I think it would be nice if a Dragon would periodically attempt to brand an area.
Order:
There would be 2 types of areas:

Sounds fun but would probably hard to implement the transformation of all the textures and stuff whilst players are in the zone, if im wrong then this would be a great endgame zone to extend on the branded dragon(kralkattorik?) that you never see in the game. It would also be a pest for bot makers so it should be bot free zone.
Oh and what happens if all areas manage to get branded?
instead of attempting to corrupt an area that would eventually get uncorrupted (which would make cleaning up dragon mess look really easy, when in fact it’s not), increase the corruption of areas where certain DEs fail (especially fights against dragon champions). other than temporarily increased mob density, you could have a myriad of other negative side effects, not unlike the corrupted shrines in orr.
then you’d have to take part in a DE and succeed to re-stabilize the area.
I actually like the idea.
A-net could make the brands appear in the lower populated areas and give some unique rewards for clearing them.
There are already several events in the outskirts of Orr that have something similar.
The environment gets very foggy and brown while colors get washed out. Undead noises and spawns increase tremendously.
As for lower-level zones, I disagree. The whole storyline is about people’s surprise that Zhaitan is spreading influence around. Things get ‘real’ when Lion’s Arch becomes affected. The reason we all go after Zhaitan is because it made the first attack.
If other dragons start attacking lowbie zones willynilly, it undermines the impact of Zhaitan’s actions in the entire storyline.
Perhaps something like this will be implemented when the other dragons become the focus in the future.

Your idea is nice, but maybe both ideas would work.
There would be 2 types of areas:
Perma-Branded Areas could go through various levels of corruption, but uncorrupted Areas might also go through various levels of corruption.
As far as terrain goes, the various levels of corruption could be represented simply by the hue and the characteristic negative energy that permeates these areas.
So you’d have:
Succeeding on an event would move it down in Branded scale.
Failing on an event would move it up in the Branded scale.
