Hey that’s me!
Because they don’t have a particularly good record when it comes to balancing.
This. Anet can’t buff unviable stuff or make interesting mechanics.
Anet will only nerf zerk to the ground or make it useless through cheap mechanics such as immune to crit, invulnerable phases etc …
Just believe us, seriously, you can’t know how terribad this news is …
Well, remember that ANet tried fixing healing breeze for Guardians to make it viable and people still don’t use it. Also remember that the game was intended to be “play how you want”, but that the reason that attitude receives scorn is because zerkers are about 40% more effective than PVT the way the game actually plays.
As someone who would like to play as a tank healer, but can’t and so has replaced Clerics pieces wits zerker my guess is that they will undershoot. Again.
Good news, but does that mean that their actions would bring about promised diversity to the builds and comps or make things worse?
My vote is for make things worse… TA aetherblade path style.
A change to the worse is about as likely as the “Amen” in the church, I guess.

Next update: All enemies in dungeons are now considered inanimate objects/structures. Our crit damage will be useless and PVTers can be happy. Maybe they’ll finally add “heals vs undead = dmg” to give those clerics some DPS to kill Lupi thru healing!
Ok guys I found out part of what they are doing to address the dominance of the Zerker meta.
PvE: Are there any plans to make condition builds more viable in PvE?
”Yes you should see some creatures targeted around weakness to condition in some of the early builds next year.” ~Isaiah Cartwright
What does that even mean
Agreed… but you guys don’t even know what you’re complaining about yet (other than a change of some sort). Wait and see if/how they goof it up and then give suggestions on how to fix that goof and hope they listen. Complaining before you have any clue what they’ll do just makes people look like scared/crying players.
It’s funny that you say this, because that is exactly the same thing people told us when we were complaining about the Fractured patch before it launched.
Look how that went.
What does that even mean
Permanent weakness on players.

Instability wars 2 then
That means we are going to have more creatures like the Gorillas in Arah, that shout spam weakness, effectively nerfing 25% of our DPS.

That smells like low health high toughness mobs.

Weakness is more than 25% and it also decreases your endurance regen.
Weakness means I lose 142%+ damage from crits, that’s a little bit more than 25%.
WTB Null Field / Healing Spring / Purging Flames
Either it has that meaning and we can call this game Gorilla Wars 2, OR, it might be mobs that hit extremely hard with autoattacks and therefore require weakness to effectively tune their DPS down to normal levels.
The latter option would mean Anet failed again since everyone would just run even more often with Skale Venom consumable.
I still don’t get how can this affect dungeons, are they going to put those new mobs/upgrade existing ones to do that? Seems a LOT of work for anet…. Nah this stinks like Living Story.
(edited by Quickfoot Katana.8642)
They’ll make it into an instability that you can’t cleanse. Calling it.
What does that even mean
Hopefully it means Weakness becomes like Vuln but for condition damage.
And hopefully it means that is the ONLY thing they change. Go go skale venom + grenade engineer new meta.
EVEN MORE LEGIT PATCH NOTES
…
- To leave a party formed using the LFG tool one must wait approximately 1 hour. This is to ensure that dungeons are completed within an appropriate time as has always been intended. This also ensures that anyone who thinks they can just ‘up and leave’ a party because they think it’s full of ‘bads’ will stop and have a serious think about why they are playing this game.
…
-Enjoy
<3
Actually this is already the case. Try joining and leaving LFGs rapidly and see.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Oh, see I wouldn’t know since I don’t go rapidly joining parties over and over. >_>
Well I joined a party once and got blocked.
I’m sorry but…. glancing blows can’t crit.
Let’s assume 100% Critical Chance and +100 Critical Damage. Normally all would crit and you do 2.5X damage. With weakness 50% of time you do normal damage and 50 % of the time half of non-critical damage which results in 0.5*2.5X + 0.5*0.5X = 1.5X.
And that is 1X/2.5X=0.4 so 40% less damage.
I will point out that you do not even know what the changes are, or when they will start. Throughout GW1 and now into GW2, there has been a population of gamers who scream the game is ruined, impossible or dumbed down with each major change. Guess what? People adapt. Within 1 week of the Ursan nerf in GW1, there was a team build on PvX wiki that could do the Domain of Anguish faster than Ursan ever could.
Calm down. Claiming the developers don’t know their own game does not help. Posting up parody patch changes the developers would never put into place is will result in you being disregarded.

If we look at the patches of the past we can see only bad things are to come.
I am a psychic btw. I see the future. Do not sully my name.
AND for the record… I believe my patch notes are 100% accurate tyvm.
(edited by J Eberle.9312)
John I hope you are making a joke.
You are implying the developers read the dungeon forum, which they don’t. So we can talk whatever we want and it will be disregarded the same way. I’m sorry I don’t want to spend my effort and time writing a constructive post no Developer will read anyways, so we have returned to the sarcastic ways.
In GW1 I don’t remember being so screwed over patch after patch, unlike what I feel it’s happening in GW2. Maybe I’m not the only one.
The only good update that Anet has added to Guild Wars 2 was the account wallet. That was something that should have been included in the game from the start. All other updates have been failures of varying degrees.
Serious and constructive posts didn’t persuade Anet to listen to us either when it comes to the Fractured patch. They launched the patch, nerfed the rewards, made Fractals take longer (when my finals are done I’m gonna do a mathematical write up of why weighting the Fractals actually made them take longer overall, I just can’t be bothered at the moment), fixed 1 bug (invulnerable Harpies), introduced a whole bunch more and never replied to any of our concerns. Not once. Well, that’s not true, they did reply. They asked us to shut up and move our discussion to another forum 2 or 3 times.
Add to that that every single patch they did to ‘fix’ something in dungeons or high-end PvE ended up screwing us over in some way or another, and you wonder why people get distraught and bitter?

That teambuild was already out long before Ursan got nerfed. People just didn’t run it because Ursan was brain-dead easy mode. Glaiveway was the most popular thing that happened to DoA, but it was stupidly slow. I did <30-35min HM full runs with my guilds and friends all the time, but a lot of people still ran Glaiveway or Frostway, because they’re dumb and bad. Comparing Ursan nerf to what they’ve been doing to this game is way off and a terrible comparison. When they nerfed Ursan, they actually did something right. Add to that a bunch of really good balance patches throughout the game, combined with a couple of bad ones and there isn’t that much to complain about overall.
The problem is that the things they’ve completely ruined in this game vastly outshines the things they’ve done right. Ruining Fractals is the biggest one coming to my mind at the moment. And we called that beforehand as well, but people told us to shut up and we shouldn’t complain. Surely Anet would deliver all their promises and we had no reason to jump to our guns beforehand.
Ironically, their ruined the entire format, reset our progress without compensation and didn’t deliver on a single one of their promises. And you wonder why we’re skeptical about this patch? If someone punches me in the face every time they promise to buy me a beer and never buy me a beer, is it so strange for me to be skeptical every time this person promises to buy me a beer?
Calm down. Claiming the developers don’t know their own game does not help. Posting up parody patch changes the developers would never put into place is will result in you being disregarded.
Actually, they’ve proven pretty clearly by now that they don’t know their own game. Their terrible streams, continues screwups when it comes to PvE kind of proves that.
In GW1 I don’t remember being so screwed over patch after patch, unlike what I feel it’s happening in GW2. Maybe I’m not the only one.
No, you’re not. GW1 had good patches and bad patches, but at least there were good patches. Oh, and new and challenging content every once in a while. And decent PvE content that actually rewarded you for your effort and team play rather than the dumbed down trash we have now.
To give you an idea how much I stopped caring about this game and this development studio, I just don’t bother fighting my infractions anymore. My last one I could have easily gotten rid of by sending a single email, but I didn’t, because I just know what I’m doing is a waste of breath.
They don’t care about us, and they never will.
(edited by Moderator)
I too, miss GW1.
Bright you always say what I am thinking T_T
(edited by Moderator)
If they will seriously make zerker unviable then they can expect a major kittenstorm. Also I will be kittened if they make full zerker unviable cause not so long ago I just spent a lot of gold for my new armor skins(bouht racial T2 and 3 armors) and the transmute stones for em. So I guess Ill be stuck with either unviable gear or an appearance i dont like.
PvE: Are there any plans to make condition builds more viable in PvE?
”Yes you should see some creatures targeted around weakness to condition in some of the early builds next year.” ~Isaiah Cartwright
Kinda’ thinking they didn’t mean the actual condition Weakness, but they probably just meant to say ‘more susceptible to conditions than to direct damage’. I gotta’ admit, I’d have a hard time writing that sentence without accidentally referencing gameplay mechanics too. When I think of the concept of something being strong against something else, the words ‘Vulnerability’ and ‘Weakness’ are the first things that spring to my mind.
We are trying to take steps to address some of the dominance of Berserker/DPS players. More info next week, I think.
Oh thank merciful heaven.
It is so nice to hear that. Not that I’m not skeptical, because I kind of agree with some other posters here in that this seems like a really core problem with the game. So I kind of wonder if build diversity is just DOA in GW2 as a tragic fundamental flaw. But in the very least I do appreciate that the DPS prevalence is;
1) considered a problem
2) important enough to be acted on at this stage in development
(edited by Vox Hollow.2736)
In a game that should appeal to the most players, something that balances stats for various content makes sense.
Every possible scenario that I can think about, is either too expensive for ANet to actually implement, or sucks balls.

So bosses with tons of toughness who spam weakness and have low vitality.
Anyway, does he mean open world or dungeons? If open world, who cares: it’s all faceroll content anyway. If dungeons: are they really going to touch dungeon content again?
Increasing the grind for armor like they did with ascended does simply not mix well with changing the meta. Players will be left doubting crafting armors/items for fear that they will be nerfed and all of their time/effort vested into a particular set will be for not.
Oil and water…someone is not thinking.
Anyway, does he mean open world or dungeons?
It’s not necessarily either/or.
It’s likely all places where something like Bandit Rifleman spawns is ultimately referencing the same bit of code, regardless if that’s divinity’s reach or caudecus’s manor.
I want some forum regulars to join me in GW1 :/ sooo…
Interested.

I tried to go back but the lack of jump button I dunno… T_T
Well I don’t know, I already met few warriors in dungeons, proudly claiming to be a “tanking build”… good luck at tanking without aggro building skills, guys…
The best defense is always a good offense, and a good offense means a raw straight damage. If you kill it fast, I will not have enough time to strike back.
And concerning trinity, I like this game because it lacks the bloody boring trinity. The MMO world is choking in trinity games everywhere. If ANet goes trinity with GW2, they will lose their advantage.
OTOH they would make the ex-WoW people less confused and more happy… just another WoW clone without the monthly fees. :/
I tried to go back but the lack of jump button I dunno… T_T
This was my issue too. I went back a few months ago when I got kicked from my old guild. It just… Was difficult to get the hang of the movement.
Leaked Patch notes:
Enemies ranked Legendary and higher can no longer receive critical hits. We decided to limit this at legendaries so berserker gear would not be completely useless against Champion/Elite enemies.

:O Good stuff, I really want to replay the whole thingy. You know, a game that has the shadow of a decent story and missions.
Swifty?
I might have a friend gift me his old gw1 account. Anyone want to give me a lot of free money ’n stuff? :^3
I would love to play GW1 if I can have a nice community to play with there!
If you do start a gw1 thingy, lemme know, and if you have a guild, also lemme know… I’d love to play again, but only if there are people to play with. Lol
Well not to burst your bubble, but with the current state of the game even overpowered healing isn’t viable. The splitting up to accomplish tasks is a good idea but one that more than likely won’t be implemented, especially while Anet is focused on living story.
Idea! A dungeon path with NPCs that either A) Do metric tons of damage, or B ) Provide some sort of phenomenal protection super-buff. NPCs generally aren’t even worth considering in a big boss fight, but if they were WORTH keeping alive, having a support/healing oriented character might even be PREFERABLE.
And yeah, I understand that the chances of this changing anything are slim, but all it takes is one snowball to get the ball rolling.
