what do you do when the area ou are in is 2/3ds bots?
Make gold account bound with the exception of exchange between NPCs or the TP. That would at least force conversion into to items through crafting, which would definitely handicap RMT because of the variety of items.
I’ve never noticed a bot xD…I really never pay much attention to what others are doing so I have no idea how to spot one.
I’ve seen multiple bots playing as a unit in various areas. They follow each other almost in a line, and truly destroy everything.
They often have relatively large “path” cycles that may make it easier for you to miss them or mistake them for players. Some of their names are even quite acceptable, but their behavior quickly becomes apparent.
The run rampant in WvW also in the water and skritt area.

it’s a bit like diagnosing illness. Not all bots will all do the same things. What you are looking for is a preponderance of symptoms.
things to watch for:
-naked toon or one using crappiest gear available at high level
-toon repeats the same cycle ad infintum and always heads for the exact same points on a route, especially points that are NOT obvious points like easiest place to cross a bottleneck, or a spawn point.
-toon has a random name like ghxxfp
-toon attacks at nothing, teleports and does it again in a pattern.
-several toons following each other on the same route doing exactly the same attack at the same point.
- toon repetitively runs into a wall while casting spells at nothing (this is a big one) usually only happens when toon detects and attacks a mob that has been pushed out of it’s normal spawn point and is close to a ledge. toon will leap down, kill then get stuck trying to run back up.
-rangers with bears. Bears self heal so are the preferred botting pet, and rangers are the easiest class to bot with. you often see 3-5 rangers running in a tight group all wearing more or less the same thing and running with a ton of bears
toon repetitively fires at the same spawn point even when there’s nothing spawning.
If I see 3 or 4 or these I report as a possible bot.

I finally spotted bots yesterday when a guildie pointed them out in Bloodtide. A whole string of rangers with bears chain attacking neutral creatures were running around that large eastern island with a fort on it. Their names were ok but if you clicked to report it gave the account id with names like dja;fdoawdp.3765 (totally random keyboard mash there, not an actual player).
I’m not sure what they gain by attacking wild boars, but idiot behavior like that is a good clue. When I see someone solo acting very oddly and mechanically I’ll ping them with a whisper and also talk out loud at them. If they respond, no report (and possibly even some surprise RP as happened once). Not that I’m a report-happy buffoon looking for people to write up! I usually have something better to do. Only when it gets in my face do I take action.
Its bad everywhere I report 30 plus bots every day between the 3 zones where the orichalcum nodes spawns. I have reported one group of them every day that I have been on for the last two weeks but again every day there they are again. The largest group I have seen had between 12 and 18 bots in it hard to count with that many. Took me 20 min to report them because there names were so similar. IMO it would take a dev a whole day on just one server to run around spot and ban these guys. Arena Net is obviously not following up on reports of botting because I know for a fact I have reported this one group at least 7 times over a couple week span. Heck you would think it would be in their favor to ban them, then they would have to go buy another copy of the game money in arena nets pocket to pay for another dev who just runs around banning bots. Sorta like one of those small town cops where the town is basically a speed trap and speeding tickets pay for this salary…..
Although I don’t approve of botters, some lower level areas could actually use their help as population is not that high, especially if there is DE.
I think a suitable action will be to warn them first, after 3-5 days if it still continues, then something has to be done as it is an insult to the game and other real players. Probably ban for 1 week first.
What are they looking for anyway, just power level with bots? Some have funny names that I think nobody would want too lol.

@Evoked: i dont think its funny and bots has driven away most of my guildies and friends from this game, i everyday wake up hoping the will ban them all (perma hyper banned, something along 1000 years ban)
Its discouraging ive work so hard for the little i got and still whenever i am in an event i have to see 10+ botters just running around destroying everything, economy along with it.
its is ENOUGH come on Anet its almost 2 months into the game and yet i see more bots every day.
For the love of god only 1 GM ONLY 1 gm, make 1 of your staff jump into an area and say /m any bots here, im banning them.
not only people will point out location of every single botter but it will also restore hope in the game. if its not too late.
