Kiel's abit of a ...
If you follow the rescue of the dolyaks inside Lions Arch under attack, you will see how much of a jerk Evon is.
Yeah Kiel’s a bit of a jerk too, but he’s far worse, hehe
And now he’s also corrupting poor, innocent Heal-O-Tron….
I did follow the Dolyaks, I have multiple times now and have yet to see Evon. I’ve even rushed to do the first dolyak event and still he isn’t there. Can someone full screen shot it because if I don’t have proof then all it is currently is a nice photoshop job of some made up dialogue.

your hero ladies and gentleman. not caring about other evacutees and the richest and most snobby member of the council calling him out on his bullkitten.
Lol, I’ve seen that fraudulent piece of slander before on other sites. What I asked for is a fullscreen capture actually showing him doing this. Not a bunch of text someone (Kiel Supporter) could of easily put together. I have rushed to do the very first Dolyak escort quest and countless others and Evon was never there.
When you talk to Shud outside the Vigil keep he says he shut down ALL of the portals, and mentioned nothing of Evon.
Meanwhile Kiel is forcing Evon to relinquish all of his stock or face execution by firing squad.

Speaking of slander, where is this in game, Hmmm???? This thread stinks of Evon supporters, including the OP, trying to twist the good name of Kiel!

Meanwhile, as Gnashblade stands around whining like a spoiled cub in the Vigil keep, Kiel armors up and grabs an airship to reenter LA. Lucky for us, she’s in the nick of time to save Magnus and anyone else they can carry about the airship.
That is a true hero and leader for the people of Tyria!
:)

Captain Ironbeard is probably attempting to get back in the fight, which would require Ellen and a few other Lionguard to keep him from injuring himself further, since he is a Norn. I have a feeling in the next living story we may see Captain Ironbeard personally leading the first wave of the counter attack, since I don’t see a proud Norn warrior sitting back while others fight.
Anyways it could be possible that Ellen has just saved Evon’s life with this conscription. From what I read he left a member of the Captain’s Council to die, who hold absolute authority over the city and its citizens. Perhaps they wanted him executed for this behavior and she suggested instead they enlist him into the Lionguard and his assets be used to help retake the city. They found this to be a more suitable punishment then immediate death, since it is implied Evon comes off as a greedy individual. Another possibility is this was prearranged between Evon and Ellen, with Evon’s behavior simply him maintaining his disguise despite the circumstances.

Ugh. This thread is making me Team Scarlet, and I hate Scarlet.
If this is the best the world has to offer, let it burn.

“Nope, he’d be out here sipping Tea in safety.”
You mean like ALL of the other Council members who aren’t directly in charge of the armed force of the city? Why are you praising Kiel for doing her job but denouncing Gnashblade for doing his?
I don’t believe Evon Gnashblade would, nor SHOULD be in Lion’s Arch fighting. That’s not his job. His job is mercantile. Kiel should be in Lion’s Arch, not doing whatever she was doing to bring in her airship for a last minute “rescue.” Maybe if she had actually been in the city doing what Magnus was doing we could have saved more people and wouldn’t need a flashy escape. Evon, who really shouldn’t have even been there, stayed behind to collect the goods that Kiel would ultimate steal from him anyway.
Yes, he closed the gate on stragglers, but too bad, they had plenty of time to get through and didn’t take it, better they be left behind than Scarlets minions be given free reign to wherever that gate lead.
Evon is not a nice guy. No one with any sense has ever claimed he was. No one with any sense should believe he should be nice. He’s a merchant. He is greedy, manipulative and cut throat. But he owns his actions and himself and doesn’t apologize for it. He also gets things done. All of which is more than I can say for Kiel, who has never done anything constructive her entire career.

The Southsun refugees would disagree. She creatively found a solution to help them out rather than being held back by bureaucratic red tape. Not to mention she helped to find and apprehend Canach. And she helped investigate the Thaumanova Reactor incident where we found out more about Scarlet. And like Evon, she tried to warn the Captain’s Council of Scarlet’s impending attack. Keep in mind she’s the newest member of the council, it’s not like she can strong arm them into listening to reason. I’d say the same were it Evon in her place.
People need to keep in mind that there will be instances where characters like Kiel and Evon seem inept in the light of reason. This is due to MMO storytelling and the need for gameplay to take precedence over story. If Evon had won the election, we’d be seeing the same limitations placed upon him and likely the same caterwauling over it all.

Ha! But I got you on that one. She used an act of destruction to make the problem go away. Not construction. It may be word play, but what I said is still entirely true.
She didn’t help do anything in Southsun. She stood around then took credit after I did all the work. She didn’t help with Thaumanova either. She bullied an Asura to again make other people do all the work.
She may not be able to convince the Council, but as a member of the Lionguard AND a Councilor, she could have increased the troop count, or anything more than sit around in a bar the whole time.

That’s what we been trying to tell all his fans, there is no reason for Evon to do anything even if he was a member of the Captain’s Council. Ellen thought the evidence was significant, perhaps Captain Ironbeard too, but the rest didn’t even consider taking the slightest precautions. Evon’s customers are found everywhere, so what a single city was razed to the ground. He can use it as an excuse to escalate prices, he can use the destruction to drive what little competition he has out of business as there is no laws in Tyria that prevent a monopoly.
If the Ash Legion did indeed send Evon’s Warband, and if Evon is still part of the Legion, their mission doesn’t concern the well being of the citizens or the city. They want money from the city, why is anyone’s guess, but that was the warband’s objective. This objective can still be met through Lion’s Arch destruction, more so than before it was destroyed. There is a demand for building materials, equipment, and even mercenaries. As a member of the Captain’s Council Evon would be theoretically immune from being conscripted by the Lionguard, thus he could do whatever he felt like without fear of consequences.

Really, the most powerful merchant city in the world, and there is a question as to why he might want it to be maintained and protected? Not to mention his company headquarters are there.

And that’s what makes characters like her and Evon so interesting. They’re not straightforward good or bad, they’re in shades of gray. Though I will say ArenaNet needs to characterize Ellen more, give her more screentime and visible quirks.
She didn’t help do anything in Southsun. She stood around then took credit after I did all the work. She didn’t help with Thaumanova either. She bullied an Asura to again make other people do all the work.
Exactly what Evon would have been limited to and as we’ve seen, any other lore character. They’re set pieces to ask for our help to drive out the baddies. By the lore itself, they’re incredibly competent and effective figures. But in bowing to the gameplay, the developers have to include the players and make us feel important too by preventing the NPC’s from taking the limelight all the time. Look at Destiny’s Edge for a good example of that: portrayed as powerful, yet somewhat flawed characters, but in gameplay they’re wet noodles.
As I said, it’s the drawback to MMO storytelling. If anything, blame the whole development team for the poor implementation of the writing. At the very least, we should be grateful that the latest characters in the Living Story aren’t taking the credit for our work. From what I heard, that’s what happened with Trahearne. The characters are at least grateful to us players for our continued assistance.
She may not be able to convince the Council, but as a member of the Lionguard AND a Councilor, she could have increased the troop count, or anything more than sit around in a bar the whole time.
We don’t really know much of the specifics of what she did in between the time she warned the Council and when Scarlet attacked. It’s possible she was grossly incompetent, but we just don’t know. At the very least we see her having prepared an airship to help evacuate and not letting Magnus go “down with the ship”, so to speak.
I have my own theories and what can happen next if LA would come back. Especially if the writers want to make the situation darker story with season 2. I think the biggest winner out of this entire attack is the Consortium. They can make a comeback out of what happened to LA. First they can make it a point that can fund the reconstruction of LA for a price. Second they can blame the Captain Council for the lack of security prior to the attack on LA. They could use captain Kiel as a primary witness to this occurrence. Which knowing her would not lie under oath.
Furthermore their HQ is not primarily in LA unlike the black Lion Trading Post. So once the new city is built they can administrate martial law (consortium mercenaries at the forefront) and get rid of piracy in the new LA. As for the stuff in Southsun they can simply blame it on Canach again and then try to execute him. So they can get rid of the primary witness to somewhat refute that fact. Of course someone would actually rescue him or he would escape. Their next step would be to exile, imprison, or execute members of the captain council (including Captain Kiel). Probably even outlawing Evon Gnashblade business altogether within the new LA.
Of course this is a bit of speculation. However after seeing what happened to Hobo Tron and the minstrel, getting blamed for their involvement with Scarlet during the Queens Jubilee incident. I have this feeling the people will start laying blame on the people who had nothing to do with Scarlet’s attack (once she is gone). Especially with those people who were in places of power during LA’s collapse.

My god. This is so much like reading the daily politics comments on CNN. Uncanny.
If he told only us, but we didn’t tell Kiel or the rest of the council, then what does that make us?
Marjory was the one who was going to tell Kiel. (at the end of the second dead end bar instance last patch)
Please give us a keyring…

A headquarters can be relocated, another city will rise in merchant power, life continues.

Funny. I was recently thinking that I’d like to see more of the Consortium. I’m curious about their base of operations and what they’ve been up to. Though I hope things don’t go as you speculate because that’d be a pretty poor way to recover from an attack having to deal with political and economical baloney. Too much a reminder of the real world. :P

Of course they would end up loosing their foothold in the end. Probably a rebellion lead by those people that were screwed by them. I am thinking the captain’s council (those who remained), Canach, and lead by Kiel (maybe Evon though reluctantly at first) would take them down. In the end two things would happen. First LA gets a new look thanks to the Consortium funding. Second once they are figured out the Consortium can lay blame on some megalomaniac and narcissistic leader they hired on the LA project. So they could say it was not them and plead ignorance on things going atrocious again.
She is fighting and he is whining in Vigil Keep
Team Kiel forever
And who’s fault is it that there are even any refugees? Scarlet’s. And who’s fault is it that Lion’s Arch was destroyed almost without a fight? Kiel’s. Kiel should be put to death for every life she lost.
Nah Kiel was actually trying, it’s the rest of the council that should be paying for the supplies for the liongaurd and refugees instead of extorting from Evon.
On top of it, all of them were warned by Evon, and they did nothing. Further inaction on the part of Kiel and the rest of the council. They should all be put to death and replaced by people who can get the job done.
Voting for Kiel was the right choice, I’m actually starting to see more and more of why this is the case imo. The thing about Evon, is that he was not very well known, except for the fact his character has always been questionable and sketchy. Who’s to say Evon wouldn’t have bought out to Scarlet if he were elected? Who’s to say he didn’t help fund some of this nonsense to exact revenge? He wanted to abandon LA during the attack, he didn’t want to lend his aid post-attack…Kiel is giving him an opportunity to work his way up, not buy it. And I think that might be the direction the government of Lions Arch (council, or not) take in the future. I think she’s going to make a push to decrease corruption due to wealth…Whether or not she is successful, or goes overboard all remains to be seen.
But, they were warned by Kiel. Evon didn’t truly warn them directly he just went on a rant a long time ago which was easy to dismiss at the time. Kiel made a really huge push to prepare Lions Arch, it’s citizens, and the Lionsguard while petitioning the council to take action as well. They didn’t listen, and therefor I think the council should be abolished and Ellen Kiel made de-facto leader/regent for the time being while changes are made to the structure of the government in this place.
