[KICK] You’re out of the Guild
#beastgate
Everybody knows the only reason the reactor won was because of the waypoint costs. If the vote was just between the fractals i’d bet reactor would have lost. The Abaddon fractal was probably the best idea arenanet has come up with for the living story and shouldn’t be discarded forever.
Initially I thought so too. But I’ve since decided that I don’t really want them touching such an old and important piece of lore. Looking at all the ways they have marginalised the gods in GW2 I have a feeling it might have been a let down :/
Thaumanova should be good though.
can only wish and pray but would make vote pointless so anet probly isn’t

While I agree with the idea that it would have been bad to rush Abbadon Fractal within a four month time frame. I don’t think the Thaumanova is going to give us more information on the lore we don’t already know. Also if anything is new is added it will be very either formulaic/stereotypical, or will be allusions to things we will never have answered. Especially after I end up seeing this on the update page and reconfirming the inquests involvement:
“Thaumanova Reactor Fractal: You voted, and Kiel delivered! Experience the moments leading up to the catastrophic destruction of the Thaumanova Reactor, caused by the Inquest’s reckless experiments with Chaos Energy.”
So yeah, I don’t have my hopes up.
Everybody knows the only reason the reactor won was because of the waypoint costs.
No, I voted for Kiel primarily because I wanted to see the Reactor fractal and the chance at totally new lore as opposed to lore where we already know most of what happened. Voting against the NPC representative of the stupid gem store and the lowered waypoint costs were secondary benefits.
However, I definitely agree with you that seeing the Abaddon fractal eventually would be exciting.
It can’t happen. It would defeat the purpose of having us vote in the first place. Sorry but if they’re to stay true to these kinds of permanent changes with living world etc. Then no Abaddon fractal, ever.

I don’t see it that way at all. They had to have crafted some sense of both fractals before putting them up for voting. This means meetings about the lore of the fractals, the layouts, basic possible mechanics, and the tech needed for such a project. All of those resources, primarily because they know that they’ll be on a specific timeline and they need to know what they’re committing themselves to. To almost blindly offer it up without a fair amount of resources already put into it would be foolish.
I saw the vote as deciding which fractal we will get now. The other fractal would find its way in much farther down the road. I think they’ll probably release it late next year.
Didn’t Anet say Evon’s fractal was forever lost for all eternity and that we’ll never see Abbadon ever again in our lifetime?
Well, maybe not to that extent, but that’s what it felt like.
Initially I thought so too. But I’ve since decided that I don’t really want them touching such an old and important piece of lore. Looking at all the ways they have marginalised the gods in GW2 I have a feeling it might have been a let down :/

I really hope they go and do that fractal. the fight with Abbadon cannot be made worse from what it was in GW1. It was the single most anti-climatic fight in the whole game.
It was like the fight with Deathwing in WoW cata but also unchallenging as well as anticlimatic. You did not feel like you were fighting a god, you felt like you were fighting trashmobs with a nice statue in the back.
They said it’s unlikely but possible to see the fractal later. However, seeing the direction this game is going, I’d rather they didn’t try to ruin gw1 for me.

because anet is in charge of staying true to anything (manifesto)
It should not happen.
At least not as a fractal.
They could (and might) add it like a story outside of the game, but adding it to the game would simply invalidate the whole point of the voting, and people would shout about how they lied and doesn’t care about what people wanted and so on.
No defeat of Abbadon at the Old Gods ever you mean…..
There’s no presedence for someone not opening a Realm of Torment Fractal where the villain rescues an alternate Abbadon……
Better yet have alternate Abbadon escape into Tyria and have the world Descend into Madness……
Blood stained Kryta(similar to the Depths of Madness), Ascalon with fleshy ruptures in the ground replacing the canyons, Maguuma Jungle becoming like the Domain of Fear. Abbadon’s Hair sprouting everywhere else and the sun turning as black as it was in the Nightfallen Jahai….
I hope at some point they still make the Abaddon Fractal. I just really want to see it. I’m also excited about the Thaumanova fractal, but GW1 lore just interests me more.
I know this may sound weird coming from such a lore lover like myself, but I hope they never do the Abaddon Fractal.
Face it, as epic as the thoughts behind it is – five gods versus one who’s as strong as two – as a Fractal which are very short, it would be incredibly unsatisfying. You would either be shown just one small part of the war, or you’ll have an entire war condensced into 30 minutes.
And it’s not like it’d be entirely lore accurate. The whole point behind the Fractals is that it’s not completely truthful history – at the very least, our own appearance will alter the events that happen. So we’d never know where accuracies begin, and inaccuracies end.
All we could hope for would be an epic feeling to the fractal, and as they say the audience’s expectations will always be greater than what they receive.
To be perfectly honest, I’d much rather have more novels on the history of Guild Wars published, with one focusing on the fall of Abaddon (not just the final battle, but his years-long descent into evil).
I still cannot believe that ellen won. kitten gw2 community.

i think the descent into evil was after they kicked him out, imprisned him in the mist and erased his existence. Before that it appeared he mostly had differing views on how to deal with humans and their role as gods
Ellen said that she’ll support an important FotM research, the same said Evon. That, imo, means that there are two researches going on, and that the Abaddon one only have less founds and the research is going slower but eventually will get to an end and the fractal will be released.

thats a good point, i hope you’re right

No, she said she would sponsor it if she WON, exactly the same as Evon.
Since Evon didn’t won, he won’t spend any money on it.
yes, she said she would sponsor one research, and he said he would sponsor the other. Meaning that there ARE two different researches going on, one that got the money to go on the other didn’t not got the money. But that does not mean that the one that did not got the money stop the research itself.

If they didn’t, there would be no research. Simple as that.
Racists!
Ellen won just because she is a human female

Scarlet went back in time and used a mind control device to turn Abaddon against the other gods.

Hahahaha, so funny…but, now that i think about it…
This Nightmare, Scarlet…the true villian?
Is it me or have any of you are getting the feeling that Menzies the Mad, also known as the Lord of Destruction is involve pulling the strings on this Scarlet villain? His minions are known as Nightmares… could there be a connection?
In GW1 this God Menzies had a pact with Dhuum and even Abbadon, they help each other to bring ruin to the other Gods, could we be seeing the return of this Fallen Gods in GW2?!
For me it be the perfect climax or ultimate plot for the living world, I mean what race would not want a Trinity of GODs (even if their evil) by their side now that the Dragons are destroying the world, right?
I would LOVE to see this Fallen Gods come back as its a perfect time with all this chaos in Tyria, with the fractals even Abaddon could return! But i also agree that this content should be done with care, this scarlet villain is so weak I would die if they ruin the powerful lore behind this incredible TRUE Villains.

Ngeluz. First. we never had a depiction of Menzies, so that top image is rather disturbing, as I think anet would actually use it. Second, it sounds like dragons are just hard counters to gods, with their magic draining. Third, and this one is completely hearsay, there are rumors we will eventually revisit the fight between menzies and balthazar. but really, i’m not looking forward to anet twisting or ignoring lore so i’m wary about when the gods come back.
I voted for Thaumanova.
As much as I want to see the Abaddon Fractal, I also kind of agree with Konig. They probably would not be able to do it justice… and some of us in the lore community also think less favorable about what the writing team recently has been doing to GW1 lore.

Yeah I figure Menzies, could look something like this seeing his minions and Scarlet’s Twisted offshoots.
Love the hearsay you mention hope it really happens in the future!
as much as I wanted Abaddon fractal, I thin it´d be best to let it go…if they´d do it, it´d be like saying that anything we as a players do or decide in game, it has no meaning, because the devs will do as they please…the voting would not have any weight, it would feel like it was for nothig…just imagine that Ellen would ask Evon to be her co-councillor. that would be just the same thing
The worst part is that the Thaumanova Fractal will involve Scarlet in some way. Think about it.
Steam Creatures belong to Scarlet. What enemies is the reactor known for? Steam creatures.
Thanks a lot, Ellen supporters!
I think Kiel won because Evon was a greedy, wealthy, d!ck.
“captain we found this loot stolen from the people, what do?
Kiel: “protect it and we return it to those it was stolen from”
Evon: “MINE, MINE, MINE, MINE!”
The good guy (girl) won, and the rich kitten didnt gain political power despite using his vast wealth. Its a fantasty afterall.

You know, every time I want to say “you don’t know for sure Scarlet is involved”, I end up losing that bet. I really hope Scarlet is not involved this time around.

Steam creatures were made by the player character asura, in an alternate reality, the reactor blowing up is the believed manner for how they got into this reality. While Scarlet can summon them, they are not her creations.
I would still like to see the Abbadon fractal one day, if only because of this possibility:
5 players.
5 gods.
5 players becoming avatars of the 5 gods to personally battle Abbadon.
I don’t want it to happen. It would be like going back to GW1. And this is GW2. People who loves gw1, go play it. But don’t make gw2 a gw1 2.0.

That’s a pretty cool idea. Instead of revamping the fight from GW1, we could have a fractal which relives his original banishment.
You play as the other 4 gods and fight Abbadon. I doubt he just hanged his hands up and went to his prison because the other 4 gods asked him.
They already have all troubles in the world dealing with the ascalon catacombs transformation and the ascalonian fractal as well… I’d prefer they fix those before we even speak about adding new fractals where you played tranformed.
Pretty sure Steam Creatures are Scarlet’s creations because they use the same technology as the Twisted Clockwork.
Everyone, panic!!!

What if Scarlet actually based her creations off steam creatures? She did taunt the player about the Infinity Ball if you chose that path for your character, so its implied she’s seen your work and probably copied it.
They CATAGORICALY stated that they would NOT do the abbadon fractal EVER.
Sorry folks.

Well they did make it quite clear during the election that the Fractal WOULD be about the original Fall. Not the battle in Nightfall.

Well if we find out whose fault it is we can hunt them down. Would make for an interesting bounty mission.

well maybe if we make enough threads they will see the support for it and consider making it, since they are doing that community feedback thing.

And at the same time they would make it very clear that they don’t give a kitten about what the majority of players vote for.
The voting was not a good idea to begin with. I would really like to see the Abaddon fractal. I can’t understand why any player would object to having both fractals. You want to deny people content they want just for the sake of your vote? Terrible, petty, and selfish behavior. For lore, there’s no reason Ellen can’t research the Abaddon fractal as well.

Well personally I voted for Evon, so I would have preferred the Abaddon fractal as well.
But can’t you imagine the massive amount of outrage we would see here on the forums if ArenaNet suddenly disregarded something that they claimed would decide the future of the game by simply giving us the losing side as well?

Well, those people got their candidate, the WP costs, and the Thaumanova reactor fractal was released first. The future of the game has been affected.
If, after getting all that, they’re still opposed to the Abaddon fractal because of their vote, then they are just awful human beings and should be ignored.
I am opposed to the Abaddon fractal as well. Due to the fact that the voting ended up in favor of the other one.
Why bother voting for stuff in the future if it still won’t really matter in the end?
