Lets Redesign Queen Jennah.
I thought she was a queen not a stripper.
Fabulous? You call that fabulous!? She looks like a prostitute!
Queen Jennah is a hot mess.
She’s Not wearing any shoes and her dress is a bit.. boring.

Logan stole her shoes!
Make Countess Anise the Queen.
Okay I’m done. That’s all I need.
Needs to show more skin, keep the cutscenes interesting.
What kind of queen wears purple shoes with that outfit?!

Jennah is mostly fine as she is. She just needs some shoes. I know I wouldn’t take her seriously if she looked like what you propose.
Sicne she’s a Krytan and not an Ascalonian, she should have dark skin, like a person of Half-African / Half-Caucaisn descent. Otherwise the existing model for her is fine.
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.
Uhm… she already HAS dark skin, so not sure what you are getting at.
Her skin’s pretty pale on my screen. Attachment below.
Maybe I’ve got a graphical glitch or something, because on my screen, I get her showing up as an Ascalonian with what is basically northern European pale skin, not the African-mix of a Krytan.
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.
Nah, that’s just the lighting. She’s got the caramel skin, it seems.

Yep, and it’s pretty much the same skin tone as Queen Salma (Jennah’s ancestor in GW1). That said, most Krytans in GW1 had darker skin than Salma and Jennah, but that may be a result of the Doric bloodline.
Sadly most Krytans in GW2 look like Ascalonians, with the light Northern European skin tones. I’m glad that at least Jennah has the right skintone for her ancestry.
Here’s a Krytan:
Next to my Elonan monk for contrast.
And the second shot is another Jennah, looking as Caucasian as Britain’s Queen Mother.

Well, Queen Salma in GW1 had light brown skin herself, and Jennah is her descendant, so it makes sense she has a lighter skin tone than most GW1 Krytans. Though Salma’s difference in skin tone compared to Krytan citizens was never explained, I could imagine it might be the blood of King Doric in her ancestry.
But there’s definitely a disconnect with your typical GW1 Krytan and your typical GW2 Krytan. Sure, there’s probably been a lot of mingling with Ascalonian refugees, but that should mean most Krytans have a light brown skintone and more ‘mixed race’ looks, not the predominantly Northern European looks most Krytans have in GW2. The Ascalonians were refugees in Kryta, not the other way around, so their features should not be dominant as they are in GW2.
As for the original post, I think Jennah’s style of dress is just fine. It’s elegant but not flashy, seems appropriate for a queen who is more favored by common folk than the nobility.

The races(Norn, Asura, etc.) form the cultural distinctions in GW2, not the various human cultures. ANet doesn’t really care all that much for GW1 prerogatives concerning the various characteristics of the human kingdoms in Tyria. They made all humans “northern European” because apparently they think it’s a nice neutral base color.
I troll because I care
The lighting is really what does it, Kichwas, and while the Krytans in Guild Wars Prophecies generally were of a darker skintone than the Ascalonians, they were never as dark-skinned as the people of Elona. Try to take a look through this list of images of Krytan NPCs in Guild Wars and then look at this image Queen Jennah. Better yet, try and compare Jennah’s ancestor Salma and her :P

……that is honestly the ugliest armor combo I have ever seen.

That top makes me think of those pastry racks with lacey paper thingies under so it looks “pretty”. Cheap, is another word. Gaudy.
The only redesign I would have of Jennah is that she gets a really unique dress – something similar to what she has now, but unique enough to b hers alone. I mean, that norn with the stupidest hair has a unique armour, why can’t our Queen have that?
We could just let Countess Anise teach her fellow Mesmer about fashion. It could work.

I thought she was a queen not a stripper.
Why can’t she be both? Personally I believe she is still wearing too much and as a Queen she should be representing the majority players with human female characters. She also needs some underboob.
She just needs a new voice, she sounds too much like my female Sylvari, who I like much, much more.

Same voice-actress: Jennifer Hale, who did Bastila in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Honestly, I half expect her to shout “The Force fights with me!” whenever I meet her.

It could be worse. Considering some of Jennifer Hale’s other roles, I keep waiting for Jenna to go Dark Phoenix on some poor slob.

My main problems with Queen Jennah are the same 2 everyone else talks about. She has no shoes, and that hair. That hair is a nightmare, she needs the fancy up-do with the bun & tiara thingy if they’re gonna use one everyone can use. The outfit is okay but I’d rather it seem a little bit more Victorian. She’s also huge, so there’s that.
But on the topic of skin color, Krytan’s are supposed to be Mediterranean-like, right? So her skin tone is appropriate.
So…Shoes, dat hair, and her giganticness.
On terms of skin tone…
The ‘default’ Krytan skin tone in GW1 was quite dark, but if you browse through the GW1 models, there are a number of paler skin tones even among generic NPCs – the White Mantle Savants and Shining Blade archers are good examples. My personal theory is that while it wasn’t shown in-game, Krytan skin tones likely lightened as you headed further north, away from the tropical coast – and it’s the southern provinces that were wiped out by Zhaitan’s rise, meaning that the survivors likely had a higher proportion of lighter-skinned people. Combine that with interbreeding with Ascalonians and Canthans (albeit with some counterbalancing with Elonians) and it’s actually not surprising that skin tones have lightened.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
I hate to say this, but… I hated Queen Jennah the moment I saw her. She appeared very not-a-nice-word to me. I don’t know why. I would like to give Logan a few strong hits in his head.
As for her apperance, mah. I think only Logan sees her “as the most beautiful woman in the world”. She’s… not pretty to me.

You also need to account for the classes of Krytan culture back in the day. The standard Krytan man/woman we saw (with very dark skin) would have worked outside a lot, where the white mantle were more privileged. It’s one of the reasons why pale skin was thought to be so beautiful hundreds of years ago. It was something that most commoners didn’t have.
I’m still hoping they change that hair. it’s literally really horrible for a Queen lol. Every time I see her it makes me laugh at her.
I’m pretty apathetic about her design. Don’t care, but I don’t understand why people are complaining.
She does look pretty though.

Cause she’s supposed to be a central character in the over all story and she looks like a trainwreck. Messy hair & no shoes….for the Queen??? o_o

1. I didn’t even notice she’s not wearing shoes until someone pointed it out on the forums lol.
2. Her hair isn’t messy at all. Actually it fits her. She looks pretty like that, and still noble.
3. Her skintone is dark enough. Seriously; especially on that screenshot with Caudecus (I think) that was supposed to prove the opposite xD. Just look at the difference between them. If you call Jennah pale, then Caudecus is transparent.
Make Countess Anise the Queen.
Okay I’m done. That’s all I need.
THANK YOU!!!! So i’m not the only one who thinks so…
Frankly, I’ve always hated the Mary Sue-ness of the Queen, Anise at least takes the duty-bound, hard chick role and she and Logan already have a strong report. We could make it so that the queen is an illusion Anise cast, and it’s really anise that is casting all the illusions. Or vice versa, and it’s really queen jennah who is anise…just something different in their characterizations, because frankly the humans characterizations have been very boring so far. Really, I’ve only come close to actually liking Anise or Lord Faren (and that’s just cause Faren is hilarious) and even then, I feel slight affection towards them currently. Just a real lack of character complexities, all the characters feel very one dimensional.
I agree that she needs shoes and could use a more elegant hairstyle. Other than that, she’s fine to me. At first I thought she was too bright-eyed and bushy tailed to be a good ruler. Then I saw her interactions with Caudecus and Logan at the end of the second story dungeon. She’s very manipulative but has a way of appearing whole-heartedly honest with her intentions. She truly is a mesmer.
I’m pretty sure they’ve been going for the “very young, probably naive Queen” like in Star Wars or something. Not the mature, hardened type of Queen and honestly I like her personality as it is. They want to keep her different from Salma who was the hardened type, this is a Queen that ascended to the throne by inheritance at a very young age, many generations since Salma was placed on it, so it’s not like she’s going to have been in the same situation to become overly hardened. But you don’t really get a very strong indication of her personality without having read the books & stuff that takes place before this game starts which is the mistake they are making with her & many other characters. I really hope that Queen Jennah, Countess Anise, and all the other leaders of each race take a much bigger role in the future because they have the potential to be really phenomenal…And everyone loves a good Queen character.
On the subject of her looks….Her hair really is a mess, it’s going in two different directions and looks like she just rolled out of bed. I have NO idea why they didn’t use the fancy tiara & bun hairstyle, that looks like a Queen’s hairstyle. She needs to be fancier. Her skin tone is fine, she’s supposed to look this way. She’s not supposed to be very dark, she’s Krytan not Elonian. Salma was just a tiny bit darker than her but also had reddish hair lol, and it’s been many generations, and Kryta has been the primary home for most Tyrian humans since Cantha & Elona are currently isolated, or at least have been for most of this time, but now that Zhaitan is dead who knows what will happen. But this means Ascalonian’s gravitated there, Canthan’s who got out of Cantha have gravitated there, etc…There’s a good chance all these generations of mixing cultures would have at some point reached the Royal family so she shouldn’t look exactly like the “Krytans” that were running around 250+ years ago, given the circumstances.

As long as she still keeps doing this (see picture) when someone comes inside the throneroom and doesn’t look like the best lady of some pimp I am okay if she would ever change her clothes and character. I don’t dislike her now though. She’s fine as it is.
Jennah is mostly fine as she is. She just needs some shoes.
It’s her party and she’ll go barefoot if she wants to…
… I’d be barefoot if I was a queen.

(fistbump/hi-5/whatever)
When I first played and saw Anise I thought “Yeah she’s a nice looking queen—-oh it is the gal in the center? Huh, well she has a cute cat and nice eyes.”
Anise just has that voice I wanted in a human Queen.
Plus redheads rule, but that’s a minor point.
Ya when I saw the Queen first thing I noticed was I expected her to have different hair and to me it didn’t fit. Her skin tone is perfect imo, ive always seen Kryta as a Portual/Spain area, we can get pretty dark as well as have lighter tones. Those areas made sense to me because the farther south you go the more dark the tones get and you start approaching Africa, which explains the more common Krytan npc look in gw1. I didn’t mind Jennah’s dress though, It could be better but it looks fine.

And you’d be correct about that. Kryta is inspired by the Mediterranean so Spain, France, Austria albeit it is important to note that those regions have lot’s of dark haired but light skinned people, but they do also have lot’s of very tan skinned people as well…. But yeah, her hair is terrible…I really just have to keep voicing this opinion LOL…
I’m ok with her dress, I was hoping it might be a little more opulent but it’s pretty enough. Hair, though? It needs to change.

I think you mean Italy. Austria doesn’t even have a coast. Neither does it have krytan-looking natives. ^^
Portugal, Spain, maybe southern France, Italy… Greece too maybe.

When I listed Austria I wasn’t talking about the aesthetic of the people, but the architectural inspirations of some of the buildings you see in Divinity’s Reach, particularly some of the interiors. I was grouping it in with the rest, though. But yeah.
