I get credit while tabbed out doing something else…
So basically what he said was on Blackgate we have to wait until dawn in game time which means it’s going to happen at 11am PDT maybe. Was not dawn at 9 am PDT on Blackgate and right now it’s the middle of the night in game.

It’s night in the LA i’m on the overflow server. It’s another fail overflow group event.
Wy didn’t you do this in all Tyria capitals?
I’m here from 9:00 AM PDT to 10:05 AM PDT and no achie.
Awesome… 30 minutes in the server, just to dont go in overflow. Firewroks clock starts ticking, i wait another 57 minutes.
My client loses conexion, i enter again and… i am in overflow, and the people where i was supposed to be, got the achievement… and the objets… just great.

So release the times for each server in a clear language and times for each server so we don’t have to deal with this miss communication.
next time set a real life schedule so people can decide when they want to see the firework not an in game schedule.

So basically you’re forcing people to stand around in Lion’s Arch for up to 120 minutes.
Due to the large amount of players trying to see the fireworks a lot of people will be stranded in the overflow and there’s no way whatsoever to know when it is ingame time dawn on an overflow server.
I do not wish to insult someone but whoever came up with this clearly hasn’t thought it entirely through it would appear.
you may keep them to rear new and interesting variants in your basement.
Seriously, would it have been so difficult to just force nighttime in la when it’s 20:00 IRL? Waiting for some arbitrary schedule without notice is unfun and stupid.
Apologies for us not communicating this more clearly.
This seems to be happening a lot lately. You might want to look at your communication processes and work on fixing the bugs there.
Is it not working in overflow at all? I skipped the change over because I had been here so long I didn’t want to miss it.. now I am regretting that decision.
Just put a kitten clock in LA if it’s dependent on ingame day/night cycle. just to give a clue
A lot of people had difficulty telling the “official” fireworks from player fireworks and the launchers. I was standing right under them in LA while it was happening, and people around me kept insisting it wasn’t the “real” fireworks. Could there be an event prompt or something in future, so that people aren’t frustrated?

That’s what I figured would happen, it’s the logical way to do it.
Oh you’ve GOT to be F’n kidding. I’ve been there since 8:45AM PST!!!!!!!!

I just watched the fireworks, dragon got shot, and no ach. Can you explain this as well please?
How do I tell when dawn is? With all the cloud etc over Lion’s Arch it’s impossible to tell if dawn has passed or not. My weapon that normally glows as night has stopped glowing, but I don’t see any fireworks.
Alright then, you know the drill from gw 1, people. Away from keyboard in LA.

im sorry cause some people got a schedule in real life put off what they were doing for an hour or so to get the achievement and because yall didnt make this clear they had to go and now wont get the achievement. why cant you guys force it to go every two hours not make it depend on game time for stuff go off. it was idiotic to do it that way.
How do I get the achievment? I watched the long firework show and nothing happened for me. A couple people got it when a bunch of others didnt.
since when a firework goes up at dawn?
else waddawadda overflow fail timing and so on nothing more to add then the rest already did
Oh you’ve GOT to be F’n kidding. I’ve been there since 8:45AM PST!!!!!!!!
Same !!!! Went in early because I know just how the overflow kicks in for these big events, waited waited waited and hung around extra time (nothing—now they post it’s based on ‘dawn’—sorry for the miss communication—-it just doesn’t cut it Anet.

Except for people like me that had one chance to view them and planned a schedule around yet another poor communication by Anet. Thanks for the update and I guess I will catch them next year if they have another Dragon Bash. You people need to learn to communicate much better. All we hear time and again is “it was poor communication on our part.” I believe there are classes at a community college that you can take for communication…just sayin’.
by the way assuming half your playerbase is placed in europe it would act of courtesy setting up propper timezones for any coming events.
we use gmt thx!

SO umm…when is dawn in-game? I know there i night and day, but I have never seen an actual clock or moon/sun thingy like some games have or anything.
I suppose that’s great to know when it comes to day and night cycle. With that said, I don’t suppose anyone in Tyria has invented some sort of watch that tells us “Tyrian Time” yet … ? I think that’s a great idea if we’re going to utilize the day/night cycle system to initiate certain events in the game.
I am Fleeting Flash, in-game dungeon cosplayer of Reddit Refugees [RR] .
Yeah that’s why I asked in the post right after the mod post about the day/night cycle and I still haven’t seen an answer…to the wiki!
Ok, from the wiki:
Day lasts for 70 minutes, night for 40 minutes and the transitions between the two take 5 minutes each, comprising a 2-hour cycle.
Wow that’s not too obscure, is it?
Wow
I’m sorry but this has to be one of the worst designed events ever
Thankfully I only had to wait 1/2 hour.
But to design an event around a two hour cycle – no clock – no notice
an ingame cycle that is different on every server, including overflows, no less
communicate wrong starting times
No announcement that the event has begun – I initially had a hard time telling the official fireworks from the player fireworks
and bugged achievement/reward for lots of people
I don’t think this one could have been messed up more if they had actually planned ways to fail
Grade of F- on this one ANet
Dawn in game? The sky looks brown all the time. Is there a sun or moon we are supposed to track? This is really bad implementation, again.
I’m not surprised, just another dissappointment as usual.
I was on seafer’s rests but I did not get the achievement
Ahah got the achievement only right now…
i watched 2 fireworks, 0 achs
Gawd, ingame time.. Did you even consider overflow being a problem with that?.
Completely screws up your two hour time frame. What newbie work this is.
what time of day is it right now? let’s look up and see, hmm
cloudy orange haze
gg blizz
I got achievement first cycle, on overflow, Desolation. Guildies not in overflow didn’t get it.
Tbh, the fireworks I saw looked just like personal ones… nothing to write home about.
Where’s the spectacular event we were lead to believe would happen? I have no reason to go back now. I would have loved to watch more times if was better.
It happen on Blackgate… at dawn exactly as planned.
Kauanoe Bringer – Blackest of Gates
Again..when is dawn?
I’m going to try to leave this criticism as constructively as possible, so please keep in mind if any developers/staff happen to be reading this that I’m speaking out of the spirit of wanting to make Guild Wars 2 as good as it can be.
This whole mechanic was poorly implemented, to be frank. I can understand wanting to base it on day/night cycles to get optimal lighting/visual presentation and to have it “make sense” within the game world, but since there is no way of knowing what exact time of day it is and since this value is practically randomized among every server/overflow you’re basically asking us to wait a random amount of time between 0 and 120 minutes (assuming you don’t get disconnected) to get this achievement and festival hat.
I’d like to suggest these events be made to run at a certain real-world time for all servers/overflows. The sky is always darker in LA for this event anyway. At the very least, please give us an indication of how much time is remaining until the event fires, just a simple countdown in the Living Story quest box would work.
I enjoy these events and appreciate the work you put into them, I’d just like to see this particular instance run smoother and avoid the confusion and chagrin felt among players wanting to get this achievement/festival hat. Thanks!

So if I miss the fireworks show, I have no way of telling when the next one is. I can usually tell if it’s “day” or “night” in game, though that’s not as distinctive as I’d like.
However if I get into the game and it’s night, how long do I have to wait? No idea. When’s dawn? No clue. I can’t even leave Lion’s Arch, because I might be in another overflow when I come back — and of course not all day/night cycles are synchronized in game so dawn out in Gendarran Fields has nothing to do with the time of dawn in Lion’s Arch. Or anywhere else.
This would have been much better if it was scheduled on the in game clock — every odd hour, for instance.
Again..when is dawn?
Just after the night was darkest?
I am on Ferguson’s Crossing. I have been in server from 8:30am in Lion’s Arch at the Grand Piazza… it is now 11:07 and still no fireworks or achievement. And, I am not in overflow.

Martin, I’m still at work and haven’t had a chance to get home and log in yet, but there have been no fireworks at my work, could you fix that please?
Do I win the “most impatient post” award?
i am super angry about this bs. i am not buying gems until arenanet straightens itself out.

Just after the night was darkest?
Real funny troll—lol—-not!
Dev answer the question please, or some sort of schedule instead of asking us to stand around for hrs or luck into it by accident.
Im gonna say this again. I already watched 2 fireworks. 0 achs. tks anet
Another badly implemented event. Why should I be surprised?
After the food in the Dragon ball arena fiasco, after the Moa race fiasco, the fireworks fiasco.
What will be your next failure?
