Forging the pact,
Great… attempted this mission just before the update to (hopefully) fix it. Same problem as everyone else, so I won’t go into details.
One thing I have not seen mentioned as a possibility is that I died at the 1st location after the conversation occurred then ignored the mobs that had spawned there when I re-entered and went the other direction.
I tried twice second time first research team followed me but not the first one.
Tried clearing the cave first etc no luck.
Can anyone fraps/record this mission for the guy as he cant reproduce it with his team and getting a video would help him in seeing what some of us are trying to do and the order in which things are playing.
I’ve been up this mission last couple weeks but haven’t felt the best so haven’t been playing much at all.
Alright, after SEVERAL times of attempting Forging the Pact, I’ve finally nailed the cause of the glitch (I think).
I have completed it twice. The first time I was rolled back. The second time, I choose the “stay here” option after completing it in a party. Besides that, I’ve had the quest bug out on me 4+ times.
Now, when you head to rescue the first set of researchers, you have to enter the building.
This building to be precise. I have cropped the image into the area you need to be in, any other area WILL not trigger the event. Trahearne and the researcher must have the conversation of there being multiple waves and Trahearne replying they will face soldiers next time. Again, the only way to trigger this conversation is if both you and Trahearne are in this building/area.
The problem faced by many is that they either stand in the green circle on the map or do not enter the building. Every time I DID NOT enter the building, this conversation did not trigger. I believe this is the cause. After the you beat the waves of undead you should get a cutscene (something I believe that doesnt happen if the conversation does not trigger – I’m not sure so someone will have to confirm this as well).
Please try this out and let me know.
I am entirely puppyned now ;\ (cause ‘kittened’ is to mainstream)
This is the longest mission ever, AN promised to fix it, so I waited a week for this update and… broken again x| The researchers second group did not follow me again. Trahearne also bugged out after next 5 minutes of running after me :/
Map was showing invisible “Ally followers” etc
Please do something with it, as many players (including me) are stuck in this dead-end for over a week :/ It’s really not fun to do this thing again and again with no hope to succes “Maybe this time after 30 minutes of grind mission will be so kind not to bug”.
Gosh :/

I can confirm this is still bugged as hell. I did this last night, before the patch, and after reaching the researchers in the cave they wouldn’t follow me, just standing there and staring at the walls. Today, after the patch, exactly the same. I get to the cave, I have all neccesary dialogues, and after that they won’t move one micrometer (except if there’s an enemy in range, then they go and attack him and afterwards move back to exact the same spot they were before). So now I’m stuck again, can’t advance and continue with my character. I really hope ArenaNet provides a quick fix for this fast.
Also, I get some weird message after killing enemies, some content deactivated temporarily. I guess it has to do with last night’s fix.
What about triggering successful quest end upon reaching the final spot even if the group is not with you? At least until you get to fix this. So that at least we can go on playing.

The same happened to me just now. NPC`s won`t follow me, therefore I can`t get out of the cave (iirc a charr headbutts down the baricade). I also got a constant “This content has been temporarly disabled. please try again later” message.
I`m a bit sad to see this quest bugged because it worked when I did it on my first character.
Still bugged after a patch. Wiki says
If Trahearne dies before your party reaches the “Escort the researchers to the southern exit with Trahearne.” part of the mission a bug will stop Trahearne from leading the researchers and you will have to restart the mission!
Does anyone tried to prevent Trahearne’s deaths?

This.
When mine finally worked, I knew something was different as I’d never had that cutscene before.

Doesn’t make any difference if he lives or dies.
I have entered the building, saved everyone, etc… 5th attempt this morning after the patch that was supposed to fix this. Still bugged. But now I am getting this message… That content has been temporarily disabled please try again later. I get this when I enter the cave. Really? How about giving us that message the moment we step into the quest area? How stupid. Unbelievable.

Then we have to wait the fix :/

I can confirm that preventing Traherne’s death may help in completing the quest.
Tried this quest sunday evening, died oh so many times, reached the researches inside the cave and only Traherne would follow me, while the others would stand joyfully watching the stalagmites in the cave.
Tried it last night, managed to avoid Traherne’s death (I don’t know but it seemed to me that some mobs hit less hard than first night, but I could be wrong), reached the second researcher group with all people happily alive and could complete the mission.
Personal opinion: the mission rocks, but is “surprisingly” long, at least compared to the previous in the storyline. The first part in the Concordia encampment is a bit tedious especially because you have to go up and down the stairs many times.
Nonetheless it’s one of the most fun and challenging storyline mission I found until now and the final battle is terrific.

The best tempo fix would be allowing mission end when player reaches the final cave doors :/

It’s the longest one and one of more difficult. It may be fun on first attempts. In its current state it just makes players mad :/
I can confirm that the building may have something to do with it. On my last attempt I made sure to go into the building near where you fight the waves of risen. It triggered the little conversation between Trehearn and the Asura. I was then able to finish the quest.
Not totally sure about the building, I got a cutscene (maybe not the right one?) but still can’t complete this.
Grrr…
Still bugs out for me during the escort the researchers to the southern end. Can ArenaNet just complete the mission at this point for people? It’s been almost a month now and haven’t been able to finish the personal story.
Will try to enter that building and prevent Trahearne’s deaths. I’ll post what I discover later on

To be honest the escorting part is hardly any efford- Risen between 2nd camp and the gate can be defeated by player himself (in theory we should be accompanied by like 6 other npc).
The easiest fix would be indeed to end mission on this level :/ It is one of the longest missions anyway and with so many allied NPCs the final few meters are not any challenge.
I became a victim of this bug tonight. I am at the final cave, all enemies dead, I saw the cut scenes etc. But nothing will let me get past that last wall with Trahearne. Researchers stay at north end of cave.
Once I started killing in the cave i was spammed by the red content disabled message. Seems the grubs are being affected by the anti-farming applied to grubs in other map locations.
Http://www.acolytescommunity.com – http://www.youtube.com/user/AcolytesCommunity
I can confirm MaxTwelve.4725’s post. Same thing happened for me
..the same just happened to me..=[
killed everything in the cave, same spam message, and I am stuck at the end of the cave (the green star on the mini-map)…all the Researchers decided to stay in the north part of the cave…
The Original Hazelnut Spread, from 1964
The “content unavailable” message seems to be related specifically to Risen Grubs, which litter that cave. The same message appears outside of this mission when I try to kill one, so I don’t think it is specifically related to the issue in this story section.
This quest is still bugged.
Now at the end, a whole pack of risen brutes spawns in the air.
Trahearne teleports up to fight them, and dies.
The NPC’s are invulnerable, even to ranged attacks (melee attacks miss).
So you’re locked in combat with a pack of invincible monsters you cannot reach and it is impossible to complete the quest.
I’m getting so tired of running the same long and buggy story line quest over and over, only to run into bugs that block progress completely.
OK … finished now.
I just stayed in green spot even if it says “…content non avalaible…etc etc…”
At the top of the cavern , where the second crew is, there is a an elite mob quite stucked in the rock.
Killed it … and all went ok…
This is still bugged for me and has been for two weeks now. I hate to be that guy, but ANet, this is astoundingly frustrating and I haven’t played at all in the last week because of it.
Bugged for me. Got it thru on the 4th attempt. Made me wish there was a save-progress option.
I think this one, maybe you have to follow exactly the steps the developers imagined you should take. Ironically, the quest after this one will bug unless you break off and leave your NPCs behind.
Pray for robustness.
Just wanted to report a bugged mission for me as well. Tried to take the researchers to the southern exit, and the exit was blocked. Story could not continue.
yeah sadly this is stopping me from progressing in the story…I can’t escort the research team to the south gate…they just stand around and wont move
I also get a message every time I kill a Risen Grub saying “That content has been temporarily disabled. Please try again later.”
I am in the same situation. At the end …nothing… :-( …btw I received many times the same message as Jahbu.2953 “That content has been temporarily disabled. Please try again later.”
17 days this error has existed. I am sorry, but ArenaNet, you are FAILING HARD right now.
Either put some patches out, or you are very soon (probably already) going to lose your players. I know you already got their money, but new players do not like to see a game with terrible reviews about gameplay like this.
What really aggravates me about this situation is 17 days have passed like this is just some non issue, Meanwhile recources are wasted on policing chat for naughty words and offensive names. Priority’s really seemed to be mixed up right now. I WANT A PLAYABLE bug free game please stop wasting resources on this “police state” and take care of the real PROBLEMS first.
I had this issue too last night. It seems the patch didn’t work. Please fix it.
I attempted the mission a second time and this time it worked. The researchers followed me and the mission was completed successfully. The only thing I did differently was I didn’t ask the researcher what he was looking for – I just told him we need to move right away. Not sure if that was the difference or not, but the first time I went through the mission and it got stuck it was frustrating.
Based on a tour of ANet that was posted, the quests team doesn’t overlap with the babysitters who handle names and discipline. As best I can tell they don’t have a huge team on that, in any case. There’s a separate dungeon team, separate pvp, etc. So fixes or improvements in one aren’t taking talent away from the other. Altho it’s apparent some teams are more talented than others…
The south exit is supposed to be blocked, but after you reach it, there’s some discussion and you go back out the other way, fighting more endless waves of risen.
Today’s patch, which says it fixed the problem with this quest, did not fix it. I still have the exact same bug where the NPCs won’t follow me.
Can confirm, this is still bugged, I am not able to complete the quest, or in other words, after two weeks I am still not able to continue with the character. At least this time I had a couple of NPCs more following me, not only Trahearne, but still some of them stand still where (I guess) they are not supposed to be.
How many weeks are we supposed to wait until this works? Is there any debug data I can send so you can fix this?
Member of Silver Sunshine.
Was able to finish it just a few minutes ago, the recent patch did the trick. Thanks Jeff!
I did’nt believe you!
Still Bugged for me!
Why in hell is this quest still left in game. It is preventing me from completing my story on a bunch of toons. If can’t fix bug get dam quest completed for people who can’t and have been waiting since launch of dam game to actually you know play the game hey paid for.
As noted above, the primary fix is in the 9/24 update, which isn’t out yet. (Typically, new builds go out around midnight PST.) There’s also some fixes in the 10/1 update to catch an endge case where it’s possible to complete the story objectives out of order.
Still not fixed, South gate bugged out 5 times in a row today.

Still not fixed, South gate bugged out 5 times in a row today.
What exactly does that mean? What’s your current objective? Did you lead Trahearne to the gate? Did he comment on it? Did you get the step to talk to him? Did you talk to him? Did he summon any help?
FIXED
To the people stuck on this quest (and the devs) -
After searching the first objective, you need to actually fight the risen that spawn as you work your way to the 1st group of survivors. DO NOT just rush up the hill, ignoring the risen, to the next quest objective. I believe if the player (or more likely, Trahearne) are in combat when activating this step of the quest, it breaks the rest.
I played this mission properly on my necro. Took my time, killed everything. No problem. On my alt I tried to rush through, not fighting the risen between the first objective and the 1st group of survivors. Every single time the quest broke. You know when you’ve done it right, because Trahearne should say something upon reaching the survivors.

I’ve done this for 2 separate characters in the last 2 days. Both times I finished it on my 3rd attempt. It would always bug after talking to the second research team. It seemed to be the NPCs position when I activated that part of the quest that let me continue. I finally talked to the head researcher on the second team and Trahearne standing near him said 2 lines of dialogue, and then I was able to finish the quest as normal.
Today I ran this mission and had no problem running it. I do have a bit of a complaint about it though. When you reach the top of the hill to find the researchers and the waves begin coming… If you die and click to retry from a checkpoint, that checkpoint is right in the middle of the clearing that the mobs are rushing to. This means that as soon as you respawn, you are in the middle of the fight again. I tried to pull the enemies away from that point in case I died again but they kept defaulting back to that point. While I was able to try a different strategy and pull it off, several deaths had occurred and my armor all was a happy shade of yellow on the damage indicator. I feel that moving the respawn point just out of agro range would be a little more benefitial in this fight. Perhaps on the roof of the building next to the clearing? or even up that hill to the north?
Still bugged for me tonight as of about 3 hours ago, the NPC’s didn’t follow me and I couldn’t get out of the cave thing.
Aspiring Brotherhood [PACT]

Ok now, I could finally finalize this quest. What Death by Chickens.6902 said is the key to it.
Before, I’d run through up to the hill after killing the last group before the survivors to get to them as fast as possible, ignoring all spawning enemies. Actually, the quest and its mechanics push you into that, since the enemy groups spawn behind you, so it’s just logical that this makes you run and not turn around and fight. This time, I took my time and fought(sp?) each and every group that spawned in my way (or behind my way), and indeed, that was crucial, after that everything would work as intented (including the mentioned dialogue between Trahearne and the first group of survivors, which didn’t happen before even though the quest itself would advance).
So now that the issue has been identified, hopefully ArenaNet can fix it so it won’t break whenever someone decides to rush up the hill to get to the first survivors. Meanwhile, in order to succeed, don’t rush, take you time, kill all enemies that spawn in front of or behind you, specially before getting to the first group of survivors.

I can confirm what Death by Chickens.6902 wrote indeed does the trick.
After reaching first objective if you do not follow the path and take shortcut through that hut/jump over barricade it WILL bug, you must stay on the path otherwise treahern’s script dont continue. there is a green huge arrow on map you must follow that along the path and wait for attack from behind and then the barricade gets destroyed infront of you on the path and the script rolls on.
in short; reason it bugs is if you take shortcut through the hut and jump over barricade..it should be easy to fix this by completely blocking the barricades, so you are forced to wait on the path for the attack from behind.
thank you my good sir

I only figured it out because of a friend that was stuck.
When I tried to do it with my thief and it didn’t work, I KNEW it was because I was trying to rush through the mission, and I knew without a doubt that my friend had been doing the same.
The way the mission is scripted, it definitely implies that the player should rush immediately through the barricades and up the hill. Most everyone seems to do this, but because the bug doesn’t halt your progress until reaching the 2nd group of researchers, no one could figure out where the problem was.
Bugged for me. I am at the southern exit of the cave with the research teams and Traehearn. No comment from him and not able to talk to him besides his standard “Escort me and I get us out” yada yada yada. This blows and I don’t want to do this again just to have it bugged still.
Success! Sharing my findings here to a) hopefully help other people get it complete and b) maybe give ArenaNet some more insight into fixing this thing. Minor, minor spoilers.
Ok, so I had the quest bug on me once last night (4th October 2012, around 10pm BST) and again this morning (5th October, around 9am BST).
I didn’t do any of the following:
- Take a shortcut on the path, jump over the hut or anything like that
- Let Traehearn die
- Have any problems with Traehearn following me
I did do the following on both failed attempts:
- Die and have to continue from a checkpoint
When I tried it for the second time this morning, however, I tried to follow all of the advice in this thread and I:
- Ran inside the house where you meet the first group of researchers, all the way to the back
- Stood around a lot, making sure all the NPCs had caught up and didn’t have any dialogue to complete before speaking to each NPC for a conversation cutscene
- Cleared all the enemies in the area after finding the first group of researchers and running back down the hill
Whatever I did / didn’t do this 3rd time I don’t know, but it worked.
