My experience doing the Queen’s Gauntlet this week has degraded.

In the beginning, there was that old camaraderie – people reviving one another, sharing verbal frustration about bosses, and then joy when finally beating the one they’d been stuck on.

Now, however – today in particular, and this overflow I’m in being filled at every station – there is an abundance of Deadeye Dunwell farmers. That in itself doesn’t bother me… What bothers me is that these people generally will not revive me after I lose a match because they want the dome all to themselves. I even had a few tell me to shut up when I asked politely for a revive.

So if I want to keep going with the Queen’s Gauntlet, that leaves me wasting time trying to find an overflow without farmers so that I’m not wasting money on repair bills AND waypoint costs because my corpse just sits there waiting for another chance.

Perhaps a simple res-upon-defeat would fix this? Is anyone else experiencing this? I’m supremely frustrated.

It seems that there is a large number of achievement hunters, like myself, that have finished their activities regarding the pavilion and gauntlet. I farmed for a bit and always chose to be polite and resurrect people at my dome and domes around me. I fear most of the players still there are the extremely serious farming players.

Yep, it’s pretty bad. Good thing I have two accounts and parked a toon from my other one in front to rez myself. Anet were fools for making that long run like that. Should have had a WP or let the NPCs rez players like some do in WvW.

Best thing to do is to find a dome with people that aren’t farming and just wait your turn and rez each other.

If you care that much about 1 silver 11 copper, and 40 second of your time. Maybe those farmer care about theirs too.

If on the other hand, you are frustrated because it degrade the community, or social experience in a mmorpg, that is another topic.

The truth is if you are really genuine, you’ll just rez by wp, since saving yourself time means wasting other people’s time.

I always wp even if someone try to rez me, and believe me I died alot in liadri. Since they are so nice to rez me. Why should I waste their time to save mine.

It’s about the mechanic of the whole thing, Iaokoko. My post was not to launch an attack on DED farmers. The event was supposed to work a certain way – this one being pretty dependent on other people to get you back up if you lose a match; the repair bill being a minor gold sink – and circumstances arose that added in some additional factors – DED farming and a lesser crowd at the domes.

My gaming experience is just as important as the farmers. I’m not saying that anyone should stop farming – as I said in the original post, I’m fine with that. What I’m not fine with is (aside from some of the rudeness I’ve experienced) that this new circumstance is making the initial mechanic difficult.

You lose a fight… you are downed. You are depending on someone else to res you and you take an armor hit. If no one is around/willing to res you, you waypoint back and have to repair your armor, then have to spend time running all the way back up to the dome. Every time. That is incredibly frustrating and not overly worth it – something that is disheartening for an achievement hunter.

I’m simply not sure this was an anticipated thing for this event.

If I see Dead Eye in a dome I keep moving. (This sadly has more to do with not wanting to get involved with jerks than being considerate of others’ farming.) Your best bet is to find people still working on Liadri or basically any other boss since that usually means they’re probably working through the tiers and/or achievements.

I try to find at least 2 people at a dome since 3 is typically the perfect number so someone’s in and someone’s out to revive. They’ll usually appreciate that, otherwise (if you’re a really nice person) you’ll have to wait to res them before you queue yourself.

Having said that, I was in a dome group yesterday with a Dead Eye farmer who had no issue waiting between 4 of us trying for various achievements before he got his runs in, so there are cool people, but I’ve run into more people that aren’t unfortunately.

The whole system is flawed and I can’t believe a lot of this wasn’t addressed prior to release, but it is what it is. Hopefully next time it’ll be better.

This events goes against many of the fundamental things Anet said. For one, the game is for all to play at any level. That’s not true. Some of these are NOT for the average or casual gamer. These events lean towards the top p[layers and cuts out the larger majority of people. Additionally, the attitude of those farming Dead-Eye… well, again, something (I am VERY sure was NOT intentionally) designed to benefit some players.

Again, I am sure this was not an intentional design. However, I would strongly encourage Anet to INTENTIONALLY design towards the average gamer. At least, to achieve the minimum. Create additional challenges for those who would like to take those. Right now however, people are being denied, and because of nerfing, a shift (at least in my guild) is towards getting it all done on release “before they nerf it” has sprout up.

The entire guantlet section of this event has been buggy and shows heavy signs of being rushed or improperly implemented. The NPC’s reviving dead players would be simple and easy to make. They already do this in some zones of the game why not here where its incredibly frustrating and difficult. This isn’t even mentioning the other issues such as tickets not working and the some skills not acting properly. Over all this could have been a very fun and engaging event with a good amount of challenge and skill involved, but there are so many things that detract from that experience and leave me disenchanted and hollow. If the content was better tested instead of being shipped after only a small fraction of the testers managed to complete the content, then the over experience of all these living story events would be better off. I’d say the negativity of this is just as much the dev’s fault as it is the player base.

And to anyone defending other players for not rezzing, wth, GW2 has ALWAYS made interactive play their priority… We are just highlighting how this event has made people farm crazy and turned them into rude greedy pigs, and it sucks.

I usually try and find a dome with a good number of people. Because usually since the deadeye farmers dont revive, the people actually doing the bosses group together.

Though it’s just excesive that we had to use the WP and repair our armor, i’m fine with one of them, but both is just adding insult to injury. Taking the long walk of shame back up to the ring, repair your armor, to die and have to do it over again.

Tips: if you want to beat a hard boss, try to search a dome with crowd of people. They usually will res you and they usually have a same problem.

As for me, I will res anyone who died due to gauntlet except: that people does not want to res other people and that people comes from nowhere, queue-ing the dome directly without take a time to help res people.

If you don’t get revived then you lose 2 silver and 40s of your time.

If the farmer revives you they lose 2-3 minutes of their time and up to 2 gold in profits.

Conclusion: the world does not revolve around you, so off with your QQ and start running. If you did not want to have to do this, then you should have done what the farmer did: finish fast and not die.

Are you guys giving serious advice? Why would anyone purposely go to crowded dome just to save 2.67 silver per death.

Instead of waiting 5 minutes in a crowded dome, take those 5 minutes to farm some gold. That’ll pay for a bunch of repair bill.

5 minutes can make you 1.50 gold from gauntlet farming. Enough money for 56 death.

5 minutes can make you 58 silver from pavillion or frost gauge sound. Enough money for 21 death.

5 minutes can make you 83 silver from ember farming. Enough for 31 death.

Or just go to orr or frostgauge, and kill “any” monster. In 5 minutes you make enough money for 6+ death.

Why not just do a easy cof run which takes like 10-15 minutes and you can make 1.6+ gold which is enough to pay for 60 death.

The truth? You guys are too stingy. It’s only 1.11 silver for wp and 1.56 for repair bill. Don’t tell me you would rather wait in a long gauntlet queue just to save 2.67 silver.

Here’s the principle I go by: always go for the smallest possible sacrifice. Which is why I do not revive anyone while I’m farming and why I have no problem whatsoever moving on to a different arena if my previous one gets crowded.

  • 1 silver 11 copper for WP

What I lose if I rez you and you queue up while I’m picking gambits:

  • 2-3 minutes of waiting

Who is more selfish?

If you want to do a hard boss party up with other people doing bosses and rez each other. You’re just hurting yourself with your selfishness by trying to take over a farmer dome anyway. When I was trying to kill Liadri what I did was find another person doing Liadri and we just took turns attempting the boss and rezzing each other. This deters farmers because any farmer that tried to take our dome would come out of it looking at a queue of 5+ minutes with both of us doing a Liadri attempt before them so they would go away. This also sped things up greatly for both of us. Another benefit of this was that we were exchanging strategies for the fight helping each other even more.

I think what happened here is that DED farmers took my post personally. This isn’t about achievement hunters vs. DED farmers and whose time is more valuable and who saves what… My post is about the flawed mechanics of this event wasting time. It’s not about people being selfish (rude is another story), it’s about the game’s mechanics wasting people’s time and money because of a change in the use of this event that was not anticipated.

I am a casual player. I don’t have time to sit around and farm money to make the double hit of repairs/waypoint null. I am not so awesome a player that I can just beat Liadri in one go – If you want to laugh at me and call me selfish concerning my time because my family and job make it so that I can’t play as much, have much less gold than the average player, and have to really research to follow some of the guides… but actually want to put forth the effort, then go ahead. (Please also note I am not calling for a nerf of this event – I want to work to beat it.) It’s just I am a different player demographic than those of you who are telling me I’m selfish and that I should just use my time to farm gold. That isn’t fun for me and I don’t want to do it. Try to look beyond yourself and think of people who have a different gamer-life than you.

So, again, let me be clear: I did not make my post to show how selfish DED farmers are. Go ahead and farm and make money – that’s great! My post is to show that the way this event works ends up wasting time and gold that I do not believe was originally intended. Ideally, I would like for no one’s time to be “wasted” and have the NPC res, or have a res-on-defeat-with-armor-damage.

Excellent idea. Heck I’ve spent my money to res and then went right back to the same dome just to waste the farmer’s time. The coin isn’t worth that much to me but if the inconsiderate farmers don’t feel they can take 30-45 seconds to res somebody, I’ll waste a full minute of their time. Now do the math on the ROI for the farmer’s time… Is that a sound enough argument? Need to beware the golden rule, sometimes people treat you the way you treat them.

All the rest of us ask for is a simple res and to share the dome.

Personally, I think ANet should just have all players rezzed once they leave the dome. Go ahead and keep the armor damage as there should be a price for failing, I’ve got no problem with that.

What I don’t understand is that there are usually 2-3 people just standing around while a person or two are lying dead on the floor. Its obvious there is someone in the arena, but those waiting still don’t res. So no time is being lost to be nice to res folks. Your not losing anything because the arena your waiting at has someone already in it and you’ve decided to wait already.

We all have the same rights when it comes to who gets to enter the arena. That is, those of us that are alive. The dead have no rights – they are dead and they belong with the dead. If you want to enter the arena, then don’t die. Simple. Your time and enjoyment are no more important than other people’s time and enjoyment, so don’t expect anyone to go out of their way to help you just because you think you’re a unique snowflake… And if you want to QQ go do it at ArenaNet who designed this awful system in the first place…

I think my point is getting missed and run off with. Again, my post was to focus on how it would be awesome to take the res’ing out of the hands of players altogether to save everyone the headache because it seems circumstance changed the intended mechanic of this part of the event.

Really didn’t intend for this to become a giant bitter flame war about whose time and gold is more important and who’s lazy and whose a horrible player and who has rights and who should be expected to help who.

To sum up: The event was supposed to work one way, and for a while it did. Other factors happened and now that way doesn’t work as I’m pretty sure it was intended. It is my belief this can be fixed by an alternate way to res right outside the dome for smooth continuation of gameplay, minimizing the penalty cost and allowing everyone to continue farming gold or pursuing achieves/swearing at Liadri and having fun in their own preferred way.

That being said, I’m curious how ANet feels about the callous abandonment of the sense of community they strive to create, because wow. Some of these responses have been pretty scathing and self-important.

Just farm the 1st champion over and over. That’s what I did when someone made such a fuss about it.

Would limiting the reward to once per “day” remove the incentive to repeatedly load up on the gambits and farm the guys over and over and over again?

Bottom line is… I know I’m not “hard core”.

I don’t understand all the little aspects of how all the skills work together as a full system, so I’m having a really hard time with Liadri.

I just want to kill her 1 time…

I don’t want to farm Liadri or any of them.

I have tried and failed far too many times to just give up because people are blinded by the money.

Games are good for showing the true character of a human being. A lot you will see aren’t very good at all. They have little to fear for their actions in a game.

Release and head back to the dome, pick an easy-ish boss you know you can handle. Drag the fight out for as long as you can. Your coin loss will be less than the farmers. Laugh.

I’ve done this once. The inconvenience to me was worth it to not reward the farmer’s behavior.

Having said that, I was frustrated because I’d been overflow hopping trying to find less occupied domes so that I could start the gauntlet for the first time without being watched. I thought that was a horrible idea from the start. Some of us don’t want our failures displayed in a fishbowl for every passerby to see. :P I finally found one and the first time I died a farmer took it as his queue to take over the dome.

I spent probably the next half hour going back to that same dome, continuing what I was doing, and disrupting his flow as much as possible. Someone nice showed up and we began resing each other before re-queuing, which finally got the farmer to leave.

I actually find it more amusing when people fall to their deaths as they attempt to disrupt my farm

Its so brilliant because if they fall you cant res them.

Ive seen some pretty rude lazy people who wont waypoint, i usually res people a couple times before moving to a different dome.

But i like to grab my 4 gambits again which takes 4 seconds then run over to res. In that time almost everyone whos waiting for a res flips out and rages going RES???? kitten you. So then i just jump around their corpse.
