I’d like to change the physical appearance of my character, but there’s no way to do it! So, my advice is to put a system, perhaps based on gems, which allows you to change all or part of the physical appearance of the character. I know however that I’m not the only one asking, then I also wonder if by chance there are news about it. Thank you!

Race change too please.
I know you can say ‘It will mess up the personal story, and OMG!’. But no, there’s ways around it, either they make you play out the personal story with your new race again, which I doubt will happen. Or, they give you the options and explain what happens without you playing it and you pick what you want, so it’s all down on paper but you don’t do it, it will be much quicker and easier.
They’re missing out on a lot of money if they don’t implement race changes/appearance changes if you ask me…

I honestly do not really like the idea of being able to change the race, it drastically distorts the game and, as I see it, if you want a new race, you want a new character, not the same slightly different! I would just change hairstyles, facial hair, makeup and maybe some somatic trait, nothing more!

I want to be able to turn back to character creation step for my existing characters.

Changing Race should only be possible if…
…you have completed your Personal Story…
…AND you buy the service from Gem Store…
…AND you essentially go to the character customization screen…
…AND you get a “story recap” once you are finished, essentially summarizing what you did so far.

Alternatively…
…you’d be able to change race at any time…
…BUT you’d have to do the story all over again…
…AND you would not get any rewards until you are at the same “step” you were on your previous race.

In any case, your Cultural/Faction-specific gear would be converted as well.

I was somewhat surprised that there is no “barber shop” or place where I could go in game to have my appearance altered. This is a world of magic, after all. Alterations to my physical body can be explained away with a wave of the hand and a few mumbled words about the gods and their thanks for all that I’ve done for Tyria.

So, yes. I’m completely on board with a means of changing a character’s physical appearance after it’s been created.

Changing races? That’s a bit of a stretch. Although other games have such features, it would take a far more compelling bit of story telling to make that fly. It’d be like trying to force a square peg into a round hole; and it just doesn’t sit well with me.

Still, if the effort to do so were not cost-prohibitive, I would not be one to deny players something that gave them the power of choice. More choice and freedom to play and enjoy the game longer is a good thing, so long as it can be achieved without breaking the bank, and provides a reasonable return on investment.

I think that the ability to change race would be too problematic to be feasible, and the programming of it would be incredibly time-consuming. However, I really love the idea of being able to change basic character appearance. This could be as simple as allowing an in-game interface that retruns to the basic options that were present during character creation after race/gender choice and before personality/background choices. All of the primary appearance options were in one page of the character creation interface, and I think it would be fairly easy to develop an in-game interface that duplicates that functionality by returning back to that original code.

GW1 eventually had such a system with the makeover packs available from the game store, and GW2 could similarly make it available through a gem shop item of some kind.
