Today I tested the damage of my level 80 Ranger (using all exotics) vs my level 9 thief in WvW.

The level 80 Ranger and his level 80 exotic shortbow did less damage to each NPC tested than the level 9 thief and his level 8 blue bow. Significantly less damage. The highest critical for the Ranger was still more than 500 damage LESS than the critical hits the thief was getting. 40% less damage per hit was what it averaged out to be.

Rangers are obsolete in PvP and WvW and it’s easy to see why.

I’m begging the developers to look into this. Without balancing the professions, players will be forced to choose only a couple different professions just to stay competitive. We’ll lose out on what makes this game special – diversity.

test it again with 80 exo thief and in nearly same spec.

Adam, did you magically disregard the fact the level 9 thief does not have access to Elite + 2 Utility Slots, and lacks plenty of Minor and Major Traits?

If you tried Lv9 ranger vs Lv80 exotic thief, you might yield similar results.

That being said, the problem with Rangers, in my opinion, is the poor AI of pets, their poor survival, and the unresponsiveness of the F2 skill.

Right so first…You have a pet….that is kinda a big deal as the pet can hit fairly hard. I have been hit for a 2.5k crit with a pet and when being shot by the ranger too than can be rather damaging. Also thief is all about burst damage, and well damage in general. Compare your survivability.
