Dynamic Event deminishing returns too stringent
Yeah, it’s absurd. At level 80 in Orr my rewards get reduced from ~360 karma and 1.8 silver down to 19 karma and 9 copper

And the cap system doesn’t care about diversity at all. People sitting at one town defending it all day every time the event comes up never hit the cap because the event takes so long to trigger. People who do event chains or go out and explore the world are the ones who get hit by this.

If they want us to go to different areas, different zones etc, they need to lower WP costs drastically. I have no problem going around the world and helping low levels do DE and going back to different zones etc but when it costs me nearly 3s per Waypoint its just not cost effective.
guess this is becoming the new d3
I’ve been defending Anet’s decision making in nearly all controversial changes because they’ve made sense. This one doesn’t. At all. I’m able to play in Orr for around 50 minutes before I stop getting karma completely (I logged out after I was getting 19 karma per event, where I was getting 378 before). Guild Wars 2 now feels like a facebook game where your ability to play gets removed after your “energy” bar is depleted.
I’m hoping they revert this change as soon as possible. I really do. I haven’t enjoyed a game this much in years and years, but they’re not letting me play right now, and that makes me sad.

Was coming here to post exactly the same thing.
Karma is not tradeable, and there is almost no way to make any significant money from karma. They want us to farm ~1,000,000 karma for our legendary weapon, but whenever we start getting any decent rate of gain they start putting in diminishing returns.
PLEASE Anet stop this, it is totally unneeded, and does not hold any function in preventing bots from doing something. You have to run a lot of events to be able to do this, and no just sitting at the “karma spot” jofast/peninet/shelter’s will not get you enough karma to limit you.
Furthermore, what happens when you’re leveling, and doing 100% map completion? Are you just FORCED out of the map after a while because you’re not getting any more rewards? As a veteran MMO player, it’s weird to me that they’re giving you less than an hour of gameplay per day, when I’m used to several hours.
Sure, I get what they’re playing at. Explore stuff, do different things in different places, but no matter how you look at it, this is a very bad change. I can’t do what I want anymore, and I’m instead forced in different directions to places I don’t want to go to. The best option for me right now is to just log out, wait, and have hope. Don’t mess this up now, Anet. Please.
I get bored on the Karma Racetrack after defending each point twice and just leave to go to Frostgorge Sound or Malchor’s Leap so I never get hit with the diminishing returns… :\ You still get the same amount of karma from doing events in those zones, granted it doesn’t come as fast, but I believe that’s why people don’t like it. If the karma isn’t rolling in fast enough then there’s no point… what’s the rush? None of us are going to be the first to get a legendary (it’s always someone else to get world’s first anything), so what’s the hurry?
You don’t get locked out only by specifically repeating the same events, you get locked out by doing different events on the same map. Again, using my experience as an example because that’s all I know. I was doing four event chains in Cursed Shore. That took around 50 minutes, and the last four or five events gave less than 50 karma per event. I’m not playing like a bot, doing the same three events over and over, I’m just doing stuff all over the map, wherever I feel like going. Again, it makes me sad that I can’t do whatever I want anymore, and I’m forced away from the map after a short time.
This has to be a bug. There’s no other rational explanation for it.
Doing DE Chains arent even worth it anymore, was playing on my alt and after the first part of the chain the diminishing returns kicked in so i basically got nothing from the rest of that chain.
Apparently, the anet team believe that punishing casual gamers severely by making it pointless to do the only thing the game offers is the key to a successful game. High hopes dashed, game over.
I’m exping with my lv 56 and my lv 35 alt. That’s incredible, I can’t believe it.
Hoping in a bug.
this encourages people to move around the world…it makes perfect sense and i think it should remain. however, it needs to apply the endgame content where people crowd around to grind.
players must get rewarded for traveling around the world, for example dragon boss drops should equal the rewards found in Orr. this is how u get people out and about
@Nerva, you fail to recognize several issues with this (such as doing totally seperate even chains). What, am I only allowed two event chains in the area I’m at per day? I gotta go all the way back to this zone tomorrow to do the other two chains?
Oh, and they’re trying to encourage people to move around? Then why are they discouraging people to move around with the high wp price.
That a bug for sure, probably supposed to work only for single or small loop of event.
^ that. i really doubt they MEANT to penalize people questing in lower zones. they probably just wanted to apply this nerf to repeatable, grindable higher lvl DE’s. maybe im too low for t his (lvl 35), but ive been doing DE’s all day in Lornar’s Pass, no issues with rewards.
If anything this is just making me not bother doing event’s I’d rather go farm harpys for blood or something if I hit the cap in a zone I’m doing 100% I’ll just walk straight by events as their not worth my time same as dungeons, but lets not get into that. If you try doing any of the long quest chains in Orr at the moment, especially the one leading upto controlling the gates of Arah you stop getting loot about halfway through, I got very little xp and karma for even killing the end boss in that chain. Punished for playing the game and following a story, thanks to botters and Anet’s once again over reaction.
Whiteside Ridge
They must tell us the real thing about it. High or low lvs, we must have an answer.

It works exactly the OPPOSITE to how you describe it. People who crowd around one event and grind it all day never hit the cap because they aren’t completing events fast enough. People going out and finding lots of event chains which they complete in rapid succession DO get hit by it because they’re doing events too fast.
This system encourages you to AVOID exploration as much as possible.
So correct me if I’m wrong but this change hasn’t appeared in the patch notes has it?
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
Won’t this also hurt the people leveling in the zones with no hearts. Where all they have to do is try to find events so they can level from 70 to 80?
so any word of arena net on this?
This gotta be the most unanimously hated change.
Did Anet even announce this adjustment anywhere in any of their patch notes? From what I’ve gathered reading these threads, this is a recent change, but I haven’t seen any official word about when it was implemented, how exactly it’s supposed to work, or the devs’ rationale for implementing it (although the common assumption seems to be that it’s an anti-botting measure).
My main is only lvl 43 and I haven’t been paying too much attention to the specific amounts of xp, karma, and coin I receive at the end of DEs. Mostly I’ve just been participating in events for fun, using found-gear with occasional TP purchases, assuming that I would spend these rewards at higher levels. Had it not been for all these complaints, I doubt I would have even noticed this issue, so it’s really bothering me that I can’t find anything from any Anet source about it.

.
Not as far as I can see, nothing in patch notes on it, no justification, no reply to the objections to it.

It’s not a recent change. It’s been around for quite a while, it’s just that the recent patch seems to have made it more strict, so more people have noticed it.
I think it just needs to affect you if you did they same event in a row more than 3 times.
If you did the same even three times in a row, you should get out and go do more, so its perfect.
We shall see, its possible its bugged. just chill out people
I posted this same response in another thread, but I feel it is more appropriate here.
Correct me if I am wrong, but the current issue with and MAJOR gripe about the Dynamic Events diminishing is that they affect the entire map NOT just the singular events that are being repeated over and over, and the events DR super fast.
Now if I am right, it is a major problem because players who are just trying to enjoy the map and complete the 100% completion are hitting this cap from just chaining events from following NPC’s after the event has ended or just exploring and finding a bunch of centaurs attacking a village, and their reward for exploring the map or just enjoying that map’s events because of story or just because they are fun is 121xp/19karma/1 for each event.
Now a diminishing reward for events being “farmed”. Eg: A spot one knows where many events occur and you circular that area repeating those events over and over to farm Karma/XP/Gold. Now creating a diminishing rewards systems for the SAME events being repeated are definitely expected and reasonable.
Diminishing rewards for repeated events would be a much better system since it would actually promote map exploration, without having to cap your rewards on one map after 20 minutes then porting to another map to complete random events cap out on that map and repeat. That does just aggravates players since that takes out a lot of what the game was suppose to be. Exploring a map finding random stuff, triggering random things.
Please Arena-net let the community know that the current Dynamic Events Diminishing rewards is either a mistake or just a temporary fix. Having to switch maps back and forth is really not engaging story wise, and penalizing a player for enjoying a maps story and/or events is demoralizing.
Edit: Just got informed in another thread that the Events diminishing rewards applies to all maps and you can’t switch maps to do different events for better rewards?
(edited by Mellowz.3728)
Yeah would be nice to see a red post at least acknowledge that they screwed us over and are at least doing something to make it up to the players. And to be honest reducing the rewards has to be the most halfassed excuse and way to get rid of botters, it’s not going to stop people from botting, it will just make them have to bot longer than before, come on Anet use your head.
I should start making a list of reasons why Anet should have done open beta. This is one of them. Some changes like these really should have feedback before being implemented perma..

No karam = no point to do events. Today the TP is not working. I am suppressed in chat for asking to do LFG Arah story. I didn’t want to watch TV, I just wanted to enjoy a couple of hours in GW2. I am dumping GW2 as part of my routine.
So what’s this cap business about? I did four events within 30 minutes of eachother (In Malchor’s Leap; Break the drake eggs, Kill the Drake Mother, Stop the Inquest from siphoning, and kill the pyrite golems) and I received the regular reward for each of them. Is it just on repeating events per day?
huh… actually this isn’t so bad as everyone’s making it out to be. Was able to do just over 3 cycles of straits DE chain before I hit this snag. Which makes me feel people who are saying it’s less than that had probably just left an event chain in some other part of the game or lost track of time or are over-exaggerating. So.. that was roughly 20-30 or so events I did, the only breaks I had in between were for travelling to the next one. If I had gone off to get a few vistas or skill points or poi’s in this zone during this I imagine it would have occured later or not at all.
Which would suggest to me it’s not just to vaguely prevent bots from benefiting so much, possibly it’s also to slow down the rate at which people level, which was ironic as I had intended to use straits DE cycle to get my 70 guardian to 80 (which I’d heard about when i was leveling my first toon I’m just not as motivated to level this one by exploration). Which of course hurts Karma farmers, but there must be other ways to farm this? I wouldn’t know, I couldn’t give a flying ratskitten about karma. lol. And even if there isn’t, is there nothing in this game besides events that could be done for 20 or so minutes (or however long) until the DR passes?
Guild wars 1 used to have hourly messages saying “You have been on for X amount of hours, please take a break” If I hit these diminishing returns again, I will take it in the same way I took those reminders and will, y’know, take a break as I’ve no doubt been staring at my PC screen for ages anyway. Edit: this is a lie, I’d just go do something else.

Yeah, I’ve been doing all the events I’ve encountered for about an hour or so. I started out at 76 karma per event, then it actually went up to 84, I think. I’m lvl 43, and scaled down considerably since I’m doing the norn starting area for the first time.
Am I just not doing enough events to encounter the DR? Or does it only happen in high lvl areas? If it’s the case that I’m just not doing enough events to run up against the DR, then I think it’s probably a problem I’ll never actually encounter. But then again I play pretty casually.
I’d be surprised if it was only in higher levels. But it really feels like to hit the DR you have to be monotonously repeating the same things over and over without variation or breaks lol. I’ll be watching all my reward stuffs closely for the next few days just to see if any of these complaints hold any weight, then I may agree and complain also. xD
But even then I probably won’t. DE’s are easily the simplest and fastest way to get EXP and Karma compared to.. anything, quite often also mats. I don’t feel it’s unfair to add DR to them if they’ve been repeatedly spammed in a short amount of time. I don’t feel 20-30 minutes is too long a wait for it to reset back to normal. I do feel odd this being one of the few complaint threads where I’ve jumped on the band wagon and then changed my mind.
i agree 100%. DR is terrible.

Monotonously completing the same things won’t do it fast enough. You need to complete events quickly, not repeatedly.

Four events isn’t enough to trigger the cap. Based on my experience hitting the cap for the last few days, I’d estimate that it triggers if you complete more than 16 events per hour, or perhaps 8 events per half hour. That’s completely doable without repeating anything if you know where events are. For example, in Cursed Shore there’s 11 events all in one spot in the northwest, which is how I hit the cap in 24 minutes several days ago.
(edited by Strill.2591)
this is so poorly implimented that it has to be bugged. i can’t see the possible benefit of doing this on purpose from what i’m reading (people triggering this by completing chains).

Ive just hit the limit in CS, I can understand it…ish, What i want to know is, How long does it take to reset going back to normal?
This should be well documented! I was about too use a karma buff and would have been wasted!
This everything in this game is grind, but you are not allowed too grind.

It takes about an hour to reset from my experience.
I really hope this is just a bug or an oversight by anet as it is disrupting honest players far more than it is the reported bots that seem to never get banned.
Bots have no manned timesink into this game honest players do and shouldnt be punished for it.
If this is about botters and gold farmers all I can say is ban China and give us players our game back. If that’s not sound business or whatever at least put more effort into getting bans out for the ones reported faster. They’re spending their time ruining a lot of players gameplay with these patches, while bots roam for over a week without getting banned despite getting reported by many people… I am disappoint. Drive off the gold sellers with harder security and policing, not by making crumby mechanics for everybody!
who actually wants that? Do we really want to be playing those same game mechanics for
another 5 or 10 years? -Mike O’Brien
Is the DR only occurring on the level 80 areas? I managed to do the big boss centaur fight in hinterlands 4 times in the course of an hour including several events that lead to it and (so at least 10 events) and i very specifically watched the xp and rewards, but they did not change one bit. It was pretty much identical every time.
To give you an idea of how fast it was, the chest that spawns after the boss dies, was still there when i returned so i could get all the items before the event even finishes (before even the 3 beasts are killed)
Still no answer. Fine.
I got hit by this DR last night, and it royally screwed up my play time so much I got disgusted and logged off. If this isn’t fixed I think you’ve lost a customer, and I will be making sure I tell people about this system.
This has to be a bug. There’s no other rational explanation for it.
This, basically. Some people are experiencing DR from DEs immediately, even when doing varied events. Some people aren’t seeing it at all (then coming here and calling us all liars and newbs and telling us to L2P).
It really has to be bugged because it’s definitely not discouraging bots from repeating the same event, and is certainly affecting tons of legit players far too much.
It is currently bugged. Check the Dev posts and they have now said its to do with the same tech used in dungeons being, well, borked, and not working properly.

The only thing mentioned there is the dungeon diminishing returns. No one says anything about the loot DR or the event DR.
Its in a thread about Dynamic Event DR, so yes, its related to that.
