Guild Wars 2

One of my favorite pass times in MMOGs is fishing. I am loving GW2 at the moment and have no complaints, but I thinking fishing would be a fantastic addition.

The way I see it is a fishing rod would be used like any other gathering item, no bait or anything just tiers of rods. You could have fishing nodes off piers, cliffs, and near waterfalls. The mats gathered could be used for the cooking profession, with the off chance of grabbing some salvageable scraps.

I would love for fishing to be more in-depth with it being like a mini game and having consumable bait, but I’m also trying to see what would be the easiest to implement.

Thoughts?

Agreed, this is a great idea ^^.
Maybe to catch something you would have to go through a quick time event.
Also fish caught could also be collectibles (Yeah… I’m quite the klepto ^^“).

I’ll throw my hat in this ring too. In WoW, probably a lot of my first year or two was spent traveling the world JUST TO FISH.

i like the idea of treating fishing like other forms of farming! it goes into a tool slot. you have to use an appropriate level rod tool to get the items from schools of fish in a zone. maybe some zones don’t really have good fishing areas; but some other zones are great!!!

I think it’d be fun in some zones with coastlines if you could fish up small treasures from time to time! like you found na old pirate’s boot, and it had some gems in it or something? x3

there could even be a really neat little “chain event” somewhere in teh game. you complete some de somewhere; and you get invited to a special fishing tournament that lasts a short time. kind of how you can go keg brawling? XD

It’s an interesting idea, but it would be way to easy to create a bot to do this. On this factor alone I would say no. Mining nodes is basically fishing anyway

except that mining is mining; and fishing is fishing. People actually like the act of fishing/casting a line.

you can’t just not want content in a game because someone might figure out a way to create a bot for it. people will probably be trying to create bots for anything implemented in game; because there will always be that portion of the player base who are too lazy to do the actual work themselves like the rest of us.

The thing to do there is just find a way if htere are special fishing events; require some kind of.. acknowledgement or activity that would indicate someone’s playing, not a bot.

Suggested 5 thousand times, but I support it here as well…

Having limited charges in a fishing location similar to ore, trees and such should stop the problem of bots. Or if they added a feature that sometimes the fish may actually attack you. =]

or what if you accidentally fish up an arm or something off a risen body? and it spawns the undead there? making you have to fight every so often.. then people botting will just lay dead on teh ground. xD

If you want to deal with bots, do this:
- Turn gathering (including fishing) into minigames
- Wood can be about 2 gauges (gauge cursor goes up and down or left and right): hit high for maximum power, then hit center for maximum accuracy
- Mining could be a 5×5 minesweeper :P
- Harvesting could be a sequencial input of actions (like twist, bend, pull, cut) by replacing your weapon skills
- Fishing could be about tiring the fish – check Breath of Fire IV fishing in youtube

All minigames should be easy to do, but complex enough that a Bot will have absolutely no chance

i do that irl lolz so guess pixel fishing would be fun as well.

Icancase you did not understand NO fishing in mmos is fine but it won’t work in gw2 imo!

I would like the fishing it to be challenging.

*Ability to fish on the bottom
*Control the depth with a fishing float
*use chum
*cool fish to catch “Goliath Tigerfish, swordfish, sawfish”

make it work like this:

The Skill Bar is made up of:
*1-5 weapon skills
*6-10 utility skills, healing, elite

Add one button on the hud to turn the Skill Bar into a
emotion bar.

Skill 1-5 can have options like:
Dancing skills
Boxing skills
Fishing skills

6-10 will be for other animations

I’d love this. I actually find in-game fishing almost as relaxing as irl fishing! It’d give us another excuse to savor the beautiful GW2 scenery, too!

I think they should make some kind of fishing shop where u buy:
Fishing Rod, Cord and Bait
And fishing events would be great deal too
