General Dungeon Discussion Thread - Part 2
Congrats guys, not a single anti-zerker, bring back the trinity thread on the first page of the general forum. How long can it last?
This thread has barely started and I already love it.

That’s….incredibly useful. We’ll need to confirm, but looks like a nice trick.
I guess I’m really getting old, my attention span isn’t what it used to be …
I went on a (overall very enjoyable ) dungeon tour with some forum members on Wednesday evening. Brought my favourite asura mesmer to AC to start off. I did wonder at one point why her damage seemed to be rather meh, but at the speed we were going, I didn’t get to think about it any more. For reasons unrelated to this (at least on my side ), I changed characters for the next dungeon, so didn’t come back to wondering about it.
Last night, logging into the same asura mesmer, I checked her equipment and noticed that she wasn’t wearing her regular berserker/scholar armor but her wvw outfit (rabid with traveler runes) instead. I had used that a couple of days ago trying to help some guildies through living story instances, and forgot to change back.
Sorry about that … next time you see me in a dungeon, please remind me to check my equipment and make sure I’m wearing the right stuff. An old lady and her memory aren’t always the quickest .
Classic. 10/10. Would kick again.

Had I not just seen that reddit thread I would be outright calling you out on your demise fall for the PHYW ways!
That build is some strong kitten

Sometimes it stuns me that people like that exist. But only sometimes.

Why do people never ask me for my rank? Or a 1v1?
Right, I’m not pugging.
The Order of Calamity [OOC] is recruiting!
5/8 Champion titles
Last night a few folks (Iris, Nevets, Lang, and Nevets’ friend McBaddy) and I did a really miserable fractal. The first try went south because our molten facility bugged, and so we had to start over. Nevets was probably the only one of us still being chipper and optimistic, and our 3 ele + 2 thief combo was less than stellar. we got maw in the end, and struggled a lot for some reason. But right before the daily chest popped up, after a fight and struggle I haven’t had in a while, poor Nevets DCd. No daily chest for him, though imo, I would have rather him get my rewards since I was being whiny.
… granted I got a cirque of arah, so he probably didn’t want that anyway.
Nevets, you’re great. Still amazed you weren’t angry about the DC.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.

Makes me think of a greasy fat kid chugging a two liter of mountain dew while their mom’s passed out on the couch behind them.
Not sure why.
Annnnnnnd, here we have it.

PoI HoT Gameplay preview. They talk about challenging repeatable content. Then showcases themselves running around pressing 1 to “burn as many vines as you can”.
lol
:*(
They did say that was purely a basic one to showcase the idea. But yeah i dont expect any of the open world stuff to be challenging. If its fun then im ok with it. Lets just hope we get something in addition to a fractal update.
zerker pugs. atleast it is not complaining about how bad zerk gear is and just how bad the players are.

where do I find this video?
you want to skip a little past half way i think. for a lot of the video they don’t even move the character around.
Also looks like they might have listened to all the defiant complaints in that thread and opted for a dumbed down version which locks out the option to coordinate CC to strip stacks for chained stuns.
I still maintain that defiant is fine. They just need to teach players to use it properly. If this is an open world only version of defiant then im fine with the change. Because yeah its terrible implementation when it scales up to 50 stacks on open world stuff.

:P I redid that 50 today and got the same set – there is something else going on besides pure RNG with the rolls and loot in fractals, I’m convinced of it. Anyway, got a useless ring and would’ve last night as well I’m sure.
PS I apologize for being so nubby… was distracted by interview news, food poisoning, being tired, and frustration from having to reset the first attempt. So I probs contributed to our group sucking so hard. Thanks for putting up with ME

Ugh. Though I though defiant was a little clunky in that without voice coms and quick communication it’s really really hard to coordinate. If I toss a CC and TeammateA tosses a CC at the same time, boom 2 stacks gone… what if there was only 1 stack, now we start back at the 5 stacks… Of course it’s fine if you simply have one person control it, but that’s basically mes/thief then.
I hate the idea of simply a time locked system like that, but I did think it was imperfect.
In my group, we have a code: I take even and my bro take odd. Warrior is allowed to take the first defiance. If it’s a pug, we tell them not to use mace 5.

Really hope the other adventures are more than that.

We dont even organise it lol. I literally just link icebow 5 or say strip defiant. And the group does it. Only very rarely do people overdo it. I guess thats the benefit of playing with the same core people every time.
We had a pug mesmer in fractal 50 the other day. I set up my own icebow 5 and then just before i finished channeling the mesmer gs 5’d bjarl across the room. >.>

It just makes our timing and cd management easier. Since some of the CC isn’t instant (i.e. Comet), it can be chaotic if our CC overlap. It also helps us tremendously in the champ room in the Uncategorized fractals. As we can 3-man the part easily now.
When my bro or I on thief and the other goes ele, we make sure no one but thief to do defiance management. Although the best practice goes to Lua’s group. Exceptional 4 deep-freeze chains on HotW bosses.
Speaking of fractals, this is not how one should ask their friends to help with his fractal leveling. Bonus some post-show chat up with my bro as he was practically mute the whole time.

I can do the ele trick too!!! <3
it also works with the line version too ^ ^

Maybe this bar goes down faster than the current implementation but refreshes over time? So coordinating CCs is more important?
It looks more likely that when you CC the bar drops to 0 and then gradually builds up to max. So you can only CC when its full. Otherwise i dont see why they would use a bar for the UI and i dont see why it would be full when hes not been CC’d.

I hope it decays naturally, with condition damage, maybe? Other wise, it’s just a make over from a number of stacks to increments in a bar.

Can someone translate this technoblabble and explain why GW2 has limits on conditions? I tought WoW still has a cap on debuffs. Oo

Their conditions are different. It’s not keeping track of stacks of 25. So technically I believe GW2 had a more advanced condition system and cap than WoW. With this change the writer believes they raised it to the mechanical cap that is limited by the data type they use.
GW2 does keep track of quite a bit (I may be wrong on these numbers). 25 stacks of Vuln (and who they belong to) 25 stacks of Bleed, 25 stacks of confusion, 25 stacks of torment, 3 stacks of immob, 5 stacks of burning, stacks of poison, chill, cripple, etc. So you’re still looking at an limited List of conditions all keeping track of the person it belongs to, their condition damage, and duration and all that stuff. In the end it’s quite a bit of information contained, and it has to be analyzed every second. It’s been a while since my schooling so I forget the terms but when you analyze the amount of work a program will do you have to look at the functions and how many iterations it will take. It’s early and I had a late night so excuse any errors in reasoning, but basically it’ll have to run the bleeding function 25X per second which will be analyzing the condition damage of each bleed stack and applying it to the damage intake of that mob while also sending each player the information about their bleed stacks. It may not be a lot but when you think about the 25X on hundreds/thousands of enemies, it certainly adds up to cause quite a bit of server strain.
In the end though GW2’s limitations are very much centered around it’s condition design. While I think I understand what they were going for (needing to more actively apply conditions rather than a more set it and forget it 1 minute effect like many other games), I just don’t think it turned out well due to this limitation. But, from the sounds of it GW2 was handling more condition wise than WoW up until this latest expansion.

kawaii overload !!

In TA a bowbear pug asked me in the middle of the run what build he should run (I hadn’t said anything in chat until then)
A single elitist tear ran down my face that moment.
Bowbear by bowbear, tyria will be cleansed of this evil.
It took me 26 minutes to kill the Malevolent Memory from Hidden Arcana using two bears, a longbow and shortbow (I mostly used the shortbow) and Omnomberry Pie and no vortexes except to remove the shield.
:>
PS: Pets deal full damage to the Memory.
“Memories are nice, but that’s all they are.”
After a LONG fractal run with many deaths, we finally reach my favorite boss. After a lot of wipes and with 3 " starting to break " outfits I was getting salty and annoyed. Then my playlist that I was listening to gives me one of my cheesy songs on the list and my mood change completely .
Morale of the story: when you get salty/annoyed stop for a second and go blast your favorite song cause it sure helped me ( along with great friends in that run )
kawaii overload !!
Thank you, foxy <3

So I listened to Tom and watched both Clannad and Clannad Afterstory…
it’s been almost a full day and I still feel depressed from it. By far the most beautiful yet sad stories I’ve seen/heard of before. Omg…
I remember some of us talked about it on a thread on this sub a while ago.
The Adventures thing does have a chance to be something good, I think. Considering:
- They’re meant to replace hearts. Most of them will need to be on the easy side of things, as this is for open world PvE’rs. If they decide to put in some actual decent boss fights in just a few of them as well, that’s something I’d like to see.
- They can be instanced. Imagine a world boss where you can start up an instance for you solo, your 5 man party, or your 500 man guild. Depending on how they decide to tune scaling, these could potentially be like fractal shards without the RNG.
- They demo’d the first one in the starter area. I hope this is why it looked like more of a faceroll tutorial than a challenge.
If some of the encounters are instanced and challenging, I’d enjoy it. I can potentially see them putting in something like a dungeon path as an Adventure. It sounds like a really flexible system that, if done right, could satisfy both casuals and elitists.
I’d like to see more about the reward system as well. But even with no significant reward, optionally instancing open world bosses would be an improvement.

Try Kanon 2006 and Air TV, all 3 series have been done by the same company (Key Studios in terms of the original games). Personally I liked Air TV the best (it was also the weirdest one of the three though).

Where does it say it can be instanced? The Adventure they showed us was clearly open world

Listen to the whole thing (I know, I know…it’s sorta painful) — they mention it a couple of times in the livestream.
When they said instanced on that stream they meant the objects are only affected on the local client. So if another player does the event at the same time they do not burn the same vines as you. Its like gathering nodes. If someone else mines a node you can still mine it yourself. Its localised and not server side. “Instanced to you”. Its not really the correct term. But thats what they meant.
I like AC.
How’d you manage to get p1 working as well? Last time I tried Hodgins got stuck in the spider room and never activated his events.
