I really hope that Devs will think through what has been written in this thread.
In opinion of many game took wrong direction and out of the blue!
Betweem bigger updates these 2-week ones should not change how the game is played.

If I assume that Devs knew precisely how will it turn out and gave this patch to just quickly give ppl some cheap entertainment then I am disappointed. Very.
You just have to farm because you know that either situation will be nerfed or will end the best way to not only gain gold now but also A LOT of materials of highest tiers. Guesting IMO affects a lot performance of the host server decreasing quality of play for everyone there.

Please be careful with updates because this game took a hard hit. I don’t know if it can withstand another one.

not a guild wars veteran, someone recommended gw2
so i’ve been here since early start.. love ArenaNet’s un-balance patches..
thought the overall basis for this game was kinda dorky, but i gave it breathing room. eventually, liked my character, kinda wanted to get into it.. sadly though, i agree with the OpeningPost.. Anet seems to think one wrong turn deserves another, deserves another, etc.. until this game becomes an abysmal downward spiral.. i was considering a gw1 account, and i’m a bit of a norn fan.. but, because of gw2 shortcomings, i decided to pass.. so that is a 40$ loss on their part right there

the only living world i remember are mad king and dragon bash.. it seemed “real”
yeah, adventure box had a neat 8-bit theme song and xmas had fun things {i mostly disregard it though, because xmas is xmas} erm wintersday.. aside from that, what do we get? sci fi channel crab attacks? annoying election? and now Drool On My Keyboard gauntlet arena.. also, let me thow in zephyr sanctum was mildly interesting, and aetherblade pirates are just dumb and someone needs to put a potato in their exhaust…

Anyway, i’m just being hypercritical.. but, the point is there have been some good things and some Really, Really bad things. Like, squandered potential bad.. So, i completely agree with the opening post… I really wanted to delve into Guild Wars, but as it stands

oh, and here is {after playing 2400+ hours of gw2} my very own depiction of tyria

i still consider this update better than what happened from secret of southsun so far. but not involving as flame and frost.
and it was not for the dungeon, it was because of the story actually.
i know there is still story but it became background. in the personal instance of this last update i could just watch instead of trying to kill aetherblades and the instance was going on his own. my presence was irrelevant (it was like final fantasy xii all over again, i had to just move from one spot to another to see what was happening).

although i read an interview that makes my hopes raise a little, i guess we wait and see. also my opinion is a little biased because i’m probably burnout of the game in need of a break (when i log i found myself wondering what the hell do i do? than i look at daily and i sigh because i cannot bear them any longer) and if i hadn’t a stupid mac i would try something else just to have a break.

although this game for me is still shining in his core mechanics, i mean even if i wish toughness, vitality, healing and condition damage would be more meaningful, i still love the absence of role, the lore, how they handled cooperation in open world with other players (personal nodes and no kill stealing is a blast and you can’t go back from this)…
the only thing that stall me is i have no freedom to change my build as fast and cheap as i could change my panties… changing builds without changing gear feels an handicap and using celestial for sake of changing build is like you are not changing it at all…

but i wait, the upcoming updates sound promising… new skills, new weapons, new armors… something new to do maybe not in the same small area and far from queensdale

IMO, they really should stop cranking living story events every few weeks and just save that type of content for special events like Xmas & Halloween.. etc.. I think they’d be much better off tying in these living story events into the holiday events instead so they can be considered truly unique.

It almost feels like I’m getting burned out on temporary content aside from the permanent content and I havn’t even played in nearly 2 weeks. By the time say halloween comes around, it no longer feels unique.

Sure I don’t have to take part in all the Living Story content (and believe me I don’t); but when their developer resources are better spent elsewhere in areas of their game that are in need (like WvW), it can leave a sour taste in people’s mouths. Then, as others have mentioned, they get ticked off and leave.

We all know why they do it; the all mighty dollar, with every event brings more things in the gem store to be purchased. Perhaps a clever idea except they seem to forget that they need people to actually purchase these things. If people like me who have bought oodles of gems, finally wash their hands of handing over money, their clever plan not only fails, but they’ve also lost their customer base.

Some 40 or so permanent events were added around the game in our very first content update. They were met with little interest or fanfare.

I think the error was in expecting “fanfare”. You created a game that you wanted to be alive, but to make zones feel real & alive would take years of constant DE additions. Why would you expect 1 release of 40 DEs to be significant? I honestly want to know.
I’m not saying it’s not a lot of work, but you’d have to double the number of total events in the game to help make DEs feel Dynamic like they were originally billed. I feel that you attempted 5% of the project then labeled it unsuccessful.

At the absolute very least, you should be constantly adding new branches into the most popular DEs in the game. things like the temples should have at least 4 ways of playing out. The Dragons need to be totally redone with movement & phases, more strategy, unique weapon/armor skins.

I feel like the team totally underestimated how Many DEs it would take to make a world that feels living & over estimated how the LS would make things feel living. I think DEs are the way to go, but they need an overall more cohesive movement. I like the idea of invasions, but the incorporation of it was so cheap. I feel like GW2 would benefit hugely from cribbing the Rifts invasion system.

In the end I feel like the primary reasoning from not going the DE route is just “too much effort for too little return”
