This is just a little suggestion, but I feel that this would greatly benefit players like me who like to explore every nook and cranny that this game offers.

The problem I have is that in the lower-levels of the game (I’m going to take Queensdale and Kessex Hills here for example) you can only gather materials that are appropiate for that level, for example.

In Queensdale you can gather: Green Wood Logs and Copper Ore
In Kessex Hills you can gather: Soft Wood Logs and Iron Ore

Being a level 80 Theif, you can naturally guess that these materials literally serve no purpose for me and if I so wanted to obtain these materials, I could simply buy them from the Trading Post or better yet, the suggestion i’m going to make.

I feel that gathering a specific tier of materials should be based on the tier of gathering tools that I currently have equipped.

If this suggestion was to take place, then the tools would go accordingly:-

Copper Tools- Tier 1 Materials.
Iron Tools- Tier 2 Materials
Steel Tools-Tier 3 Materials
Darksteel Tools-Tier 4 Materials
Mithril Tools-Tier 5 Materials
Orichalum Tools- Tier 6 Materials

As for Master and Black Lion Tools, I beleive they should stay the same as they are right now in the first place.

If this were to take affect, that means that it would give players like me, who like to 100% the area not for the Legendaries, but for the goodies that come out of area completion, a good enough reason to go back to lower level areas to complete what hasnt been finished. It can also help promote higher leveled players into going back to help lower level players (Probably not, but at least I won’t groan if am going to help one of my lowbie-freinds into doing the Dynamic Events in the first place)

So taking the 2 areas I have mentioned (Which I havent 100%‘d yet) I’d be able to happily explore and complete the area and get some worthy materials which are suited to me while I am at it.

I can’t think of a reason as how this would affect the other low levels in the area (I’m prety sure a level 5 isn’t going to be able to afford Orichalcum Tools, unless it’s an alt of course and then again, it gives another reason on why people might want to create an alt if this did take place)

Will this stop people from farming Karma and Dynamic Events at Cursed Shore? probably not, but it might take a portion of those people to go into the lower level areas to gather some materials.

Do you think this is a good idea? I personally think that it is, but we all have a opinion on everything and all opinions should be expressed as long as it is done contructively and maturely.

P.S.- If you read all of this, then Congratulations, you have a better attention span than I do.

That would just enable people to leveling their character from 1 to 80 in a starting zone simply by gathering crafting materials.

And besides, the Tier 6 materials are currently spawning in a very different manner than the previous ones. They’re much, much rarer. And that’s good. Similarly, some Cooking ingredients have pretty funky spawning locations.

And since you talk about area completion, I guess next you’re going to suggest that the “goodies” you get from area completions should also scale with your level?

I made a suggestion that is actually fair for everyone in one of my threads.
Can’t be bothered finding it now.

Here’s a reiteration:
Idea #1 – When attempting to gather a node X tiers below your tool, you have a X% chance per Tier difference to spend 0 charges/durability
Idea #2 – Implement Whetstone:
You shouldn’t have to carry a handful of mining picks, sickles and axes.
You should be able to carry one of each, and then carry Whetstones to “repair” the Tools as you wear them out.

Tools would have 100 Durability per Tier (600 for Orichalcum Tool).

As long as you’re using a tool of the minimum Tier required:
Orichalcum would spend 6 Durability -> Orichalcum Tool has 600 Durability
Mithril would spend 5 -> Mithril Tool has 500 Durability
Platinum would spend 4 -> Darksteel Tool has 400 Durability
Gold would spend 3 -> Steel Tool has 300 Durability
Iron and Silver would spend 2 – > Iron Tool has 200 Durability
Copper would spend 1 -> Copper Tool has 100 Durability

Considering the above, gathering the material appropriate for your tool would use up the tool as fast as it does now.
The only difference would be when trying to gather nodes below your tool’s tier.

Not enough Durability
If you have 17 durability left, and attempt to gather an Orichalcum Node, you spend 6+6+6=18, so you will get 2 Orichalcum Ores (not counting bonuses) and your third gathering will result in ruined metal.

Gathering above your Tool Tier
When trying to gather a node X Tiers above your Tool, you should be able to, but you’d spend X+1 times as much Durability.
So if you have an Copper Mining Pick (Tier 1)and try to gather Gold (Tier 3), since Gold is 2 tiers above Copper, your tool loses 2+1 times 3 Durability = 9 Durability

If you tried to gather Orichalcum with a Copper Mining Pick, you’d lose 6 * 6 = 36 Durability per “tick” = you’d break the tool after 3 “ticks”, and you’d only manage to gather 2 Orichalcum Ores – the third would be ruined because you didn’t have enough durability on the tool.
