Pretty simple. Instead of having an invisible anti-bot/farm code, use a captcha system instead. That way, the bots won’t be able to benefit from their ToS violation and people that are farming legitimately don’t get penalized for it. Instead of the anti-bot/farm code triggering, have a captcha pop up. If the captcha is entered correctly, the anti-bot/farm code does not go into effect.

People might find it intrusive or immersion breaking, but I feel the benefits outweigh any detriment a million to one. If people want to farm legitimately, they shouldn’t be punished for it. The current system in place punishes bots as well as legitimate farmers. It absolutely needs to change, and I firmly believe captcha or a similar system is the answer.

Could be a simple math, mixing Numbers and Letters:

Provide the answer to this calculation in extense (sorry for poor english):
(8 divided by Two) + 4

The right answer would be “Eight” and not “8”.

I supported it then, I support it now.

Report bots. A captcha pops up. Bots are pwned and prevented from logging back in for a set period of time.

Once the captcha is answered you can’t get another for a set period of time (prevents players from getting captcha-spammed).

Well, I would hate it and I’m happy Arena Net chose another way. The current system only has advantages – if you don’t just farm a single spot.

I would hate it… It would bother legit players, and I’m sure the bots would figure some way around it anyway (logout/in when that happens or something).

I prefer they just actively pursue the bots (a real person does it), instead of implementing automatic systems that cannot really discern a bot from a real player and ends up bothering legit players.

I am all for this. The quicker a bot is forced off line the less damage is done. Implement this immediately please. Also have only one captcha every 20-30 minutes is more than good enough.

I hate captchas…always have and always will be…most annoying thing in the internet IMO.
Just imagine you finally got called to WvW after a 2 hour queue but suddenly you feel the urge to go to the bathroom….you take 2 minutes and when you’re back BAM!! you’ve been disconnected

I’d so agree to something like this. Coming from City of Heroes, I didn’t see bots (none that I noticed anyway), but a lot of the content was instanced. Bots here are insane….they are spreading like a virus.

I’m not a PvPer (not a good one anyway)…but I wonder if they could be flagged for PvP if they failed the captcha. Maybe even take x% of all the stuff they were looting for hours (with the devs determining what “x” is of course). Kind of a “Revenge of the Sentient Beings” thing.

I know my friends and I would love to PK (and I use that term loosely) us some bots =D

I hate this idea. I move around a lot and so never encounter the reduced drop rate and I still easily manage to get the things I am farming.

I hate captchas too…..but I hate bots even more. Sometimes you have to pick the lesser of two evils. I’d certainly be open to other ideas that the devs might read/implement that would help in the bot war.
