let us MULTICLASS
One word – NO
Not going to happen.
I thought that the multiclass system from Guild Wars 1 was the thing that made the game kinda boring.
“I thought that the multiclass system from Guild Wars 1 was the thing that made the game kinda borin”
O.o Then you’re alone and kinda backwards.
Multiclassing won’t happen due to the amount of balancing issues a warrior with, say, polymorph to moa from the mesmer elites would cause.
I liked something from Guild Wars regarding Multi-Profession.
A Warrior – Elementalist was different from an Elementalist – Warrior.
Some builds could be available to both, but most weren’t, due to the different kinds of armor they used, and how they could only improve their Primary Professions’s Attributes.
In Guild Wars 2, the distinction would be even more accentuated, as Warrior as the F1-F4 abilities; and the armor would be the “Primary Profession-exclusive” features.
A Necromancer -> Guardian would have the Life Force.
A Guardian – Necromancer would have the Virtues.
That said, I would rather they added several professions, such as Dervish and Ritualist.

Wait..Whaaat?!?! boring ??? it was the best skill system to date imo,and had so much fun trying out new builds, just for the fun of it,going wa/ele or wa/necro etc.It was alot of fun trying out new builds and messing with peoples head seeing your doing something completely different then they are used to see.
I support multi class system, although it would be to difficult to implement atm i think..
no, never, stop making gw2 a combination of gw1 and wow
Please let us not… I don’t want a lot of no-options added to the game, I have to think about.
I love GW1 system, but it felt like it was inspired by magic the gathering and I don’t think mainstream audience likes theorycrafting that much. ;_;
Basically,it would be to difficult for people to choose a build. As so many people used google builds in gw1 since they had no creativity whatsoever…Allright..
Changes to core mechanics are extremely unlikely.
It’s not very clear in your post, but if you suggest to be able to change profession completely, having just one at a time, I don’t see why not, but still unlikely, as the profession is part of the core of the character. It won’t be like changing hair color. It won’t be worse than changing race either, since profession doesn’t affect persona story, but I still do not see it happenening.
f you suggest to have two professions, then we have another problem, as weapons can be shared between profession, there would have to be a way to determine which weapon skill you get with a weapon, or simply only let utility skills to be chosen from the second profession.
But as all skills are balanced to go mainly with the other skills of their profession, this would be troublesome too, since it’ll add countless extra combinations that most people won’t try at all, but a few will try extensively searching for some glitch or overpowered combination to exploit.
So… it’s way simpler and better for balance to keep professions separate, for devs, players and future content.
I think you dont understand him. I think he doesnt want “multiclass” like in gw1 with class x+y mixed like war/necro etc, but he wants “multiclass” so if his char is lvl 80 war he wants to change the war to lvl 80 mesmer, so he doenst have to lvl a other char etc no mixing skill etc just changing class on 1 char
No
’nuff said.
Ummm nope..
Seriously..
I wouldn’t care if players could switch to any class with just one character, but I think players would have an issue of inventory space if they needed to have the armor of all these classes and builds.
No no no… no.
What? No.
i would like the ability to CHOOSE class at endgame and switch it as i wish so i can one day say “hmm wanna play a necro today” and do that and the next play another class while not having to wasted time lvling and exploring everything again once more.
Problems that I see:
- I think this very much runs counter to the design philosophy underpinning the game. We’re given 5 character slots at the outset, with the option to buy more. So, the expectation seems to be that if we want to play another class, we need to make a new character.
- Having multiple class options at the cap is an advantage and an achievement earned through play. Yes, it’s a time investment. As this is an MMO, time investments are pretty important to long-term playability. This probably shouldn’t be trivialized.
- Leveling in a class is one of the big ways in which a player learns how that class operates. This shouldn’t be so easily bypassed. Team endeavors would be plagued by players who didn’t actually know what they were doing with their class.
- Not everyone plays the same way or has the same preferences. Many players would not see leveling and exploring again as a ‘waste of time’. Many players (myself included) enjoy playing and leveling several characters simultaneously. This also shouldn’t be disregarded.

WOW apparently my first post was utterly unclear so trying again.

they added this ability in gw1 where you didnt have to relvl chars to test and play the different classes and this was great in a game where once you actually explored everything you REALLY didnt feel like doing it again with a new char.
think the lvling system is perfect for the first char, but it is utterly horrible for the purpose of relvling new chars. therefore such a system would be really nice to have
I thought you meant having a secondary Profession like in Guild Wars 1.
If what you want is to be able to change Professions like you can Change Specs in WoW, then no. Never. Ever.
No.
Just… no.
Even games that allow you to play more than one class on a single character still require you to level up with that class.
Lock and delete this pointless thread.
AS it is, all classes have a series of weapons you can cycle through changing your play style to supportive, Aggressive Range, Aggressive Melee. Every class has its counter and benefit. And through this, the professions are continuously balanced and tested. There is no need to have multiclass because in a way through the traits and weapon choices you already have a multiclass feel.
