Awesome event all around, have really enjoyed the festivities and has renewed my enthusiasm for the game

overall, event is satisfied for me (got one mad king armor! soulbound it ^__^ ) but only if the mad king tower jumping puzzle can be set for solo instance rather than with other players…

also, the free devil horn can’t seem to be obtainable for me… bought with 0 gems, not found anywhere… but i got the Anet cap at the beginning of the game launched… so what’s wrong?

also, i find that costumes purchased from gem stores is only for the current logged in character is really not friendly to players unlike Guild Wars 1 which is an account wide costumes…. sigh

Just some clarifications for you:

1) You do not have to be there right when the event starts to get the achievement. You can log in anytime during the approximately 24 hours it will be up.

2) If you purchased your devil horns they will appear in your mailbox. If it is full (only holds 10 items, alas) your mail will not appear until you clear out the old mail.

3) The costumes purchased from the gem store are not only for the currently logged in character. They are account bound and you can later stick them in your bank and then withdraw them with another character. I have done it and I know it works.

Anet, you guys did a great job on this event. So it had some flaws, and along with those came some unfair and downright vicious complaints. Take the constructive ones, and shrug the rest off. The game’s only been out a couple of months, and I can only imagine how awesome future events will be. Some of the most fun I had was escorting lower level players to higher level zones to get their memoirs. Had some good laughs from that! Anyway, thanks for a wonderful and memorable event! Looking forward to the many yet to come! I hope to play this game for years. Happy Halloween!

Considering how much work you guys put into Halloween alone, this has me doubly-excited for Wintersday and whatever else Holidays you guys will bring back or create.

If you are removing MK dungeon please fix bugged events in Cursed Shore such that I actually have something I can grind.

Been playing MMO’s since Ultima Online, through EQ, EQ2, WoW, LOTRO, Vanguard, Rift and more…. and this is hands down the best holiday event I have seen.

If you can do things like this on a regular basis, then I will be here and buying gems for a long long time! Well done Anet!

Goodbye, Ascent to Madness. I had so much fun grinding the heck out of that place. I got exactly what I needed – 15 fine transmutation stones!!!

I’m also in NJ and without power and internet access due to the hurricane (I’m typing this from a computer at work right now), and would like to echo the concerns over the 24-hour timetable. I’ve absolutely loved the Shadow of the Mad King event and am disheartened at the prospect of missing the grand finale (yes, I know there are far worse things to worry about, but I take my joy where I can get it.) Does Anet have any plans to extend the ending to give those affected by the hurricane a break?

As far as the event goes. Did you manage to do the actual Mad Kings dungeon?
If so, im more then certain you can get the full achievement tab before nov 5th

Also +1 to the event vs other events in the genre.

If this is indicative of what to expect for content updates in terms of timelines and quantity, yipee! That alone is a core need MMO players have been asking for since the start. Only a couple games come anywhere close to timely content and after doing the MMO thing for a while now myself, it becomes dead obvious developing rapid content tools to make timely content after release should be a HUGE part of a mmo’s plan, almost all fail hard here. You would think with the hundreds that have been released, still being released and in planning, almost none seem to consider this important part.

I suppose this is the upside to being too ill to go to a real halloween party tonight since it seems that’s my one and only chance at the event.

24 hours seems like a lot, until you remember that most people also have to fit everything they normally do during a weekday into that, plus they are quite likely to have other things on this evening, what with it being halloween.

I normally have one 3 hour period to play on a week night, but that’s also my total free time for everything else. If I want to see my real life friends that day, go food shopping, spend time with my husband or anything else it means I don’t have time to play GW at all that day, so being told you must be on during one 24 hour period or miss the event completely isn’t really that practical for a lot of people.

Not to mention that little bit of bad weather over on the East Coast of the USA and Canada…

Looks like the only thing that’ll trip me up is the pumpkins. Not sure if I can get all 150 by tomorrow’s reset.

Will we be able to do Monthly achievement after 1th update (eat 150 candies) or it will be replaced by ??? and we have to wait for 15th November?

It’s really unfair for those of us who didn’t have time to do the dungeon to just close it now. I’m so disappointed.

Pretty much my only qualm with the event is that I’ve been on the road and have missed almost the entire thing. As a fanatical Halloween enthusiast, this is quite the letdown :/

But from what I can see, this event is amazing. I just wish it didn’t have to end so soon after! I’d be cool with like… the 5th maybe?

I’d like to thank you personally for an outstanding event and to thank you for MnKy Guild as well. I’ve played Guildwars since about 6 months after the release and I was very disgusted by the choice to delete my favored class from the game. I almost didn’t buy Guildwars 2 because of that and some very negative comments from the developers in interviews concerning that decision, ie: “being FORCED to heal.” I have to say now that I would have missed out on a great game. I enjoyed the event content in GW1 and had high expectations for the event in GW2. You guys took those expectations and blew them away totally. The amount of planning and work that had to have gone into this event is seriously phenomenal and I hope you continue. I missed getting the costumes and things for this event from the gem store, but I will be getting gems in the future as a thank you for the time effort and work you put into the game design. Thank you again from myself and my guild!!!

I’ve been playing MMOs since EQ launched and I have to say this has been one of, if not the best, event I’ve had the pleasure to participate in.

Well I have to say. I’ve found the event exceptionally boring to the point that I’ve only attempted to get the storybook Back item.

I loved the artwork and everything done with Lions arch, I just wish I didn’t have to always be running through it to get anywhere and enduring a 3 – 5 min loadscreen to goto one cap city to another.

The History of the mad king / Back item quest really bored me, I expected a “Mad king” not a steriotypical saturday-morning-kids-cartoon crazy, the quests as well were really annoying to do, since I’ve been casually playing since the 3 day headstart I’ve only got a lvl 36 and I was frustraited to high heaven trying to get through sparkfly fen and Harathi Highlands. I thought this was one of the reasons high-level characters were downgraded, so events could take place for lower levels?

So between that and the stupid EU starting times for the Acts, it’s been an inconsistant mess to me, feels horribly rushed with crap skins and obvious money making Black Lion Chests ( It was one of the main reasons I left Star Trek Online. )

I do Sincerely hope that the future events are alot better, concidering how soon this event was to the release of the game. As I mentioned, it felt rushed and I personally felt no drive to attend anything the event had on because of the way the event was set up, especially with a “low-level” character.

Thoroughly dissapointed this year but keep up the good work on the rest of the game. Definitly liking that so far!

They said they are not extending the event, because they have stuff happening in November that starts with the patch tomorrow.

At least with the party achievement, just zone in to LA and hit the trader’s forum.

“Ascent to Madness” was closed with the start of Act 4. If you have not already fought the Mad King, you cannot anymore (for this year, at least).

Because it doesn’t make sense to celebrate the defeat of the mad king and his prevention from returning to Tyria if the portal is still open and you are fighting him.

My overall opinion: Act 1, pure crap; a simple quest with mob grind. Act 2, really nice; a whole new area to grind, two PvP matches (would love to see those modes hit SPvP permanently), and a challenging but not improbable jumping puzzle. Act 3, just alright; an instanced fight against Mad King Thorn, could have been better, he was easily soloable and overly farmed. Act 4, pure crap; see the above spoiler, seriously, that’s it, lamest party ever. I loved the dialog and scenery, was a little upset about “nerfs” but overall I enjoyed myself.

Iv’e been doing the MMO scene since i was about 12 (turning 22 in January) and nothing has been more exciting as a holiday than your “Mad King”. I actually WANT to do these little events and games! Awesome Job! This holiday season will be most enjoyable for the players.

A number of us never got to try the dungeon due to work and other commitments, will there be another opportunity to play it? and complete the achievement?

I will echo Tenacious Dean: My work schedule limited my ability to get to the dungeon, so I cannot finish the achievements. Are these same ones what will be available next year so it doesn’t matter if you get them now or then?

Thanks for an amazing event. Personally, I have no complaints. Others are saying they’re having problems with doors: guys, sometimes the doors disappear for a short time; keep checking the areas. 90% of the time when I zoned into Queensdale there were doors everywhere. I also loved how the events were spaced out, with the chapters being released every few days. There was enough variety that I never got bored. And I’m not a PvPer, but I even spent a few hours checking out the fun PvP games! Thanks again, and I can’t wait to see what you guys have in store for Christmas!

I’m quite disappointed the dungeon is gone with so little warning. I’ve had a bunch of teaser emails during the event, but not one that I can find that mentioned the dungeon was being removed with the start of Act 4. I’m a casual player, and had expected the content to stay in place until the end of the whole event, as it appears every other part of the event has!

I think you should consider your communication strategy. I feel like I need to monitor Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, emails, your teaser pages, and the official forum to have any chance of not missing information. I simply don’t have time, nor do I wish to sift through all the other players various comments just to find the few official items buried amongst the general social meanderings of your fans. Please can we have ONE place to get all the information.

Great event. There was actually so much Halloween specific stuff going on that I haven’t even been able to do it all. Labyrinth was great – a new zone for all levels with good enough rewards that most all of my playtime has been spent in there.

Mad King dungeon was fun, and his voice actor is great.

I cant complete the mad kings world achievement.

Its stuck at 3/4 now, because the dungeon is closed.

All in all, this was a fantastic event and I’m glad I got to participate to the level I did.

Thank You ANet for a fun event! I loved how events just flowed and was no need to log out. Just stood in LA @ Grand Piazza and bam I get a cut scene of the Mad King trying to escape. Flawless. Excellent job ANet!

Same problem here. I only ever got the one in Queensdale to open the doors, now nothing is triggering.
Any advice on this?
