I just don’t understand why he’s so upset about the greatsword mesmer thing. I mean… it’s like a longbow ranger. It’s a weapon made specifically for ranging, and most encounters are not completed efficiently when ranged. I don’t get why that’s a bad thing. Greatsword is good in other situations… why do weapons have to be good in all situations? I mean, all encounters can be completed with any build or weapon type, why do all weapons have to be optimal? I just don’t get it, guys. I just dont…
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?

Well said, Lilith. Hope he leave us for a while.

I’ll just add that there is no such thing as a Duelist Mesmer build ( Mike talked about that).
There is a Duelist look made by Sandy though (his zerker set).

Just about everyone likes efficiency? Many players have time constraints, and that number includes people who prefer a certain look to their character’s actions? Some players think that all choices should produce equal results, when the actual goal of balance in a game with character ability diversity is equivalent results?
Take your pick — or was that a rhetorical question?

?
Well.. do you feel that way? I don’t. I see no reason why an attack with a range weapon should have equivalent damage to a melee. Risk/reward.

No, I understand the need for trade-offs in build creation.
I don’t. I see no reason why an attack with a range weapon should have equivalent damage to a melee. Risk/reward.
The “Equivalent results” from builds I was referring to occurs on a higher level than just one aspect of a build (e.g., damage or survivability). Equivalent results means both choices finish the content, not both options have the same damage (which would be equal results).
And yes, I know I’m stretching the definitions of the word equivalent, but people on forums get creative with word meanings all the time. So sue me.
A more correct way to say it would be to say that: "Some players think that all choices should produce the same results on a micro level, whereas the actual goal of balance in a game with character ability diversity is the same overall result on the macro level.
