Best to worst dungeon dps classes?
You have absolutely no idea what kind of kittenstorm you are stirring up with that question.
In my guild’s set up our eles are probably doing the most damage with lightning hammer or fiery greatsword but that requires warriors to lay down banner, guardians to lay down firefields, and mesmers/guardians to supply quickness
rangers 1st
warriors last
In organiced groups with perfect players
Ele, Guard, Thief, Ranger, Warrior, Ingineer, Necro, Mesmer
guardian second best dps? you just blew my mind.
I’m not any good at running numbers for stuff like that; however guardians do have I believe the highest base damage modifiers of any class? I wouldn’t be too surprised, is all.
In organiced groups with perfect players
Ele, Guard, Thief, Ranger, Warrior, Ingineer, Necro, Mesmer
I have to try and start the fight!
When trying to take dungeons as generally as possible, I think more credit should be given for group wide 320 power, 170 cond dmg, 170 prec, and 15 crit dmg the team will automatically lose if not including a certain profession.
Rangers actually have the best damage when supplied with a Lightning Hammer since their goes up to – more or less – the standard auto-attack damage (with full zerker that’s 1.5-2k, 1.5-2k, 4-5k on third hit), ON TOP of the damage the pet’s doing.
“GW2’s PvE is almost as bad as the PvP.”
Um I’m going to need to rephrase this question I think.
So I stopped playing for 10months and when I came back most groups only want Warrior/Mesmer/Guardian. I want to know I guess the DPS ranking of the other 5 classes? Specifically is engineer the lowest dps (people won’t take engineer it seems)? Ele seems to be slightly accepted. Necro/thief/ranger, no idea here.
Basically enlighten me on the knowledge I lost from not playing for 10 months.

In reality all of the 8 classes can bring enough dmg not to be a burden for 99% of the pug groups when played well. Combinations of the 3 professions you mentioned offer and easy way of gaining decent results and are therefore sought after when grouping with people you dont know.
Based on my observations it takes about 6 months for pugs to catch up with the meta. Whatever people say here will be valid next year.
Best: every class except mesmer
worst : mesmer
Morrï (Mesmer) | Serah Mahariel (Guardian) | Morrï Mahariel (Warrior)
“colesy’s on rampage today. Slaying casuals left, right and centre” – spoj
It’s probably easier and less controversial to group them in terms of team contribution since personal dps is only a component of that, in addition to team damage boons and enemy vulnerability. A tier system is much easier:
Guardian/Warrior/Ranger/Thief
Elementalist/Engineer/Mesmer
Necro
Depends on utilization and what stat you look at, group benefits, dps, utility etc etc
Think all classes has there place but as most dungeons are played these days (melee stacking, los pulls) aoe dmg is a very important factor. So any class with high dmg aoe spells and classes that boost that output.
Single target and ranged dps classes are probably the worst to bring imo (other than for utility skills, portal/timewarp). Guardian is a great class and one should be the staple of any group, nor for dps but for their utility (aegis helps with 1 mistake situation which in some dungeons can be the difference from a downed state, prot/reflection is almost crucial in some scenarios and a lvl48 fractal without a guard means trickery
edit: that said, dungeons (except really high level fractals) are extremely ezmode at the present, any class is viable as long as they have a somewhat decent build and some skill, except ofcourse if its a min/maxing group like CoF farming).

If we were to discuss this on simply how much damage can these classes put out without considering group benefits/bringing might, blast finishers, fire fields, etc; this conversation would probably vary a bit and consequently so would my list.

Lots of wrongs here. For example, an Ele with LH has a 1.6 damage amplifier, a warrior with axe just a 1.05*1.03*1.03 (considering 3 boons) multiplifier, considering30/0/0/10/30.
Also, LH has stronger coefficient/time than axe autoattacks.

Give me that necro build yo >_>
|-Swiftpaw Sharpclaw [DnT]-|
I calculated my necro gets about 11318.44 dps without boons, vulnerability, stacks and banner buffs (With 4 conditions for target the weak). 12014.68 dps if the fight lasts less than 13 seconds. Im not sure how correct my calculations were but i could of made an error with base damage of attacks. Anyway this compared to a warrior with the same conditions using the 30/25/0/0/15 build, which is 11853.98 dps, is pretty impressive. From what ive calculated so far, necro dps really isnt that bad, its just the lack of utility and team buffs.

LH third hit (the hardest hitting one) is a true AoE that can hit 5 mob at once and it’s the one that also applies blinds.
Ele defintively have stronger AoE dps than warriors. (sustained dps, not burst. Warriors have frenzy..)

Very few 5 count trash packs that I can think of off a normal dungeon rotation that appear on a consistant basis, but yea, there’s definitely room for argument here. Like the caveats mentioned below, this is considering rotations necessary to maintain stacks, vuls, group compositions, etc. Not to mention LH attacks are considerably slower. Personally I’ve run my full ascended/scholar rune ele a bunch, along with many of our guildies, and find the DPS a bit lacking without ideal compisitions and the ramp up itself is rather slow between re-equpping hammers, conjuring, fire fields, ensuring water swapping timing, etc along with the fact that most trash packs are dead rather quickly.

They also have completely different power coefficients and attack speeds and possibly weapon sets to consider too. Take it with a grain of salt either way, neither of us actually have solid figures here; these are simply mine and your opinions on what we’ve run and experienced in the game thus far. Give me a spreadsheet though with full calcs and I’d happily sing the tune of whatever is the highest DPS.

Yeah, me too.
I say this a lot: any class can have high DPS when played right.
I used to think that Rangers had low DPS. That was until I saw them do something other than spam the shortbow auto attack at range. The combination of Sword, Warhorn, and utilities actually meant for offense, and a ranger can dish out a ton of mini hits all at once.
A lot of people say Necromancers have low damage, but since I play a necro I also know that isn’t true. For condi necros, Epidemic is arguably the strongest attack in the game, moving 25 stacks of bleeding, poison, burning, and torment to 5 additional enemies at 1800 condition damage. Power necros can blow through enemies with 8K damage lifeblasts that pierce, stacks might, and stacks vulnerability at the same time. They also have 100% crit rate in Death Shroud and Lich Form, to boot.
A lot of people say engineers have low DPS, but that also isn’t true. They have difficult-to-use DPS. Engineers are the best hybrid class in the game. I run a hybrid HGH grenadier build, and I end up with 2700 power, 1700 malice, 50+% chance to crit with fury, 70% condition duration once my might stacks get going. My grenades hit like a truck, and they stack masses of bleeds and poison. I also have access to cone burns and AoE burns, ensuring a permanent burn on multiple enemies at once. We’ve already seen an example of what a bomb kit can do in this thread.
Right now, I’d probably say the lowest DPS* class is the mesmer. There’s a “*” there because mesmers can inflict a ton of damage in the right circumstances, as those 18 second Lupi videos have shown us.

Actually, that half second aftercast is only true for the first bomb. Afterward, there is a steady stream of bombs that go off at the same rate that you place them.

DOG OP…..NERF DOG!!! it has the ability to consume garbage and hit you for over 9000 with vomit attack!
Tier 1: Warrior, Thief
Tier 2: Engineer, Ranger
Borderline: Guardian, Elementalist
Tier 3: Mesmer , Necromancer
Explanation:
Warrior and Thief self explanatory. HB and Heartseeker spam.
Engineer, and Rangers all have a nice sustain when fighting melee. Engineer have bombs with Static Discharge, while Rangers have their godly 1h sword. Both also possess the best long-range weapons in the game (Grenades and Longbow), with the insane far-reach capabilities of 1500 range, and nice damage too boot.
Elementalist is somewhat in the middle. Everything recharges too high, so they end up with lower overall damage which does not pay for their fragility in PvE.
Guardian from my experience doesn’t deal much damage as others. The damage is still nice, and the support is AMAZING, but in terms of bursting the Guardian is not as good as other classes.
Mesmers are more famous for utilities than their damage because their damage requires too much setup. Similar to the Elementalist, it’s too fragile.
Necromancer is… Not much to comment dps-wise. It’s great to cure conditions off foes and deny your foe any boons, but it’s just not a damage class.

People saying necro damage is as bad or close to mesmer damage have obviously never played a necro before. It might not beat thief damage but id argue its better than ranger at the least, just relys on the team to buff up.
5. P/D Thief*
@Nikaido: Eles also have much better burst than warriors. In the first three seconds of combat they dish out up to 200k damage.
Doing the FGS rush shouldn’t be considered as a reliable form of dps since it really doesn’t work at every boss or trash pull. Also, Nikaido is a big thor hammer fan, he knows.
And another thing the FGS rush needs to be fixed.
@spoj, it’s probably similar to ranger, and ranger brings group buffs. You’ve already admitted necro is just a sponge so ranger is better in that only.
