Opitional Pet For Rangers?
www.Twitch.tv/kreepingg
Hey guys, I’d like to suggest an opition for the Ranger class to have or not have a Pet with it. Personally, I hate pets and I dislike the fact you can’t permentantly remove it. I think if we had this opition, and you choose to get rid of the pet, you could get something instead.. Example: 5 more spells in spellbook than Rangers with Pets. This is just an idea though so please no trolling
thanks! Feedback please
THIS ^^^^^, I hate my pet, I don’t want to “micro-manage” my pet, my pet is mainly dead and causing me agro.
I only ever play a Ranger, played a Ranger since the launch of GW1.
For me this is a game breaker.
Exactly IMO pets get in my way more than they help! Plus, I feel like the Ranger is still really powerful without a pet.

Ranger class is revolving around co-operating with your pet, I don’t think that removing the pet would make sense.
That’s not necessarily true Vaya. However, this has been suggested countless times by lots of rangers.
Most people are strongly for it, some are strongly against it. I’m not sure how having the OPTION to get rid of it would hurt some people.
Also people go around saying “It’s the defining mechanic of the class!” Not really. Thieves have stealth but they don’t have to stealth, Eles have attuenemnts but they don’t have to swap, necros have pets but they don’t have to use them, engineers have kits but they don’t have to use them, etc etc etc.
Another defining trait of a ranger is spirits but we all know how kitten those are.
I think having an opition of how you play any class is just far and I feel like Rangers are one of the only classes without options like you said Ethics. Thanks for the feedback!

I’ve not played my Ranger without the pet but I have noticed there is an option to put away the pet and with the right weapon and trait selection the pet may be unnecessary except in certain situations where you pull them out to act as your “spirit” companion.
Like I said, I’ve not explored the build but it seems like the viable option may already be there.
Most people are strongly for it
Most? I think not.
Please tell me how you came to the conclusion that most people favor this idea? Did you make a poll to ask all players?
Thanks for all the feedback, @Cherokeewill, I’ll definitely look up that build and if you can make the pet passive like 90% of the time that’s great! But still, if your just gonna make a passive pet why not just rid of it all together in exchange for some spells or different buffs? Makes sense to me.

I don’t get it, isn’t the whole point of the profession having a pet? That’s the only reason I made my ranger. I guess I am in the “strongly for” category?
I guess my question is, what is it about ranger, other than pets, that you really like that is key to the profession that other classes do not have? I am genuinely curious.
I personally like Ranger for what their class name is… A Ranger.. And the definition of a Ranger is a bowman or someone efficient with the Bow and Arrow, Throwing knifes, Ect. A Shaman is more of a pet class IMO but this game doesn’t have Shamans. But to answer your question, the Ranger is efficient in Bows more than any other class and that’s what I want to use it for.. Not to carry around a useless lizard or moa bird…

I made a whole suggestion about this in the Ranger forum.

I love your suggestions, great post!

“I’ve not played my Ranger without the pet but I have noticed there is an option to put away the pet”
You can’t fight without your pet.
You can temporarily put it away, but as soon as you touch a weapon, out it pops.

I want to be a Ranger, not a "Beastmaster, I don’t want an extra thing to micro-manage.
You want the pet, fine keep it, I don’t want the pet, give me the optipon and a buff or extra damage of some sort to compensate for it.

“Most? I think not” and how did you come to that conclusion may I ask ?
Did you have a poll or something ?
Thank you Solid Gold! Exactly how I feel about it! Thanks for the feed back

Totally agree with SimpleKingly. I’m a new player, got this game not so long ago and went straight into the game without playing gw1 or even reading more about the classes. I went on to make a ‘Ranger’ which I was thinking should be highly effective in long range etc. I did expect a pet option and an ability to trait/skill/equip for it to be a sort of a beast master (or whatever u call those) but boy was I surprised to see u cant get rid of it. I do have some gw2 experience as a ranger now and now I think the pets should either be removed in general (with an extra skill or two, or just more passive abilities) or improved dramaticaly because the way they work now is really painful. I am actually disappointed by how much pet-centred this class is and how often u see ur pet getting killed in spvp or wvw simply by getting in the way of someone fighting…
By, ’it’s the mechanic’ of the class, that means it’s the f1-f4 skills
So, imagine how effective a mesmer is without using shatters, or engineer without using overdrives on turrets. As a main ranger, I just hide my pet when i want to run. Even if you do get hit, it’s not like you’ll die while running from two mobs chasing you. And, pets kind of do double your damage (at least, that’s been the case with mine. I can do like 400 with an axe, but my pet does 800 with a peck)

It only does “some” damage when it’s actually alive, many time when it dies and recovers to 80% health it still won’t do anything, whats the point in that.
Are you level 80 yet, done any dungeons or orr ?
I can assure you your pet is going to be dead most of the time, and quite often there’s so much going on you won’t want to be fiddling with your pet trying to actually do something.
Like I said, ranger is my main. I’ve got a good 400 hours on him, swap pets constantly if they’re close to dying, pull them away from mobs. The only really awful times it dies are against mobs like Subject Alpha, but that’s not really a test of strength, just endurance
Yeah you guys all have great points, but still, an option to get rid of the pet system, (Only if the player chooses so), is how it should be. Plain and simple.

Mesmers are effective without shatters. they go Phant build push 3 buttons and jump around waiting for the target to die without even trying.

“Ranger
The ranger class combines its own innate abilities with the skills of their pets. We’ve balanced the class around the idea that you always have a pet with you to aid in any fight. The fact that the ranger can have multiple pets allows them to combine their pets in ways that most impact the current fight. We want the Ranger to have some of the evasion enjoyed by the Thief, as well as the mobility other classes employ. The class is able to deal physical or condition damage, and it can do this in melee or at range."
I really really don’t think they’d have a “no pet” option at this point, it seems it’s A-net’s goal to make ranger a half pet master class. what really draws you guys to ranger that doesn’t revolve around a pet anyways? genuinely curious if it’s a bow, I’m sure you can just default to a bird and just let it fly around while you go pew pew pew.
