Greetings

I sugest a new dodge mechanic.

The current one, though inivative ..just doesnt work well. I have already seen people say that its worse in group pvp were its inpossible to dodge enough to make any difference specialy when skills hit so hard.

I personaly am looking at it from the pve perspective. And again when fighting groups it really doesnt help at all, and when fighting say.. a full on boss ..a giant for example ..that stomps and can 1 shot any1 if not dodged ..its a real pain when said boss stomps faster than you can regen stamina to dodge. And you cant run away becouse the stomp damage radius is massive.

I’ve played tab target mmo’s with dodge stats.. block stats ..which uses random number generation to decide if you get hit or not ..they work ..though are dull and generaly to easy a style to play, but they work. And action combat games like Tera and blade & soul. Again that style works ,, you move and dodge and block yourselves with little restriction (although there is some ofcourse to discurage infinite dodging).

GW2 needs to adopt one of the above to some degree, preferably the action style one to help move further away from tab target style gameplay.

At the very least you should increase the number of times you can dodge and/or increase base stamina regen.

I like hard games, im an ‘older’ gamer, so am used to games pre 00’s, which were harder. But, not having the ability to properly attempt to keep myself alive is not making a game harder, it makes it more annoying. Please allow a players skill to matter more than it does now..i would very much like to see more mmo’s adopt a more action orientated style of gameplay so that skill really does matter mroe than stats.

I agree there should be a second method to avoid at least a % of the incoming damage…maybe a parry or block system and not by chances but by action, pretty much like the warrior’s shield block (or something that counter attacks can’t remember the exact name) but for every class….something that has to be done with good timing in order to work
Obviouysly parrying with a staff wouldn’t be as effective as blocking with a shield but at least would provide some level of protection

Nothing passive. Maybe 3 dodges or more likely make all those one shot skills go off less often? It might just be poor boss design but if its a problem in PvP that probably isn’t the case. A net should look into this. BUT NOTHING PASSIVE.

“Parry” could be a good name for a proc defense, since “Evade” and “Block” already have contextual meaning in GW2.

Proc defense also would help make Toughness a lot more useful, right now a stat that lets out get two shotted instead of one shotted just isn’t as useful as something that brings the enemy down twice as fast.

User was infracted for being awesome.

There are 2 ideas I think could work reasonably well to fix the issues between large scale fights and Dodge:

1 – After a Dodge, you gain a Boon called Tension for 3 seconds, causing attacks from other enemies (enemies other than your last Target) to restore a portion of your Stamina.

This means in large scale fights, if you are being attacked by various enemies, you will be able to Dodge more often than usual.

Possible restrictions:
- You can only gain Stamina once per enemy, per Dodge (within the 3 seconds). This effect might stack, causing 2 consecutive Dodges to allow you to gain Stamina twice per enemy (within the 3 seconds)
- AoE attacks might not trigger this gain.
- Damage over time effects might not trigger this gain, only the attacks that applied said.

2 – After a Dodge, you gain a Boon called Focus, causing you to take less damage from other enemies (enemies other than your last Target) for 3 seconds.

Note: The idea 1 and 2 could be combined into a single Boon.

3 – Instead of Boons, you could simply regenerate Stamina at varying speeds based on the number of enemies nearby.
This increase in Stamina regeneration could be higher for player enemies and bosses, and lower for lesser creatures.
It could also have a cap.

I really like the idea of naturally dodging 3 times and/or gaining some form of dodge regeneration somehow based on number of baddies around.

It is intentional that dodge cannot be used to defend against 100% of enemies’ attacks. If you want to dodge more, most classes have skills or traits for faster endurance regen (either directly or through the “vigor” boon.)

Weirwynn, the issue here is how Dodge can seem rather meaningless in larger scale fights.
In 1v1 may be pretty good, or might even be too good, but as the fights grow in scale, Dodge falls into oblivion.

Aye, those are some good ideas.

the problem is …in most past cases with other games, when a key feature like this is found to be not working aswell as people had hoped. Nothing gets changed, simply becouse its a key feature.

Its a bit like saying ‘personal stories dont work, change them’ ..it aint gunna happen. I could probably see dodging getting changed, but not for a long while. Which is a shame, since i dont like the idea of playing through the game as melee with this crappy dodge system.

OI hope ‘someone’ *wink wink ..not calling out here :P * see’s this thread and gives feedback

I think this one is very sensible. Maybe make it a trait for a more tanky class. I know GW2 tries to move away from the trinity, but hey..someone has to do the dirty job, so it is only sensible to do it that way, I think.

Well, Xocolatl, the point is to make Dodge more effective and available more frequently in large scale fights – in particular when you are being attacked by several enemies – so just being around several enemies wouldn’t trigger Tension/Focus.

There could indeed be a trait increasing the benefit from Tension/Focus, but Tension/Focus itself as I described above should be available to everyone.
The effect should be small by default, but enough to make Dodge feel less “inconsequent” in large scale fights.
