Its really amazing me everytime again and again, how stubborn these “anti-mount” people can be about this feature, that absolutely wouldn’t affect them in the slightest bit!!

And it amazes me especially alot more, when I see always again, how extremely less thoight out their repeating arguments are, always never looking outside of the box being very limitated in their view, not accepting the FACT, that all their arguments are easily counterable by simple design decisions that Anet can make, so that mounts would never be any kind of problem in this game, as they would simple be nowhere usable, where Mounts simple don’t belong to be to ensure, that the game will run smoothly further with them being implemented into this game as an alternative travel method beside using waypoints that can be used also as some kind of collectable prestige item for the fun of that, greatly improving also with them especially for RP’ers the games longevity giving people a new long term goal to play for the game, if they have for example no interest in legendary weapons and such stuff …

Personally I like the idea behind sub classes ~ quoted from Chris Whiteside

Minis can be bought with laurels, which are in-game (some not all) as can some minis be made during holidays (toy ______) so…..

Helicopters? those arn’t mounts those are vehicles. What people call mount is usually an animal of some sort and I hardly call a machine “living”.

They don’t fit lore, because no one ever rides them (npc’s). You don’t see a cutscene with them riding one, you don’t see them in town or in the world riding them. They are always along side the “mount” so no, they don’t fit lore.

Yeah, there Winterdays mini’s where a good example of a way to put them in the game. It’s not the only way but one of them. Laurels is not really one of them. You can also farm gold and buy gems to buy mini’s. But the fun is going for the mni’s them-self.

About the vehicles not being mounts.. Well I gave multiple examples but I would suggest going to google images and search for “Flying Machine mount”. But like I said before, fine then we will not name them mounts we name them vehicles.

“They don’t fit lore, because no one ever rides them (npc’s).” No, The fact that they never ride any of them does not fit the lore. Thats something else.

And about seeing them in cut-scenes. I indeed did not see them ride animals in cut-scenes but I did see them ride animals on this page:

Like I mentioned in my other thread.

Mounts Acquisition
Gemstore
Dungeon Drop
PVE gold

Mounts benefits
33% – 60% speed boost.
Eliminates the need to sacrifice one utility skill slot for a +25% profession speed boost.
Useable outdoors, Dismount upon in Combat.

Don’t like mounts?
Use WP.

Why get mounts?
To Immerse yourself in the world of tyria and not have to WP from point A to Point B with a boring loading screen in between and actually enjoy the view in a timely fashion finding events and people in need en route.

You dont like hunting events or other adventurers and wish to keep the game as solipsistic for yourself, feel free to do so.

Mounts also contribute to a form of End Game collectibles.
Especially if they’re a rare dungeon drop

For the Lore argument, may I add, so someone came up with crudy Lore. You do not have to keep doubling down on it. If a large numbers of customers want something, you give it to them. Or suffer the consequences when someone else does.

If you like GW2 and want it to t last, making it fun and rewarding should be a top priority. If people want mounts, let’s have mounts. For mounts flying up to the VP’s, why not? It’s easy is not an argument. Because there’s nothing wrong with easy!!!!! Especially if it Feels good as you soar up to it on your flying mount.

This is a game. Feeling good and having a great immersive experience should come first. This game lacks in having that….. Especially for an RPG!

See, its things like that that are the reason mount posts are just a futile arguement and shouldn’t be added or discussed. The whole reason of “no to mounts” is because A. it isn’t necessary with asura gates and wp and B. because it makes content even less relevant. Not even sure if your post is to be taken serious…

Do people who want a mount really wana walk from Wayfarer Foothills to the shatterer or jungle wurm? Doubt it because assuming mounts were added, you would soon realize how often you miss things because you were too slow compared to those who just wp’ed. Wp I agree, take away. Especially because there is soo kitten many of them in almost every nook and cranny in every map. Doesn’t mean we should get some furry animal to ride around, should just remove many of the wp. IF you really want the scenic route, to acomplish this one can put on a method of perma movement speed bonus and run. You will be quick, and soak in all the visually stunning places on the way. Why would a mount be any different?

oh, because people want it to grant more movement speed than a player. Thats where I disagree whole heartedly, because now you’re making mounts a necessity not a cosmetic like town clothes. Wp in wvw arn’t that many, and if you add an exclusive bonus like a mount to them again I’ve already said this..

Sure, ground mounts can be added as an aesthetic but nothing more. Also no flying mounts because vistas and overall terrain would be flat out pointless if you can soar over/to them. How would wvw be fair if you could fly over the keep and rain kittens over them? On video it would be hilarious but the forums would explode with “the removal of flying mounts”.

(and the picture is the most kitten arguement ever. Throwing a refuge fleeing scene under the bus? If anything they are riding the doylaks because they are injured and can’t walk well as you can see in wayfarer foothills many of them are limping).

“Do people who want a mount really wana walk from Wayfarer Foothills to the shatterer or jungle wurm?” well if it was up to me they might lower the amount of waypoints when introducing mounts. But to not give the mount-haters yet something else to complain about I also don’t mind if they keep all the waypoints. Anyway, in (my) perfect world there would be less way-points and then yes people would use the mounts more.

The fact that people are in a hurry to get tho those events is because of the dailies and lets be honest, dailies don’t really do what they are supposed to (according to ArenaNet during release) so thats a whole other problem unrelated to mounts.

“to acomplish this one can put on a method of perma movement speed bonus and run. You will be quick, and soak in all the visually stunning places on the way. Why would a mount be any different?” That would indeed work. Why a mount.. well with the same argument I could say if you allow a perma movement speed bonus (something you apparently have not problem with) then why not a mount?

But I can tell you why a mount.. Because it is fun, because it is extra end-content because it is also a nice personalization.

“Also no flying mounts because vistas and overall terrain would be flat out pointless if you can soar over/to them.” this problem also has been fixed in many games. Sometimes you would need to buy a fly license but in GW2 the most logical way to fix this is to only allow fly-mounts on maps you have completed. However for some reason ArenaNet did go for instance based maps (I don’t know why, to be honest I think that was a very bad mistake) in stead of streaming based area’s. To implement flying mounts they would have to change this and that is a big task. So that will take some time. Most likely they will only make flying mounts availible in new area’s that have not yet been released. Same for WvW, if they would introduce mounts in a WvW map it will be a new one, not one of the existing ones.

“buy a flying license” Thats the issue. What if the casual gamer doesn’t want to go out of their way to keep up with the others to get their reward? TRUST me , I don’t think anet should keep the casual gamer moto but thats the verdict. The idea of mounts, I like if it fited. I played ffxi and lotro and I had a mount (ffxi actually had you raise your mount) and it added to the game. I enjoyed the idea of them, but this game doesn’t really support the ideas. Regearding the livings story picture, mounts arn’t appearing. It doesn’t fit the lore because no walking/living/breathing npc has riden an mount. Do I think mounts are irrelevant? No. Do I think they should serve no purpose other than for coesmetics? No, I agree it adds to the game. Looking cool there is nothing wrong. Should we add stat bonuses for having a mount? ABSOLUTELY NO!

I can tell you why flying mounts dont work and why I’m neutral on them
Tyria is not an open world.

To go from one zone to another zone you have to find a hole in the wall.

As far as an OOC Speed bonus with a visual aesthetic, I’m whole heartily for them.
They make the world feel bigger and dont take me out of the game and have to endure a loading screen just to get from one area of the same zone to another because +25 percent speed bonus just doesnt cut it

A lot of gamers, myself included consider collecting mounts their endgame. Also, I miss that soothing feeling I’d get in other mmos when I’m just riding around on my mount, minding my own business and I could hear it’s hooves galloping away especially when paired with epic in game music such as gw2s. Gw2 is a wonderful game, and mounts would make it a 10 in my eyes

I know that we have way points, and mounts are not necessary but it’s just one of those things that make the game for some people. (There are a ton of things in game right now that aren’t needed but people love to have!) I’m not asking for huge ridiculous armored mounts that block your vision. I’m looking for graceful horses that come in many colors (for uniqueness) and maybe have different mane / tail options for people to chose from.

I know people are really worried about people standing on top of npcs with their mounts, and that’s a legitimate concern. I don’t want mounts to disrupt anyone’s game play so I suggest we disallow mounts in major cities and large quest hubs. There could even be a stable outside cities for flavor (maybe even an instanced personal story-esque stable where you could park your horse and pay a lil fee for them to hold it with some cool dialogue!). Stand alone NPCs could have an invisible barrier that dismounts anyone that comes close enough or something.

I know there are many people opposed to mounts, but there are also lots of gamers like me who really really want them. I think if both sides put their heads together we could come up with a solution that could appease everyone

We have cars, but some still prefer to ride bikes, or even horse and carriage…

Some people just want to ride a little slower and watch the scenery…

I really think tyria needs another form of transportation, and I think mounts are the way to do it!

Asurans used that gate as a sort of treaty amoungst the other races when they emerged. Lore stated the other races were neutral towards asurans because of their asuran gates and how much they helped. If you think the other races need some other form of their own travel, then whats the point of asuran gates?

Also the asuran gate is the only way to enter the mists, they are quite handy (lore wise, for conveinience they just made it so you can click the pvp window and port there).

As for mounts in general, they serve no purpose as a speed boost. Cosmetic? I’m sure many agree to have no problem with that. But it shoudn’t offer any boosts towards player stats in any way shape or form. It’d be too exclusive and anyone without a mount in wvw would be frowned upon. In pve, well take your silly mamal I’m gana just port to the event and finish it before you get to the zone even.

I think everyone should get a battlehorse in WvW, maybe higher ranks could get cooler looking ones, but the speed would be all same all around.

Lowbies who don’t have their speed boosts, and certain classes get left behind ALOT and if everyone had a mount it would make things fair. Plus a zerg on their mounts > a zerg on foot, anyday.

The mounts outside pvp for tyria would be the ones you work towards and collect!

Also, Mounts would get more people out in the world. I know there are players like me who would prefer to ride their horse around instead of porting everywhere.

But in gw2, you can’t ride a horse, you could never ride a horse, or moa, or doylak. And horseback zerg being > on foot zerg is an opinion. Personally, an army looks much more threatening to me when they arn’t cowering behind animals. Thats just me though.

Content isn’t explored more because you can look cooler goin there, content is explored more when there is something worthwhile or fun there to do, it’s unlikely people will be riding mounts just to ride mounts, they will likely be trying to go somewhere and galloping past contnet not stopping to enjoy it.

Ah yes, invisible barriers. I’ve heard that one before, and I admit it would work for merchants. But there tend to be quite a lot of players, and quite a lot of NPC’s you can interact with.
I’d kinda want that invisible barrier around the whole bunch of interaction NPC’s,
however, whole lot of players would dislike having to remount constantly.

And around vistas too. When I’m looking from a vista, I tend to screenshot my character, I’m a kind of tourist in that sense.

I’m leaning more towards the speed boosts that most professions get. I think it’s like 25 percent, or maybe 33. Maybe the mounts could trot, and then have bursts of speed like players.

My idea was to have collectable mounts for open world, and also have battlemounts for wvw.

The battlemounts would be given to all players, would have a slight speed increase. I think it would help for lowbies to keep up with the group, or for mesmers who dislike using a focus. It would put everyone on the same playing field speed-wise.
Battlemounts would all look similar. Their armor would represent the color your server is that week. Maybe there could be more extravagant looking ones later for purchase with badges that have your guild banner draped on them. They would still have the same speed though.

Collectable mounts I see as a slower, unarmored horse for riding around leisurely. There could be an array of colors and visual upgrades you could get.

Well, horses aren’t really a part of the lore, unless you traveled way back in time.

Dolyaks? Well, that could be considered as a mounting option, but still… The problem (Pretty much the only problem, if they weren’t allowed in cities or near NPCs) with cosmetic mounts is that it’s slippery slope to more harmful mounts, such as speedbuff or battlemounts.
The maps are designed so that certain areas are a bit harder to reach to reduce farming for example. Helping the players harvesting orichalcum for example would oversupply the orichalcum market.
Give players cosmetic mounts, and you quarantee a bunch of them going to forums with these “brand new” suggestions of letting the mounts have speedboost. Ect.

How bout instead of mounts, go collect polymock pieces?

Are horses extinct?

Well, I sure haven’t seen one in several hundred years in Tyria. Last one I saw some 250 years ago, and that was a necrid one. So… maybe?

As if standing anywhere on the map and being able to teleport instantly to any waypoint without having to be at another one fits the “lore.”

I have a question for you….What would happen if this was true and the only way to use a waypoint was that you had to be standing at another waypoint? Not saying that the beam me up ala Star Trek method could not really work(in theory), just saying would any one oppose the idea of making the waypoints only work when they are connected.

My point was people whine about mounts breaking “lore” and “immersion” when they don’t have a problem with being able to hit “M” and instantly teleport to anywhere in the world.

It’s a bad argument.[/quote]

Asura technology links you to one place and transports you to another in the same manner as an Asura gate but with a fee and far more convenient. If you’d like all races but humans, norn and Asura removed from the game(since by lore charr are demon-worshipping psychopaths incapable of being playable, right? And sylvari have no logical reason to exist, right?), be my guest.

I like raiding and I love mounts…. the only things I liked from WoW, but why would you have mounts if we already have waypoints? That just defeats the purpose to me. It’s like they would have to totally re do the entire game just to add some mounts. And my asura is pretty darn fast…. Don’t need a mount with that li’l guy.

ANet said they didn’t want mounts because that they wanted players to be in the game world. However, many people are not IN the game world because of the waypoints. Running seems to take too long for them.

- Personally, though, if I am to respond to the OP, I’d want some expanding on the vehicle system that ANet has got going on there. The Asura have an elite skill that summons a Hazmat suit, which can be used to fight with.
- I’d like Charr tanks and Asura Golems that are usable vehicles in, say, Orr, because that is where they are needed, and are supposedly present to fight the dragons, hopefully.
- They are like underwater combat. A whole new skill set is provided the player and off you go into battle. And it is limited enough so that it doesn’t ruin the game’s design (Maybe having a charr tank where one player drives while his allies are occupying the turrets would be an idea worthy of consideration)
- It definitely adds some variation to the battlefield, which is something that people seem to want from GW2.

Mounts (as we know them) would be nice to get around the world quicker, if one prefers seeing the sights along the way and not just a loading screen.
- Making ships from Dawnside Quay in Rata Sum go to and from LA wouldn’t be a bad idea either. Also some ships that goes to Fort Trinity would be a nice addition as well.
- The living breathing worlds needs to be set in motion to feel alive, or so I think anyways.

My point is we had map travel before the Asuran’s were introduced into the GW lore with the EotN expansion. Same thing goes for the horses are extinct, Asuran’s Tech would be able to provide a way to get horses back out of extinction, because you can travel though the mists and time travel is rampantly available.

The technology is wrong btw. If any mass transportation system made the passenger already have visited the place he wanted to travel to, then what good does that service provide? In Real Life, people would go into a subway or airport and not know where they could go because they didn’t have the place on the map. And the map itself is wrong too, you should be able to just purchase a map that shows where everything is.

People posts about mounts every single day. Unfortunately they usually start their own threads and those threads get deleted.

Don’t worry though, since the mods said there can only be 1 mount thread, I’m going to make sure it grows by the day, and remains on the front page.

That’s what those of us who wanted appearance tabs in wow did. We bumped a thread for 2 1/2 years until blizzard finally announced transmogrify.

Which just goes to show how much those people care about the community.
They just want mounts, and ignore whatever effect that would have on the game. And make new threads ignoring what that does to the forum.

I’ve counted some 600+ mount threads so far (After that I’ve lost track)… Lucky, most of them have been removed.

Anet itself is more damaging to the game itself than mount threads, I can count on both hands and both feet, friends that have left GW2 and gone to play another game, some of which would have liked to seen gw2 have mounts. So I guess in that view, I could say the same thing about you and that you do not care about the community just your own personal opinion. Yes there is a divide between the community towards mounts! But only one side have I ever noticed has been able to concede to make compromises and that is the pro mount side. The Neigh-Sayers(little pun) never try to compromise, if someone tries to give you a good compromise you will not listen or for that fact try help make a compromise even viable. I do not see why half of the pro mount even try to bend there ideas to please the neigh-sayers, this includes myself.

1. you sure they didn’t warn you (personal message in your GW2 forum profile email)? Because I’ve receive warning before, so I kinda know they do their job properly.

2. if they close it, then that means probably you broke the agreement, or damage their imago. In this case I’d stop this treat, before ban is incomming.

Anyways, since mounts can obviously be somewhat troublesome, and I’m guessing you just mainly want a new collectible set with some prestige and functionality, how bout collecting polymock pieces?

No by all means, was I being hostile, I just like to state facts which might sound mean, but the truth usually does hurt. And if it was that statement that got the thread locked then that was not my intention, I would love to hear your rebuttal and continue the denial(opps! I mean compromising conversation)in this thread. Oh btw if it was me then should I be getting a email? Haven’t seen one yet.

Well, I’m assuming no post was deleted, which would indicate no infraction, hence no email. However, if a mod thought that the thread was moving to a more hostile or offtopic direction, that would explain why it was locked.
I can’t really think of another reason, it’s a shame since I think we were just about make some progress…

Anyways, there are a few problems with mounts, I’ll just restate them quickly, I’m sure you know what I’m talking about:
1. Speedbuff mounts (Easier farming, WvW ruined, basically forces those who do not want mounts get a mount, ect.)
2. Cosmetic mounts (Slippery slope, lack of cohesion among pro mounters, leads to speedbuff mounts)
3. Areas where mounts could be used (I still don’t want a dolyaks behind on my face)
4. What to do when entering combat? Thow the player down? Mounted combat?
5. Tools for elitists players – You don’t have black moa mount? No party.
6. Lore, mounts just don’t seem to fit in the lore on the RPers point of view. (There haven’t been mounted humans for more than 250 years for example.)

Now, I’m sure there was more, but those are what I can remember off the top of my head.

Also, I’d be curious to know why exactly you want mounts?

Do people not get the hint when the last 90000000000 threads were closed that even had the word “mount” in them? I would assume sooner or later they will just hand out infractions to alleviate the shear lack of use of the search function..

I think if both sides put their heads together we could come up with a solution that could appease everyone!

I do not want them banned from towns and outposts…

The Npc’s already have an area around them that is normally referred to as Collision Detection
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collision_detection

When you get into this area you will notice that the Press F button to interact will pop up on the screen. The game already has an area to prevent mounts from standing in the loading zone so to speak. In my earlier draft of this particular compromise, I said that the mount could enter this area and after three seconds if you had not moved it would dismount you even if you are still moving inside the area. So you could pass though the area without being dismounted just for passing by and idiots could not wiggle their controls on top of the Npc to forgo the dismount timer and irritate the nay-sayer.
The only problem is, right now someone can get a tonic that will make them 5 times larger than current size and could sit on top of a Npc just to be annoying if they wanted to and there is no disrobe feature for anyone that keeps that from happening.

If mounts did get a continuous speed buff, mount riders would still want to be riding them in towns.
