Mentioned several time already throughout this long, long post… I like the idea of the leaderboards NOT reflecting daily/monthly progress… BUT:

Something that can be done without effecting anything else, wipe the boards of all points gained from daily/monthly and have the boards ONLY reflect the 5 daily and 40 monthly points required to get your laurel and monthly goodies box. The top XXXX will see their leaderboard numbers drop through the floor likely, but their status will still be perfectly maintainable, AND the wipe will also weed out anyone who doesn’t/didn’t focus on the more permanent achievements that anyone and everyone (even brand new players) are able to get with some work (slayer, emperor, hero things pvp, wvw, etc).
Drop a date for this as anyone hoping to break into the nosebleeds of the leaderboards WILL want to know just how much time they have to catch up, but otherwise leave EVERYTHING exactly the same. So the change really is more of a cosmetic one to the boards themselves, and only the minimum number of daily/monthly points to catch your rewards are counted from hence forth. Everyone keeps their current AP, Living story AP gain/system is not affected (sorry, this one I do feel is on you if you really want the leaderboard that bad), everyone else can pad their reward chest AP with extra points from dailies.

Full disclosure: I have a boatload of APs but I’ve never really chased them from the standpoint of “gotta be the world first,” just hammered some dailies, monthlies and only ground out the last bits of things when they started getting close, and now only chase extra dailies to pad my next achievement chest gain… i ignore pvp and wvw (used to wvw, and i miss not being stuck in the jq/bg/sor perma claptrap since the matchup policy shift) but yea…not a leaderboard chaser, just someone with a fancy amount and a somewhat different take on a way to ease the leaderboard chaser’s pain without having any real effect on anyone else

most top players also got most permanent achievements. I got like 400 daily/monthly points less than maximum, but still top 50

The Big Spender achievement is up today. What I love about this achievement is how it requires 25 badges of honor to be spent, but the cheapest items that you can buy all require 6 or 12 badges. So the end result is you either spend 30 badges, 5 more than you would need for the daily, or you buy WvW gear and ascended trinkets, which cost 6-10x the 25 badges for the daily. I would think that ANet would use logic when it picks the amounts for the daily achievements.

I alway buy 2 pieces of WvW armor for 10 badges + 15 badges (gloves or somesuch) and destroy them immediately after.

Just go through the WvW vendor menus, you will find items that total up to 25 badges.

I think the OP proposed changes would only help cement the current leaderboard since what ever way you look at it, what ever way you try to paint it, what ever argument you use, it WOULD make the daily AP easier to get, ence defeating the point really.
As is, the only way of splitting hairs on the top of the leader board is with the daily achievements ALONE since the monthly and living story ones are easy to get, them being aimed for the casual player after all.

As for the argument the OP makes about how wrong it is for players at the bottom wanting to climb up at the expense of the top ones falling… How else is the leader board spouse to change? I mean really, answer that. Back to my first paragraph, right now the only thing making a difference is the dailies AP.
To make the dailies give a set number of AP with the chest would be like printing the leaderboard as is on paper and leave it be for years to come.

I’d propose all permanent achievements to have their cap lifted and cycle to infinity like the current Salvage one, that way the OP would have his wish of breaking free from the daily cycle slavery since that wouldn’t be the only reason he’s at the top right now.
Although he’ll probably go berserk with this idea since maintaining a top position with my idea implemented would be pretty impossible.

Why not buy rams instead and sell them for some silver. Better than nothing.

True, but the point was to offer something different from some uncalled for ap gain capping, i happen to like getting my achievment boxes, and farming way more than dailies whenever possible is how i do it… my suggestion was only a way of basically leaving things unchanged but making life a little better for the OP and his type of player. I see nothing wrong with what he was asking, just that his idea would severely cramp others. Besides, let’s be honest, if you didn’t start at the top of that list, you aren’t going to ever be getting there, or getting any higher on it until those at the top burn out and quit, end of story. Those leaderboards, and chasing that #1 position is just a no-win endurance race where the #1 gets props for a bit and is forgotten very quickly after they can’t do it anymore, I don’t mind people chasing that…it’s on them, but I do think they don’t need to spend all their playtime just chasing dailies is all.
