If I were to hazard a guess, I would say they’re probably rigging the wallet to use the current Bank assets. So the Bank itself will no longer be able to exist, because the Bank is basically going to be turned into the Wallet and made to automatically receive and store all gold from the account.

They can’t keep the Bank and add completely new assets to the game for the Wallet because they don’t want to tamper with the core of the game and risk causing major issues.

Don’t know how accurate my assumptions are. Probably not very, given my lack of programming experience. But the main point being if they say they can’t do it, then there’s surely a reason for it.

Imo they should announce major changes before they’re a week out of implementing them to get a solid feedback of the concerns raised and have plenty of time to do a rework before it hits the servers.

I’m sure Anet has thought of this, but what about recipes such as the eternal flame, and mystic forge recipes that use fractal relics? will there be purchasable item versions of tokens we’ll buy for 1 token each in merchant? or will these recipes become moot?

You seem to be greatly overvaluing the influence the vocal few have over matters of game development. You think users have veto power over what gets implemented? You’ve lost your mind. ANet would be bankrupt in six months (exaggeration).

Developers are people, and like anyone else, the first thing they do when they see a post is ask “do I agree with this or is this a valid concern?” You can plant ideas in their heads, but it’s up to them to decide if your opinion is worth consideration.

A change like this will appeal to most players. Of those it doesn’t, most will forget about it in a month. New users will not notice anything at all. All said and done, whether this breaks your personal workflow or not, a change is unlikely and undeserved. Your opinion has no doubt been heard, no more arguing is needed.

To answer this (and every other “I don’t see why they can’t change it in X way”) concern: Because it is, quite simply, impossible.

I’m not a programmer, and I’m certainly not privy to the development of the game, but this feature has to have been in the works for weeks if not months. They are COMPLETELY overhauling the system used for currencies. I don’t even want to THINK about how much code was involved in doing that, but it’s a LOT. To change any part of it, plus testing it to work out the bugs, would take many MORE weeks of delaying the system’s implementation (if it could even be extricated from the rest of the update, which is by no means assured). A system which, I might remind you, is a strict upgrade to the vast majority of players.

While I agree that having the personal bank remain would have been good for safety reasons, from a development standpoint, it’s redundant, so I can see why it’s removed. Could they bring it back? Yes, but doing so would take a lot of man-hours, and in the end, it wouldn’t benefit most players greatly.

This is doubly applicable for those who want to keep each character’s gold separate. I can sympathize with this desire, even though I’ve given up that pursuit myself in this game, for various reasons. However, adding back in an option to keep wealth separate would not only require completely reworking the entire currency system—again—but it would do so for a feature that would only be used by a tiny minority of players who want to make the game more challenging for themselves.

I know it doesn’t really help anyone who thinks it “should” have been done a particular way that works better for them, but any changes to fix the minor shortcomings of the new (and vastly improved) system will probably be a long time coming, if they ever decide they’re worth adding at all.

I just wanted to put myself squarely in the “thank you” camp on this one.

Especially for the shared Karma. Now I can finally use all those Karma jugs without worrying about which character needs the most Karma. Woo hoo!

- my two dungeon tokens bank tabs can now be put to better use,
- no more major city trip to offload my wallet / tokens / karma jugs,
- account wide karma !

On a side note, how can anyone complaint about this huge improvement ?

Care to give us a reason why gold shouldn’t be included? Because I can’t see a good reason not to include it, but lots of reasons to include it.

Shared gold means no more running to the bank to deposit it, means you can waypoint/repair whenever you want, means you can buy anything you want from the vendors and the tp, means you can put items for sale on the tp anytime you want and all that without the need to go to the bank to withdraw gold.

I don’t see any reason why they should keep gold separate on characters.

You really had 40 stacks of badges (10k)?!

I don’t understand the sad face. What are you saving the badges for? Spend them on seige stuff if you do a lot of WvW or spend them on exotic weapons/armor if one of your toons is lacking. I personally bought the gift of battle, and then 2 exotic pistols which I then re-skinned with the celestial skin to pimp out my thief. If you wanted you could also salvage them for a chance at ectos.

Plus every 500 achievement points gets you more badges….so why horde more than ~500 at a time? Be happy that you got what you wanted/needed from the “free” badges that Anet did not even have to give us as ahievement rewards. You all keep acting like you’ve missed out on something, I don’t get it.

Why is that ANET’s fault? If you miss click a billion times, it is completely your fault. If you have bad internet connection, just learn from your mistake and stop clicking. It isn’t rocket science …

It’s not ANet’s fault. But these mistakes are going to happen and guess who is going to have to spend resources to address the support tickets? My concerns are much less about inept or connection-challenged players not being careful enough in the TP, but more about Anet’s already backlogged support team getting further behind.

Maybe they should just put it in place, monitor the issues and then decide if some sort of player protection solution is in order (I’m guessing the support staff would think otherwise). It appears that this is what is going to happen as I don’t want to think they haven’t considered this and the other player level complaints this change would potentially generate.

Just to be clear, I LOVE the idea of this change.

I love the wallet, I think it’s a fantastic addition…but I’m also concerned by the inability to deposit money for safety.

The problem with the trading post is that when it lags, it frequently gives the user a message along the lines of Sorry, the purchase failed.

At that point, unless the user themselves is familiar that this message is frequently not true, they end up trying again. The worst part is the money for that purchase is not immediately removed from the user’s wallet – in the past it could take anything up to 30 minutes before the money would suddenly vanish.

As a new player, if you got a message stating that the purchase was not successful, and you saw that indeed, you had not paid any money, would you normally expect that “failed” purchase to suddenly be submitted silently sometime later?

Every accidental TP purchase that members of my guild and I have ever made on the TP has been due to that exact issue of having been incorrectly told by the TP that the purchase had failed. We’re aware (after having been bitten by this) not to trust that message now – but new players won’t have experienced that little gem. Being able to “hide” gold from the TP so it didn’t accidentally steal a whole lot more than intended was an incredibly useful feature, and one I am sorry to see go.

I would strongly suggest that the TP’s handling of lag needs fixing though – especially now that the user’s ability to reduce the TP’s ability to unexpectedly abscond with more money than intended is being removed. If the user is told the purchase failed, it should not get processed at a later time!

Still a safeguard in the private “guild bank”.

They have thought of that. It was also answered around page 2 or 3 of this thread. You’ll be able to purchase an item that will substitute for those in the recipe. So more or less “yes” but Martin wasn’t 100% sure that is exactly how it will be done.

Nice feature addition. I wish you would add any token that could be used in the future to it. I’ve got a lot of temporary content stuff that I don’t know if I should delete or hang onto in case it is reused in the future. It would be nice if either these items went into the wallet or were converted to a generic token to cut down on clutter.

I do love this improvement since it will free up a lot of bank space, but I have to say that I’m with those who don’t want to keep their currencies in a bundle.

Why not simply add something like the number of your Karma (or any other currency) and the number of that same currency in the wallet?

For example:

50 000 Karma / 500 000 Karma

Now when I spend Karma, I would spend my Karma on the left, and when my Karma reaches 0 I would take remaining Karma from the wallet. That way you can keep your currencies (kinda) separated, while giving you the ability to share them with alts at the same time.

In an ideal world we’d have shared gold across the account and the ability to put gold in the bank to store. But we don’t really know the process on how to make that happen and how many hours may have to go into making that a reality.

The quick fix is to get a mule guild. I honestly thought most people already had a mule guild for storage, but I guess not. It takes little money to get the first guild vault upgrade. I know you can only be in 5 guilds at a time but I dunno why you’d be in 5 guilds. Even without this gold change I don’t really see why people don’t have a mule guild.

Regarding the concerns mentioned over and over about being able to protect a portion of money from being spent, could the new wallet just implement a savings/checking sort of design? The wallet could be made to have “spendable” gold and “savings” gold, with the savings portion unspendable but easily transferable to spendable on demand. That would resolve the need for personal guilds, investment in “gold storage” type items, etc. And I bet it would be fairly easy to implement.

Something to consider, devs?

As for alternatives the suggestion of using buy orders seems better. Also cheaper. People can even simulate keeping money on separate characters separate, mostly anyway. For example character A puts buy orders on Twilight, character B puts buy orders on Sunrise, and so on. Works up to 21 characters with just the legendaries but there are other expensive items where lower buy orders will never be filled.

That’s what I’m calling successful design.

I have a lot of Badges of Honor stacks in my bank space. When the Account wallet is live, will all of my Badges of Honor stacks be automatically deposited into my Account wallet?

this game is played by kids too, because, well, kids play games, at least some of them, right?
Even if we adults (the great great adults) would never have a bad connection or misclick, there still would be kids, and have you ever seen a kid in front of a slow PC or a bad internet connection?

I am thrilled to have this feature coming. everything account wide, and a ton of bank space opening up. Just thought of something that concerns me a bit though. Since karma is no longer soulbound, there is no need for me to keep my hoarde of liquid karma in the bank for whenever I need it on an alt who doesn’t have enough. I can just use it all up and its accessible to everyone.. problem is, I have millions in karma saved in liquid form and I don’t know if there is a cap on it.

Anyone know for sure if there is a cap on Karma?

Edit 2: In the ‘general discussion’ thread I posted about this (not knowing there was already a PS forum thread) someone explained the personal guild idea to me a little more clearly. Basically you have one personal guild bank, and use that as a ‘buffer’ for the character you’re currently playing. You keep track of per-character gold amounts on paper.

Or (and I’ve just thought) it may actually work better the other way round. Use the guild bank to store your ‘account gold’, keeping track of how much of that belongs to each character. The ‘account wallet’ thus functions exactly like the per-character wallet does at the moment, with the only added faff being depositing and withdrawing each time you change characters.

Karma bottles will “stay put”. There will be no auto “drinking”. So unless you consume them, you should be ok.

The question about the Karma cap is a good one.

I was not a very happy player when I first posted in this thread back on page 2 or 3. I was very close to quitting the game right there and then, not even waiting for the update. Not a ragequit, more of a sad-disappointed-limp-awayquit.

I keep all money earned from the TP in the shared bank for rainy days and all my guys and girls keep the money they earned. If they cant afford anything they want then they have to go earn more. Not for much longer.

I’ve managed to reconcile it all now to a point that there will be no quitting (not over this anyway!) but I’m still not very happy with the way its all worked out. I was going to copy over a quote from your other thread but everything there I agreed with and you know what you wrote. But I lived through the various incarnations of SWG and this nothing on what happened there so I’ll still be here.

I can’t think of my people as very individual now, which is quite poor for a game that is easy to alt in. There’s a picture of an amorphous beast that’s all eyes and mouths in an old Conan comic. I wish i could find it…

That’s pretty much where I am right now. I still think it’s dumb to make gold-sharing compulsory (some of us actually roleplay in this online roleplaying game, rather than min-maxing everything), but it’s gone from ‘utterly game-ruining’ to ‘a minor faff’ now that I have the personal guild workaround properly understood.

I would like to add my thanks, finally I will have bank space again.

The currency wallet will not have the 250 stack limit. Currencies in the wallet will behave in the same manner that gold and karma do currently.

If musts needs be, then you can make a lil note on your desktop about if that individual character can only spend what they earn, takes a couple of seconds to do. Surely if you have each character compartmentalized to that degree, surely they keep their own financial records no ?

This is awesome. My favorite update item since launch lol. I have almost a full bank tab dedicated to badges of honor alone.

Not working as intended?

I’ve logged onto 3 alts so far and I had to make this third one an alt I KNOW doesn’t have a lot of Karma. Yep. Not tabulating a complete total. Hmm… First alt had PvP tokens in his bag. WT*? Wasn’t this conversion supposed to be automatic? Is it in the game now, or are we still waiting for it? Do I have to cycle through all 7 of my alts before I get a correct tally on them all?

^ Probably because it’s still the 5th, and the account wallet doesn’t come in till the 6th.

I’m such a nudge. Three things contributed to that error… First, it’s the 6th here. Second, I saw the events on the main Queen’s Jubilee page and the first was one scheduled for the 5th (the Developer’s Livestream). So I thought, well, it kicked off on the 5th, oh look, it’s the 6th! WHY ISN’T THIS WORKING! Didn’t we have maintenance today? Shouldn’t it be in?

1. Drunk/high… well that was a stupid choice, which makes it completely your fault.
2. Allowing your child/sibling/spouse/friend to play is against the terms of use, so ArenaNet cannot and should not be held accountable.
3. Okay, reasonable, and i’ve done something similar before, accidentally buying something you didn’t intend to, or more than you intended, but that can happen regardless of whether money is account bound or not.

Still I doubt one little mistake would take ALL your cash, unless you didn’t have very much to begin with, and if so, is it really worth getting that upset over? If you can lose it that quickly, you can make it back.

I panicked when I opened my bank to see entire tabs empty. Then I was happy and got drunk on karma.

Very Nice. But needs to include more stuff like fortunes and taffy etc.
