When I login and select my character, I often go off to do another task because my computer isn’t the fastest in the world. It takes a while for the game to load. Often, I get distracted with that said task (eg. doing the dishes, feeding the fish, etc.) and end up spending more time than I had planned. By the time I get back to my game I’m dead… because I loaded in the middle of a mob or what was once an uncontested waypoint.

It’s not a huge deal but just a bit of annoyance. Could we have something to prevent this? Perhaps I can not draw aggro until I do something…

IMO, there should be a mechanism in place that allows you to choose whether to spawn where you left off, or at the nearest waypoint to prevent these deaths. I’ve had issues in the past where I’ve logged in only to find my char already dead on the ground, surrounded by an aggro mob triggered by a dynamic event I had no control over.

Nearest waypoint option isn’t a sollution because, as OP mentioned, it can get contested in the meanwhile and he gets killed.

I think being immune until you take action would be ideal.

I am all for being immune until you take action. Even with a faster connection, you can often be attacked or even killed before you ever arrive on-screen and take in your surroundings. But you shouldn’t be able to use this to your advantage either… any monsters within your attack range should be immune to you for 3 seconds after you take action.
