CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls
1. Implementing GvG ysing the guild halls as bases
2. Usefulness for smaller guilds
3. Access to guild halls can be given to guests who want to check out the guild( can only be done by high ranking officers, maybe like a 30 min buff that allows them to go in to the guild hall. What if there is a portal that then prompts a list of of guild halls with a search function and if that person is in the guild or had been given the buff they msy enter that guild hall
Edit: during gvg the guild halls will be used as bases with terrain in between and what ever gets destroyed of your hall has to be replaced with full costs
I think the “join in” feature for parties could be modified if you wanted people to check out your hall.
yes but that power still needs to be for the higher ups, otherwise u can get new members just taxing people in to your hall
Was just thinking – above and beyond just merchant access what about “activity” access such as Keg Brawl. Always thought guilds may enjoy -private- activity access.
While a personal hall of monuments type feature would be cool (in player housing) maybe guild asura gates (like fotm) that let you travel to another player’s ‘housing’ (who is in your party) if we get player housing someday :]
Also cool music options and a beach so you can afk in here all day ….

Hi Sim,
Not sure what you mean, can you elaborate please?
Chris
Pretty sure he meant “launch” instead of “lunch”. And forgive me if I’m being presumptive, but I’m guessing you guys have records of the discussion of gvg and guild halls and what not, possibly even a written plan of intent, but recognize that once it’s time to implement a new system, it’s silly to just blindly follow concepts you come up with in the very beginning with a different team of people. That’s how things like the How I Met Your Mother finale happen, and it just makes the world a darker place.
I, for one, appreciate that you are doing this and hope it makes you feel more inclined to consult the community when working on other things. An impromptu CDI/brainstorming thread will always get the attention of the people who care.

I would personally love to see guild halls that are obtainable by guilds of ANY size, even if it’s just a couple of friends. Right now the merit system makes some rewards nearly unobtainable for guilds that are very small, and not being able to obtain something without joining a large guild seems very prohibitive.
Guild halls should probably also contain vendors and features similar to those found in GW1, (hire NPCs to be placed within that each offer services, setting your hall location, etc) and if locations can be chosen then I’d love to see that represented within the world itself, such as having a guild hall instance entrance in most (if not all) zones. That way people can choose their favorite zone to hang out in.
I would also like to see alternative methods of earning things for guild halls, such as gold / merits / gems / karma. That way people could help their guild obtain/improve their hall with whatever resource they tend to obtain during play, this way we’re not discriminating against certain types of play styles.
Ok cool let’s start it of then Donari:
Note these are my personal top three priorities:
1: The ability for guild members to be able to show of their prowess and achievements through Guild Halls and their own avatar customization.
2: The ability for players to work together in a fun way to build something different and exciting.
3: The ability for smaller guilds to enjoy guild halls.Chris

Top 3
- Customizable Guild Halls
- Ability for small/medium sized guilds to be able to obtain all upgrades
- Guild Halls affect the world (PvE/WvW/PvP)
My top three priorities:
1) All features equally accessible to small guilds.
2) Different styles of halls based on region, accessible through each zone in that region.
3) Customizable – changeable arrangement of rooms/decorations; changeable wall/floor colors, furniture etc
I don’t think we should release Guild Halls without GvG. One has to go with the other in my opinion.
But then Guild Halls would just become PvP maps (like GW1) rather than an actual Hall/building for your guild to hang out in.
Like I’ve mentioned in the past: what if once your guild is matched up to an opposing guild, both guilds have their Guild Halls act as the ‘bases’ at opposite ends of the map. So you would be able to choose a map to fight on, and be able to see each of your unique Guild Halls too by placing them at either side of the map.
Top 3 Priorities:
1. Small guilds have reasonable access to Guild Halls. (I feel like the earlier-implemented GW2 Guild Missions failed this and I don’t want to see smaller guilds excluded from Guild Halls. In GW1 a dedicated small guild could achieve a full guild hall with enough work).
2. Guild halls exist as instances off of existing open-world zones. (Which entrance your guild selects determines what the instance inside is, so if there’s one off of Snowden Drifts, any guild that uses that location has the same base instance inside. Of course, they can customize it from there).
3. Ability to customize Guild Hall instance into a base of operations for a guild. (Bare minimum baseline: all the things you could add to a GW1 Guild Hall – merchants, other NPC’s, etc.).

I do like this idea. However …
A couple more CDIs down the road will be the GvG one. If they’re only now having a CDI on Guild Halls, it’s a safe bet that they’ll not be far enough along with making them that they can’t take into account the suggestions they gather from the GvG CDI thread when it happens.
The only way THAT could happen is if they’re already working on Guild Halls and have no real interest in what we have to say here or in the GvG CDI. And if that was the case, then it’s too late already anyway. So, best to hope that the CDIs are for real and save the GvG stuff for the correct CDI.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.

Yeah I know a GvG CDI is planned for the future but I’m really just disagreeing with the notion that right now, Guild Halls should be considered with GvG in mind. My suggestion was try and provide a solution to not involving GvG specifics yet, and give the people who think they should go hand in hand a different perspective.

Hummm, good point. I’d be upset if my non-PvP guild has to sacrifice most of our guild hall to GvG functions. Better to make it clear that they shouldn’t be too strongly linked right from the start.
And for the GvG-asking players that might say “If you don’t want to GvG, then you don’t need a Guild Hall”, you really don’t want to think that way. The wider the appeal of the Guild Hall system, the greater the percentage of the playing population that will use it, and the more that use it the more cost effective it is to create it as content. That goes double for improving it down the line, just look at the current lack of work on dungeons to see what happens when they feel not enough players enjoy a part of the game.

I disagree with this.
Lets say one unlock is do 5 guild runs of Fractal 50 to completion. This is quite a challenge it is something not all guilds will do and also takes quite a bit of time to even get to that level.
Now if it is also obtainable for 120g/800gems, you have immediately destroyed all value in the achievement it is now worth approx 10e based on gem conversion and obtainable by every newbie fresh out of the farrar. Karma and merits are no better really, any guild will eventually be able to amass that and it changes it from being an accomplishment to a time gate.
It doesn’t discriminate against play styles it rewards all playstyles with their own rewards. It may be what finally motivates someone to get their group to F50 or the push that gets someone to try fractals for the first time.
Improvements/items for your guildhall should be rewards, and rewards are given for doing something well and worth being rewarded. If a player wants to farm gold with a train all day thats fine, but they are already being rewarded they don’t need to be getting guild rewards too.
Please don’t try to reduce everything in the game to get x gold it destroys the motivation and need for players to improve or try new things. It also removes rewards for being good at something if any randomer can just buy it.

Top 3
these are the 3 points from my original post’s overview on page 7
1. High level of customizability allows all GH’s be unique, giving members ownership/pride.
- GH design/layout
- Numerous items that you can place in your GH
- Achievement displays for accomplished guild individuals, or achievements accomplished by the guild
2. Progression in terms of building up your GH
- Regular items that require saving up guild influence to purchase blueprints
- Unique items that require saving up ‘guild materials’ rewarded for doing guild achievements
- Physically progressing your GH:
- Approaches 1&2: expanding your GH by upgrading either the size of your block of land, OR upgrading how many ‘room blocks’ you can have.
- Appoach 3: expand your GH along ‘themes’ with set stages. E.g.
- Mansion: small house—>medium house—>small mansion—>large mansion (even bigger than Caudecus’s Manor?)
- Castle: (I’m thinking WvW types of buildings here). Camp—>tower—>keep—>castle.
- Airships: Small airship—>large airship—>multiple airships (up in the air that you can jump to and from)—>to something as big as Wintersday’s “The Toymakers Airship”?
3. Allow GH’s to come alive, bring different communities together
- Throw parties/tours/events – show off GH
- Have lots of activities/games
- Make GH’s the ‘go to’ spot for fun events
My personal top 3 priorities:
- Progression: I want to have a long journey when building GH, I want it to encourage me to do different things and explore the world.
- Utility: I want the Guild Hall to have meaningful features, that improve my experience playing the game, going from convenience to granting access to new content.
- Visual Integrity: I don’t want the world of Tyria become a creative Minecraft server, I like customization, but I also like to have my immersion.
My personal top 3 priorities:
1. Guild Hall should have access to WvW, PvP and you can start GvG from there.
2. All the services: Crafting stations, Bank access, Guild Bank access, Black Lion Trading Company, all the vendors, Karma Vendors, Token Vendors, Laurel vendors ect.
3. All the members should be shown in there. Last logged Character. And highest place Guild founder. If the founder is left from the Guild, founder should be shown on the wall like painted picture. No matter is it corridor or room where shown these members.

Chris
I mean that if there is a CDI on a subject, it means that you don’t work on it, or plan to work on it, or is even on your internal roadmap. So we know we won’t have guild halls, gvg and raids for at least 2015, and that you maybe will discuss the subject internally in 2016. That’s why i’m curious to see the subjects of CDI, because we won’t have them in long term and probably never. We don’t know what you do and what you will implement in the next months, at least we know what you don’t do with the CDI.
More than a little aggressive there, chief. Also really, really off topic. But to extend, one more post:
Chris, I’m sorry, maybe you need to sit down with Gaile and Jon . . . and do that list you alluded to before this CDI about things from CDIs which made it into the game? And better make it a full list with details on what the request was, how you interpreted it, and why it didn’t exactly match.
Because this . . . this stuff is getting out of hand and it’s only going to make trying to do anything a joke running into the adversarial attitudes like this example here.
Anyway, that’s a wrap on the CDI for me, I’m off to try figuring out my latest purchases of Ars Magica on Amazon and how to work with them

Yes, and so much yes.
We do want guild halls, a little place for us guildies to hang out.
No, we do not want to buy the guild hall trough merit badges(unless an additional system is added for smaller guilds)….
I think one of the more important things about a guild hall is the personalization, too make it feel like a home.
If possible, give guild leaders a tool to make their own guild maps, or use a pre made one.
So imagine this, you start with an empty space, you can place a few exisiting props, then if you and your guild mates invest in it, you can travel around the world, collect common and rare props, trophies and other goodies.
I think decorating our own guild halls would be awesome.
But either way Anet, i think the majority of the player base would accept a guild hall feature.
Also added:
My top 3 guild hall priorities.
1. Not having it Merit Badge oriented, as that system so far is difficult enough for small guilds.
2. All the services you would normally get elsewhere.
3. Free for all PvP arena for the guildies to mock about in.
(edited by ZidZabre.7256)
hi guys!
Top 3 guild hall priorities :
1. No merit badge for bases, i’m not against buying some little features with it(like mini-games), but i think making badge a core money for GH is bad (hard to get for small guild+think about WvW/PvP only guilds who hates pve)
2. Off world instance : someone said he doesn’t want gw2 world to look like minecraft creativ map, i agree. But no problem on GH map looking like part of gw2 world (like in gw1)

1) All the services: Crafting stations, Bank access, Guild Bank access, Black Lion Trading Company, all the vendors, Karma Vendors, Token Vendors, Laurel vendors ect.
2) Customizable Guild Halls
3) Visual Integrity: I prefer to instantiate, to avoid having a housing problem as Archeage.
1. Guild halls for everyone! I thin every guild should get a extremely basic guild hall with little to no effort even if its just a empty instance. with one npc to interact with to start progression (if progression isn’t in the guild window)
2. progression and customization I would love to see everyone start off with a shanty guild hall space that thew progression they can customize to fit there needs I feel that these to aspects go hand and hand. and the more progression you do the better hall you get (my thoughts on progression is that it takes elements from all aspects of the game dungeons, fractals, living world, wvw, pvp, ect.) and that the progression system leads to customization. maybe even expand the guild mission system to include these other game types all the wile lowering the cost of acquiring the ability to run guild missions for smaller guilds.
3.any system that promotes guildys working together to help the guild progress
Chris……we lost Percy man…lordy mercy we lost Percy
As long as the guildhalls are able to be made even by the smallest guild with no strings attached, I don’t care what else happens to how they are implemented. I am more concerned for player housing.
Top three priorities:
1. A guild hall that feels unique for my guild (visually or mechanically or both)
2. A guild hall that works for multiple size guilds, not too easy or hard (like with achievements instead of influence)
3. A guild hall with a story (visual representation of building process and activity inside the guild hall)
An instance without chance of a zerg should be able to handle more NPCs – I hope more “fun” NPCs will be one way the guild hall will feel “alive”.
PS thanks for doing this CDI – I, for one, deeply appreciate the opportunity to share my thoughts on long term goals with folks actually directing the game. It benefits everyone, I think.

I want to convey my top priority for Guild Halls. I have only one priority:
1. Guild Halls should not make GW2’s fantastic open world empty.
If guild halls are instanced and guild halls are easy to acquire and guild halls have useful functionality than I think that can have significant negative impact on the game.
Guild halls worked great for GW1 because GW1 was a heavily instanced game. There was not much negative impact by segregating population in guild halls.
Guild Wars 2 on the other hand is an open world game and from what I have seen it is a game that is trying to focus more on open world than any other them-park MMORPG that I have played. I consider Guild Wars 2 to be one of the best games I have ever played precisely because of its focus on open world content.
I would like to argue that guild halls do not have a place in guild wars 2. Just because Guild Halls were great for GW1 does not mean they will be great for GW2 even if players want guild halls.
If Guild Halls were introduced in GW2 and they did not had any useful functionality than most players will be disappointed, on the other hand if Guild Halls were introduced in GW2 and they did had useful functionality than I am afraid that the core of GW2; the open world; will be severely damaged.
I think I am too late to this thread to give a proper in depth suggestion but I would say this that we should also think about what would be the replacement of guild halls in GW2 rather than just focusing on implementing guild halls. I do see some suggestions that point in that direction but they are far too few.
A replacement of guild halls that works for GW2 would in my opinion be something that included everyone, guilds and players. My guild halls replacement for GW2 would be player build cities, which players work together to build and upgrade. Guilds and player contribute towards its continuing safety and prosperity and call it their home.
I wish I had time to give to this thread earlier before the discussion had narrowed down. I stayed away from participating earlier as I had no interest in Guild Halls, but seeing the suggestions made me realize that guild halls IMO might damage what makes GW2 great and so I am here.

Check out here and pick your 3 favorite ideas.
You can have a partial summary by theme (instead of by page) here
Make sure your friends/guildmates etc… get involved in this CDI. We need YOU to help the devs make the game better.
There needs to be a Cantha themed GH since we will likely never get Cantha itself :/
The merchants should be former Canthan GW1 heroes and guild lord is Shiro Tagachi with his epic dual blades
I decided before I dug into my Top 3 priorities that I’d re-read the entire thread to get a general sense of everyone’s opinions and make my choices based on what’s important for housing in general, rather than spout off three reasons that support my personal views. I’m sure everyone is well aware that the Official Forums make up a very small (and disproportionately vocal) part of the player base, so I was specifically on the look out for posts that might have been lost in the shuffle; the quiet, unassuming comments that represent a view that the general noise of the Official Forums drowns out.
That seems like a lot of setup for what is essentially a pretty predictable and dull Top 3, but these really are my top priorities when it comes to Guild Halls. That they’ve been mentioned before simply means that they’re worth repeating.
1. Functionality / Purpose
If there is no reason to visit a guild hall, then it is simply a geegaw, a pointless ornament you unlock, admire once and then never bother with again. It is essential that Guild Halls have a practical purpose that justifies the investment of time and resources spent by both the developers to implement them and the players to unlock them. They cannot be purely cosmetic and they cannot be elaborate trophies. There need to be reasons for players to not just visit the guild hall (to pick up a quick buff or something, for example) but utilize it in some way. Some activity or function must be present that players want to stop and spend a moment doing on a regular basis (but not so vital that they feel it is mandatory!).
2. Social Elements
This CDI has repeatedly stressed how important it is that Guild Halls not take players out of the game world, allowing them to create private spaces (not necessarily instanced!). However, I don’t feel that’s enough; the mechanics behind guild halls must be designed with an eye towards community interaction. Putting Guild Halls into neighborhoods that share a common space means those guilds are interacting together. Having ways in which guilds work with the community at large to the benefit of both is important. Inviting non-members into their hall should be something guilds want to do, not just to show off but because there are gameplay elements that promote social interaction instead of isolation. Without digging into specific suggestions, all I can say is that the worst possible outcome for Guild Halls, from a social standpoint, is that only guild members care about them.
3. Customization
Guilds are diverse, so their Halls should be as well. Simply having a singular structure, or even a small variety of structures, will likely not be sufficient enough. Some have suggested that guild halls be built brick-by-brick, Minecraft-style, though that seems fairly implausible. My own suggestion of modular rooms that are fit together may be too ambitious as well. But it is essential that players have the tools to give the hall a personal touch beyond their guild symbol displayed on some banners. This extends inside as well; there must be a variety of furniture and decorative elements that can be freely placed within the hall to allow guilds a way to make their Guild Halls unique.
Final Thoughts
- Thanks for a great CDI folks (both developers and players). There were far fewer unpleasant people than I expected given that these are the Official Forums, and most of the discussion was forward-thinking with very little of the ugly Armchair Game Designer-type commentary (i.e. “My idea is the best ever, I deserve the credit, let’s talk about that instead”). I do not have high hopes for the Raid and GvG CDIs as the communities that are built up around those two activities have a lot more baggage than Housing-type people, but we’ll see.
- There are a few things that would have been worth including into my Top 3, except that I consider them to be no-brainers. And yet I’m going to mention them anyways!
- Instance vs. Open World, because that’s going to be a technical hurdle first and a design hurdle second. However it shakes out, the pitfalls will be addressed and this CDI has provided enough suggestions on how to do so.
- Guild Halls must be a platform from which additional content can spring, like Fractals / Missions / etc. I’m fairly sure there is a huge sign somewhere in ArenaNet HQ that says this.
- Concerns about small guilds being able to participate have been addressed quite thoroughly, to the point that I don’t feel the need to point it out as part of the Top 3. I’m confident that the discussion we’ve had was unnecessary (though important to the CDI as a whole), as one thing ArenaNet is fantastic at is ensuring content is inclusionary to as many play styles as possible.
- A big thanks to VodCom.6924 for wading through and summarizing things.
(edited by Retro.6831)
Ok, top 3 priorities for me:
1. That guild halls be pretty easily available to guilds of all sizes.
2. That it provides a reason to be in a particular guild such as being able to GvG with
them and able to enjoy any other benefits that go along. I always thought that GvG
was the main reason to be in a guild in GW1 – everything else you could do without
being in one including playing with friends from all different guilds!
3. That basic amenities are pretty easily available to guilds of all sizes such as crafting
stations. Perhaps a little more influence (or whatever other currency to be used)
could be used to add extra luxuries if a guild desired it.
Thanks
A bit late into this topic. Tried to read some of it. And sorry if I’m posting more than i should. Would like to voice my ideas on this topic after reading some suggestions. And sorry for mentioning alliances.
The Village and the House
My idea is a village or town, on a floating island within the mists. A village or town is made up by the people that inhabits the place, just like a guild is made by the members. So a member who is part of a guild will have its house physically projected at a certain spot within the village, with an access portal/door to enter.
Each individual player is responsible for their own house. Everyone has the same possibilities for their house available. This housing system within a guild/alliance village permits the owner of a house to move from one guild to another without losing their house and it’s properties within that house. Instead their house will be placed in another village of the guild/alliance they have joined.
Village Progression
Of course there should be ways to progress your guild/alliance village or your own house. First of all, it should be possible to progress your village through all types of game play. PvE, WvW and PvP. Some should have higher or more prestige than others. Guild/Alliance specific activities should be better rewarded in such a way so that skill will overcome numbers. Reward tracks for specific content like we now have for PvP could be used.
House Progression
Your achievement points should be reflected by your house. So the more points you have the more ways you can decorate or customize your house. Within guild wars 1, the hall of monuments was a popular place that showcased your achievements, and I had friends who were happy to show me their hall of monuments because they were proud of what they achieved. It would be nice if our own house could somehow reflect our achievements like the hall of monument did. Of course our own house should be more interesting compared to a simple hall and should have more purpose. Beside the achievement points it should be possible to customize certain things with gems or gold.
Features
I’m pretty bad with making up features, but here are some examples, starting with my most wanted one. But surely others have given plenty good ideas on features.
- GvG
A new type of PvP should be introduced. One that I know many would wish for, even without guild halls being introduced. This is GvG in an organized PvP content type. A seperate leaderboard for the best guild/alliance can be created. And a separate reward track that reflects the success of your guild/alliance and translates into prestige rewards for your guild/alliance village. GvG, 20vs20. This type of content is probably for another discussion however. But my idea of GvG objectives can range from a battle royale or as a capture the flag with use of siege and limited supply.
- Pvp Arena
Having access to your guild/alliance arena from within the village (of course same concept and purchase as within PvP now)
- Guild Missions
Somehow guild missions should be part of both progression but also as new content within this village with a certain event (i.e. your village is attacked by steam creatures).
- Bonuses
Benefits should be given for owning a village. So every member of that village has the same access to the bonuses it gives. An example of what I’d love to see is that you can farm certain plants within your house. Every house owner can farm their own crops, depending on how many and which kinds will depend on the guild/alliance village your house is part of. Or have a communal/shared farming ground within the village, shared mine and a shared tree yard.
Merging / Alliance
It should be possible for any guild to merge their “village” with another. This would solve the problem of small guilds falling behind. The guild with the most progression made will be the one you can move to. Merging to a village with less progression wouldn’t make sense. This merge enables an alliance between the guilds that are part of the same village (Mist Alliance).
With a “Mist Alliance” you can make guild missions broader, and do them with the alliance so it’s easier for smaller guilds to participate in every guild specific activity as alliance activity.
Multiple guilds
Of course, some people are part of several guilds. So how will it decide which village you enter? The guild you represent is the village you’ll enter. You won’t be able to change guilds within the village. Also the benefits you gain from one village, will not be accessible if the same or lesser benefits are available in another village you have access to for that same period of time those benefits are available. Your house will always remain the same one no matter in which village you are with your house.
small crazy idea to give incentive to do content with guild-mates: shared loot
Grouped players (from a guild) don’t have only access to their own loot but their party-member’s loot as well. You have to choose which one’s loot you’ll take for your own BUT the loot is still free to take for everyone else in your party as a copy.
Example: group of 3
player A: green hammer, lodestone, blue chest, junk, junk
player B: yellow spear, blue hat, t6 mats
player C: green gloves, green sword, t6 mats, junk
I am player A. I can choose which one’s loot I’ll get. I choose player B’s loot: yellow spear, blue hat, t6 mats are mine now.
Player B chooses his own loot and gets the same stuff as well.
Player C chooses the loot from player A as he can use the lodestone.
(I’ve made this suggestion in the RNG-thread already since I think it could also work for normal groups)
I agree with all of these but my top priority is that there is no “maintenance” or “rent”. I love customization and would love to use the Housing in LotRO but even though I have played that game since Beta I refuse to do housing because it has “rent”. I don’t like the threat of losing something I put a lot of time and effort into.
I also hope we can have personal housing that is not connected to a specific guild in case you are no longer in the guild at some point.

Sorry to always be on the negative side but:
I feel that would be too open to abuse and only further encourage mindless farm mentality.
TL/DR: effectively quintuples the drop rate for any item you want.
I’m assuming this would be limited to chests only right? Otherwise it would be extremely overpowered for farmers it would practically guarantee a T6 a kill and in general would amount (in a maxed magic find party) to 1500% magic find or more I believe 5 rolls of 300% is more effective than 1 roll at 1500% (I’m a little rusty on my probability)
Even then from chests, what if someone gets a precursor? or if they’re running Aether path and get one of the ultra rare weapons heck even COE can you imagine practically always getting a charged loadstone? it would both cause mass inflation and devaluation of rare drops.
Plus it doesn’t solve or improve RNG it maintains the same system but with a higher drop rate except that a solo player is now at a substantial disadvantage..
11x level 80’s 80+ Titles 2600+ skins , still a long way to go.
My top priority would be that guild halls return as, or heavily worked into, GvG battle spaces.
Even if the GvG we’re talking about is some ultra-casualized format, for example just skirmishing option (without ladders etc.), that would be a good start.
But I find the martial aspect of guild halls centrally important.
Another idea: You could upgrade the defense structures of your guild hall, like adding draw bridges, traps, etc.

For the start only for chests, yes… but not necessarily if they can implement it in a good system. I think it’s not 1500% magic find but I’m also not very good at maths. If I remember my last 5 times when opening a chest, I didn’t magically see that “awesome” drop at my 5th chest. Getting better things… is that really bad when you look at the current drops?

Yes, if one is lucky enough to get a precursor, everyone would be free to share that luck. Is this really that bad? Imho quite the contrary, people would be extremely happy that someone else got the pre and they would get it as well… a team-effort. It’s not like precursors are flooding the market, the chance is still very low to ever see such a drop in a group.
devaluation of such ultra-rare drops? Yes please. Reward group effort, so that players are really happy to see other players, maybe even in the open world (would need a new kind of UI for this).

An associated risk with this idea is loot inflation and power creep. And this is something that will be highly skewed toward zerger farms and will disadvantage solo players a lot.
I do understand that you want to improve loot systems and make them less frustrating. If you want to get in this type of research, I suggest you look at DKP loot systems and the classic loot systems
TL; DR : Marcus, don’t try to reinvent the wheel when someone has already designed a car.
And we are derailing the thread here.

The first step in improving the loot is to make most Account bound on acquire and Soul bound on acquire items (like ascended rings and fractal weapon skins) PARTY BOUND so party members can distribute them among them freely and without consequences (they are “useless” items anyway)
We can tweak and improve the system once this is done and go from there.
I am not one to go into too much detail (I believe designers can do a lot better than me), but here is my 2 cents.
1) GVG – Guild halls need this (it is guild wars after all), but I believe that it shouldn’t be just capture points or zerg fests. Think back to gw1 and how there was the main fight, split teams, and objectives; expand on those ideas.
2) Like others I think that it would be a bad idea to put too many merchants into the guild hall. Maybe limit it to just a normal merchant, and a guild bank (after all the guild should be able to access its own bank). You could also put in a guild merchant that makes fun items to play around with in the guild hall. You don’t want to take people away from the open world.
3) Player housing – A doorway that leads to a instanced player house area; where players can customise it to their likeing and has the upgrades from their home instance. I think player housing needs its own CDI (my bad if there already is one).
Edit:
4) Intergrate the guild halls into the world so you can see them in the distance and can walk up to a portal to enter your one; have guards or something block you from the others unless you are a guild leader shopping for a new hall.
