There was a whole discussion going on before about guild-chat however I think this suggestion was not talked about yet.

Proposal Overview
Chat-channel based on ranks.

Goal of Proposal
Easy communication mainly for leaders / officers.

Proposal Functionality
Being able to create a guild chat-channel where you can select ranks that have access to it.

Associated Risks
It might become a little confusing for the people in that channel because will they get a new channel? Or do they need to create the same channel with those same ranks? Or do they see that chat form that channel in there normals chat-channel but with different colors or an icon? Something to brainstorm about.

Proposal Overview
Having a MotD that pops up in the chat when a member log in but also a second message that has more information (and the MotD possible links to) and being able to set times to the MotD.

Goal of Proposal
Being able to better inform guild-members about things.

Proposal Functionality
Being able to have a small more temporary MotD that pops up to inform people about something and is maybe even activated (and deactivated) by a timer set by the leaders.

Meanwhile also having a more detailed message that does not fill up the chat. Besides that might also have a specific place for information as ’guild-site, teamspeak adres and so on)

Associated Risks
None.

Proposal Overview
In the chat showing if a member joins or logs out or reach level 80 and maybe some other information.

Goal of Proposal
More bounding between members. People can welcome new members or congratulate members for reaching a goal but also know what other people are up to (giving them maybe idea’s to do the same)

Proposal Functionality
Simply showing those messages in the chat. Possible giving leaders the option to decide what is shown and what is not based on a predetermined list of options.

Associated Risks
Some members might not want to see that information popping up especially of leaders would select everything. This can be fixed by allowing members to not see this or filter themselves what they would like to see and what not. (same list as the leaders have for the guild)

Guild-calendar options. The calendar has been suggested before, this are just some additional option.

Proposal Overview
Having the ability also for members to create events where other members can sign up to. When setting up an event you can set requirements like profession, race, level and maybe a max number of participators for an event.

Goal of Proposal
Having a good way for members to organize things with the guild.

Proposal Functionality
Possible based on ranks letting members themselves also add events on the guild-calendar and making setting like I detailed in the Proposal Overview.

Associated Risks
None. (I did create a system like this on our guild-site and have had no problems expect that many members don’t go to sites. And that one problem would be solved by having this ingame)

I see a lot of talk about alliances. Two questions on that front:

1) What functionality would you like to get out of an alliance?
2) What makes you want alliances?

I’ll try to answer them myself.
1) Ability to play content that is made for larger guilds. Ability to connect some of my guilds and have them be able to chat together without the commitment of being in the same guild.
2) My guild is small and there is not enough content for small guilds. I think we could make more small guild content too which would help alleviate the need for alliances.

I want alliances because my alliance in GW1 started in 2007. We were all stoked that we were going to come over here as an alliance. People have attachment to their guild though as well. What happened? 4 of the guilds went their own way. 2 of those folded back into my guild again because they felt being around everyone was a better idea than being separate, but people shouldn’t have even had to make the choice. They should be able to keep their guild AND be a part of a bigger social structure. If Alliances get to come back it means we can have Alliance chat again and it’s win/win all the way around.

Not to derail the thread but since you asked, for me personally, the two biggest things GW1 has over GW2 are build templates and Alliances. I don’t think you guys understand what a big deal it was for a lot of us when this game came out and Alliances didnt make their way into this game from GW1.

Proposal Overview
Exporting a list of all members including character names and information to a file (json or some other format). Possible even with the API but this would require a guild to be able to set a password.

Goal of Proposal
Having better tools for showing this information on a guild-site.

Proposal Functionality
Simply add the function (in the game-settings or in a Api) to export the guild-list / roster with all characters from all members and information like race, rank, craft.

Associated Risks
Not useful for not so technical people and when using the Api requires secutiry.

CDI- Guilds- Logistics and QOL

Devata.6589

Proposal Overview
In the Api have the option to export real-time information to see what guild has claimed what WvW camps / towers / keeps / castle. But maybe also other information.

I do hope guild will get more stuff to do being it WvW or in other ways. Thats for now out the scope of this CDI but information about those things might also be available in the api.

Goal of Proposal
Having better tools for showing this information on a guild-site. But also making more reason to claim and giving members more a feeling of achieving something with there guild.

Proposal Functionality
Add a function to the api to get (open) information about a guild. For now that would be mainly what they have claimed in what WvW maps.

Associated Risks
Maybe security. The information is already available by simply going into the map so I don’t see it as a big thing but if Anet would disagree then simply give a guild the option to hide this information or put it behind a password.

Proposal Overview
Members should be able to stack in the guild-bank without having to first take it to there inventory.
(The way it works now looks more like a bug to me but it’s been this way ever since beta)

Goal of Proposal
QoL for members when putting things on the guild-bank.

Proposal Functionality
When a member puts something in the guild-bank that can stack, let it stack.

Associated Risks
None I can think of.

Transfer influence from one guild to another guild.

Goal of Proposal
Helping smaller or befriended guild.

Proposal Functionality
An option for leaders / owner / creator only (for security reasons) to transfer influence from one guild to the other.

Associated Risks
Misuse. So it might be useful to lock this functionality to a max of 2 members or only the creator of a site.

Proposal Overview
Exporting mails to a file.

Goal of Proposal
QoL for guild leaders and officers for saving mails without having to type them over manually.

Proposal Functionality
Guild leaders and officers might get a lot of mails from members. Some of those mails might be useful to save for later however the maximum number of mails is very limited. So being able to export them would be a great option. Likely also for non guild-leaders and officers but I think thats a group who would benefit here a lot form.

Associated Risks
None.

Proposal Overview
Being able to set a welcome mail for new members and the option to add items from a stack saved somewhere.

Goal of Proposal
Giving new member automatically a nice welcome gift and some information that might be usefull.

Proposal Functionality
An option to stack items somewhere (micro bank) and set a mail that every member who joins the guild for the first time. The items stacked there can then be used to as one of to that mail. (until the stack is gone).

Associated Risks
People starting to join mails only for this reason hoping on nice welcome presents. While I do think the risk is low because guild-leaders will know this and so will not give gift or just a nice little one like a beer or something.

This was a whole list but I think thats it for now.
And the list was even longer, some things where out of the scope of this CDI (guild hall / castles / raids and so on) and other where already suggested. (mainly chat related).

I have been a guild-member since the start and always noted any functions I missed. In addition I have been collecting any suggestions from other members in one thread hoping the devs would do something with it. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Guild-System-Improvements-Suggestions/first#post3467176

When doing so you also see other people suggestions you like. Thats how my list came so bog after 2 years. Hope it helps and if there are any question just ask. I will also keep following the discussion here. And debate with you guys when I have anything to say about the subject.

I was just going to make some general remarks about what would make my life as guild leader easier and link to Devata.6589 for more in depth proposals and he added a lot more I still refer to his posts as he has a lot of experience as a guild leader and has good ideas.

What can be easier

Build queue management:

  1. I almost always build the same boosts and functionality (guild missions) so why not give me an option to automate it.
  2. Nobody likes to manage the build queue (at least not in my guild). When building is automated hopefully other leaders and officers will find it easier to activate what is build.

Management of inactive players:

  1. Give me the option to send a selection of my members the same mail. For example all members who did not represent for 2 months to ask them if they still want to be a member.
  2. Show the last representation date. Together with the last login date this would give me more option to manage activity. Not necessarily visible to all members.

Message of the Day

  1. Not visible enough. Maybe add a short welcome message to the guild chat. This evening I would have used this message: “To help you start with the Fine Dining Collection we made some steaks available in the guild bank”. Now I had the option to add it to the MOTD, but I did not as it is not visible enough.
  2. Add a calendar function to it.

Guild commander tag

  1. The account bound commander tag chance from the last patch made this less important but it would still be nice to have the option to activate a commander tag only visible to other guild members.

Build mission activation

  1. Maybe not so much a change as a bug fix but currently it is totally unclear who can activate which guild mission. There is arelated permission you can assign to a rank but it doesn’t work. At least not as I think it should work. So bugfixing or clarification would be really nice. And yes, I made several bug reports for this issue in the past.

Probably not in the scope of this CDI but I would like to see other (changed) guild missions. Most of our veteran members have seen the current missions. I would love to do guild missions twice a week, but my fellow veteran guild members refuse to join more than once a week (some of them, the rest does not join GM at all lately).

Here is a bad example of something I would be ok with as only being tied to primary guild:

  • When a guild completes a Guild mission it gains some rewards and when it has enough of these special rewards they are shared among all of the members of that guild who flagged it as their primary guild.

This example obviously has problems but that is sortof what I am talking about. Anyway I think I’ve talked enough about that issue. I’ll look for some other hot QOL issues to respond to now.

Hmm, would it be possible to have the system flag your primary guild for you, rather than the player choosing it? That way, it can be based on which guild you primarily rep, rather than which one you think has the best rewards. I’d love to see something like that combined with the allied guild missions that were also brought up in this thread (in order to allow small to mid-sized guilds to collaborate on guild missions without one of them losing their “rep reward”).

As part of the leadership of a 100% rep guild, I really love the idea of rewarding loyalty to a primary guild.

It might be nice to always have leaders and officers at the top as part of a revamped guild UI. But the function is there now at your discretion, just click the little arrow under Rank and it sorts by Rank instead of Name or Online, with top ranks at the top or bottom as you prefer by continued clicks. It’s like sorting the tables in any online chart.

True, but this is QoL suggestion. While you may be able to do that easily, having it just there, just makes it a bit easier. Just because it’s already there doesn’t mean there is no reason to change it. And seeing as this is a guild QoL and logistics CDI, this type of thing, I believe, fits right into that theme.

Oh, I agree! I think my tone didn’t come out right in text, sorry. I wasn’t saying you had a bad idea, just pointing out there was a current method to get the info as it wasn’t clear that was known.

well…what to say….good luck to your gf.

Loll I did say before you started dating seriously. In this game, joining a guild is not automatically committing to that guild, because the game gives you the right to join several at once. There is no commitment, implicit or explicit. If your guild decides you only want “committed” members, and make that clear going in, then players should be prepared to follow those rules or be kicked, but I would suspect you’d drive away more players that way than you would attract, and the fact is you don’t deserve those players you would be driving away, and the game’s mechanics should not give you the tools to control them.

no one said that the guild must popup out of nothing already specialized, that’s your’s assumption. What I, and other people, are asking for is a set of tools that allow those who want to do so to specialize. To further clarify: we don’t want any functionality removed, we want new ones to be implemented.

Sure, but new functionality would presumably mean new things that people would want to have access to, and people that aren’t signed up to guilds that have those features would be missing out on them. In principle that’s little different from gating away existing guild features, beyond the fact that most guilds have already “earned” all the existing ones.

The point is, players should not join your guild because you have a pool and the other guilds don’t. They should join your guild because you’re fun guys that they want to hang out with. They shouldn’t rep your guild because you force them to if they want to remain a member, they should rep your guild because they want to support the continued growth of your guild.

If they don’t want either of those things, then you do not deserve to have their support.

I have a question specific to your example, what prevents you from faking that? Since you can join multiple guilds at once, what exactly prevents this collection of players from each joining two (or more) guilds? One would be the smaller, personal guilds with the same organization as the GW1 ones, and the second would be a single, unified guild that includes everyone. People could stick with the small guilds when that works well for them, and then shift to the larger guild for activities in which the full “alliance” is needed. Why does that not currently work for you?

Is it just the inconvenience of the chat channels? Would having more flexible chat channels resolve it?

Proposal Overview

Total Removal of ‘Influence’ as a currency.

Goal of Proposal

The whole ‘100% rep or boot’ concept is built around building up influence in order to purchase guild boosts and upgrades. In a multi-guild system this creates two tiers of guilds, the haves and the have nots.

If the concept of sharing the influence you earn between all your guilds is so hard for a lot of players to deal with, then let’s just remove influence all together.

Proposal Functionality

Guilds would receive a set amount of credits per day based on the number of members in the guild. I’m going to call them credits simply to differentiate between this system and influence as it exists now. The credits could still be ‘called’ influence in game though.

These daily credits could be used in exactly the same way as influence, to purchase upgrades and boosts, perhaps along with a slightly extended build time. Guilds could also purchase credits using gold if they so wished.

Associated Risks

1. The fact that the current large “100% rep only” guilds might feel thaty they are getting a nerf, although this system could be balanced based on preventing that.

2. Guilds could hang on to members who have stopped playing in order to gain credits from them. This could be resolved by adding an activity element .e.g. credits are awarded when a member logs on each day.

what would smaller guilds do?

also I would rather have it so every guild that I am in gets a split of the influence I gain instead, this would make people to join guilds and remove the 100% rep requirement at the same time.

That is a very good point. We are a small guild but we can mostly keep up with the influence because some(or most :P) of us play a bit too much. If it gets limited to X per day based on the number of members then that is just making things worse.

As to your second point I don’t think a split would work that well considering how influence is calculated. A guild gets 2 influence if there is 1 member at an event and 20 influence if there are 2+ members. If you have 10 people from guild A and 20 people from guild B then you’ve earned 2 influence for guild A and 1 for guild B. How do you split that? Why not just make it so guilds gain the same amount of influence regardless representation? Using my example both guilds A and B would gain 20 influence as if you were representing both at the same time.

I think there are some misconceptions that those that rep multiple guilds might be having from reading this. As a guild leader of a medium sized guild, it’s not the influence that I’m too worried about, it’s the community.

I think most guild leaders are more concerned that their guild is ‘that other’ guild that members join. Seeing half your guild roster with the white line for not repping on most days is very discouraging to leaders and officers not so much that those non reppers aren’t getting you influence. Leaders and officers want to build up a guild, and it takes time and lots of effort recruiting and organizing activities on a daily basis. So, when you see that a large amount of your guild isn’t repping because they have other guilds that they want to do stuff with it gets a little frustrating in my opinion.

This is why guild alliances can be very useful in building loyalty, as well as closely interacting with guilds that specialize in different aspects of the game.

Goal of Proposal
The ability to change guild names in game for a nominal fee of in game gold

Proposal Functionality
As part of a guild that started in GW1 the guild name made sense there but now in GW2 less so, so what I am proposing is updating the guild registrar with the ability to change a Guilds name and tag for a fee of between 150-300 gold with a lockout on changing it again for a minimum of atleast 1 to 2 months to prevent possible abuse. the lockout period could be extended or only 1 guild name change allowed in total.

Possible abuse if lockout is too short.

sure, and that is a good thing. As I said in my earlier posts, RPG is all about choices and consequences, which is exactly the opposite of “everyone gets everything”.

They should join your guild because you’re fun guys that they want to hang out with.

I’d prefer to not confuse social aspects with technical ones. I am all up for integrating as many social tools as you like, but I also want to be able to shape the game, its world, lore and whatever, in a very unique way. As a reminder, the Alliance System would allow everyone to benefit from highly specialized guilds, so it’s not like people would be completely cut off portions of the game.

They shouldn’t rep your guild because you force them to if they want to remain a member,

this too is an arbitrary assumption no one in these pages ever mentioned /shrugs
we don’t want to force anyone to do anything, we simply want to be able to do the stuff we like in the way we like.
I made the example of a Tailoring Guild whose guildies go berserk to craft their awesom boots…. well, why they should not be allowed to do so and feel rewarded with progress in what they like? and if they become better than you and me in doing so, where is the problem?

they should rep your guild because they want to support the continued growth of your guild.

exactly this. Highly specialized guilds will attract alike minds, that simply enjoy doing what we do, and they will not feel “forced”, on the contrary they will CHOOSE following their tastes and goals rather than “oh well, let’s go in a guild, they are all alike after all”

Nope. Bad philosophy that belongs in lesser games than this one.

Unless they don’t want to be part of a huge network of guilds. You do understand that plenty of characters aren’t in any guilds, and like it that way, right?

we don’t want to force anyone to do anything, we simply want to be able to do the stuff we like in the way we like.

There have been a lot of suggestions that amount to “how can I get my guild members to behave the way I’d like them to.” Everyone needs to understand that guild members are not your minions, you shouldn’t be able to decide how they will behave.

I made the example of a Tailoring Guild whose guildies go berserk to craft their awesom boots…. well, why they should not be allowed to do so and feel rewarded with progress in what they like? and if they become better than you and me in doing so, where is the problem?

No reason why not, and we already have that, it’s called the Tailoring skill tree. Now, if your question is “why should someone who wants to be the best tailor should HAVE to join a tailoring guild in order to reach that max level?” then “no good reason, they definitely should not have to do that,” would be the answer.

exactly this. Highly specialized guilds will attract alike minds, that simply enjoy doing what we do, and they will not feel “forced”, on the contrary they will CHOOSE following their tastes and goals rather than “oh well, let’s go in a guild, they are all alike after all”

Exactly, so get out there and do that, today, right now. You don’t need anything they haven’t already given you.

Proposal Overview
Guild World Transfers
Goal of Proposal
Making it easier for guild to recruit for WvW by taking the cost of transferring players to their world of choice upon themselves. Also, making it a Guild upgrade would make sure whatever resources used for it go towards transferring the player; currently the only manner is to collect gold and send it to the player, hoping they will use it to buy gems for the transfer.
Proposal Functionality
Activating the “Guild World Transfer” upgrade – built with influence and merits – would prompt the officer who did to select a target server for transfers. Depending on the server selected, a certain number of transfers to this servers would be unlocked. The amount would depend on the same reasoning as the current Gem cost for the transfer; it could be 5 for more expensive servers or 15 for lower ones. To use the transfers, Guild Members would talk to an NPC (i.e. the Guild Registrar) who would transfer the players to the target server until the remaining transfers are depleted.
Associated Risks
Considering the large amount of Influence and Merits available to Guilds due to having maxed out their upgrades long ago, this feature could cause massive transfers. This would be mitigated if the feature was added along with a lot of new upgrades, forcing Guilds to choose where to spend their currency.

Goal of Proposal
Allows guilds to tag up for guild missions or other guild events for a period of time, maybe 2 hrs?
The cost of commander tags is utterly ridiculous for players who only tag up once-twice/week for guild missions
A short/duration commander tag bought with influence makes more sense.
Make them only visible to guild members.
This also helps with WvW guilds who don’t want pugs ruining guild raids in WvW
Proposal Functionality

High ranked guild members may activate one at a time through the guild window
Only visible for 2 hrs after activation
Associated Risks
None I can see. Guilds will research/build more in Art of War. This won’t affect players not associated with the active guild. Maybe lag from invisible commander tags?

A option to only allow players into your guild from your server would be extremely helpful to WvW guilds
And guilds who click this option should have a Server tag next to their guild tag, this allows other WvW guilds/players know that your guild is strictly XX-server for WvW
Proposal Functionality
It should be an option in the rank tab that you can click. Or! possibly an ‘Art of War’ research that guilds can strive for and guilds that don’t need that research just don’t have to research it.
The Server Tag doesn’t have to be [Server] next to your guild tag, but an asterisk or something similar that is only visible to your team/server.

Influence is quite valuable if you know how to use it properly.

If multi-repping were a thing, myself and a friend could build 5 guilds and do events together. We’d be earning 100 influence per event across our 5 guilds.

Oh, the glorious guild catapults we could build.

prices would have to be adjusted accordingly, of course, you can’t just multiply the source of any currency (even if i think that even with guild siege, it’s more a time thing than an influence thing) and not inflate the costs accordingly.

do away with the exclusionary repping system, allow people to actively take part in all of their guilds.

just theorycrafting here: wouldn’t this completely destroy the concept of guild itself? if you are part of all guilds, may as well remove guilds at all and simply have merits/influence/whatever rain upon all players as they login…

maybe it’s because i like to see guilds more as a social group and less as a service. i want guild so i can be with people and experience cool stuff in the game with them. the services are secondary to me.

but i don’t see why multi-repping would damage merits. you’d still need an active userbase playing the game and doing your events to win merits, it’s just that now those people can do your events and help you even when they want to be with their other friends. the key idea i’m trying to bring up is “inclusion over exclusion”.

More thoughts on alliances

Primary guild/service guild
-Primary guild is your WvW guild or server guild.
-Service guilds (farming/friends/dungeons) are guilds that you can still be a part of but don’t need to be in the same server to do content.

My reasons for wanting an alliance system to be implemented are for better organization and communication between guilds in WvW and bigger social networks in service guilds. An example of better networking in service guilds (not personal bank guilds) would be when I am running with my farming guild and only 5 of our members are representing at that time it would be hard to start a farm train for example because the guildies not representing can’t see our chat but if their was an alliance system in place the farming guild would be allied with other farming guilds and maybe they have 10/20 of their guildies currently representing so we can communicate and have 15 players in total who can maybe start that farming train. WvW guild I think would benefit the most from an alliance system because they would be able to ally with other guilds in their same server through a in game source (not forums/ts etc..) and better organize tactics for that WvW season.

Proposal Overview

Being able to view what your Guild has claimed in WvW.

Goal of Proposal

To be able to see what towers/camps/keeps your Guild has claimed in WvW. This will allow guild members to see what has been claimed by your guild in a certain borderland.

Proposal Functionality

A simple message on a guild tab which allows you to just read what has been claimed and where.

I’d like guild halls in gw2.

Goal of Proposal

Addition of Guild Halls

Proposal Functionality

Instanced zone with guild hall functionality similar to Guild Wars 1

Potential Personal Housing options with individual rooms (instanced or otherwise) for individual players

Associated Risks

I can’t really think of any… many people really want this. Myself included. I just wanted to throw in my support for this!

Nope. Bad philosophy that belongs in lesser games than this one.

I am not sure I’d call Dragon Age, D&D, Torment, Witcher and many others “lesser games”.

Unless they don’t want to be part of a huge network of guilds. You do understand that plenty of characters aren’t in any guilds, and like it that way, right?

I’ve been guildless for months too, so what? being able to observe the surrounding doesn’t implies anything specific. Still, the game offers no tools for those who want specialization, and injecting fresh ideas in a game which is already two years old can only be positive for the whole community.

There have been a lot of suggestions that [cut]

yeah but they didn’t come from me, so why are you mixing them with my thoughts?

No reason why not, and we already have that

no we don’t, all guilds are alike and have exactly the same features, and no one can specialize in any way doing anything in PvE, so we are probably playing a different version of GW2.

Now, if your question is “why should someone who wants to be the best tailor should HAVE to join a tailoring guild in order to reach that max level?”

for the same reason you join an university, then get a master, phd or a similar institute that allows you to broaden and increase your knowledge in a specific field. Astonishing, uh?
Some posts ago, I linked the history of Universities, which -surprise- come from Guilds, you may want to get a look at it too.
The concept itself of Guild is exactly a place where alike-minds gathers in order to specialize and find protection or improve their business; I know games handle historical facts very lightly or in a misinformed way, but gladly this won’t change reality in any way. Guilds are not disco clubs with the sole function of entertainment and socialization, people should deal with it…

I see. While I -as stated many times already- completely support the concept of boosting the social aspects (maybe giving players the freedom to create, edit and assemble entire lists of people to stay in touch with, maybe with a modular “superchat”), I find services the true purpose of joining a Guild (as it was irl back in the days when they existed).
If tools are given to Guilds to improve, evolve and be shaped as the people who play in them want, Guilds will become a part of the end game content (as you will virtually never end to tweak them) rather than just being part of the social life of the players.

the key idea i’m trying to bring up is “inclusion over exclusion”.

I am not against this, on the contrary it’s quite a good idea…

I am not sure I’d call Dragon Age, D&D, Torment, Witcher and many others “lesser games”.

Than GW2? I played those games for about a month, tops, I’ve been on this one for two years now, so yeah, definitely “lesser.” The things they did do better were not exclusionary gameplay mechanics.

I’ve been guildless for months too, so what? being able to observe the surrounding doesn’t implies anything specific. Still, the game offers no tools for those who want specialization, and injecting fresh ideas in a game which is already two years old can only be positive for the whole community.

New ideas can be good or bad. This feature patch included a lot of “new ideas” that landed like a lead balloon. Perhaps paths for specialization could be good, but if so, guilds are not the place to put them, they should be personal tracks. Personally though, I like the way the current system works, where you can only do certain combinations of things at one time, but where you can unlock everything, allowing you to switch from one thing to another fairly easily. I would hate any move towards making it so that you choose one thing, and are more or less permanently locked into that choice.

yeah but they didn’t come from me, so why are you mixing them with my thoughts?

Because I’m not a mind reader.

no we don’t, all guilds are alike and have exactly the same features, and no one can specialize in any way doing anything in PvE, so we are probably playing a different version of GW2.

You posited making a tailor guild. You can already do that. You make a guild, you call it something like “Tailors Unite,” and you recruit on the basis that it’s mostly for tailors. Tailors join it, they sew things, it’s a tailor’s guild. Done. Maybe make the guild sigil a pair of crossed needles. Is that an option? Maybe spend an inordinate amount of your guild currency churning out those portable Tailor stations so that everyone can have some. There’s nothing more that would be needed there, guild of tailors. It’s specialized by the choices the players make, that they choose to max out their tailoring options, and “players” is what a guild is all about. There’s no reaosn why any tailors out there who don’t want to join that guild should find their options are tailors limited though.

for the same reason you join an university, then get a master, phd or a similar institute that allows you to broaden and increase your knowledge in a specific field. Astonishing, uh?

No. No to all of that.

I find services the true purpose of joining a Guild (as it was irl back in the days when they existed).

No, you’re getting way too hung up on your personal, history-based definition of the word, rather than its actual function in games. Real life guilds were trade unions, and were about member support, but MMO guilds are something else entirely. They are about social communities that allow players to better organize. Actual practical impacts should be minimal, because they exclude those players who don’t join those guilds. Anything that can have a significant impact on a player’s personal development should be entirely NPC-based.

you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be

Wish I had been able to come earlier! I have many stuff to talk about, I’ll try to speak of each topic in different posts following the suggested idea format.

By the way, this old thread could be interesting: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/archive/suggestions/Improving-the-guild-system-Long-detailed

Here we go:

Proposal Overview

Guild alerts, or guild mass communication.

Goal of Proposal

Ability for the guild leaders to communicate efficiently with their guildmates.

Proposal Functionality

There’s two approaches for this, mail and chat, both are nice and don’t invalidate each other. There would be a new section in the guild panel, where you can write the message and set up your preferences.

These preferences would include: Ranks, represent or not, and mail or chat. A chat alert would appear in the chat log for every online member qualifying for the preferences. Mail alert would send an ingame mail to every qualifying member, online or not.

Associated Risks

I don’t see any risks. The system should work above the spam detection filters, so that there’s never “message supressed” situations. The system could have a natural limit to avoid spam, but nothing too restrictive. Also watch for chat message character limits.

Proposal Overview

Message of the Day (MotD) in the chat log upon login/represent.

Goal of Proposal

No one reads the MotD, so this would be an efficient way of showing everyone the latests news or rules of the guild.

Proposal Functionality

When you log in or represent a guild, the content of the MotD is pasted in the chat.

Associated Risks

None I could think of. Just watch for chat message character limits.

Proposal Overview
This has probably already been mentioned, but Guild Commander tags with a duration period.
Buy 5 Guild Commander Tags for XXXX influence. In the Art of War research.
High ranked guild members may activate one at a time through the guild window
Only visible for 2 hrs after activation
Associated Risks
None I can see. Guilds will research/build more in Art of War. This won’t affect players not associated with the active guild. Maybe lag from invisible commander tags?

Well may I add something to this. Maybe people who already have the commander tag can then use that also as a permanent guild commander and the guild commander tag would be the guild emblem.

Part 2:

Proposal Overview

Last time represented.

Goal of Proposal

Know who’s actively representing the guild, to make guild management and inactive cleaning much more easier. Some guilds that don’t ask for representation have problems knowing if those who don’t represent come periodically to the events or haven’t represented the guild in months.

Proposal Functionality

Show when each member represented for the last time.

Associated Risks

Griefing from abusive guild leaders. In most times the answer is to just leave and search a better guild. Maybe avoiding mixing this information with last online could help avoid problems, or just make the last represented umbers a bit ambiguous, like showing the last day the members represented, but not the hours.

Proposal Overview

Divide guild roster rank permissions

Goal of Proposal

Give different rank permissions for guild roster management: Invite, cancel invitations, kick and promote. Right now all of these options are in a single rank permission.

Proposal Functionality

Divide the permissions into different options.

Associated Risks

None.

Proposal Overview

Social section inside the guild panel.

Goal of Proposal

Add a space where the guild members with the qualifying rank permissions can post text and links. It would work as a simple blog or wall, and help guilds describe their organized events, rules or just share useful information.

Proposal Functionality

A new section inside the guild panel, where a limited number of posts can be created and edited. The content here could be copy+pasted. This section could work on the web engine, and later on these guild pages could be accessed from outside the game, from new guild leaderboards for example. In this case guilds could set posts to public or private. Posts could be private to specific ranks, too, so that guild leaders can share private information easily.

Associated Risks

If left open, some guild members could post offensive content. The approach to this situation is kinda ambiguous, as it’s considered private talks between the guild and not something public, unless the guild social page can be accessed from outside the game, in which case this would need some control or report options.

Part 3:

Proposal Overview

Extensive rank permissions for guild missions.

Goal of Proposal

Create different rank permissions for guild mission field control:

  • Primary: Start a rush/puzzle/challenge by interacting with the banner, accept or decline credit for completing a mission activated by other guild.
  • Secondary: Activate guild bounty targets, interact with secondary guild challenge objectives (trapped quaggans, Southsun crab first grab).
  • Tertiary: Interact with tertiary guild puzzle and challenge objectives (bazookas, crab in the ground, explosives, turrets, light orbs, etc) and interact with guild trek locations.

Proposal Functionality

Create new rank permissions.

Associated Risks

None. A member might find himself unable to complete something, with those who can complete it way too far. This could be a problem and make a guild fail their mission, but it’s on the guild leaders’ hands to give the permissions or not.

Proposal Overview

Detailed guild mission interaction history.

Goal of Proposal

Know who activated each of the objectives during guild missions.

Proposal Functionality

The history would show things like who triggered any of the primary and secondary interaction objectives described above, in the previous proposal. You would know information like who activated a guild bounty target or found a guild trek location. It could be useful to know who’s contributing more, and reward them with a promotion or other benefits.

Associated Risks

None. This would help guild leaders determine who is trolling by constantly activating outside the guild’s plans, and react in consequence, by kicking or demoting the responsible player.

Guild alerts the way you describe it (well the mail part, chat would also be nice indeed) I already suggested before however when reading your Proposal Overview it did really give me another idea (what I thought you mend until reading the rest). A message in the screen. Much like the “A new build is ready”.

Of course again this is one of those thinks that could be miss-used by guilds but on the other hands, if guilds miss-use that a lot people will leave the guild and people might even have the ability to turn it of.

Then you can bring some things better to the attention of members… “Guild-missions starting in 10 min”. We now say that in guild-chat but people who are not in the guild-chat channel or are simply not watching the chat might miss it.

Part 4:

Proposal Overview

Guild event calendar

Goal of Proposal

A small calendar integrated in the guild UI, where guild leaders can select days and hours, to help organize events better.

Proposal Functionality

The guild leader can select dates and include information on what’s happening that day. The calendar could have automated warnings, too, remembering people using the chat or a screen message that there’s a guild event happening soon.

Associated Risks

None. Maybe technical stuff from the servers, depending on the architecture and the load of work. Maybe, instead of a calendar, we could have a list of countdowns with dates, limited to 20 entries. Some of them could be periodical (for example guild missions done Mondays at 12pm weekly) and others could be one-time. Could work better than a classic calendar.

And that’s all for Logistics and QoL. I have more stuff about guild missions that wouldn’t qualify for this thread, like achievements and new missions.

Any roadmap or what the next guild CDIs will be about? I think I saw a draft somewhere, but it would be nice to have it here. Maybe that makes people stop posting unrelated stuff to Logistics and QoL, and we know we aren’t saving text for something that won’t be discussed on its own later, and instead include it here.

Edit: Also, I see some talk about guild commanders, too. I don’t know if it fits this round of the CDI or it will be talked about specifically later, but I made some ideas about Commander’s Compendium being bought with influence here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:Lon-ami/Commander_system_improvements as well as new unique commander tag icons for completing specific activities, guild commanding included.

Part 5:

There’s a lot of minor details that I couldn’t include above, so I figured I’ll include them here anyway.

  • Bring back guild tag name on selected player information, it’s confusing to need to look at two different places (the world and the selected UI information) to know what each tag means.
  • Guild chat shouldn’t wipe by any circumstance (As long as you don’t close the game, of course). Changing characters or leaving guilds shouldn’t remove the guild chat log.
  • Remember the guild you were representing for every character. Your currently represented guild should be accountbound. Lot of people don’t notice their alts are representing different guilds and it gets easily confusing.
  • Bring back the part interface “the invite to guild” / “kick from guild” option. I don’t think removing that was a good idea anyway, a confirmation window would have been a better solution to accidental kicking. This option was good when you needed to kick someone quickly, now having to search him in the list is kinda slow.
  • Give an easy way to know if someone on your screen is part of your guild when he’s not representing.
  • When someone is kicked/promoted/leaves, mark his rank in the history.

As for guild alliances, I don’t think they would be a good idea. You need to feel like you’re part of a guild, and these things would destroy that feeling. Alliances could be dangerous for small guilds, that could get easily absorbed by bigger guilds.

Multi-guild chat has a point, in that lot of guilds work as LFGs of sorts, dedicating to specific activities of the game, but it has downsides. It would make getting influence harder because everyone would be representing their bank guild. If you want the services of one guild (chat included), you should represent them.

Putting the bank back in WvW would be nice.

As would putting one by the mystic forge, like we used to have before LA fell.

And maybe not contesting the closest way point to the one we have?

Actually…why doesn’t that any NPC that you walk up to that has bank access (banker; crafting table) have a dialog or tab or whatever that can also access the guild bank?

What are the 3 top QOL features you think Guild Halls could provide that maybe couldn’t exist otherwise? Try not to list features that are beyond QOL, but I won’t hold it against you because its hard to do.

I’m out for the day hiking at Mt. Rainier but will try and return with my own top three later this weekend.

1. Button on Guild Interface for traveling to guild hall/leaving guild hall. (like gw1)
2. Unlockable permanent trader/banker npcs, mystic forge, and crafting stations
3. Firework consumables covering the whole area for 10minutes.

Didn’t mention PvP features because i suppose Guild Halls will have the same features as custom arenas do. I imagine it like GW1 non-combatant lobby, where u can start instanced pvp matches.
